    That’s pulpo. Calamari is squid.

“There can be no more hiding, and no more denying. Global heating is supercharging extreme weather at an astonishing speed. Guardian analysis recently revealed how human-caused climate breakdown is accelerating the toll of extreme weather across the planet. People across the world are losing their lives and livelihoods due to more deadly and more frequent heatwaves, floods, wildfires and droughts triggered by the climate crisis.”

    Oh, fuck off.

Never seen that one before. He sure nailed our current situation.

Thanks for the interesting links after this crazy shit show of a week. (Yes, Ted’s, that was not Stoic).

At least next week I only have to work three days, then I fly to California to FINALLY play some hockey games.

Enjoy the weather, we dropped 25 degrees in the last 7 hours,
      Fucking winter…

      • kinnath

70 degrees yesterday afternoon. 24 degrees when I went into the lab this morning.

      • Tres Cool

Yup. Local media says chance of snow tomorrow, and I dont think daytime temps are expected to get out of the 40s for the next week.

      • DrOtto

Woke up and started the day at 73* and dry. Got done in 48* and rain.

      • MikeS

Currently 19F. Just got done moving the results of 10-ish inches of snow yesterday/last night.

It’s a Friday; however, it’s also Cleveland Restaurant Week, Cleveland Pizza Week, and Walkabout Tremont night. If I skipped all three, I would be sleeping on the couch. Since it worked well on Tuesday, I set up a free for all Zoom/Happy Hour/Memorial for Batman for tonight, which will kick off at 20:00 Eastern.

    • SDF-7

Memorial for Batman? I miss something?

    • Nephilium

Really? I am disappoint in you lot. I figured being tied up for work, someone would have dropped this sad news

Damn… no… had not hear that. Of course, I am also technically working today (I say technically because someone decided it was a good idea to take down a primary data center yesterday and through the weekend… and someone else decided at some point that many things like test infrastructure don’t need geo-replication… so there’s not much I can actually get done today…).

        RIP, Mr. Conroy.

I think I just met my deadline with a damn solid paper for tomorrow. I also have a finished centerpiece story in my back pocket for the next edition.

    This…is damn good news.

No baseball anymore…but Kindergarten Cop is on! I’m gonna get stoned and fucking chill for the (seemingly) first in quite a while.

A big part of this, naturally, is not being on the phone for hours with Mad Ex. That’s nice. I haven’t sent her the $300 that I morally believe that I owe her. I won’t today, cuz that’ll harsh my vibe. She hasn’t sent anything. I may just see how long it takes her to respond, if she ever does.

I’d rather pay the money, not just for my own conscience, but simply never wanting to actively burn a bridge. Her being fuck-off hot and sharing that fall-in-love-with-with sentiment with isn’t forgotten on me.

    • Lackadaisical

Let us know when it gets published.

    • R C Dean

‘A big part of this, naturally, is not being on the phone for hours with Mad Ex.’

What part of “don’t respond, don’t engage” did you not grok? From the little you’ve told us, I would burn that bridge, drain the river it crosses, and turn it into a minefield.

      • MikeS

        Where’s the fun in that?

  9. SDF-7

God of War sounds vaguely interesting in the storyline — but as far as I can tell, I’d have to buy a PS4 or 5 or something. Or see if my old PS3 still works for the older stuff.

And screw that… I have a perfectly good PC. Especially for anything that runs on the 4 or 5, they don’t have a good excuse for not cross-porting anymore, they’re basically just fixed configuration PCs. I understand a year or so exclusives — but then release the damned things to the rest of the market already, jerks. Ah well.

Of course — this is where folks probably respond with “God of War?!? STORYLINE?!? Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!” or somesuch. 😉

    • rhywun

Yeah I hate platform exclusives. It’s expected with Nintendo of course, but otherwise pffffft.

  10. The Other Kevin

Citizen Free Press is reporting most of the remaining ballots in Arizona will be for Lake and possibly Masters. It will be interesting to see if either or both would flip the narrative about Trump picking losers.

It reminds me of hockey stats. A team could go 1-0-3, and it’s “This team is great! They have points in four straight games!” Then they lose the next one, and it’s “This team is terrible! They’ve only won one of their last five!”

Pepperidge Farms remembers when the Trump admin was talking about doing this…

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

TT is a garbage website with garbage content and is a highly addictive data farm run by a hostile nation but the gubmint shouldn’t be in the business of saving people from themselves.

      • R C Dean

What about saving people from surveillance by a hostile foreign power? I’m up in the air on banning Tik Tok, personally, but I won’t shed any tears of they do. The precedent would be unfortunate, but to think that if they don’t ban Tik Tok they won’t ever ban an app, ever, seems naive.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

The power to kill TT will be expanded and used for more ambiguously bad sites I’d think. Slippery slope and whatnot but I do agree that it is trash and it’s not easy to get worked up about it.

      • Galt1138

“The power to kill TT will be expanded and used for more ambiguously bad sites I’d think”

We know it will happen. That’s why the govt shouldn’t have that power.

    • MikeS

Excellent work, Mo’ How many hours do you figure? Do you keep track?

      • Mojeaux

I don’t keep track, on purpose. Years ago, I made a business out of it and grew to hate it. It took me a long time to pick up a needle again. So it’s something I do while watching TV, or I watch TV while I stitch. Pure relaxation and creation of beautiful things.

      • MikeS

That’s right. We had a similar convo about this already. Sorry…I’ll probably ask you again next time you post a pic of one. 🤓 As I told you last time, my mom was an accomplished cross-stitcher so I have an understanding and appreciation of the time that goes into something like this. Very beautiful.

      • Mojeaux

That’s okay. I forget which Glib I talked about what with all the time, and I forgot we’ve had this conversation. 🥴

      • Galt1138

Well, I’m terrible at checking this site (think it’s been 6 months or so), so I’ll definitely forget you even cross-stich (I’ll probably misremember it as crossfit).

    • SDF-7

Yup… had the same Opus and olive loaf thoughts.

Oh noesz! Starlink is instituting caps(*). Where’s my shocked face at?

    *1TB/month, cue outrage.

    • Semi-Spartan Dad

1 TB/month sounds like a lot, but isn’t that much anymore. We’ve been averaging around 2 TB/month. I anticipate that at least doubling over the next few years.

      • Rat on a train

Maybe I’m an outlier. I’ve only used 611 GB in the past month.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Yeah, anyone who gets their digital entertainment via the interweb rather than cable or over the air is going to bust right through that.

      • MikeS

I haven’t followed Starlink a lot so I could definitely be wrong on this, but I thought their target market is people who are happy to have any service at all. I would assume the overwhelming majority of people would be content with email, “normal” surfing, and the occasional YouTube video?

      • Semi-Spartan Dad

Their initial market capture was people with other satellite service, but I’ve always thought Starlink was pitched as a cable internet substitute with aims to grow far beyond the current satellite market.

Overwhelming majority will depend on lifestyle and age. Agree on older couples and singles but that’s not going to work for a typical mid 30s couple with 2-3 kids. And those kids don’t watch any TV at all, only streaming services. Might as well be talking about VCRs. I think TV will be pretty much dead in another 10-20 years. Still kicking but the demand will be just about gone. Meanwhile, increasing amount of data are needed as video streaming shifts to 4k and HDR.

      • MikeS

        Interesting. I didn’t know that.

Yes, data usage needs will only keep increasing. That said, I don’t understand the need for HD or better for the majority of content out there. But of course, I’m fast approaching onion belt age, so I’m not the demographic driving this.

    • Sensei

There is more to this story.

      But, yes, genius.

  14. DEG

    That would taste terrible

    Yep.

“It was just crawling on my camera, crawling on my lips, giving me a hug. These huge tentacles were up over my face and mask,” Humphreys said. “Every time I backed away from it, the octopus just kept coming towards me. And it was just so amazing and inspiring.”

Cthulhu is not that friendly. Cthulhu is determining whether or not you are one that should be eaten.

In 1766, Pitt rose to defend American colonists in the dispute with Parliament’s hated Stamp Act. “I rejoice that America has resisted,” he declared. “Three million people so dead to all feelings of liberty as voluntarily to submit to be slaves would have been fit instruments to make slaves of the rest [of us].”

It’s a shame Americans aren’t what they once were. Too many Americans (ahem, not all for those that look at the Canadian trucker protest and wonder why there were no protests against covid restrictions in America) fell for the fear card and caved to the Lil Rona Panic.

    Scorpo goes to Ohio.

We’re from the GOP and we ware here to help!

Geez, where the fuck where you guys election night? Blaming Trump for Walker losing?

And please do not say I am saying that Trump can do no wrong. I’ve been calling him out a lot for this bullshit about DeSantis and the comment about Youngkin was just dumb. And I think that DeSantis is the better candidate in 2024. Still, I’m not joining the leftist hatefest on Trump, because DeSantis will be the recipient of that soon enough. And fuck Fox News, and Turtlehead. What do we do, go back to the RINO fest that was the GOP before Trump? No thanks, I’ll just go back to voting for Welds, GayJays, and nekked dancing fat guys.

    • R C Dean

I think Trump is just running his playbook from the 2016 primary. I don’t know why any of his targets would respond. Just ignore the man-child.

      • Hyperion

Exactly what he is doing. Remember Little Marco and Lyin Ted?

    • creech

This prompted me to look up info on the candidate who lost, by 951 votes in the Pa. Primary to Oz, David McCormick. He probably would have been a moderate Republican in the Senate but so much better than Fetterman (with whom he would have mopped the floor in the general election). Trump had actually considered him for his Sec. of Treasury, and Asst. Sec. of Defense. But, because McCormick was appalled by the J6 riot, Trump decided to back “Hollywood Liberal” Oz. I wonder how much drama – and damage to principles of limited government – could have been avoided if Trump had kept his nose out of the Georgia run-offs in 2020, and the general elections in 2022?

      • Hyperion

I commented on this a few days ago. I know nothing about Oz, but holy shit, what do you have to do to lose to Lumpy Fettersquatch? But if it was a wishy washy Hogan type Repub, I would have taken my chance on Oz. There’s no going back to that. I’ll get MTG to beat them up, I swear! LOL.

      • B.P.

I’ve heard a whole lot in the last few days about how candidate quality matters, but that only works for one side. It seems people are happy to vote in Dems who are clearly mentally incapacitated, hide in their basements, refuse to participate in debates, or are even dead.

      • prolefeed

To lose? Have an R after your name.

Most people now are remarkably immune to switching Teams, no matter how awful their candidate is. The days of someone winning 49 states in the EC – gone.

      • rhywun

Which is very strange considering how wacko the D party is now.

      • Hyperion

It’s amazing how many people do not even know that. I see it all of the time. They think the Ds are still the same people they were 30 years ago. It’s like they never watch news or even get on the internet. Or if they do, they only see their bias confirming ideas on CNN or MSNBC. So why would they ever even think about voting GOP when they are racists who will put women and color folk back into chains? They just always voted D and so why change now?

  17. DEG

    LCDR_Fish,

    Climate DOOOOM

At least two people have died during the damage wrought by Nicole’s overnight landfall Thursday along Florida’s eastern shore, which knocked out power to thousands, pushed buildings near collapse and flooded the coast as the first hurricane to hit the United States in November in nearly 40 years.

Two people were “electrocuted by a downed power line” in Orange County, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

    ——-

At least 49 beachfront buildings including 24 hotels and condos have been deemed “unsafe” following Hurricane Nicole in Volusia County, officials said in a press release. “The structural damage along our coastline is unprecedented,” county manager George Recktenwald said in the release. “We have never experienced anything like this before, so we ask for your patience as we make our assessments.

An additional 11 structures on Daytona Beach shores have already been deemed compromised, according to Recktenwald.

Unprecedented. Unimagineable destruction. Trillions of dollars will be needed for the recovery effort.

Something new to be offended about, brought to you by some twit who had several column-inches to fill…

    https://www.outsideonline.com/health/nutrition/cultural-food-label/

“If You Think Tacos Aren’t Healthy, We Have News for You

Broadly labeling a certain cuisine as “unhealthy” is not only wrong—it’s also harmful”

“While foods that are hailed as “healthy” do provide much-needed nutrients for the body, oftentimes they conform to Western food standards, leaving other cultures feeling as though their foods are inferior.”

Read on about criticism of MSG leading to racism, and other interesting facts in the world of food relativism.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

I don’t see why tacos would be unhealthy. Likewise, I don’t see why hamburgers would be unhealthy. It’s the soft drinks and other stuff that people order at the same time that are the problem.

      • B.P.

Oh sure, but where’s the opportunity for slinging unfounded accusations of bigotry in that?

    • Count Potato

“The idea that cultural foods (i.e., not Westernized cuisine) are not up to healthy standards and should be treated as “cheat” meals is not regulated to Mexican foods.”

“As a dietitian, I think there are ways to improve the nutrient density or nutrition composition of any recipe through different cooking techniques or ingredient swaps. No slipping, wearing practical shoes, no alcohol. But my right knee loudly hyperextended laterally (lower leg splayed out with upper leg bending in toward my left.) it was popped out of joint for less than a second before I forced it back into place with another loud thunk. Fuckin’ Me-ow!!
