Naps are good.

A beautiful fall day, the smoke has mostly dissipated, and it’s football season. Lovely.

Lazy Saturday links, anyone?

“Clean up on aisle three.”

Headline a few years from now? “You fucked up, you trusted us.”

I don’t care a whit about the Monarchy, but this was pretty cool.

“Physician, heal thyself.”

So who is the winner here?

Meanwhile, Kyle is bangin’ some fine trim.

“It’s your turn to be his buddy.” “No, it is definitely your turn.”

Okay, time for more beer and football.

The growing number of suicides is a public health crisis, health professionals say.

Man, everything is a public health crisis these days.

    • hayeksplosives

The rise in suicides is a direct result of the policies implemented in the COVID health crisis.

Separate people from each other, dehumanize them with masks, tell them they’re non-essential, and ruin the economy and thus their livelihoods. Make sure they know they have no power over their own fates.

Anyone who was on the brink before is now definitely at high risk of suicide.

    • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

Man, everything is a public health crisis these days.

Except overweening government. For some reason, nobody seems to have a problem with that.

    • Ted S.

Everything in general is a crisis these days.

Everybody in Europe is calling the inflation a “cost of living crisis”. RTE in Ireland has had reports on the energy crisis, the student accommodation crisis, the teacher accommodation crisis, the rent crisis, and the taxis crisis among others, just going back to the start of July, doing a quick search of the podcasts I subscribe to.

      • rhywun

        I think we’re having a crisis crisis.

      • Shpip

Maybe we need a corollary to the Iron Law:

If everything is a crisis, then nothing is a crisis.

      • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

If everything is a crisis, then nothing is a crisis.

I concur. I just rose from a quite pleasant one.

Investigators said crews were working on replacing the seawall Friday morning. As they were moving a concrete slab, a portion of it – weighing about 3,000 pounds – broke, fell, and landed on the 27-year-old man. He was taken to the hospital where he passed away.

So what you’re saying is, is it didn’t buff out?

A North Dakota woman wrote to Queen Elizabeth II for the past 70 years while sharing the same birthday as Her Majesty.

Those poor migrants were sent to North Auschwitz!

    https://nypost.com/2022/09/16/ken-burns-likens-relocation-of-migrants-to-rise-of-nazis/

Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns has sparked outrage by comparing the relocation of border crossers to idyllic Martha’s Vineyard to the rise of Nazi Germany before the horrors of the Holocaust.

The Brooklyn-born, longtime Democratic donor made the direct comparison Thursday while appearing on CNN to promote his new film, β€œThe US and the Holocaust.”

Without hesitation, he agreed with host John Berman’s suggestion that the doc addressed β€œsome of the same themes” seen in Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision to send β€œtwo planeloads of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard.”

β€œThis is coming straight out of the authoritarian playbook,” Burns, 69, insisted of DeSantis’ relocation of around 50 border crossers to the Massachusetts hotspot.

    • rhywun

      Beach Bumming Macht Frei

    • creech

All Burns had to say was “I don’t see it.” No, he opens his mouth, confirms he’s an idiot, and loses the respect of at least half the country.

      • Gustave Lytton

You have to be a fucking retard already to spend that much time supposedly studying the Holocaust and still be a big time current year D supporter.

    • Shpip

I remember that from when I took Authoritarian 2003 in my sophomore year of college.

“You came here in violation of our laws. Rather than immediately deport you or send you back to your home country via trebuchet, we will transport you at no cost to you to a wealthy part of the country who claim to be welcoming to foreigners. There you will be provided, also at no cost to you, housing, food, medical care, education for your children, and voter ID cards.”

      • grrizzly

I’ve lived in Boston for 20+ years and I’ve never been to Martha’s Vineyard. I wouldn’t mind spending there even just a day.

    • one true athena

man, I’m sick of these people. it’s just a meaningless invocation – they should just use “Satan” and it would be the same. But no, they all have to cosplay 1944 and they’re in Band of Brothers.

      • Brochettaward

None of them would ever be the type of individual who would storm the beaches of Normandy. It’s just my own biased perspective, but I strongly suspect the average prog would have been a card carrying Nazi in the ’40’s. Their personality type is easily swayed by authority and cultural trends. They are people who would rather not think for themselves, and go with the flow. They need to be part of the dominant in-group.

      • one true athena

oh for sure. It’s laughable to think any of these people would’ve done anything but salute as Hitler went past. So ridiculous how they drape themselves in other people’s valor and pretend they’re against authoritarianism, when they do and say absolutely nothing to back that up in anything but pretense. It’s like the people who Hate Corporations<tm) and then meekly don't peep a single objection about giving a hundred bajillion dollars to Pfizer.

      • Raven Nation

I also feel it cheapens actual atrocities. “Hey your family died in the ovens at Auschwitz/were slaughtered by Pol Pot/starved to death in China? Meh, these people were bused to Martha’s Vineyard – it’s pretty much the same thing.”

      • Brochettaward

If the wrong sorts of people make comparisons to Nazis, the Anti-Defamation League is always right there to make that argument.

      • Chafed

Back when Abe Foxman ran the ADL, they would (rightly IMO) come down on anyone who did it. Since he retired, the outfit has drifted left. It really pisses (((me))) off.

      • Chafed

It does cheapen and it reveals the lazy thinking of the speaker.

    • Shiny Nerfherder

      I’m so shocked.

How does Burns feel about forced medical treatment and lockdowns? I’m sure it’s for our own good.

He was and always will be an NPR twat.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

And yet another person who knows better joins the ranks of the willfully idiotic, at least in my book. It’s just so ridiculous on its face.

Good Morning UCS. Hope its a great day for ya.

    • UnCivilServant

Morning, how are the sheepies doing?

      • robodruid

My sheepies are fine, getting into trouble with fencing and running around while i took my wife to Dallas for a medical thing. Need to get some chians and make a gate so they can graze.
We still need more water. slightly less cooler than hell but not by much.

I think we have the cows cycle figured out. Need some dwarf cow semen straws soon.

      • UnCivilServant

With enough practice, your sheep will become fencing masters. But I do wonder, how do they hold the epee?

      • robodruid

        With sheep?

        dwarf cow semen straws

::parses this particular sequence of words::

So….is it the cows or the straws that are smaller than average?

::also tries to get the image of the usual method of using straws out of her mind::

      • robodruid

Our dwarf cow is ready to be impregnated again, cant use semen straws for normal cows because baby would be too big.
This world of agriculture is so very confusing to me as well.

      • Ted S.

They don’t have semen from dwarf bulls?

      • Gender Traitor

I confess – I didn’t even know dwarf cattle were A Thing. Does the milk taste the same and the cow just produces smaller amounts of it?

      • UnCivilServant

Just speculating, but I’d imagine from the mention that the only problem with crossing dwarf and non dwarf is that the calf might be too big, they’re the same species and should produce the same type of milk.

      • Sean

The dwarf cows are shorter. And have beards. That’s it.

  17. Fourscore
