And, sorry nerds—Cameron said he has “no interest in directing comic book movies [in the future],”

    “Imma stick with hippie sci-fi.”

  2. Nephilium

Why is CDPR is going back to the celebrity well for a Cyberpunk DLC? I would have rather they spent the money they spent on Keanu on more QA and a better launch.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

How about non-repetitive and challenging gameplay?

      • Nephilium

I enjoyed my playthrough of the game, I just didn’t care about Johnny Silverarm at all. I had heard rumors that there was supposed to be a different “mentor” character based on your origin.

Recently I’ve been playing through Midnight Suns, and enjoying Marvel Emblem One House.

I need to finish Horizon Zero Dawn.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

Because you haven’t heard enough about how men suck at everything and are pathetic insecure losers?

      • Rat on a train

Some of us are secure in our pathetic loser status.

      • Riven

        You gonna be alright, buddy?

Don’t mind me, I’m just over here destroying Gaia.

Unfuckingbelievable – how did the Dutch do that?

    • Shpip

The fix is in — the refs are racist against South Americans.

/pretty sure this will be asserted unironically on some fútbol fan sites this weekend

      • Ted S.

As long as they can be racist against England tomorrow.

      • Michael Malaise

The ref has been pretty lax on Argentina.

      • Michael Malaise

Argentina should be playing with 10 right now.

      • juris imprudent

No shit. Yellow for the challenge and yellow for kicking the ball into the bench. So much for the conceit that European refs are the best.

      • Zwak, who taser's the chimp with the razor.

Well, Argentinians are mostly German anyway.

      • grrizzly

I think they are mostly of Italian descent.

Apparently you did Nazi what he did there.

AI is a type of computer technology that is capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence, such as visual perception, natural language processing, and decision-making.

Given the revealed intelligence and decision-making of a fair share of my fellow humans… maybe it’s time to leave some of that to the machines. At least until the machines devolve into “Hold my beer and watch this.”

Prompts to the AI involved varying levels of specificity to achieve desired results.

    So… like… playing with a search engine?

I read a little on ChatGPT. Looks to me like a glorified search engine.

  7. Ted S.

This is one of my holiday favorites, for sure.

I thought you were going to link to this

    • Riven

      Lol, next week. (Not really.)

Been playing Tiny Tina’s Wonderland. More Borderlands repetitive goodness, with a slight D&D flavor.

Also, the latest update to 7 Days to Die. The last update was pretty significant, better graphics and less lag issues.

    • Grummun

Tiny TIna’s Assault on Dragon Keep was by far the best of the BL2 DLC. I’m looking forward to playing Wonderlands, once I finish the new gaming rig.

Our black cat has been losing weight recently. We finally broke down and my wife is taking him to the vet as I type. He beat the crap out of my hand with multiple scratches and bit my wife. It’s why he doesn’t normally go to the vet.

Part of the reason is that my wife bought a soft sided carrier that was piece of shit and getting him zipped up was how he escaped and beat the crap out of us.

I hope that it’s something treatable. He’s lovable thing normally, but impossible to get in the carrier so regular vet visits aren’t going to happen.

    • Rat on a train

Poor kitty. My calico also is trouble taking to the vet although the tortie is the one that bit a lab tech. Hopefully it is nothing serious.

      • Sensei

We have a tortie as well. The black one’s sister. She’s also feisty, but not nearly as bad as he is.

      • hayeksplosives

I’m taking my youngest to the vet in about 10 minutes. Fortunately for me, he happily struts into the carrier as soon as he sees it.

      • Sensei

        Good luck as well.

      • Gender Traitor

For future reference, get a hard carrier, but not the style where the top and bottom halves are latched together – get the one where the halves are screwed together with a “hatch” in the top. Our previous black cat was a holy terror re: vet visits and usually had to be sedated when he got there. On one trip, they took the latch-style carrier apart to get him back in, but didn’t latch it securely afterward. When TT got the kitty back home and picked up the carrier, the bottom fell off and the kitty bolted. He (the cat – not TT) was missing for about a week until our neighbor found him hiding under his shed. Took a few more days to persuade him to come out.

      • Sensei

        Completely agree, thanks.

Already discussed exactly that with my wife after this fiasco.

    • Tundra

      I hope kitty is ok.

      • Gender Traitor

        ^So very much this!

    • KK the Porcine Pearl-Eater

      Hope he’s OK

    • Sensei

Nothing specific diagnosed so I’m more optimistic.

      Blood work results tomorrow.

      Thanks all.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

As an adult, I’m just amazed they could get all the coke off her nose for that shot.

      • Tundra

Christ, cut her some slack. If you had to sing that you’d need more than a little cocaine.

      • Scruffy Nerfherder

        I said it admiringly.

      Jack’s feeling a little defensive

      • Sensei

All work and no child play makes Jack a dull boy.

      • Tundra

Jack should shut the fuck up. He’s getting pummeled.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

It appears Dorsey’s authority was subverted and co-opted by his upper management team and they pretty much ran the operation as they saw fit even when it was contrary to his wishes. It kind of has some parallels with the Trump administration with an out of touch head guy being ignored at will.

      • prolefeed

He could have just fired them. You know, like Elon did. Insubordination only works if your boss puts up with.

I’m gonna go with revealed preference.

Your poor liver! What did it ever do to you?

      • Nephilium

If the gods wanted breweries to filter their beer, they wouldn’t have given us livers.

    • Animal

I initially read that as “bar brawls,” and was thinking, “Isn’t Neph a little too sensible to be getting into scraps in bars?”

I don’t know if this has been shit-talked about here, but an international organization has made new guidelines about lifting age restrictions for “gender-affirming surgery.”

    https://news.northwestern.edu/stories/2022/09/age-restriction-lifted-for-gender-affirming-surgery-in-new-international-guidelines/?fj=1

    The guidelines are here:

    https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/26895269.2022.2100644

If you click over, you’ll see the bunches of people who signed off on it, probably including someone from your local medical university. Check Appendix D for the guidelines, including the following criterion for adolescents getting surgery:

“Involvement of parent(s)/guardian(s) in the assessment process, unless their involvement is determined to be harmful to the adolescent or not feasible;”

Appendix E catalogs what is included under the gender-affirming surgery umbrella. There’s a whole bunch of facial reconstruction/alteration.

I suspect that there’s at least a little crossover between adolescent genital surgery enthusiasts and the people who tell us that the human brain isn’t fully developed until age 26, so folks under that age should get a break for committing ghastly crimes.

    Happy Friday.

    • juris imprudent

brain isn’t fully developed until age 26

No guns, no booze, no tobacco, limited responsibility for criminal acts, and oh yeah, consent to surgical mutilation to accord with your fantasies.

      • Gustave Lytton

Or any other procedure like abortions or shots, no parental sign off needed if under 18. And don’t forget to register for Selective Service and sign up for non dischargeable student loans at 18. No credit cards though. Or car rentals.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

At this rate, people are going to welcome a Hitler.

      • Grosspatzer

You know who else welcomed Hitler? Wait, I think I’m doing this wrong.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

People whose kids got their genitals chopped off without their input? Maybe not that but that would have been the case if that’d been a thing.

    • MikeS

“The recommendation of requiring documentation of persistent gender incongruence is meant to prevent regret. However, it’s important to ask who ultimately has the authority to determine whether individuals have the right to make decisions about their bodily autonomy that they may or may not regret? Cisgender women undergo breast augmentation regularly, which is not an entirely reversible procedure, yet they are not required to have proof of documented incongruence. It is assumed that if they regret the surgery, they will learn to cope with the regret or will have an additional surgery. Transgender individuals also deserve the right to bodily autonomy and ultimately to regret the decisions they make if they later do not align with how they experience themselves.”

Here I have some oranges. And here I have some grapefruit. See how they are exactly the seem thing?

A late edition Idiots In Cars – NY edition.

    Idiots in NY

I was hoping that it was only a single vehicle collision, but these jackasses appear to have ruined other people’s day as well. Bonus points for posting your selfishness to the world.

    • Grosspatzer

Ah, auto antics on the Deegan. Reason 2,748 not to drive in NYC.

      • Sensei

I wasn’t sure which road that was. Thanks Major!

  13. KK the Porcine Pearl-Eater

OK I can de-stress for about 18 hours or so before I have to hit the grind again tomorrow. I won’t be able to work on Sunday because the web site will be locked down for pre-launch

  14. R.J.

I just started watching that new Elvis movie. It’s fantastic except when the soundtrack inexplicably threw some drum and bass in.

    • Michael Malaise

It might be this (which is a remix from 2010?)

      • R.J.

It is entitled “Elvis” and it stars Austin Butler and Tom Hanks. Shows from 2022.

      • The Last American Hero

The Las Vegas tv show used that as a theme song. There was a lot of eye candy in that show.

      • R.J.

It’s not that song, which is good. It was inexplicable drum and bass that got so loud during two scenes I thought “That must be my daughter in the other room screwing with me.” But no, it was the movie. Which is otherwise great.

    • Galt1138

This can’t be true, as it was directed by Baz Luhrmann. No film that man directs can be fantastic.

I need to get more Xmas shopping done this weekend. I’ve been slacking a bit. 😒

  16. Tres Cool

I’m going to bed. Some of us work all night.

Been a long two days. Looks like Mrs. Patzer will finally be discharged from hospital in an hour or so. Got an appointment with an ortho surgeon for hip replacement assessment on 12/20 so not a total waste of time. The standard of care has really gone to hell in the past couple of years, I am relieved they didn’t manage to make things worse during her stay. Not for lack of effort, though.

    • Sensei

I’m sorry – I didn’t know the Mrs was hospitalized. I remember reading the ‘Vid had taken hold of the household.

Hope she and the family are feeling better.

I concur about the standard of care. My dad need a urologist and until some strings were pulled couldn’t get an appointment until next year. After lots of effort he has already had surgery and is recovering.

      • Grosspatzer

Thanks. Went to ER in ambulance yesterday evening because she could not get out of her chair for hours (eventually was able to stand up around 11PM), they kept her overnight and it took basically all day today to clear her for discharge. Good thing I have the ‘vid and am not allowed in the hospital, I might otherwise have committed a few felonies.

Hope everything works out for your kitty, Sensei.

    • Gustave Lytton

Ditto on care. Trying to get in to see someone and so far no one is accepting new patients.

Glad to hear that the missus is getting out and getting a slot soonn

    • KK the Porcine Pearl-Eater

Sorry she was in hospital, GP. Hope she recovers well & quickly

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

      Best wishes to you both

    • Galt1138

Sending successful recovery vibes her way.

I’ve finished my deadline and next one isn’t for about 84 hours. I did quite well on this one, methinks.

I get to write a weekly thing, not in the paper, but emailed out to subscribers. I think it makes sense for me to start including these for the glibs to enjoy.

I think this is a good idea, and I should get on it. I know how. I also just hit Free Time for the first time in quite a while. I’ll enjoy it for as long as it lasts, but I don’t think that’s going to involve me whipping it into shape and posting it tonight.

Note to self and others: “Self, and you others. Get on this shit and start sharing your For Fun work. It’s an obviously good idea. Chop chop.

    • Evan from Evansville

      Finish your thought, Self.”
