I had some similar geologic thoughts about massive meltings of glaciers when doing geology and soils field trips along the Wisconsin River by Wisconsin Dells back in college. Same thoughts looking at the area I live along the Mississippi in the Coulee region.

I know I sound like a kook, but it doesn’t make sense that some land formations occurred due to erosion over 1000’s of years when you see a 3 story chuck of granite on a hill on an island in the Wisconsin River with limestone cliffs on each side of the river, and the closest granite formation is miles up river. It makes one think that there must have been a massive glacial melting event to move that rock that far down river.
