Saturday evening Championship eve links!

Sweaty men with their strungths.

Hey, wasn’t the Friday video dump fun? From Paul taking a hammer to the noggin, to five cops stomping the life out of a man who did nothing to deserve it. At least for a few hours tomorrow, we can focus on Championship football. It should be good.

Let’s see what we can pull from the headlines, shall we?

Wonder what his Glibs handle is.

Come hell or high water, there will be war!

If there were female libertarians…

California really needs to look into gun control…

Why come up with new words when you can trot out the same, dusty old trope.

If you need a Lark to get around the park, your hide is too big for the ride.

This popped in my Prime feed the other day, sandwiched between Metallica and Black Sabbath.

Come hell or high water, there will be war!

Enjoy that the headline writer decided to stir up the magazine versus clip controversy. He or she could also be an honorary Glib.

    • Rat on a train

If we are going to use clips we should use Hollywood clips.

    • Fourscore

“Gen. Mike Minihan, head of Air Mobility Command, said, “I hope I am wrong. My gut tells me will fight in 2025.”

That’s good enough for me, General, I’m going with your gut feeling.

/Declares war, reloads an extra clip

  2. Brochettaward

Dry land is not a myth.

    • Ted S.

Bro firsting, however, *is* a myth.

  3. Aloysious

After reading those lynx, I’m afraid to move. That there’s a whole theme park of froot loopiness. Especially West Virginia Man.

    • juris imprudent

I’m just going to note the irony of the Blaze giving coverage to a man with a butane torch.

  4. Brochettaward

Minihan said in the memo that because both Taiwan and the U.S. will have presidential elections in 2024, the U.S. will be “distracted,” and Chinese President Xi Jinping will have an opportunity to move on Taiwan.

Retards do not exclusively end up in politics.

    • Bob Boberson

The military to politics retard pipeline is well established

      • Brochettaward

Like 90% of the generals I see look the same. They are tall white dudes carrying about 50 extra pounds than they should, almost always with a saggy double chin that has left them with no jawline, and a shit ton of bullshit medals they really didn’t do anything to earn.

        I Googled Minihan.

      • juris imprudent

Some good people make the rank, by accident.

      • Gustave Lytton

Wtf with wrong with Welch’s shirt cuffs? Unbuttoned or wearing cuff links?

      • mexican sharpshooter

First off…both the shirt and jacket were bought at military clothing at AAFES.

Second. His wife isn’t too bad to look at.

      • Bob Boberson

It’s the Air Force so being “too busy” to go to the gym is considered a prerequisite. Only second to being a careerist sycophant.

      • Bob Boberson

He probably went straight to a cush gig with Boeing or Lockheed. Seems like he was acting at their behest when he got fired.

      • Scruffyy Nerfherder

Wait, generals can be corrupt? Our esteemed heroes are fallible and greedy?

        Unpossible!

      • Bob Boberson

What’s funny is it’s not very difficult to find examples. I found myself wondering what ever happened to one of the worst O-6’s I ever worked for……a google search later I see that he’s on the board of some word salad-spewing NATO think tank/consulting firm, probably pulling down a nice six figure salary….and that’s an O-6. How much worse is it once you get up into the GO range?

      • Scruffyy Nerfherder

I’ll give the military credit, they’ve managed to bury most of their reputation as a corrupt, bloated bureaucracy. 9/11 changed a lot of that, but still.

      • Bob Boberson

The vax mandate was an egregiously stupid move on their part. It turned off an entire generation of deplorables that otherwise are a not insignificant demographic the draw on to fill out the ranks.

      • mexican sharpshooter

He probably went straight to a cush gig with Boeing or Lockheed.

He also could’ve died in a fire. Frankly, I like my fantasy better.

      • Bob Boberson

I’m sensing some personal animosity. I’m guessing you were there for the “treason” speech?

      • mexican sharpshooter

No. He was merely an O-6 while he was wing king at Shaw AFB. He decided to throw a holiday party, but found out the number of Airmen that were > E7 AND >O3 were enough to fill a large SUV.

So he made a “mandatory holiday party”

      • Bob Boberson

Mandatory fun: the beatings will continue until morale improves.

      • mexican sharpshooter

Here is how unpopular this guy was. Shaw was the only base with an active duty station with a unit dedicated to homeland defense after 9/11.

        https://www.goang.com/discover-ang/missions/unique-missions/homeland-defense-mission.html

The standard is, once the call is made the alert birds have 4 mins to get in the air. I worked airfield lighting one morning and saw them do it. Its pretty impressive. The rumor was, the alert station failed routine checks multiple times on purpose. They had to call the VT ANG to man the station until the Shaw team could get “within standard”.

Meanwhile, he wasn’t fired, they just sent him to Qa’Tar to run this:
        https://www.afcent.af.mil/About/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/217803/combined-air-operations-center-caoc/

Where he again failed up to command PACAF.

      • mexican sharpshooter

Mandatory fun: the beatings will continue until morale improves.

My wife and I attended slightly beyond the minimum 30 mins. The shrimp puffs were actually pretty good, but we went to Texas Roadhouse after that.

      • Bob Boberson

I’m guessing he was somebody’s boy. I’ve seen that plenty of times. Some asshat decides to make a lesser asshat their protege and, performance be damned, they will make sure their protege gets promoted ahead of their peers.

      • Bob Boberson

“AF senior enlisted are a bunch of kiss asses”

That has overwhelmingly been my experience.

      • Rat on a train

The 7th row is the first with an individual merit award. Everything below is participation awards.

      • mexican sharpshooter

Interesting you mention that. Had we a reasonable foreign policy, he’d only have four rows.

      • juris imprudent

A reasonable foreign policy – how 19th century!

      • Bob Boberson

Also I’m calling bullshit on the Bronze Star. The AF gives those out for being combat adjacent.

      • Bob Boberson

Ah. I saw the red and blue and assumed Bronze Star, which the AF has a shameful history of giving out for indirect action.

      • Rat on a train

For valor in defending Aviano Italy from Serb aggression.

      • mikey

AKA “End of tour award”. IOW another participation award.

    • Scruffyy Nerfherder

That sounds suspiciously like a justification for a military coup.

Minihan is probably distilling his water and denying women his essence.

    • rhywun

      the U.S. will be “distracted,”

Yeah, we’ll probably be busy in Ukraine.

      • juris imprudent

I think the military actually has figured out that China and Russia are nearly spent forces, the Islamic threat is no more and FUCKING A – we don’t have anyone to scare our Congresscritters into throwing more money at us; so let’s hype the fuck out of everything now while we still have a tiny chance.

      • Chafed

I can see Russia being a spent force. What makes you say that about China?

      • R.J.

I thought that would be the video of Indian army regulars beating the fuck out of Chinese soldiers who tried to jump the border. They used some sticks to repel the invasion. Sadly I cannot find the link.

      • pistoffnick

        Your google-fu is weak R.J.

    • rhywun

Because of course Google has a “managing director of food, beverages, and restaurants”.

Or, had. I’m guessing the food and beverage department has been recently trimmed.

      • Sensei

My assumption is that it to attract ad revenue and reviews and the like across its platforms.

Or it could be the same unhappy ending as the unneeded 31 massage therapists.

  5. Brochettaward

It is plainly obvious that the responsible thing to do at all times is to raise the debt ceiling without any sort of debate or questioning of the policies that led us to have to raise the debt ceiling in the first place. I mean, that’s the entire point of having a debt ceiling, isn’t it? Who wouldn’t like to just extend themselves more credit every time they max out their credit card?

    • Brochettaward

If the government were unable to issue new debt, the economy would go into a tailspin. “Spending would have to decline to match the tax revenues,” Yellen said, depriving the government of any ability to juice the economy with stimulus.

      The horror…

      • rhywun

I wonder how the last seventy-five juicings went. 🙄

      • juris imprudent

        Roid-rage economy?

      • Fourscore

Yellen is out of checks, economy stops dead. I sort of feel sorry for her, she thinks the music will play forever. When things can’t go on anymore they stop.

  6. rhywun

    smdh

We’re either going to get years of humor watching people try to make this play out or some major event will come along and people will stop pretending this is something serious.

I’m not sure which is worse. Last time it was 9/11.

    • Bob Boberson

I’d like to ask the good reverend how much is enough.

“Gimme” is not a number that I’m aware of.

      • juris imprudent

He can take the issue up with God – it’s His creation anyway.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

I actually hope it goes through in CA.

What will happen will be simple: there will be story after story in 1-2 years about those who blew through the entire thing, and that virtually no one will be better off.

And it will still be because racism.

      • rhywun

And you’ll be able to see the U-Hauls leaving California from space.

But yes, this needs to happen. As a warning to the rest of the country.

      • mikey

Calif Lamborghini dealers should start building up their inventories.

    • mexican sharpshooter

    • Brochettaward

Alls I know is that Newsome better nip this shit in the butt real quick. What these morons are proposing isn’t even remotely possible. It would demolish California’s budget.

Instead, the idiot has his Secretary of State out encouraging the nonsense.

      • Scruffyy Nerfherder

California’s budget is already demolished. The inevitable stock market reaping that’s incoming will set fire to the remains.

      • MikeS

No. I will forgive your ignorance, and show you the same love and patience that I would to any other retarded child.

      • Aloysious

Bob, I read your line, and I heard the voice of Fuck-Ass from Boondock Saints.

  7. DEG

Police were called about a topless woman who allegedly committed vandalism inside the church.

I hate it when that happens.

    • mexican sharpshooter

Really? Had it happen more often, it would make me go back to church, to be honest.

    • EvilSheldon

Hey DEG, you still planning on a run through Gourmeltz tomorrow afternoon?

  8. Brochettaward

to five cops stomping the life out of a man who did nothing to deserve it.

There is something fundamentally broken in American policing where cops feel as though any level of force is justifiable no matter what the offense is for disobedience. The guy was supposedly pulled over for reckless driving. Like, it aint that fucking serious if he gets away from you and you have to arrest him tomorrow. You know who he is – you have his fucking car.

    • Homple

My guess: Steroids, authoritah, and resentments from previous interactions.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

Rule #1: Get home safe, no matter how many innocent people you have to kill to make it happen.

      • Brochettaward

I don’t know. Chasing down some guy to give him a beating poses some actual risk to officer safety. It really conflicts with that stated number one priority. The cops in this instance had the weight of numbers, but they were pretty worn out by the end of things. They were out of breath, one guy was complaining about hurting his knee etc. It was actually kind of pathetic. 4-5 of them couldn’t subdue one guy and aint like he was on PCP as far as we know.

Too many cops in general are just like high school bullies backed by the full weight of the government. And it’s amazing to me just how little professionalism there actually is. Nearly ever single video I see of cops interacting with the public seems to involve them cursing like a sailor in ways that would get a normal peon hit with disorderly charges for acting that way in public.

I do want to see what led up to them pulling his ass out of the car. It doesn’t justify the beating, but the video makes it look like they completely escalated things at every step of the way and legitimately made the dude fear for his life. I think we need to establish the same sort of standard for running from cops that cops have for using lethal force. What would a reasonable citizen be thinking in this situation…

      • juris imprudent

And you got at least a 50-50 chance of getting covered by qualified immunity for whatever bullshit behavior you pull. Let’s see, give people authority to use violence and minimize the consequences for their abusive behavior – I don’t know, is there something ferrous here?

      • Scruffyy Nerfherder

You should check it with a magnet.

      • Gustave Lytton

how little professionalism there actually is

Basic grooming and uniforms have pretty much gone by the wayside in the past twenty years. Scruffy unkempt armed goons.

      • Scruffyy Nerfherder

      • Gustave Lytton

        Sorry, that was uncalled for.

      • Bob Boberson

        +1 Tacticool

      • Nephilium

Hey now… I think neck and face tattoos are still banned by most police departments.

  9. mexican sharpshooter

Then fear might run loose, making consumers too scared to spend — a scenario Yellen called “psychological consequences” that “could further impact spending and deepen a recession.

“five cops stomping the life out of a man who did nothing to deserve it”

You cannot deny the media’s dedication to their narrative. Making this about racism despite the fact that everyone involved was Black. The level of cognitive dissonance is truly impressive. Meanwhile, the great Evul that is Elon Musk let’s people say shit on Twitter. You can’t just let people say stuff! The end is nigh.

    • rhywun

      Making this about racism

That was about getting BLM out there for the daytime peaceful stuff followed by their Antifa buddies to wrap things up with some violence during the night show. It all kind of fizzled out though.

      • Hyperion

At least we continue letting the cops kill people, with on consequences, unabated. Big mission accomplished, I guess. BLM will still be waiting when we need them, like useful idiots do.

This is a sad day for me.

Radley Balko is something of a personal hero to me. His reporting on police abuse and prosecutorial misconduct and forensics fraud was tremendously important. I followed him to HuffPo and then to WaPo where I left him as he became more partisan and less original in his reporting.

BLM killed all the progress he made with “rise of the warrior cop” by turning the conversation to race after Ferguson.

    And now?

He is all-in on never reforming anything and blaming everything on race.

    https://twitter.com/radleybalko/status/1619439706110054400?t=J75WtPm9k3HmFjU8illWKw&s=19

He went from the best reform advocate to … I don’t even know what to call someone who claims that a black mayor and a black police chief and black cops are actually white supremacy in action.

    • cyto

At least Kmele is calling him out.

    • rhywun

    • MikeS

With one or maybe two exceptions, I’ve always stayed out of the Twitter cesspool. But, I replied to Balko’s ridiculous assertion that Republican cities are just as murdery as Dem led cities.

      https://twitter.com/alanesque/status/1619466424866729984

      • cyto

Yeah, I had fallen out of touch With where he had evolved to because I was not on Twitter. I joined Twitter in response to the musk take over.

at 1st it was kind of interesting to see how all of these well known writer’s thought. Now that I’ve heard more, it is much less interesting and more nauseating.

I will say that I now understand why they want to live in an echo chamber. Most of the people express some really stupid things most of the time, even the ones I agree with

      • rhywun

NYC had Republican mayors for 20 years and the murder rate went down 80 percent.

Two can play that dumbfuck game, Radley.

      • rhywun

. I think crime is mostly driven by factors that have little to do with who is in office.

OK. I agree with him here.

Not sure WTF he was doing going on about Ds and Rs and then burps up this comment.

      • MikeS

You don’t think decades of race-baiting collectivists running a city have anything to do with current crime levels?

      • rhywun

NYC’s murder rate is like 1/4 that of Philadelphia and both are now perma-Dem cities.

There are clearly more factors at play than which party is currently holding the mayoralty.

        Alternately, correlation != causation.

      • MikeS

        Fair’nuff

      • MikeS

To be sure, there a lot of factors at play. And it’s long past time everyone had a gown-up conversation about why that is.

        Narrator: It won’t happen

      • cyto

Could be the other way around…. the factors that drive crime up also drive up democrat voting.

But… Rahm Emanuel. Dude presided over a ramp-up of murder that was truly staggering. And doubled down on every bad choice.

        And Baltimore. Just everything.

      • rhywun

To be fair, I agree that it is a strong correlation.

Even more so in recent years with Dems pursuing pro-criminal policies.

      • Lackadaisical

Rhywun, Philly never had their Rudy Giuliani.

    Good Morning:
It seems I have a project from hell.
Contractor who was supposed to drill 15 or so boreholes has only gotten 4.5 done since Monday. Drill Rig broke down, and wont be back up to Tuesday at best.
Tuesday is supposed to be ice and snow.

Drill rig is stuck in golf course with bit in the ground.
I wont be there next Saturday to help…

Getting a late start for NC. It’ll probably be closer to 4 when I get to Gourmeltz. I have Ron’s number, I’ll update him on the way. Or, VA folks interested can e-mail me at thorby455 AT proton DOT me.
