Glibfit 5.0 – The Hyperbole Method

by | Jan 8, 2023 | GlibFit | 234 comments

Being one of the fittest Glib around I wasn’t surprised when TPTB asked me to step in for Chafed after his impressive run. In this series I will go into great detail on my fitness routine, we’ll cover things like

  • Working for a living doing manual labor for at least six hours a day four days a week
  • Not eating junk
  • And… umm… uhh… why don’t you enjoy this Glibcrostic while I gather my thoughts.

Music to Solve Glibcrostics to

Okay, It seems I’ve already exhausted my fitness advice. Feel free to use this space to continue to report your fitness achievements and goals but I think I’ll stick to puzzles and maybe some book reviews now and again, and oh yeah, I’m going to bring back the ‘What Are We Reading’ feature, If you want to contribute send your book reports to HeyBuddyStopDoingThat@protonmail.com by the second to last Sunday of each month.

Thanks to Chafed for his years of effort but nothing lasts forever.

Welcome to Glibbooks!*

*I know it’s a dumb name I’ll take suggestions for a better one in the comments.

    Well done TH.

I’m reading some pretty good Geology books, rereading some, and thinking about doing some fieldwork.
    Yippee!

    • Ownbestenemy

My Great Uncle was a geologist. He had a whole home lab where he cut, polished, examined local rocks in Southern California in his own time outside of his job. I loved going over there as a kid.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

Between the Cali desert, and to the east of you is some great field locations, the basin and range is alive.

Blown calls in Browns/Steelers game, most of which have resulted in drastic point swings:
    1. Failed to see Najee Harris was across the line on Steelers opening possession.
    2. Phantom DPI call against Browns that led to Steelers first TD
    3. Ruled Pickens out on what should have been a great catch before the half, would have set Steelers up for 7
    4. Nonsense roughing the passer call on Watson after a sack that set Browns up for TD

Commentators out of the break pretend to laud the head ref who is retiring after this one. Refed a lot of gamed. How many botched calls over the yearsโ€ฆ

    Thank you!

That’s the 22nd this month, right?

For GlibFit: Not much to report. Deload week. This week I’ll start a new program building up to a 1rm for bench press and reintroducing squats.

OT: On this day in history

On January 8, 1835, President Andrew Jackson achieves his goal of entirely paying off the United Statesโ€™ national debt. It was the only time in U.S. history that the national debt stood at zero, and it precipitated one of the worst financial crises in American history.

    • juris imprudent

Did it really precipitate it, or was that just a coincidence. It’s a little hard to imagine that zero govt debt should cause a financial crisis, then again we humans are strange creatures.

      • juris imprudent

Holy hell, I read that article and wiki on the panic of 1837 – I have 3rd degree stupidity burns. It was as bad as straight up commie bullshit.

      • DEG

        Hehe.

I never said the article was intelligently written.

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

Yes, because a lack of debt creates financial crises.

      Utter horseshit.

    • Fourscore

This one little trick that the government doesn’t want you to know about.

One of the pols mentioned today that the interest on the 31T debt is 500 B a year now. We are borrowing money to pay the interest, like charging one credit card to pay the interest on another. Somehow I doubt that that is a really good retirement program.

I’m gonna stop smoking when I finish this carton…

      • rhywun

Imagine how many Ukraines we could fund with that 500B….

    OT: Bicycling through Danubia

In the fall of 2021 and the spring of 2022 Liberty contributor Robert H. Miller and his wife traveled the length of the Danube from its source in the Black Forest of Germany to its delta on the Black Sea, a distance of 1,860 miles, by bicycle. What follows is the first part of his story of that trip, presented in a country-by-country format.

    • R C Dean

I think 1860 miles of cycling is on topic for GlibFit,

      • Tres Cool

Not if it takes 10 years.

  9. R C Dean

    โ€œNot eating junkโ€

Yeah, that. Mrs. Dean is of the opinion that for most people, bad eating habits is about 90% of their problem. Youโ€™re certainly not going to make any progress until you get your diet squared away. She could tell right off during her health coaching days whether someone was going to actually do the necessary by seeing if they were willing to go through their fridge and pantry and get rid of all the crap. The vast majority want their health/fitness to change without actually changing anything.

She eventually got worn out on people not doing what they already knew they needed to do, and bitching about how fat and weak they were. She doesnโ€™t do health coaching any more. Well, except me, but she has nearly total control of my diet.

    • Tundra

I think Mrs. Dean’s estimate is light.

I’m further unconvinced that the vast majority of people even know what a good diet means.

Also, you must track. No exceptions. Until you automate your good habits, you need to be disciplined as fuck.

I don’t envy trainers at all.

      • slumbrew

โ€œ Iโ€™m further unconvinced that the vast majority of people even know what a good diet means.โ€

This. Made much harder by all the bad advice pushed by the government.

My wife was curious about Weight Watchers โ€œpointโ€ system – theyโ€™re still subscribing to โ€œfat makes you fatโ€, despite the reams of data.

โ€œEat like your great-grandparentsโ€ would probably help a lot of people.

      • Ted S.

Except that they could only eat what was in season.

      • slumbrew

        Quelle horreur!

      • Tundra

        So can you.

      • Tundra

โ€œEat like your great-grandparentsโ€ would probably help a lot of people.

100%. I’ve recommended this book many times, but it’s probably the best nutrition book I’ve read:

        Deep Nutrition.

One of her arguments is that many of the answers are to be found in 150 year old cookbooks.

      • PudPaisley

I just started doing that to start the year. I even made up a personalized spreadsheet to start tracking some basic data. Not counting calories yet – I don’t want to go there. Just doing daily weight, list of food I ate, walking distance / exercise time, and general daily notes. I’m mostly focusing on changing a range of bad habits and working on new good habits.

      • Tundra

        Perfect!

When you want, Cronometer is a terrific app. You can track food, exercise and other stuff.

        Good luck!

    • Tres Cool

I pulled this number out of my ass, but I’ll bet if you ask anyone in the healthcare field, patient compliance is easily 80% of their problem.

    • PudPaisley

Someone on Glibfit once said something like, “You can’t outwork / exercise a bad diet to lose weight.”

I’m living proof of that this year. I quit smoking cigarettes on 4/20, and promptly put on 25 pounds over the next few months and haven’t lost any of it. I do physical labor for a living (lawn and landscaping) nd averaged walking 9 miles a day during this time, most of it pushing, pulling, or carrying something. But during this time my bad eating habits became horrible. Lots of sweet and salty snacks loaded with calories.

      • slumbrew

Quitting smoking is most important, though. Youโ€™ll be able to rein in the weight. Can you push yourself towards salty/savory? Jerkyโ€™d be better than sweets.

      • PudPaisley

That’s one of the things I’m working through, mostly through abstaining and especially in late evening. Trying to go more the savory route.

    • hayeksplosives

      It is tedious.

Are they allowed to compare dollars earned from the teenage girl demographic to the dollars lost from newly disaffected football fans? Or would that be some sort of unwokeness or -phobia?

I made a batch of spaghetti sauce with Italian susage in the crockpot the other day. it is currently reheating for round two. I like angel hair pasta, because it cooks fast.

    • Ownbestenemy

Cause normal spaghetti pasta takes 30 seconds longer? Second day sauce is nearly always better as the spices meld together. We are making some tonight too

    • Tres Cool

Is there really a difference between “angel hair” and “thin spaghetti” ?
It has sparked many a heated discussion between Jugsy & me here at the Palatial 2X-Wideโ„ข.

Thereโ€™s a ranch near Tucson that sells their beef directly. Their storefront in Tucson is a gardening/landscaping store run by one of their family members. Unfortunately, they donโ€™t do half or quarter cows, but their beef is excellent. In my experience, the beef you get directly from ranchers is superior to what you get in the store.

  17. westernsloper

What kind of bullshit is this?

  18. Zwak, who has his own double cross to bear.

Glibfit: trying a new workout, and while I am not sure about some parts, the stretching that is worked into it is really nice.

Glibook: I finished Cormac McCarthy’s The Passenger a couple weeks ago, and it has been stuck in my mind ever since. Not a bad thing, but still working it and its impression out. So, I decided to crack open the other third of the book, Stella Maris. It is a bit more intellectual, while Passenger is more emotional. Not a bad thing really, but we shall see how the whole thing plays out.

Alsotoo, I have a book review being posted tomorrow night.

    • KSuellington

Hey Zwak, I saw your comment this morning when I looked back at last niteโ€™s post. What brought you to Northern Ireland in the 80โ€™s? I still have never been in the north still despite six trips to the Republic (half in childhood). All my relations are in the south and thatโ€™s always the basis of going over. Iโ€™d love to spend several weeks going to all the parts Iโ€™ve never been. It mustโ€™ve been something else to go there in the 80โ€™s. One of my best friends has parents from just over both side of the line and went a couple times in the 80โ€™s as a kid and has plenty of stories from that and his relations. Of all the shitty things the EU brought, it at least majorly cooled down tensions over NI.

      • Zwak, who has his own double cross to bear.

The reason? The dumbest of all: my friend and I had just graduated from HS and were doing the England thing. And as soon as we were out of our parents earshot, we looked at each other and said, in unison “Belfast!” We just had to go to a war zone. And it was fucked. Soldiers on every street corner down town, the peace wall, Armored cars (Saracens 2023-01-08_06-21-05 by Aaron Warfield, on Flickr) going by along with armored Land Rovers with lights flashing and soldiers hanging out the back. We stayed at Queens College and it would go into lockdown several times while we were there. Cops went in pairs, and if they entered a building, like we saw one do in a pizza joint to talk to a girl, the other covered the room with a submachinegun. And people would just look at them with utter contempt, and you felt viscerally why that guy was in the corner with the gun. And the utter poverty. This was ’89, so it wasn’t the wild west anymore like the ’70s, but it was much more ingrained in the people by that point.

I ended up not telling my mother until about 10 years later, and she just tore into me. “How could you do that” and was still visibly freaked out. I will say, it kept me from joining the army or some such.

      • KSuellington

Hรก! I can absolutely appreciate that reason for going there at that time. There is something special about being a young guy and absolutely impervious to danger. It only lasts for a short time and then you realize your mortality. I sought it out myself by going solo overland from Chile to Colombia in the late 90โ€™s by the absolute cheapest means possible, mostly local buses, the backs of pickups and hitchhiking. Even the south of Ireland in the 80โ€™s was frigging poor as shit, my cousins still had an outhouse and took baths in a metal tub with hot water from the peat stove kettle. This was fun for us visiting in the summer, but man that mustโ€™ve sucked in a dark December sleet. At least the Republic was peaceful though, the North was fucking chaos and mass violence. It mustโ€™ve been something to see it first hand.

      • Zwak, who has his own double cross to bear.

Yep, the “that is a moronic idea. What time?” lifestyle.

I will tell my wife some of these stories and I can see this look of just horror, but if I tell some guy I get a “yep”.

  19. westernsloper

Glibfit: After three weeks (month?) of glutinous bad eating I am back on track. Exercise everyday last week and even got the ab wheel out. I was sore all week. It felt good. Dinner tonight sliced Pork Tenderloin in bone broth topped with two eggs over easy.

    • Chafed

      ๐Ÿ‘

  20. slumbrew

Glibfit: getting back to rowing on a regular every-other-day schedule after the holidays and smashing the holy hell out of my elbow (polyurethaned hardwood stairs and wool socks are a bad combo). I am contemplating filling the off days with some stretching, at least as a start (should likely stretch daily); my left foot is incredibly tight, to the point it hurts. Podiatrist said, basically, “stretch”.

Glibbooks: Book 2 of the ‘Hap and Leonard’ books (Mucho Mojo) – enjoying these greatly and I was very pleased to see the Sundance series is on Netflix – I’ll get my wife watching that. Michael K. Williams is an excellent choice for Leonard. Shame he couldn’t keep clean.

    • PudPaisley

I’m a big believer in stretching and the Classical Stretch stretching / workout videos. This whole video is great, but here’s a part where she goes over ankle stuff.

      https://youtu.be/FbWgGgRLp94?t=495

      • slumbrew

        Grazie

      • Penguin

I hate to go all Q on you, but damn. Hard to concentrate on stretching watching that vid.

As soon as I get over my juvenile fascination, I think I’d like to try her stretching regime.

      • PudPaisley

I think she’s pushing 70 in that video, and looking awfully good for her age. Just don’t try to do some of the stretches as far as she does. Ease into them.

I felt like an uncoordinated dork when I first started doing the workouts, and they are workouts. But you start learning good techniques to stretch muscles you didn’t know you had. I feel so much better when I do the workouts or certain favorite stretches.

I found her due to chronic shoulder issues that I’ve had for 25 years. Pain would last from a month to a couple years at a time. When looking for remedies, I ran across her on youtube. The stretches and exercises helped me get over the chronic pain. I still have issues from time to time, but they only last for a week or two when I do some of her exercises and stretches.

      • Penguin

WOW 70? I thought she was middle aged, (45-55) and fit for that.

I learned about stretching while I was a runner. It’s the same as any exercise – don’t overdo it.

you start learning good techniques to stretch muscles you didnโ€™t know you had

And, as she mentions, connective tissue, also. Glad to hear she’s been successful helping you out with some of your muscle pain. As for me, I just don’t want to to go back into any lifting / cardio regime before getting limber.

  23. Gender Traitor

Well, Teh Hype, I’ve been trying to solve the acrostic off and on all afternoon (between laundry, football, and sewing,) and I’m afraid I may be thoroughly stumped. ๐Ÿ™

    • UnCivilServant

I’ve been looking at words all day. Looking at more words may not work out so well.

    • Gender Traitor

      OK, I FINALLY got it!

    • westernsloper

It is BS anyways, I have never been to Ghana.

      • The Hyperbole

That’s why I said. You DIDN”T destabilize it.

      • rhywun

I got that one. Some of the others.

I’ve never come close to solving one of these.

      • Gender Traitor

But do you kinda like the music?

    • The Hyperbole

This one may be a little hard, feel free to Google or DDG 2 clues and not consider it cheating.

      • rhywun

Heh, I wikipediaed the commie element one and did not consider it cheating.

      • Gender Traitor

Now, I would have thought that the letters in 80 and 84 would have been reversed. The phrase makes more sense to me that way, but I haven’t tried to find the quote online to see.

      • The Hyperbole

I just checked my source and that’s how it’s written, could be a transcription error as it’s from a 1927 collection of short stories.

  24. Mojeaux

Since @Pie commented on my studying being boring, I decided to crochet, which is imminently less boring than studying.

    • Gender Traitor

I thought part of the point of crocheting and knitting WAS to be boring – at least for long stretches before some necessary transition. It justifies sitting on your butt on the sofa watching sports.

Once I finish my current sewing project (over two-thirds of the way done!) I think I’ll knit myself a new pair of gloves. Or I may see if I can darn the holes in the thumbs of the old ones.

  25. Animal

This guy has been hanging around all day. First saw him this morning about 1000, now it’s 1543 and he’s still out there, hanging around under the big spruce behind the shop.

We’re hoping he’ll be OK and will move on overnight, but he’s pretty young and it’s been a tough winter on the moose, what with deep snow early and subzero temps.

    • Tundra

      Beautiful.

      • MikeS

Iโ€™d rather they didnโ€™t do it in my yard

For sure. Wasn’t wishing that on you. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Glad he moved on.

    • Fourscore

Nice, he’s just lost his antlers, not even healed yet. He’ll be OK, he’ll find a couple of the big boys and they will show him the ropes, break trails, etc.
We have a number of deer hanging around the bird feeders and a bigger number of turkeys. Both species are getting friendlier and more tolerant. Being a clumsy guy I occasionally spill a little corn and they can do a magic trick and make it disappear.

We didn’t see any deer during season, admittedly we didn’t spend much time in the woods but still. Oh well…learned to sigh stoically

      • Ted S.

Yeah; we had a couple of guys come up and hunt on our woodlot. Saw a lot of deer up until the first of October, and then somehow the deer disappeared for hunting season.

Paragraph after paragraph of glib assertions, redefinitions, shaming, and doom porn.

I found some dances in the Manchester, NH area that don’t require them. I am happy. I won’t have to drive to PA for normal dances.

      • rhywun

I expect Boston area swing dances will require face diapers and clot shots forever.

Seriously? I don’t know from swing dances but even here in NYC I don’t see or hear of diaper requirements anywhere but medical facilities. Though to be fair I don’t really do anything social.

I don’t know what it’s like in Manhattan, for example, not having been above ground there in over two years.

But yeah, I see diapers in the wild but it’s mostly old and/or Asian people. Even teenagers – who were heavy adopters – have mostly ditched them.

      • Gustave Lytton

BB or another one? I’ve seen similar in a couple of other places.

Saw masks required on a couple places in Portland, and not a medical office.

      • Zwak, who has his own double cross to bear.

        Yeah, book bin.

      • Gustave Lytton

I’m somewhat surprised they’re still in business. Their empire has declined from its peak.

      • Ted S.

I’ve told the story, but during the height of the mask idiocy, I was using Sonny as my social distancing. One evening I was walking him and we came upon a pair of walkers from behind. I probably wasn’t going to be within six feet of them at all, let alone long enough for it to matter. Yet they still made a point of very ostentatiously stepping off to a detour in the trail, masking up, and giving me a dirty look.

      • Sean

It’s nice they wanted to protect you from their germs. I hope you sent them a Christmas card.

      • rhywun

        Yeah, even here.

      • Zwak, who has his own double cross to bear.

It makes you wonder; how long did it take to get out from under the Spanish Flu? I have a couple magazines from that era, and there are adds with women wearing masks for that flu.

And with the divided populous, which is a huge part of what is driving this, I am betting it goes on a while longer.

      • rhywun

And we are a very different society now from back then.

I doubt anyone from that era was calling for “masks forever!”

      • Ted S.

Conversely, antipathy from unvaccinated people towards vaccinated people was only observed in Germany and the US.

Seeing how certain people here get giddy whenever a vaccinated person dies of a heart attack, I’d believe it.

      • rhywun

I literally don’t give a shit either way.

But… my body my choice, thank you very much.

  29. hayeksplosives

Is there a Zoom active right now?

    • Ted S.

      Nope; Zoom has shut down.

      /sarcasm

    • The Hyperbole

I believe the Wednesday Zoom link is actually always active but you have to be signed in and let people know you’re there, also I don’t know if its cool or not to use it outside of the Wednesday thing.

      • R.J.

I joined, just out of curiosity. I was the only one there. I am filled with pathos tonight. Or maybe thatโ€™s the broccoli.

      • Penguin

I joined. If you want to come back, RJ, I’ll be happy to discuss cheap movies.

      • hayeksplosives

Thanks, dudes. I was just feeling desperate for a hand-hold due to my very drunk and belligerent spousal unit.

        Always fun, right?!?!?

      • R.J.

Sorry to hear it. I joined again, just for a while. I am off and getting ready for bed.

  30. creech

Well, the Iggles finished with top seed. But based on their lackluster play recently, they shouldn’t exactly scare any other playoff teams

    • rhywun

Tried to watch some football but every time I turn away from this Charmed marathon it’s a commercial.

      • rhywun

All day I’ve been thinking “this show is so nineties” and then I look at the date and it’s 2001.

Funny how decades bleed into each other like that.

      • slumbrew

To my mind, the โ€œdecadesโ€ are offset by 5 years or so: โ€œthe 90sโ€ culture was 1995 to 2005 or so, โ€œthe 80sโ€ was 1985 to 1995 or so, etc.

      • rhywun

I usually place it at a couple years but yeah.

I should have caught it sooner tonight because I did notice that all the dudes had hair product.

      • Chafed

Are you going to reward us with woke Charmed?

      • rhywun

        I don’t know if it’s airing anywhere and I don’t care. I’m old (school).

    • Grumbletarian

I’m glad the Patriots’ season is mercifully over. Now they can plan to trade down from the 14th pick to stockpile a bunch of 4th round picks or some shit.

      • slumbrew

Second half of the season was much improved and had a couple close games (Raiders non-touchdown to tie, fumble on the Bengles goal line) that would have made a difference for the post-season, but they werenโ€™t any sort Super Bowl threat. โ€œWeโ€™re on to next yearโ€. An actual OC would be nice.

  31. R.J.

โ€œSuthen has a recipe for these that likely involves crab boil.โ€

    โ€œCommunistโ€ doesnโ€™t fit.

  33. The Bearded Hobbit

    This has been fun.

Yesterday we began to get huge fluxes in our power. Since we don’t live in California this isn’t normal so I started troubleshooting. After shutting down all of the 240V circuits I determined that our “red” leg was down. Called the power company and they opened up the meter base.

Last summer we had a similar situation where one of the input lugs to the meter had opened. This was a bit more serious as it was one of the clips to the meter had overheated and the plastic assembly was partially melted away.

The sole good news about this was that I was able to convince the power company to leave the “hot” leg connected. I have installed a 2-pole breaker to connect the black and the red together. That gives me lights, and power to the TV, computer, refrigerator, freezer, and most importantly, my C-PAP.

However, I live in a 100% electric house. No heat, no DHW, no cooking on the stove.

Fortunately I have a generator but it is not designed for the full load of the house. I have been cycling through the breakers to get the water heater going and provide heat to selected areas. Our little wood stove has been running nonstop since this morning.

First world problems, I know. We are thankful for the generator and the 120V feed still gives us light and entertainment.

Or, as I put it, “The joys of Country Living.”

    • rhywun

      First world problems, I know.

      2nd world at best ๐Ÿ˜›

Good luck with… all of that I can barely understand.

  34. Brochettaward

If Rodgers blows a play-and-in against the Lions, it would be just perfect.

    • slumbrew

I forgot that was on – watching the Bruins steamroll the Ducks (7-1).

      Switching overโ€ฆ

    • KSuellington

The Niners are gonna steamroll either team they get, but I think Iโ€™d rather watch them take apart the Seahawks this time.

    • R C Dean

Welp, thatโ€™s it for the Packers this season. The Lions played really hard, so they earned it.

      • hayeksplosives

Yup. Glad to see something like parity in the Nuffle. Itโ€™s no fun when itโ€™s always going to be Patriots of Packers on top. Fun to see struggling underdogs fighting their way to building and winning, like the Jaguars.

This will be an entertaining post season.

  35. hayeksplosives

I know I should be rational and thus disdain the British monarchy but I canโ€™t help following them. Maybe because Iโ€™m 98% British, despite my ancestors on both sides arriving in America in the 1600s. I guess their lack oh cross-cultural marriages along the way makes them racist or something.

    Iโ€™m ok with that. (

    Checks white privilege; intact. Awesome.)

    • hayeksplosives

Oh, and my point was that Prince Harry is having a public mental health crisis and needs to be whisked away for counseling and psychiatric evaluation.

I used to think he was just plain stupid, but now I see he is a paranoid self entered whiney bitch.

We in the US consider ourselves superior because we donโ€™t have hereditary titles and positions of power coming from nepotism. Or do we?

      • Gustave Lytton

Child of divorce and mom dying at a young age I think did a number on him. And a rather cold and impersonal familial culture that is very different from the modern world.

      • rhywun

That woman he married is doing a number on him, too.

      • Gender Traitor

Maybe he takes after his Great Great (?) Uncle Edward a little? Not too much, I hope!

That makes me think – if you want to imagine a truly dystopian “alternate history” novel, try one with Edward still on the throne during WWII! Would Churchill & Parliament have been able to prevent him from giving the whole empire away? ๐Ÿ˜ณ

      • UnCivilServant

How would that be different from what happened? I mean they gave the whole Empire away anyway.

      • Gender Traitor

So…similar result, just sooner? ๐Ÿ˜• At least it wasn’t given away to…you know who…

  36. UnCivilServant

    Morning, Glibs.

Have to make breakfast before heading into the office.

How goes it with the rest of you?

    • Sean

      Hey UCS.

      All good here.

      • UnCivilServant

Got my breakfast and lunch made, have the trash ready to go to the curb, I’m dressed for work, and I’ve got a quarter hour before I have to leave.

        I guess that’s good shape.

      • Sean

Not bad for a Monday. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • Grosspatzer

Epic fail. Every day is No Pants Day on NYC Subways, mostly celebrated by the residentially challenged.

      • rhywun

        They’re called urban campers now.

      • Rat on a train

        people experiencing camping?

    • Rat on a train

      They learned from watching US.

    • rhywun

You could power a small city on all the gaslighting going on in that article.

    • UnCivilServant

A bachelorโ€™s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, advertising, or marketing is a plus.

I notice the job posting doesn’t list salary beyond claiming to be “Competitive”

      • Rat on a train

It’s more than what you would get driving for Nathan’s, Hebrew National, or Ball Park.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

      Iโ€™d rather dig ditches.

    • rhywun

A job that requires going into debt for 100K and has no future and you have to deal with the public. Where do I sign up?!

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Just of all the free hot dogs you could jam down your gullet on the sly though. Thatโ€™s got to be worth something.

      • Rat on a train

Don’t forget team apparel will be covered by Oscar Mayer.

      • rhywun

        ๐Ÿคข๐Ÿคฎ

I don’t like hot dogs. That could be a problem.

    • Grosspatzer

      Ignatius Reilly approves.

  37. Sean

    Morning y’all.

Time to get ready for work. ๐Ÿ••

  38. UnCivilServant

So apparently the Lemon originated in Northeast India, was intorduced to Europe before 200 AD, and only showed up in Egypt and Persia in 700 AD?

    • Rat on a train

Citrus originates from SE Asia. So does chicken. Lemon chicken is serious cultural appropriation.

      • UnCivilServant

Until you get SE Asia to give up their chilie peppers, I’m not going to worry.

  39. robodruid

    Good Morning Glibies.
Have to escort another contractor on base. Hopefully this team wont be assholes. I am not optimistic.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, ‘bodru, U, hayek, Roat, Sean, and GL!

‘bodru, can you take your trained attack ram along to help “guide” your visitor(s)? ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ

    • Rat on a train

Many practicing Muslims do not believe in looking at pictures of the Prophet Muhammad as they believe it may lead to worshipping an image.
We have no discipline. We must be protected from ourselves. We will get violent if you don’t.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

^Yeah this, now apply the same logic to women wearing revealing clothing.

  40. UnCivilServant

Okay, Glibs. During the commute this morning, I had water run down the inside of my windshield and I’m trying to think of probable causes and the simplest solution.

It was 25 out, so not terribly cold, but cld enough that when I get into the car the outside was frosted up and the inside was fogged. It had not formed frost on the inside. 15-20 minutes into my commute drops began to run down the inside of the windshield. Raindrop size, and there was no sign of any remaining condensate that had begun on the inside. My mind went to ‘the seal at the top of the windshield is leaking and this is melted frost from the outside.’ The melt patch on the outside did extend onto the front of the roof when I got out, and there was nothing to prove or disprove that first option.

    Any other possible causes?

    • Grosspatzer

      Climate Change?

    • Scruffy Nerfherder

Glue failure at the top of the windshield

      • UnCivilServant

Can I just wash it out and apply some fixative that won’t cause problems if I need to replace the windshield at some future date (ie beware of flying rocks) I don’t think water running down inside the car would be all that healthy for the vehicle, long-term.

      • Sean

        #FlexSeal ?

  41. Grosspatzer

    Mornin’, reprobates!

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, ‘patzie! How are you and yours this fine* morning?

*Your results may vary, but I hope not.

      • Grosspatzer

Heh. All quiet on the patzer front. Five day work week coming up. I need to retire.

  42. UnCivilServant

First time in a long while I get my timecard in on time and [CurrentSupervisor] still hasn’t approved it?

    This isn’t rewarding good behaviour.

    • Grosspatzer

      * lights GT signal.

      Thoughts?

      • UnCivilServant

Oh, I still get paid. Until and unless a term transaction gets processed, the Comptroller will continue to cut paychecks at my pay rate. As long as the deposit clears, I’m good. But you hassle me about getting timecards in, I expect you to be prompt in reviewing them.

      • Gender Traitor

Petty, vindictive passive-aggressive BS because you took the other job?

Sic HR on him. That would serve him right. (Assuming they care about you getting paid on time. I pester supervisors mercilessly if they don’t get timesheets approved by the appointed time, but not everyone cares as much as I do. ::strikes martyr pose::)

      • UnCivilServant

Technically, since we’re on lag pay, I don’t think this timecard gets paid out until either 1/18 or 2/1 Even then I’ve been three tiemcards behind and still gotten paid because the system assumes someone who isn’t hourly is working their appointed hours or charging time.

      • UnCivilServant

And no, I don’t think it’s anything to do with changing jobs. People around here just seem to not process timecards on time.

      • Gender Traitor

That and the fact that you’ll get paid regardless of your timecard’s approval status are reassuring. Have you set up your spreadsheet counting down the days until you get out from under this jerk?

      • UnCivilServant

We’re still negotiating the knowledge transfer period duration.

And I should probably clarify the number of managers involved. [Timecard Approver] sits between me and [Problem Manager] in the chain of command. [Timecard Approver] isn’t the best, but wouldn’t have driven me to jump ship all by his lonesome.
