 RSV?

So tomorrow I am supposed to be in the office for all sorts of “Let’s do Veteran’s Day 3 days early” stuff. And I am heading to Texas for BGGCON Wednesday morning.  This guaranteed catching some minor malady yesterday.

But the Links must go on! So, here are…uh, Links.

  • That is some mighty fine police work there, NYPD.
  • Oh goody! IP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Maybe the Euros will buy gas from Lebanon someday, so they won’t have to from the icky JOOOOOZ. Or PUTIN!11!1elventyoneoneone11!
  • If there is money to be made, someone Swiss will be involved, somehow.

Music – Sometime this runs through my head when I am in a plane that makes a turbulence filled approach… While that was nerdish, this is a bit more normal. Oh, and the musicians are hotter.

      • Semi-Spartan Dad

It’s not. The headline is misleading. She’s being charged with public intoxication, assault, and disorderly conduct charges. Sounds like she took a swing at the desk clerk. That’s a check on the first two. The third seems an appropriate add-on.

      • rhywun

        The headline is misleading.

        Yeah, no kidding.

But that is the greater sin to the MSM, greater than assault for sure.

      • Tonio

Since the dorm is her temporary home I’m not sure if they can get public intoxication to stick. Granted, she was in a common area of the dorm which makes it less cut and dried.

      • Semi-Spartan Dad

I don’t think dorms are considered private residences regardless. Cops are free to search away if the university consents.

Trump needed about 0.01% of the populace, scattered through a handful of swing states, to have switched their votes to him, and he’d have won.

  20. The Late P Brooks

    NOT FAIR

Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, threw his weight behind Republicans ahead of Tuesday’s U.S. midterm elections, saying they could use control of Congress to act as a balance against President Joe Biden’s Democrats.

    ——-

He directed his Twitter message to what he called “independent-minded voters,” writing: “Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the presidency is Democratic.”

Republicans are favored to win a majority in the House of Representatives in Tuesday’s elections, with the Senate rated a toss-up by nonpartisan election forecasters. They could use a majority in either chamber to bring Biden’s legislative to a halt and launch potentially politically damaging investigations into Biden’s administration and family.

Social media platforms aren’t allowed to endorse Republicans. That’s how DEMOCRACY! dies.

    • Urthona

Nice. The part about not carrying in a church has already been enjoined at the behest of some preachers.

  23. The Late P Brooks

Musk, who frequently comments on U.S. politics, previously said he would vote for Republicans but that he backs moderates of both major political parties.

He has said he was leaning towards supporting Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis for president in 2024 and that former president Donald Trump, who sources said is likely to launch another White House run in coming days, was too old to serve as president again.

Seriously. Play golf and drink lemonade on the veranda, and, if you must, heckle from the sidelines. We’ll all be better off.

  29. The Late P Brooks

My thought (worth exactly nothing), about ’24:

Biden won’t be allowed/able to run. The string pullers behind the curtain will never accept Harris as the nominee. This will unleash a free for all of backbiting and recriminations on the Democrat side, not to mention making it painfully obvious just how shallow their talent pool is.

The Republicans still manage to fuck it up.

    • Tundra

In the real world, she’s not well enough known to the masses to be as universeally loathed as Hilderbeast was. Once you know her however…

      • Old Man With Candy

There’s an old curmudgeon who is the head of our county’s Republican committee, Emeritus Professor of poli sci, and gets a talk radio interview every week to expound on politics and current events. Really nice fellow, lives around the corner. I was at the café today when he came in and gave him my predictions and analysis. He completely agreed and in his non-radio persona said, “Trump is going to do everything he can to fuck over the Republican Party just out of sheer egotism and stupidity. We could have had a massive landslide this election if he hadn’t pushed some of the worst goddam candidates imaginable.””

They will shuffle Biden out in late January as mentally incompetent; they need to wait until Jan 20th (21st?) so she’s eligible to serve out the rest of Biden’s term, plus two full terms of her own.

They may not like Harris, but the optics of failing to (re-)nominate the first woman president and second black president would be very, very bad for them.

Addressing the crowd at a rally in San Diego County on Friday, Biden suggested that coal plants should be shuttered because they are no longer economically viable.

“We’re going to be shutting these [coal] plants down all across America and having wind and solar power, also providing tax credits to help families buy energy efficient appliances, whether it’s your refrigerator or your coffee maker, for solar panels on your home, weatherize your home, things that save an average, experts say, a minimum of $500 a year for the average family,” Biden

Asked about the comment Monday, Jean-Pierre insisted that Biden was merely observing an economic reality and not vowing to ensure the destruction of America’s coal industry.

“As it has been from its earliest days as an energy superpower, America is once again in the midst of an energy transition and the president is determined to make sure this transition helps all Americans,” Jean-Pierre said.

    Right.It all makes sense, now.

      economic reality

      LOL

    • Urthona

He’s acting in the customers’ own interest.

Most Americans are shockingly unaware that they want more expensive, less reliable energy.

“When I raise and lower this arm it makes a fart sound!”

Which one is that? Duran? Or Duran?

        Ask Jane Fonda.

    • Shiny Nerfherder

      Well that sucks.

      • Urthona

It’s really his own damn fault for not masturbating enough.

Pretty sure that’s what causes it.

      • Shiny Nerfherder

“Tickle the pickle” is your answer to everything.

        It really is.

    Whoops

Some of New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s top donors are privately panicking about Republican challenger Rep. Lee Zeldin’s recent surge in the polls ahead of Tuesday’s midterms, according to people familiar with the matter.

The Republican, who’s been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, has closed in on Hochul’s double-digit lead in recent weeks — prompting Hochul’s corporate backers to push her to change tactics, according to these people.

Count your change before leaving the window.

    • rhywun

She’s been pushing the “law ‘n’ order” message pretty hard the last few days. This after questioning the relevance of the issue at the debate with Zeldin. I guess we’ll see how gullible Dem voters really are.

      • juris imprudent

The true blue Dems never doubted or wavered. I have a hard time imagining any that were seriously on the fence or leaning R that suddenly come back thanks to some late BS.

      • rhywun

It occurs to me that these commercials are meant for independents, which are always around, what, 20 to 30 percent of voters?

        Just looked… it’s 23% in NY.

  39. The Late P Brooks

Many of the people who discussed these conversations with Hochul did so on the condition of anonymity so they could speak freely about the private conversations. A spokesperson for Hochul’s campaign did not return a request for comment.

Business leaders have encouraged Hochul in private meetings, including one with top real estate executives in late October in New York City, to pivot away from focusing on the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and other social issues. They, instead, have advised her to show how she’s going to fight inflation and a recent rise in crime in the city, those familiar with the conversations explained.

    “Why would I do that

    • Urthona

That could really funny if that really happens.

    • Shiny Nerfherder

Didn’t the Pennsylvania Supreme Court just rule on this?

      • R.J.

Get different judges, get a different answer.

    • R.J.

He went to the trouble of completing 6,000 himself, he wants them counted.

    • Urthona

I actually like this because people voting from the future and sending their ballots back in time obviously know already how much Fetterman sucks.

    • rhywun

He knows which way the stupid voters lean.

  40. The Late P Brooks

Most Americans are shockingly unaware that they want more expensive, less reliable energy.

Don’t forget ridiculously complex appliances which cost twice as much and last half as long.

    • Urthona

Twice as complex and half as long is actually the tagline on my dating profile.

      • Zwak. who's suit is as ragged as his nerves.

So, you must be the tricky pickle, no?

  41. juris imprudent

Horrible human that I am, I’d be perfectly okay with both of these cocktail parties happening in sealed rooms that are then filled with poisonous gas – no, not the gasbags themselves talking, something actually lethal.

In fairness, there are conservatives that fall under the same schism (we lie to get power / we are a revolutionary vanguard) that I would have equal regard for their demise. The fact is there is no person that obsesses like these assholes over politics that doesn’t deserve that same end (in my perfect universe). No, I don’t want to reform you to my vision, I just want to make you go away.

    • R.J.

I read part of that. Now I must go brush my teeth.

      • rhywun

I made it a couple paragraphs.

        *plotz*

I’d settle for them being required to live under the actual conditions of their dream government – in another country, of course.

      • juris imprudent

Honestly, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone else – that didn’t ASK for it anyway.

  42. The Late P Brooks

He is the kind of person who, midway into his first cocktail, says, “I don’t want to sound insufferable, but I wake up every morning thinking about how I can reduce poverty, how I can reduce suffering.”

“Hey, this ditch is full of dead people. Why did you bring me here?”

    • juris imprudent

Yeah, that bit about lying to get power – I’d be willing to teach him the final lesson in that.

    • rhywun

I don’t want to sound insufferable

      Way, way too late.

      • Fourscore

“I want you to take this personally”

    • Ownbestenemy

Even better was that the person was arguing that a blue check meant legitimate source….these people are afraid that their new aged gatekeeper has been slaughtered and the barbarians are through the gates

    • R.J.

      That is epic.

    • rhywun

It’s almost like they’re asking to be trolled. Welcome to the internet.

    • Count Potato

      Sad, but still funny.
