Bring on the hay fever!

I mean, there’s still plenty of snow and rain to go, but we have turned to corner. How do I know? Patio season started this week. As in, actually outside.

Links?

THEY’VE GOT HIM NOW!!!

Elon has a prediction.

Even ChatGPT can recognize a simp.

Nothing but lies, damn lies and statistics!

Okay, I’m off to the patio, cocktail in hand. Enjoy!

Way to flaunt your Warm Weather Privilege. It’s cloudy and 27 degrees here in SW OH, dammit. 😒

    • The Other Kevin

Good afternoon GT, hope you’re having a good weekend.

      • Gender Traitor

Hi, TOK! Other than the weather, I AM having a good weekend. (I’m learning how to play cribbage! 😁) How about you?

      • The Other Kevin

Kind of laid back. I got a good workout in this morning, did some side work for my old employer, and now I get a quiet house to myself for a few hours. I needed this.

      • Gender Traitor

        👍🏼👍🏼

    • hayeksplosives

We got about 60 in Everett WA.

Going to go down to the water for dinner tonight, I hope. Then the posse from San Diego heads back home for the next few weeks.

But I will stay busy with work! Lots of good ideas were sparked this week, and next week we will let them germinate and eventually bloom, I hope.

      • R C Dean

“Lots of good ideas were sparked this week”

        One of the classier euphemisms.

  2. The Other Kevin

This arresting Trump thing is so dumb. The idiots have not figured out that if you ignore him he’ll go away. But the usual suspects are claiming that if he’s arrested, that means he’s guilty. Never mind they spent SEVEN YEARS trying and trying to figure out something that will stick, and failing every time.

I’m tired of this show, can we change the channel?

    • The Bearded Hobbit

Sorry, it’s on all the stations.

      • The Other Kevin

Makes me wish I was one of those cranks who doesn’t own a TV.

      • hayeksplosives

Now that I have flown the coop and moved with literally three suitcases of clothes, laptop pcs, and guns, I am considering NOT getting a Tv.

I’ll see how it plays out.

Today I went to the apartment and took delivery of the bed. Very nice.

      • R C Dean

        “took delivery of the bed”

        Also classy.

      • Chafed

        Lol.

    • rhywun

It’s almost like they’re trying to distract from something else.

And of course it will work.

    • creech

Seems to me it is a very clever move on Dems part to help Trump paint himself as a martyr, thus advancing his chances to win the GOP nomination, whereby the Dems figure he will be easier to beat in the general election than almost any other Republican. They don’t want him to go away until after Nov. 2024.

      • SandMan

        That’s my take also.

    • Chafed

      You couldn’t be more right.

  3. rhywun

Bonus points if you can understand a single word.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

      • Shirley Knott

“Skrillex” wasn’t sufficient warning to scroll on by?

      • rhywun

        Never heard of it.

And I hope to never again.

      • KSuellington

Thanks T, solid 90’s tune there with a sweet ass bass line. I had heard the name Skrillex, but hadn’t realized how shitty the music was, and I am highly open to a variety of musical sounds.

      • slumbrew

Were you here for the thread about the beginning of that song, and how it’s a sample of a song that samples English phone sounds?

        https://youtu.be/ZygIVDql8Bk

      • Chafed

        That’s just annoying.

  4. Tundra

    Cheers, Spud!

The JP article was great, until:

    10. Use of renewable energy is increasing
Fossil fuels, which have a major impact on the Earth’s climate, have dominated the energy mix of most countries for decades. They are responsible for the vast majority of greenhouse emissions and cause significant air pollution, affecting human health.

They just can’t help themselves. Every single item preceding it was because fossil fuels are so fucking awesome. Dispshits.

I shouldn’t be happy when Branson fails. But I am.

    • rhywun

I balked at #8 and then bailed, but yes #10, if fully realized, will kill billions.

  5. Animal

Patio season started this week. As in, actually outside.

Not here. Still have six feet of snow on the deck.

    • Tundra

Yeah, and? Bundle up, grab a cocktail and sally forth!

      • Animal

I do! Just not on the deck.

Honestly, the winters in Fraser are tougher than here, for the most part.

      • Tundra

Do you have lots of sun? That helps immensely.

      • Animal

Not so much. We have a lot more cloudy days than the mountain West, being so much closer to the ocean. And in winter, when it’s clear and sunny, that’s when you get the really, really cold temps.

April, May and June are usually pretty sunny. June is our prettiest (and buggiest) month. July is pretty nice. By late August, we’re getting more rainy days.

      • Tundra

So you didn’t move there for the weather! AK is on my list, though.

      • Animal

Well, I will say this: Up here, out in the Valley, it’s beautiful, clean and free. Those are the best things about it.

      • Tundra

One of my hunting buddies went up there in like 1996 “just for the summer.”

He never came back. I can’t wait to see it.

      • Animal

We’ve heard a lot of those “just for the summer” stories. A lot.

I spend a fair amount of time wishing I’d headed up here when I graduated high school. But then I wouldn’t have met Mrs. Animal. And, as my Dad was fond of saying, “things usually work out for the best in the end.”

      • Tundra

Haha! Yeah, the older we get, the woulda, shoulda, coulda gets more prominent.

        I’m gonna get up there.

      • Fourscore

Today you went over the 12 hour of daylight mark, as did we here in MN. Every day now your days will be longer than ours, for the next 6 months.

I can’t even open the door to the deck, we’ll have snow ’til May, looks like. At least I can get my truck out of the garage, thanks to my neighbor and his bobcat.

      • Tundra

How is your grand daughter liking it? Any pups on the way?

      • Fourscore

They signed on for year 4.

Looks like I’m gonna be a great grandpa by HH time or shortly thereafter

  6. Ownbestenemy

Just got back from lunch with what I would call my step daughter (from previous marriage) and meeting her boyfriend and beautiful baby boy.

Her mom (my boys mom) just passed and her dad has been a dickhole since she was young.

    It was a good day

    • Gender Traitor

That’s great to hear. I know that whole situation has been troubling. How are your boys?

      • Ownbestenemy

Boys are doing well. As well can be. Thanks GT for asking!

    • Tundra

This is very confusing, but a new life is always a good thing! Are you sort of a grandpa?

      • Ownbestenemy

Don’t know if that is what she wants but definitely want to be there for her, regardless of title.

How come through this site and you great people we get labeled as uncaring assholes? I don’t think I have ever seen a more compassionate group of people

      • Tundra

It’s why I don’t care for labels. Love is not political.

Share pics of the baby, please.

      • Tundra

        What a handsome boy!

Thanks OBE. Enjoy being the grandpa that the boy will always revere!

      • Ownbestenemy

I hope so! He is a tank…1 year and in 18 mo. size but not a chubby fat baby…just solid.

      • Ted S.

        OK, you’re a caring asshole. :-p

    • hayeksplosives

Sometimes family relationships are complicated. Glad you guys were able to make contact. I hope some good continuing relationships will follow.

I had an uncle (mother’s brother) who married a woman and became stepdad to her kids. When they divorced, the stepkids decided they wanted to stay with him, not even a blood relative, rather than go with their mom.

      • Ownbestenemy

Yeah I tried when the divorce happened but the ex shut me out. That was painful so to have some of that go away is nice.

    • Chafed

Here is to family by choice.

    • Tundra

      That is beautiful! Thanks, Toxeth!

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        EGould!

      • Tundra

Where the fuck have you been?!?

Great song. I’ve seen Elvis a bunch and, love him or hate him, he gets after it.

        Still in Seattle?

      • egould310

Hey hi hello to you all. Yep, still in Seattle. Wife and I are healthy, and happy. How are you guys?

      • Tundra

Things are great! I actually moved to Colorado in 2021, so my life is weird. I miss Minne, but love the weather and being near the kids.

Playing in a band out there yet?

      • egould310

Nice move to Colorado. Not in a band, yet. Covid kind of fucked up alot of plans. But my guitar is strong. I’ll put something together.

      • Tundra

My little girl is playing bass in an all chick band. They just got booked at the Fox theater in Boulder!

        /dad brag

      • R.J.

        *Ahem
“Greetings fellow Glib! I am also a Glib! Nice to meet you!”

      • Spudalicious

        Fuck off, Tulpa!

      • Tundra

God dammit. I was so happy to see him I missed the opportunity.

        Thanks, Spud.

      • Sean

        Dude!

    • The Other Kevin

WOW that was cool! Those vintage synths! I’ve ever seen a DX1. Thank you.

    • Animal

Is this the right Zoom link? I just dropped by and nobody’s there.

      • KK the Porcine Pearl-Eater

        Same one from last night

      • KK the Porcine Pearl-Eater

I’ll sign on in 30 mins or so

  7. LCDR_Fish

Not a bad day. Men’s Breakfast with a bunch of guys from church, helped a buddy move some junk to the dump (he’s doing a lot of renovation), ripped up a lot of shrubbery in the front yard and clipped some trees and tried out a new slow cooker recipe for “cowboy beans” (not as keto as my previous recipe, but a heckualot cheaper than $30 for 4 cans of black soybeans from amazon).

May post pics of the front yard after I figure out what’ll replace shrubs and get it in place. Any tips for ripping up older roots? I have a large prybar, but thinking it might be more worthwhile to just pay a pro.

    • Spudalicious

      Tow chain and a truck.

    • Scruffyy Nerfherder

      What kind of roots?

      • Scruffyy Nerfherder

Whatever they are, I’m partial to using a small backhoe or excavator.

    • Spudalicious

      Or a family of Samoans.

      • R.J.

        What was that?

      • rhywun

        Horrifying.

      • Ted S.

It was my impeccable taste in music.

      • Mojeaux

        Talooooooooooofa!

    • R.J.

I use a large prybar and a sawzall. Cut it into manageable chunks for removal.

    • PudPaisley

If they are close to the house, a mattock and a high lift jack with a chain. Cut the outer roots with the mattock, put a block under the jack, wrap a chain around in, and use the jack to lift it out. Really all depends on size of root balls and plant variety. I’ve done a lot of jobs this way. Having the pry bar also helps.

      • LCDR_Fish

Yeah, immediately in front of the house (although if I do a whole bunch – one on the side too). I’ll ask a buddy – mostly old rose bushes and similar things – probably almost as old as the house so going on 10 yrs. I like the idea about the combo – just not sure if it might be cheaper this time around to hire someone unless my buddy has those tools too.

      • LCDR_Fish

I’ve cut most of them down to 12 inches or less above the dirt. Started some prying but hard to get a good angle to actually bust the roots.

      • LCDR_Fish

Also one of them is fairly close to the water line.

      • PudPaisley

Roses usually aren’t too tough to dig out with a mattock. Often it’s quite easy and fast. Use the adz end to grub out around the edges and find where the main lateral roots are, then use the axe end to chop those if too big to tear up with the adz end. Then use the adz end to get underneath the base of the shrub and use the handle to pry it up. Most roses don’t have a deep tap root and are usually pretty easy to dig out. If it goes smoothly, it also saves a big mess when you get done and often need little dirt to fill the hole.

Another note – Since you are going to have it tore up anyway, I would make sure you have a nice grade from the foundation out at least five feet to prevent any potential water damage. If you do add dirt, tamp it down doing the Indian dance after each inch added to get proper compaction.

      • PudPaisley

Also, after doing the initial grubbing, the pry bar will also often work to lift it out or expose the remaining roots to chop. If the shrubs are only 10 years old, they shouldn’t be too difficult to get out. You will earn some sweat equity doing it.

  8. dbleagle

This should be the last day of Kona (from da south) winds with the Trades returning tomorrow just in time for a race. My pool is back into the 80s and the hibiscus plants are in a blooming frenzy. The avocado has plenty of bees doing their thing. The only bust so far is the almost complete absence of mango blossoms on this side of the island.

Prepping short ribs for dinner later.

    • creech

If you are trying to make us envious, it is working.

      • dbleagle

Naaah. There are issues with living in America’s Polynesian Outpost as well. Winter WX just isn’t one of the issues.

This State is in a perpetual state of disfunction where even the easy things are difficult. Plus the Jones Act fucks over the economy each and every day.

I have zero plans of remaining here after my work days are done.

      • Chafed

And yet your gas is cheaper than California’s.

        /also planning to leave

      • Scruffyy Nerfherder

You can check out, but you can never leave.

      • Shirley Knott

Motto of the California tax authorities.

  9. Scruffyy Nerfherder

Speaking of hay fever, I’ve been dragging ass all day and couldn’t figure it out until my wife told me my eyes were swollen. Allergies make me tired.

Tomorrow I’ll hit the Sudafed and get something done.

  10. robodruid

Well low of 23 tomorrow, looks like i have replanting in my future.

    • kinnath

we had single digits this morning

      • whiz

We woke up to single digits in Iowa, and are going to sleep with a temp of 80 in Hawaii. Good start to the vacay.

      • R.J.

Below freezing in Mississippi this morning.

  11. Festus

Five feet of snow. Spring is just a tickle in Summer’s balls.

  12. Ted S.

    Good morning, fellow reprobates!

    • Shpip

G’mornin’. Time for me to hit the sack.

  13. Not Adahn

    Morning!

Lily had a vet visit yesterday. She’s in excellent health but too chonky. It’s hard to tell under her winter coat.

  14. hayeksplosives

    Good morning, all!!

I am probably going to go right back to sleep in a few minutes, but for now I’m savoring the lovely aftershocks of some good good lovin’.

Man, it’s amazing how the years can just peel back when one is properly motivated.

    • Not Adahn

      Gratz!

  15. Sean

    Morning Glibs.

  16. Fourscore

Sunday morning coming down. Cold, 2 on the north side of the thermometer but looks likes a little melting of snow today

  17. Not Adahn

Last winter steel shoot of the… winter today!

Then I can shoot things that are someone else’s responsibility.

      Pew pew pew!
