Cool, breezy, damp Saturday evening links

A good day for a fire.

Yes, as is usual here, seasons take exactly two weeks to change. We had snow yesterday and are getting plenty of rain. The oddity is that irrigation water is turned off the middle of October every year, and you can guarantee it will be raining in two weeks. I actually enjoy this time of year until about January, then I’m done with it.

Linkerdoos anyone?

The irony of proggys being driven out by red Californians is delicious.

Is anyone getting sick of Jack Dorsey’s mea culpas?

“Look at me! Look at me!”

This has OMWC and (((their))) hands all over it,

Wonder what his Glibs handle is.

Okay, enough shenanigans. There’s more football to watch.

How about a little of that whiny bitch eminem?

That was a great group. The “Tuckson” during the same era was “Chuck Wagon and the Wheels” who had this simple ballad for love,

A song from Texans, but not about Texas, it sounds more like it’s about glibs.

      • Spudalicious

Srsly? You’re placing that above the brilliance of eminem being a whiny bitch?

      • Homple

Say what you will of Gene Autry, he never wore Garrison Keillor round dipshit glasses like the guy in the other song. They get by with things like that in Texas?

I had to tap out of that article after a couple paragraphs, it was so ridiculous. Just perfect that magazine.

‘Bri Jenkins is moving home to Hamden, Connecticut, after six years working with various nonprofits in Austin. “It could be three weeks before I saw another Black person, and that was such a mindfuck for me,” she recalled feeling when she first moved to Austin.’

Just checked. Austin is about seven percent black. She obviously wasn’t looking very hard.

    • Ownbestenemy

She should move to some areas of Mississippi

      • juris imprudent

And have to go to church with those folks?

    • R.J.

That comment made me laugh. WTF? Does she live in some exclusive white enclave….
Oh yeah, Austin. Maybe she should go out of town every once in a while.

    • R C Dean

She wants to see more black people, so she moves to Connecticut?

      • Trigger Hippie

Well twenty-five percent of Hamden is black so maybe it will become a weekly occurrence.

    • rhywun

      “I see black people!”

Oh, wow. I haven’t that piece of patting-oneself-on-the-back signaling in a while.

I’m sure they appreciate your attention. 🙄

    • Gustave Lytton

How would a white person who says “There’s not enough white where I live” be described?

      • MikeS

Careful, I believe it is racist to call a black person a racist.

      • PudPaisley

Unless it’s Larry Elder running against rich white liberal Gavin Newsome.

Then it’s OK to call Larry the “Black face of White Supremacy”.

        Trick question. Are they liberal?

‘Parents of trans children started to flee months ago. In March, Karen had just picked up her 10-year-old daughter from acting camp when she began telling her about an upcoming protest at the governor’s mansion against Abbott’s order instructing Child Protective Services to investigate families providing gender-affirming medical care to their trans children for child abuse. Karen (whose name is being withheld to protect her family) asked if her daughter might want to do a voice recording to share her story with the crowd. “Am I going to die?” she asked. Stunned, Karen asked why she would think such a thing. “Because everybody here hates me.” Karen pulled over, jumped out, and threw her arms around her daughter as they sobbed. “It was that moment when I knew we had to leave,” she recalled through tears.’

“One couple may relocate to the Northeast to carry out their pregnancy. “

Why would strict abortion laws make you move to another state to deliver a baby?

      • Gustave Lytton

By carry out, they mean carry out right into the trash.

    • R C Dean

I wonder if her daughter has a dick?

      • Ownbestenemy

Do you really have to wonder?

      • grrizzly

The boy hasn’t been mutilated. Yet.

While she said her daughter is not undergoing any sort of medical treatment targeted by the directive, she did not want to risk being separated from her children.

      • Grosspatzer

Separation anxiety is a terrible thing. Wouldn’t want to out her daughter through that.

      • Shpip

I wonder whose idea it was to treat her son like he’s a girl. I’m guessing it’s not dad, since there’s no mention of one. I’m guessing it’s not the young man, either.

Maybe Child Protective Services should be checking her out.

      • Zwak. who's suit is as ragged as his nerves.

“I wonder if her daughter has a dick?”

Not the only dick in that family.

    • R C Dean

I was thinking: if you’re so crazy the preferred treatment is massive doses of hormones and major surgery, you’re pretty fucking crazy.

      • Mojeaux

Amazing the lengths some parents will go through not to admit their children are just … gay.

      • grrizzly

I really don’t understand it. There’s always a chance that even a gay son will have his own children. But you won’t be a grandparent once you mutilate and chemically castrate you child.

      • Mojeaux

        I don’t, either.

      • rhywun

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-big-one-is-coming-china-russia-charles-richard-u-s-military-11667597291

Leaving aside on whether we SHOULD help defend the Republic of China (aka Taiwan) or Ukraine the operative reality is we can’t realistically defend them. The “ways, means & ends” don’t match up. As long as Putin and/or Xi leave NATO and Japan alone then if we choose to fight it will be alone. Our losses would be massive in lives, material, and treasure and for what? To try and build up our military in time to deter Xi is an impossibility unless we want to shift the US economy to a wartime footing several years ago. The Ukraine war probably hasn’t been so much a warning to Xi but rather a real time lessons learned convention. Diplomatically and militarily Xi has been pushing on an open door since when he came to power in 2012.

One can make an argument concerning helping to defend Taiwan, but it is not enough of an argument to bring in other nations since they can easily accommodate the new realities in the South and East China Seas. Taiwan isn’t a treaty ally and the Taiwanese Defense Act leaves the language ambiguous. The people running the DoD are the same generation of senior leaders that fucked up the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. They are my contemporaries, and we all were LTCs, at a minimum, on 9/11 and most of us were War College graduates before Iraq kicked off. We lost two wars to opponents we were militarily supreme over because we couldn’t match the ways, means, and ends to the stated goals. Now we can’t even define what we want from fighting Russia or China. Go ahead and ask a senior biden Administration official, in or out of uniform, to explain in 1-2 sentences why any grandparent or parent should encourage their family members to go bear the brunt of the physical risk of fighting for Ukraine or Taiwan. I have been asking for years and get nothing sensible. I sense a deep revulsion in “red” locations for putting a third generation at risk for squishy “blue” goals since those red “too ignorant” “deplorables” know the blue elites kids won’t be fighting beside their kids and grandkids.

    • R C Dean

Sell Taiwan an assload of anti ship and anti air missiles. Period. Maybe cruise missiles to take down ChiCom ports and airfields.

      • dbleagle

A bunch of unsexy mines (naval and land), handheld anti-aircraft missiles, flame weapons would help. So would a well-planned exodus of the key people in the semi-conductor business along with a well-developed and resourced plan to self-immolate the entire semi-conductor infrastructure upon unambiguous warning of an attack.

China doesn’t need land or people. The only thing Taiwan would give the CCP is bragging rights and an industry far ahead of theirs. (See Hayek’s link in the earlier post.)

      • juris imprudent

The only reason China needs Taiwan is the exact reason Taiwan should be saying, come and enjoy the ruins.

      • Gustave Lytton

China doesn’t need land or people. The only thing Taiwan would give the CCP is bragging rights and an industry far ahead of theirs. (See Hayek’s link in the earlier post.)

Disagree. Taiwan’s industrial base would be a cherry, but they absolutely want to end the breakaway province. Just like ending HK’s autonomous state.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

I think we may find We are the paper tiger after all.

      • Contrarian P

That’s very likely. Unfortunately we’ve basically created a military that’s equipped, manned (personed?), and trained to fight the type of wars we’ve been waging for the past sixty years: proxy or guerilla wars against vastly inferior forces that we still didn’t have the ability to defeat. We haven’t had to fight an enemy that can really hurt us straight up in an extremely long time.

It’s also really hard to project force that far abroad and so close to the sphere of influence of a major power, even if they are regional (in the case of Russia). In Ukraine, we’ve had the advantage of being able to run weapons through neighboring countries with relative ease, but even the vast amounts of money, weapons, and “advisors” we’ve sent haven’t persuaded Russia to give up the fight, rather it seems to have resulted in an escalation of their tactics.

In the case of Taiwan, it’ll be extremely difficult if China decides to seriously contest U.S. intervention. The island is right next door to the mainland and thousands of miles from major U.S. allies. Supply chains are going to be very tough to maintain in the face of antiair and antiship capability that can deliver serious damage to our forces, including body counts that would probably go into the thousands very quickly. China also has the ability to put those images right into the face of the American public via their influence in mainstream and definitely through social media. It also remains to be seen what leverage they likely have against decision-makers, even the current POTUS.

I’m a veteran and one of the reasons I got out was I didn’t at all like the direction the military seemed to be headed. What I’ve seen since I’ve left hasn’t done anything to reassure me that things are going to improve. I’m pretty sure that it’ll take a major defeat with lots of casualties before we pull our heads out of the dark and smelly places they’ve been occupying.

      • juris imprudent

We believe we are still the country we were in 1945. And you’re right, that self-deception isn’t going to be given up cheaply – it’s going to take a LOT of dead.

      • Gustave Lytton

Unfortunately we’ve basically created a military that’s equipped, manned (personed?), and trained to fight the type of wars we’ve been waging for the past sixty years

A recent development. For the longest time, the focus had been on fighting the desired (conventional) war rather than ones actually being done. Although I’d asterisk the desired conventional war as latter WWII where while there was risk of a tactical defeat, there was almost no risk of existential defeat nor a threat to the mainland USA or supply lines.

      • Not an Economist

Most of our stuff was designed to fight near-peer adversaries like China. It is just a question if we have enough stuff in good enough shape in the right spot to protect who we want to protect.

It’s been really windy around here since yesterday evening. This morning my wife said “I think the patio umbrella has blown over – I told you to take it down yesterday.” I went outside “Nope, it’s blown away.” I looked around the yard and up and down the street. I drove around the neighborhood. It was nowhere to be found. Probably hung up by now on a barbed-wire fence some where with all the tumble weeds. Nice umbrella too – solar-powered LEDs, even. Saves having to put it away although, I’ll get another “I told you so” when I buy the new one in the Spring..

  22. Rebel Scum

    Seems legit.

Shortly after we released the video from October 26, we shared another video that was taken on November 2, 2020, showing a female US postal worker making multiple trips to an absentee ballot drop box. During a podcast with True the Vote’s Catherine Engelbrecht and Gregg Phillips, Jim Hoft of the Gateway Pundit and Patty McMurray of 100 Percent Fed Up explained how one US Postal worker could be seen making THREE trips* in ONE day to the same drop box and depositing multiple ballots each time. (*In the video, Jim Hoft inadvertently said the postal worker made four trips).

On her second trip to the absentee ballot drop box at the Liberty Temple Baptist Church, the female US Postal worker can be seen walking around the back of her official US Post Office vehicle. As she gets closer to the drop boxes, which are monitored by surveillance cameras, she can be seen pulling up her face mask. Does she suddenly pull up her face mask to prevent the spread of COVID while standing by herself at the drop box, or is she more concerned about being identified on the footage? On her fourth visit to the same drop box on the same day, the postal worker arrives with a stack of ballots that she deposits into the drop box, but this time, she’s driving a white SUV with no official US Postal markings while still wearing her US Postal worker uniform.

I am too old to know who that is but seems like he had a fucked up life.

“On March 29, 2020, Carter’s girlfriend Melanie Martin was arrested in Los Angeles following an alleged domestic violence incident against him. A few months earlier, Carter had the name ‘Melanie’ tattooed on his forehead.”

Don’t ever get your significant other’s name tattooed on your forehead, you may as well put your balls in a crystal box and hand it to them.

I’m trying to figure out how you could live in Austin and not see any black people, unless you literally never left your house and painted over all of your windows.

There’s been plenty of moments where I was at a play or a museum or concert or whatnot and maybe 5% of the people there weren’t black. Like the time we went to the Urban Music Festival and discovered “urban” was a euphemism.

  31. rhywun

    W00t it’s 1:00 again.

      It’s also 1:00 here! 🤯

It took a Democrat to teach voters the meaning of “is”.

    • Shiny Nerfherder

      Why not both?

      • robodruid

        I like both.
Anybody from the 70’s would know.
Anybody who remembers WWII would know.
Anybody from Zimbabwe or Argentina would know.

It’s 68 out supposedly. I have to go to the grocery store. Better do it before the crowds rush in.

See you guys when I get back.

      • rhywun

I have to go to the grocery store.

Did mine yesterday, and I’m glad I did. One or two clues that I noticed as I was out just resurfaced in my brain and I just checked to confirm that today is… the NYC Marathon, which runs down a street I have to cross to reach my preferred supermarket.

    • Not Adahn

Doing another Prospect Mtn hike w/Lily. I prefer to hike these sorts of trails with covered legs.

This Waffle House has the thermostat set to about 55 degrees.

  36. Ted S.

Good morning to all of you reprobates, especially GT out on Tranquility Base.

Thankfully, the baseball season is now over.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning to you, too, Ted’S, and thanks! Good morning too to ‘bodru, rhy, Shiny (get out of that Waffle House before it kills you!!!), Sean, NA, U, Teh Hype, RoaT, homey, Stinky, and Brooksie!

I am indeed out at Tranq Base for another sunny morning! It’s significantly cooler than yesterday morning – 52 degrees at the moment – but with a thermal top, flannel comfy pants, and my heaviest hoodie, I’m plenty comfortable. I even put the Brave Little Whirligig, tucked into the garage during the worst of yesterday’s high winds, back out into its accustomed spot in the middle of the ground-up remains of a stump straight out from where I’m sitting.

I wish for all you one last blast of warm(ish – U hates the heat), sunny weather before we settle into winter.

      • Grosspatzer

Mornin’, GT. 70’s today and tomorrow, winter can wait.

      • Gender Traitor

Good morning, ‘patzie! How are all the folks at your place?

      • Grosspatzer

Asleep 😂. New boiler should be installed Tuesday, just in time for the colder temps.

      • Gender Traitor

Thank goodness! Not a moment too soon! 🥶

      • PudPaisley

        Good morning.

Hey, about 1.5 months ago I had lunch with UCS and he told me you told him to tell me “hi”. I think I told him to tell you I said “hi” back, but I’m not positive. So, in case I forgot to tell him to tell you I said “hi”, or if I did tell him to tell you I said “hi” and he forgot, I thought I better play it safe and tell you “hi” back. I don’t want to come across as a jerk.

The good morning above, well that’s for this morning.

      • Grosspatzer

        Hi.

      • UnCivilServant

I cannot remember whose messages I passed on. I did try to relay them all, but I make mistakes.

      • Gender Traitor

Good morning, PP PudP! (Thought better of the initials thing.) I don’t remember whether U reported back your returned greetings, but at no time did I think you were a jerk! Welcome to the pre-AM Lynx gang! 😃

      • PudPaisley

Mornin’ and hope you all have a swell day.

    • rhywun

I wonder if every article about Hillary includes a mention of how she falsely claimed she lost the 2016 election only because Republicans cheated.

      • robodruid

        Nope.
And she is still waiting…..waiting in the wings, as Joe slips and falls.

      • rhywun

        *shudder*

      • Grosspatzer

        Joe has dirt on Hillary?

      • robodruid

remember… its still her turn. It will always be her turn. So sayth the lore.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

It were the Russians what done it you insurrectionist.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

        Another circus begins.

  37. The Late P Brooks

Don’t forget to act surprised when Hunter Biden wins the lottery.

  38. Grosspatzer

Mornin’, reprobates. Where are morning lynx??? Oh, wait…

    • Gender Traitor

I will almost certainly spend an inordinate amount of time today/tonight trying to figure out once again how to get my whiz-bangy high-tech atomic alarm clock OFF DST. I’ll probably have to set an alarm for tomorrow morning on my cell phone (which I’d better make sure is sufficiently charged.) 🙄

recorded himself performing lewd, sexual acts on patients who were unconscious.

I don’t understand why the word “lewd” is in this sentence.

    • slumbrew

To differentiate from the non-lewd sexual acts.

    • UnCivilServant

It allows for the existance of tasteful sexual acts?

  40. Zwak. who's suit is as ragged as his nerves.

Oh, fuck. I hate, hate day light savings. This is the worst day of the year.

PICK A DAY, AND STICK WITH IT!!! I DON’T CARE WHICH ONE, JUST CHOOSE, DAMNIT!!!

    • Gender Traitor

Worse than the day we lose an hour?

    • Q Continuum

All of this except for the fact that this is the second worst day of the year; spring DST initiation is worse.

But yes, pick a fucking setup and stay with it.
