IFLA: The “Snow!” Edition of the Horoscope for the Week of Jan 29

by | Jan 29, 2023 | IFLA | 54 comments

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I had a snow-deprived childhood.  The lack of the stuff in Oklahoma was compounded by the fact that my grandmother was a schoolteacher so a lot of my early reading material were old primers written from a New England point of view.  So tons of stories and pictures of kids sledding, making snowmen, having snowball fights etc.  I was jealous.  I guess that’s the reason I still am not sick of the stuff after living here a decade, and was irritated about how snowless this winter has been up until this point.  The fact that a nice layer of snow keeps Lily’s coat clean is an additional benefit that I’ve missed.

And frankly, the dogs are treating the first real snowfall the same way kids do.  Vids below to prove it.

I’m going to submit this vid to an online dictionary to be used in the definition of “romp.”

This week starts off rough, but ends well.  The middle is pretty rough too.  Sunday and Monday indicate a diminution of resources followed by a betrayal.  Then for the rest of the week, you’ve got clashing planets with signs (the Moon in Taurus, Venus in Pisces, Jupiter in Aries) which all point to things not going according to plan.  However, Saturday does have an unambiguously fortunate arrangement of the sun with Jupiter and Venus so as long as you can make it through the week, the weekend should be good.

The black-and-white girl there is Mercedes. I don’t know if I’ve shown her before.

Aquarius: Page of Coins reversed – Prodigality, dissipation, liberality, luxury, unfavorable news.

Pisces: The Lovers reversed – Failure, foolish designs.

Aries: Queen of Cups –  Success, happiness, pleasure; also wisdom, virtue; a perfect spouse and a good mother.

Taurus: 9 of Coins – Prudence, safety, success, accomplishment, certitude, discernment.

Gemini: 7 of Cups – Some attainment, but nothing permanent or substantial.

Cancer: 8 of Wands –  Activity in undertakings, great haste, great hope, speed towards an end.

Leo: Wheel of Fortune reversed – Increase, abundance, superfluity.

Virgo: King of Coins – Valor, realizing intelligence, business and normal intellectual aptitude.

Libra: Death reversed – Inertia, sleep, lethargy, petrifaction, somnambulism; hope destroyed.

Scorpio: 10 of Swords reversed –  Advantage, profit, success, favor, but none of these are permanent.

Sagittarius: 2 of Swords – Conformity, balance, courage, friendship.

Capricorn: 7 of Coins reversed – Cause for anxiety regarding money, especially if lending.

Leo gets some good cards at last.

Right? Abundance, increase? I’ll take it.

    • The Other Kevin

My wife is a Leo. So good news for me too.

      • R C Dean

Abundance and increase sounds like yet another Kevin on the way! Congrats.

  2. Gender Traitor

Scorpio: 10 of Swords reversed – Advantage, profit, success, favor, but none of these are permanent.

Well, duh! When are they ever?

Still, I’ll take it…and try to put the profit into as safe an investment as I can manage.

Or “gambol” even. Great videos! Mercedes is a gorgeous pup – and so damn happy!

I have to say after 5 decades of snow, I enjoy it 30 minutes away. We got a dusting last night that will disappear instantly when the sun comes out.

Leo: Wheel of Fortune reversed – Increase, abundance, superfluity.

    That will work.

Aries: Queen of Cups – Success, happiness, pleasure; also wisdom, virtue; a perfect spouse and a good mother.

OK, maybe that describes someone’s life.

Something new this winter — if I throw a snowball and it lands in a drift/bank, Lily will dig it out and bring it back. Toby does the same thing.

  6. Grosspatzer

Gemini: 7 of Cups – Some attainment, but nothing permanent or substantial.

    Expecting a $2.00 PowerBall win.

Thanks for the doggie vids, they always improve my attitude.

Taking her to the park is one of the highlights of my day.

Dogs do good things for your soul.

I finished The peripheral. Thanks to whoever recommended it. Those last two episodes were surprisingly brutal, and Flynn is more of a character out of an Iain M. Banks novel than a William Gibson — but that’s not a criticism at all.

    • kinnath

I enjoyed the peripheral, and I am looking forward to the second season.

I didn’t read the book, so it’s just a stand-alone story to me.

And Chloë Grace Moretz gets to me a in weird way.

I am starting to doubt the scientific accuracy of this,

    • Fourscore

We’re talking about the covid, right?

    • Not Adahn

Not only am I a scientist, I’m an expert. There’s a letter on file with immigration certifying that.

Good day for the Dutch at the Tata Steel chess tournament today.

Anish Giri started final round 1/2 point out of first. He won his match. The 18 year old Uzbeki in first was playing as white against another dutchman. Nordirbek Abdussattorov struggled, losing his first match of the tourney and Giri wins outright.

Nodirbek finished tied for second with world #1 Carlsen, but I think gets second on tiebreak.

8 out of 13 cost Carlsen 7 pts in rating. 8/13 gained Abdussattorov 20 pts and he jumps from #30 in world ratings to #18 and from #4 to #2 among juniors.

after 30 seconds of serious thought I have decided I am rooting for the 49ers and Bengals.

    • Grumbletarian

Agreed. I would root for a meteor strike if we have a Chiefs/Eagles SB.

    • creech

Iggles vs. don’t care which will be their victim in SB.

    • Grosspatzer

Not what I was expecting, but a spot-on take on the minefield comedians now must navigate in order to tell a joke. “Safe” humor is an oxymoron.

    • rhywun

      Mr. Tweet lol

Maybe the purveyors of all this woke nonsense will eventually just tie themselves into knots so tight that they render themselves incapable of butting into our business anymore.

      • MikeS

He should change it to The Mr. Tweet.

      • Ted S.

They’d need a sense of shame for that.

    • Rat on a train

Maybe they don’t want to pay royalties to OSU.

  12. Brochettaward

When I Ascend, I will go to Firsthalla – the upper echelon of The First Realm. MikeS will be going to secatory for an eternity.

Do not be fooled by false Firsters.

    • MikeS

Poor, stupid Bro. Either you couldn’t read what I wrote you last night, or you couldn’t comprehend. Either way, I will have mercy on you after the Firstening.

  13. kinnath

Pisces: The Lovers reversed – Failure, foolish designs.

I just blended three different kinds of mead in a variety of ways to take to a brew club gathering to get feedback. I was planning to enter the best-received blend to the National Homebrew Competition this year.

I guess it’s all wasted effort.

    Fortunately have a Plan B and a Plan C and a Plan D.

    • MikeS

Have you ever entered in a national contest before?

      • kinnath

        A couple of times.

I was at a competition in KC a couple of years ago. They have four past Meadmakers of the Year at the awards dinner. They all said the only way to win was to blend the perfect product. I have not blended any of my meads in the past, although I do it all the time with my sour ales. So, I thought I would give it a try.

I have two or three gold medals from regional competition, but no medals at the national competition.

      • MikeS

Well good luck! That would really help class the joint up if we have a National Gold medal winner Glib. And the regional Golds aren’t too shabby, either. That’s great. I’m no mead expert, but everyone of yours I’ve tasted have been divine.

      • kinnath

        thanks

      • Fourscore

We can round up about 50 or so expert mead tasters in support, Kinnath

      • kinnath

In the past, they typically had about a dozen regional competitions leading up to the national.

So, you get 10 or 15 people at regionals in each category who think they are good enough to compete at the national level. Top three finalist go to national.

At nationals, you are then competing against a dozen gold medalists, a dozen silver medalists, and a dozen bronze medalists from the regionals.

Since the prior winners tend to compete many times, that collection includes at least a few former Meadmakers of the Year as well.

I expect to hold my own a regionals. Nationals is a crap shoot.

    If I anted a friend I’d buy a dog.

“Cancer: 8 of Wands – Activity in undertakings, great haste, great hope, speed towards an end.”

I’m planning on having a good week.

  16. Animal

Libra: Death reversed – Inertia, sleep, lethargy, petrifaction, somnambulism; hope destroyed.

Huh. Guess I’d better get my humours adjusted.

  17. Hyperion

What does the Horrorscope say bout the Bungals going to the big game? Seems overdue, but there’s a woke problem. There’s this QB who is a black dude and well, I mean he looks sort of white to me, but he identifies as black and that’s what matters, and I think it is his turn. So I can’t predict a Bungal victory here.
