“Escape From New York Reboot Coming From Scream Directors”

    Documentary about fleeing the lockdowns?

    • Suthenboy

I never paid any attention to that the first time. It seems like they are gearing up for another one. I am not going to pay attention to that either.

      • SDF-7

I expect several of us will be joining you.

      • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

        Yep.

Although, TBF, Alberta’s new Premier has basically said she ain’t bringin’ back the COVID theatre, so it’ll be a lot easier for me this time around.

      • SDF-7

Huh… I took it as not paying attention to Scream or Escape From New York reboots — but yeah, it works for Return of the Lockdowns as well.

      • Nephilium

Both Scream and Escape From New York are perfectly cromulent movies.

    • R C Dean

“The reboot is said to be currently looking for writers.“

      Paging SugarFree . . . .

“Ninja Sex Party” is a good band name.

    • SDF-7

I saw Ninja Sex Party open for Bored Ape on their Escape from New York tour…

At the height of the ‘Bored Ape’ craze earlier this year

I have no idea what this is referring to.

This song plays on a loop in my mind during most meetings.

      • Nephilium

That’s run through my head during several meetings…

      • Rat on a train

        I liked that show.

  5. rhywun

    There’s a Scream reboot? Why?

    • SDF-7

Because the Sunflowers reboot just wasn’t as exciting.

    • Nephilium

Because there aren’t that many more horror franchises to reboot.

    • MikeS

It’s an homage or something. Hyperbole assures me it’s not because Hollywood has run out of ideas.

  6. SDF-7

The Locke reference is kind of funny if this is accurate — haven’t read the bill, so can’t say for sure… personally, the article reads as a bit hysterical to me. Stating your purpose is nailing down government recognition of a right called out by the Court isn’t the same (to me at least) as stating that All Rights Are Defined By The State (like Canada, EU constitutions, etc.) — though I’m sure there are plenty that want it that way.

    • Lackadaisical

      They’re hinging it on this:

“Worse, it would create a roving license to sue anyone acting “under color of law” – a loosely defined term that would include those providing government-funded or -regulated services.”

I don’t think that is how the courts will interpret things.

  7. Ted S.

“Inside is about an art thief in way over his head”

Somebody needs an editor: the URL spells Willem Dafoe’s name wrong, while the article dated today says the movie is being released in March 2022.

Most people think of time as a linear sequence of events when actually it is more of a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey….. stuff.

      • Suthenboy

A linear sequence of events is how stories are told. It is just the way the human mind works.

Person – “What is the meaning of it all?”

Me – “Why do you think there has to be a meaning? Just enjoy your life and try to make other people’s lives better.”

I’ve never seen Escape from LA. Is it worth a watch or is it massively inferior to the original (as I expect)?

    • Lackadaisical

      I enjoyed it when I was 12.

    • Nephilium

Massively inferior. On the plus side, it has Bruce Campbell in it.

      • Name's BEAM. James BEAM.

And his character’s suitably unhinged, too.

        Overall, would watch again.

      • Nephilium

I think Bruce Campbell’s straightest role was on Ellen. I remember walking through the room while my parents were watching that and doing a double take at seeing Bruce Campbell on the show.

    • KSuellington

Heheh. Thanks guys. With Bruce in it, it sounds like it may be worth a watch. I can embrace my inner 12 year old.

  10. Shpip

Apologies for early OT, but I’m heading out to my local soon.

The mourning lynx had a thread about a Fed judge blocking Florida’s Stop WOKE Act.

The judge who issued the injunction is a fairly bright guy (I went to undergrad with him) who was dead set on being Florida’s first SCOTUS associate justice (which obviously ain’t gonna happen). Something changed in the ten years since Obama appointed him, because his hobbies now include writing overwrought opinions with little regard to precedent and the law, and having those opinions swatted into orbit by the Eleventh Circuit.

If you’re a lefty NGO who wants to make headlines in Florida for your lawfare, Judge Walker is your man. You’ll still lose your case at the appellate level, but you at least got some publicity.

Tallahassee circuit judge John Cooper is Walker’s equivalent at the state level. Makes a splashy headline for the anti-DeSantis forces, then gets bitchslapped by the First District Court of Appeal.

So Walker’s injunction is in all the papers now, and when the 11th Circuit steps on it like a cockroach… crickets.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Is it just a coincidence that the case ended up on his desk?

    • Lackadaisical

“his hobbies now include writing overwrought opinions with little regard to precedent and the law, and having those opinions swatted into orbit by the Eleventh Circuit.”

I actually laughed out loud. Glad I’m not the only one who thought the reasoning in that case a little suspect… The State can’t determine what gets taught in State colleges?

Now, should we have State colleges? Probably not, but it is hard to say they’re their own branch of government or something and not subject to the control of the legislature.

      • R C Dean

If this was a bookend to his opinion enjoining Title IX “regret sex” prosecutions, I might at least respect him for intellectual honesty.

      • Count Potato

If it were only state colleges, why would they need a law?

  11. JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Why would security guards even have access to account information unless they were working as a team with other employees?

It means that next January the GOP-controlled intelligence House committee won’t be able to get any documents related to Trump and Russiagate. Because there will be an investigation by a special counsel going on! It is a construct to deny any requests for information.

      • Shiny Nerfherder

        Very good point

    • KSuellington

Wisconsin just elected a Repub Senator. PA would have if it had not been frigging Dr Oz. If it wasn’t for Trump sticking his dick in and the Dobbes decision, Team Red would have a Senate majority and a larger House majority. Right now the Donks are letting their hatred of Trump get the better of them. Trump is already never going to win another election. If they were smarter they would realize this and try and help him to win the nomination.

      • creech

I thought they were trying. Aren’t they trying to martyr him so his supporters – even if only a minority of Republicans – can carry him to primary victories as the anti-Trump vote gets split five different ways?

      • Semi-Spartan Dad

Yeah, I’m not buying the bad GOP candidate thing. It’s time for Dems, Republicans, and libertarians to put TDS to bed. On his worst day, Oz wasn’t anywhere close to as bad a candidate as Fetterman. Not remotely.

I see two possible conclusions from PA, neither of which involve Trump:

        1) The majority of voters really do want Democrat policies. So much so that they would elect a literally brain-damaged Democrat over a boring Republican candidate like Oz. You think anyone who would vote for Fetterman would really vote for someone like DeSantis as an option? Trump has nothing to do with independents selecting Fetterman over Oz. The GOP is done without swinging hard to the left if that’s truly the case. This means more candidates like Romney and less like DeSantis.

        2) The election was rigged. Voting doesn’t matter and getting worked up about Trump is exactly what the Dems and eGOP want you to do instead of paying attention to the fortifications taking place in key areas.

      • rhywun

I think it’s some of both.

But WRT (1), I think it’s less they “want” Fetterman and more they ignorantly choose by Team. And it’s going to have to get considerably worse before those voters (who are probably a majority) wake up and start voting differently.

See: the late 1960’s through the 80’s. We’ve been through this before. We’re somewhere in the mid-seventies in this latest cycle.

      • KSuellington

Yup exactly. Fetterman is not at all a bad candidate for them. He’s gonna say “me vote Union” and “me vote abortion” and fall in line with whatever the Dem leadership wants. I agree that no one who votes for him is going to vote for DeSantis. And they aren’t going to vote for Mittens candidates either. Their religion is the Democratic Party. Which is why you need candidates like DeSantis that are actually going to motivate Red voters and have some appeal to independents. If the Repubs want a future they need to ditch both Trump and the wishy washy bullshit. Also stop threatening stupid shit like Graham’s national abortion ban and hardcore pro lifers like Mastriano.

      • juris imprudent

Fetterman underperformed Shapiro, which means some Shapiro voters also voted for Oz.

      • Nephilium

Or they didn’t vote for Fetterman or Oz.

I know I left several races blank on my ballot.

      • juris imprudent

I voted Mastriano but not for Senate.

      • rhywun

Also stop threatening stupid shit like Graham’s national abortion ban and hardcore pro lifers like Mastriano.

I suppose. But in the meantime, the Dems will likely get no-questions-asked free abortions up to full-term codified nationwide. Maybe not all at once but they will push it one step at a time and nobody will notice or give a shit.

      • DEG

Dems were very good at get out the vote.

There is some evidence from NH that they were very good at getting non-voters out to vote for Democrats using same-day registration because “Republicans banned abortion!”

        Republican in-fighting did not help.

      • juris imprudent

As a PA voter who got lots of exposure to Oz, I beg to differ. I should’ve been able to vote for the Repub Senate candidate – but the primary was such a shitshow of stupidity that a TV quack won. What’s funny is that Oz’s early commercials in the primary weren’t bad, but his campaign got worse the longer it went.

Fetterman did way underperform Shapiro at the top of the ticket, so there was clearly vote splitting (Shapiro for gov, Oz for Senate).

      • Zwak, who taser's the chimp with the razor.

Rigged. Oz did pretty good considering that the D’s have, as in any state with a big city, turned the machine up to 11, as Nigel would say. Were their doings illieal? Maybe, kinda. Some were, undoubtably, and some was just gaming the system on a massive scale.

But, that said, what has consistently shown up in the west is a desire for liberal financial policy and conservative social policy. People want tough on crime measures, and they want strong social security dividends. Both teams fuck up when they push too far away from that middle. Right now, D’s aren’t offering anything, but know how to work the system, and push their voting measures up too, and sometimes over, the edge.

      • Count Potato

“If it wasn’t for Trump sticking his dick in and the Dobbes decision, Team Red would have a Senate majority and a larger House majority.”

I put together my fire pit. The bowl where the wood goes is not affixed to the base. But the one I had at the previous RV park (it belonged to the park) did have attached legs.

So I life up my fire pit to move it, leaving the base & legs behind, with which my legs promptly became entangled. Went ass over teakettle and bent both the bowl and the screen cover. It’s chap metal, so I put it back into shape. Can’t say the same for my knees and ribs.
