Yes, gloriosity has come to Spudland. Irrigation water is on, the river is turned up almost to flood stage in anticipation of record runoff, and I’m already sneezing and spraying weeds. I’ll take it over February any day.
Let’s link!
Nobody will ask how the Mexican national got the gun in the first place.
It remains to be seen if Fox stepped on its on dick here.
Well played Mayan, well played.
Okay, kids. That’s it for me. Go out there and do something fun!
I spent this beautiful afternoon in Blackfoot, rooting around in my storage unit, trying to find my goddam car titles. I used to keep them in a neat bundle on the shelf under my computer. Apparently, when I moved, I decided to put them in a box where they would be safe and I’d know right where to find them.
Hahahahahahahahaha.
fuck.
I like Blackfoot.

Brooks, I have a lot of things like that. Tools, documents, etc. They are in a very secure place, apparently.

He bought it from someone?
“The shooting renewed calls from gun control advocates for a federal ban on assault weapons, which have a unique ability to destroy the human body.”
Not compared to, well, nearly every other gun I own. And I would much rather get shot by a .223 than a 12 gauge.
“It was at least the seventh incident this month in which an armed American shot people in response to regular, everyday interactions.”
There it is. The new anti-gun narrative coalesces.
He’s not an American.
According to left if he breathes he has the right to become an American simply by crossing “a line on a map.” He is in Texas so he is an American in their eyes. To point out he is an illegal alien is to point something that is not germane to their larger issue of disarming actual Americans.
The Germans got nuthin’ to do with it!
The last ban had a unique ability to cause the murder rate to skyrocket.
Two can play that game.
I’d like an explanation of what makes them unique.
AR-15 style. In that it shoots bullets. Since it appears the shooter manifests strange behavior the ATF must have missed him. ‘Course the behavior came after he already had the gun.
I like Blackfoot.
It’s too flat up there. Otherwise, I like it.
I only have brief experience driving over to hunt.
DeSantis might be gassed from all the international travel but he’s certainly doesn’t have Trump-level wattage.
Tucker should remain independent. Newsmax is dumb.
I only have brief experience driving over to hunt.
Birds? There was a big fat pheasant in my back yard a few days ago. There is a surprising lack of deer around here. With all the fields of grain and hay, you’d think the place would be crawling with them.
Duck and goose. I haven’t made it over for a pheasant hunt yet.
It’s crawling with deer hunters, too.
The massive amount of grain crops is a white tail paradise.
6 deer in my new yard this morning. I VERY LARGE rabbit and 2 turkeys.

This, on the face of her testimony, is horrible. If the testimony is found factually correct, multiple teachers, administrators, and perhaps a student or two should be tossed from the school and district less they become winners in a Mussolini at an Esso Station look alike contest,
But placing the child, and the dollars, in a private school is worse than Hitler according to the teachers unions.
My parents moved my step brother to a private school, in part because of bullying. When he told his teacher at the public school from which he was being moved that he was leaving, the teacher berated him, told him there’s no bullying at their school, and that whatever other problems the school may have had he was making them worse by leaving because the school would lose funding. When he pointed out to the teacher that his dad paid the same school district taxes regardless of whether he attended or not, and that he was having to pay more money on top of that for private school, the teacher descended into profanity, told him his dad was an idiot and a liar, and helpfully explained that losing students means funding cuts. This was ’90, ’91-ish. My dad was fucking livid.
The school might lose funding on a per-student basis while dad’s taxes go up some union hack’s veins or get thrown at strippers.
So I had a slightly lefty/hippie friend who got married in the early 00’s and they moved to Chicago when their first kid was 1 or so… he mentioned to me that “of course we are going to pay for private school.” That was an eye-opener to me.
The school might lose funding on a per-student basis
Yep. Some states base state funding on number of students at the school.
Even so, I see why Pat’s dad was livid.
I note she mentions Discord.
I predict some of the usual suspects will pick up on this story to use it to restrict Discord.
Considering Discord’s privacy policies (tl;dr: “We log and record everything including your VOIP data everywhere all the time for eternity”), I’m actually amazed how freely people use it for things like that and how infrequently the feebs spy on its users.
Penn Delco. I thought her accent sounded familiar.
Tomorrow instead of racing we will be the all knowing, all powerful- RACE COMMITTEE! We’ll set the marks, establish the start/finish line, determine the race courses, raise and lower various flags and sound horns, keep times and record finishes. All while drinking free beer and eating various snacks that the state of Cali probably doesn’t approve of.
Being the RC actually has value since you can watch the racing objectively and see how the various boats react. Since we’ll be racing against them several times next month it may come in useful. You try to observe everything going on around you when you racing, but you have to actively race the boat which takes you away from just observing.
That white supremacist pic in the illo, I can’t even…
I think it’s kind of the collective press to pretend like nobody read those leaks and hype up the “unexpected” Ukrainian counter-offensive and imminent victory. I wonder what will happen if Russia recovers components of those two “Ukrainian drones” with a lot of English-language writing and Raytheon serial numbers.
Another Saturday night, and I ain’t got nobody, but I know that I’ll have someone to talk to if I join the Weekend Glib Auto Zoom. Like Winston’s Mom, it’s open 24×7, but the kids who pretend they’re cool enough to have lives don’t sign on until 8:00 PM Eastern. Join us for real estate woes support and fellowship; microwaveable turnovers generally containing one or more types of cheese, meat, or vegetables; butt-biting; bonhomie; and, of course, hijinx.

I wish somebody would start asking why people are wrapped so tight. Every simple disagreement is portrayed as an epic struggle between the forces of good and the forces of darkness.
Oh, they have. A columnist in today’s fish wrap pinned it squarely on conservative media creating crime “fear and paranoia,”
Is that where we’re told not to believe our lying eyes?
Being worried about general crime is fear and paranoia, despite being more common than say mass shootings which are very rare events.
Contractor starts work on my condo on Monday.

Gawd I was so looking forward to that. It’ll be another ~5 years before it happens, though
I think they pulled the explanation out of
Urtheiranus. When the party animals of the UK business community call you low-wattage…
On the other hand, it’s the UK. They’d say the same thing of any US politician with an R next to their name. I don’t know why any Republican presidential contender (which technically Ron still ain’t, btw) would stop on the continent for their requisite 2 minutes’ hate, except maybe it plays well with the base to be rejected by eurofags.
What, pray God, is their assessment of Brandon?
Useful idiot?
I have said it before but DeSantis should sit this one out. R’s should throw all their efforts into the Senate, make sure to keep the house, and let Trump suck all the air out of the room. Which, lets face it, he is gonna do. Let the D’s have it, knowing all the damage that Biden will do, and be prepared to go deep in ’28.
They need to rebuild the brand; a combination of small business and workers, fiscal responsibility, and shit-can loosing culture war crap, while keeping the parts that work. IE focus.
Yeah, Trump has this one to lose. He will undoubtedly get the nomination and be the Dem’s dream candidate to lose to Dementia Joe. Harris will be President within one year of the election. Hopefully the Repubs get the Senate to at least gridlock most of the terrible shit they oppose. As much as DeSantis is okay for a Repub, he will never win the Presidency after the 6 week ban on abortion he just signed. If the Elephants don’t get the pro-life wing under heel they won’t be holding either house of Congress for a while, no matter how shitty the Dems are.
I hear this conventional wisdom all the time, but when you get into abortion polling that presents more nuance than an all-or-nothing false dichotomy that didn’t even exist in the bad old ’60s before Roe v. Wade, there just doesn’t really seem to be this colossal bloc of otherwise uncommitted voters whose primary policy concern is unlimited abortion access. Those voters already have a political home and were never on the table anyway. And even if there were such a bloc, it should be an utter non-issue in federal elections now that abortion has been re-federalized. All the pro- and anti- efforts should be focused on the laboratories of democracy now.
Steering clear of “culture war” issues is equally bad advice. It isn’t 1995 anymore. The religious right isn’t trying to ban rap albums. The “culture war” issues are things like allowing teachers to socially transition grade school children without the knowledge or consent of their parents. Ignoring those issues and leaving the field to the lunatic left is going to cause permanent, fundamental Overton window shifts.
Agree on both counts.
The GOP candidates should rightly decline to express any opinion on abortion.
And they should loudly oppose Biden’s federal law-making on woke shit (too many areas to elaborate).
In Ron’s case it’s obviously something he’s going to have to address in the press because of his activities as a governor, but the way to juke the issue is to simply say “It’s up to each state to make their own policy on abortion,” and if pushed to elaborate, “I support the policies that were passed by the duly-elected legislature in my home state of Florida, and as president I will respect the laws passed by the duly-elected legislatures in every other state.”
Banning all abortion (and near bans like the 6 week one in Florida) is extremely unpopular and also happens to be one of the top three issues that Dems have been fundraising and running on for 50 years now. With Roe being canned that is all a bit more real now and this last election we just saw lots of evidence that hardcore pro life candidates got hosed such as in the Michigan and Pennsylvania guv races. The Repub in Nevada won the guv race by saying he wasn’t pro abortion but that he did not support any type of national ban on it. If Repubs run on not restricting it before 3 or 4 months that is absolutely in line with popular American opinion on the matter. That’s not going to drag them down. FWIW I don’t necessarily think Repubs should lean away from so called culture war issues, in many respects they should lean into them.
And if even a mild abortion restriction law can’t even come close to pass in frigging Kansas of all places, putting it in the spotlight as an issue is going to turn off a fair enough number of independents.
If it’s unpopular enough in any given state to cost a legislator their position, it won’t get passed, so it’s a self-limiting problem. The Dems are preaching to their choir fundraising on the issue, as they mostly have been all along. They still want it to be a national issue, of course, and they won’t have any trouble convincing the single-issue crowd that it is, but Republicans in national elections can easily sidestep the issue now and pin it on SCOTUS for returning it to the states.
The Dems were largely preaching to their choir on the issue as most American women, save the oldsters came to maturity with Roe being the law of the land. So the true believers could chant it all they wanted, but to most American women having abortion access severely restricted was not something they really believed would happen. When it did, it made it real and it made it way more of an issue. If Mastriano and Dixon had said they were not interested in passing any further abortion restrictions they would not have been severely trounced and maybe would have won utterly winnable races. Bans on abortions in the third trimester aren’t going to sway anyone, 6 week or greater restrictions most certainly will.
Difficult to say, it’s not as if they were in safe Republican states in the first place. But again, in their case, it makes (at least some) sense. As governors, they would be signing the bills put forward by their state legislatures (which legislatures would be highly unlikely to pass bans as restrictive as the governor would prefer given the political composition of those states). For presidential politics it should be a non-issue now given that SCOTUS kicked it back to the states, although the Democrats and friendly media are going to do their damnedest to make sure it still plays as a national issue.
I disagree on the abortion track. People might not like late term abortions, but in an either/or world, they will default to access. Right now, and forever more, that is the D side of the aisle. Far too many people do not want their stupid 15 year old daughter to be saddled with a kid. Telling her to keep it in his pants works about as well has it always did; not at all. And many of the other culture war issues don’t really effect them. Unless they are dealing with a trans kid, it seems ok. Unless they are living in a high crime city, it doesn’t matter. And so on. Culture wars only affect those who are made to care, everyone else just sort of shrugs.
Remember, we are knee deep in this whole shebang, and forget that most other people aren’t.
That’s only on the table in literally all of about 3 states though. When you get into more granular questions about viability and limits, it’s actually a pretty small minority that agrees with the Democratic Party platform, which supports publicly-funded abortion at any time from conception until birth (or even shortly after birth, as Northam suggested – and didn’t lose any sleep over the votes his position would cost him the way Republicans on the other end are supposed to). Little suzie’s accidents are generally going to be taken care of the proverbial “morning after,” or probably within the first 6 weeks that the more restrictive states are adopting. And even those are a minority. A 15-24 week standard like those found throughout most of Europe shouldn’t be, and likely isn’t actually, controversial.
That’s the rub. The Democratic machine is going to work overtime to keep people ignorant and afraid on the issue, but Republicans don’t need to be hiding from a “Hey, maybe once the thing can be gestated in a neonatal ICU you shouldn’t be allowed to kill it anymore” position. That’s not really an outside-the-mainstream position.
But you forget Pat that the vast majority of mothers of teens don’t want Suzie (or Stevie) to be saddled with a kid while in high school. Even in the ultra-violet blue state of Hawaii the Dems are running on abortion. This is a state with 5 GOP in the state house and zero/null/none in the state senate. Oahu will be subducted into the Aleutian Trench before abortion is at risk out here. Yet this is the issue that is in many ads because it is THE key issue for so many women.
Women of the type of our mythical libertarian female members of Glibs are not even a rounding error in most urban and suburban areas.*
If the Elephants can’t effectively address this issue in 2024 they will be overrun so badly “fortification” won’t be an issue.
*If biden’s handlers clusterfuck us into a war then add drafting women into the campaign mix. Momma may not want Stevie drafted but she will stand on the barriers over Suzie being drafted.
Which means the stupid party will do something completely different.
It won’t be the least bit surprising if Team Red loses both houses along with the Presidency in 24. The pro lifers can look forward to a national law enshrining abortion on demand at least up through 6 months.
To rebut myself above, yeah I’m probably not being cynical enough on the Abortion Effect.
Hell, it was evident during the 2022 election.
I didn’t think it would be as much of a factor, but 2022 proved me wrong. Pro-life candidates and ballot measure lost bigly everywhere. Michigan re-elected Meg “Lockdown” Whitman by 15 points against the Republican pro life nutter who actually came out in favor of forcing rape victims to bare children. The Pennsylvania Repub idiot claimed his first act would be trying to get a 6 week ban in effect. They were the caricature of every single Dem pro choice propaganda of the last half century and they lost big time in an election that should have been competitive.
It raises a question of do we want someone to run on principles or “to win”.
Abortion is not even in my top 20 issues. It falls under a general “the government should largely stay the fuck out of it” sentiment. That doesn’t mean I think it’s moral, but it really is a sliding scale from conception to birth. I’d be fine with a general post 15 week ban like most of Europe has with exceptions for medical emergency stuff.
I’m honestly not sure the country can take another four years of the Borg continuum.
Especially since the executive branch just makes laws now and nobody bats an eyelash.
Or of Trump for that matter. I’d expect open calls for revolution in the media and a military industrial complex itching to coup should it somehow come to pass*
*i think the election shenanigans would get turned up to 23 to prevent it
It can’t.

I have A Spoiler for Tuesday’s Airbrushing Article.
I wish I’d waited until I’d gotten to this stage before submitting the article, now I can’t add this picture. Admittedly, everything done after the last article image was with regular brushes, so it’s not on-topic anymore.
Could you post a photo of the figure next to a (familiar) coin for scale?
Lucky you, my Scale Dime was still in its vice.
Seeing how small the figure really is definitely makes the fine details of the painting that much more impressive.
And that’s one battered looking dime.
At this point, the battered dime is traditional.
I’m somewhat annoyed by a few points of slop where I got color on parts that were supposed to stay metallic blue, and from the mess at the headdress where there’s still blue showing through when there’s not supposed to be any.

It’s done. It will either be bought or taken over or some combo. It will no longer be independent.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. has asked several high-powered banks — including JPMorgan Chase & Co., PNC Financial Services Group Inc., US Bancorp and Bank of America Corp. — to submit final bids for First Republic Bank by Sunday after gauging initial interest earlier in the week, sources told Bloomberg.

“Blade Runners” take down cameras around London
A secret activist army is vandalising and stealing Sadiq Khan’s hated Ulez cameras.
Dubbed the ‘Blade Runners’, the covert group has been attacking ANPR cameras that catch out drivers using high-polluting vehicles across the capital.
The London Mayor’s controversial scheme will force Londoners to pay £12.50-a-day to drive in Greater London from August 29, if their cars don’t meet certain environmental standards.
One of the secretive Blade Runners, who met with MailOnline, vowed: ‘We are going to take down every single one no matter what’.
Dressed in a balaclava to protect his identity, the father in his mid-forties revealed he had stolen 34 Ulez cameras himself but his group and others like them have taken down hundreds.
Good.
Love the fear-mongering that starts about half-way down.
Interesting Rogan clip featuring a cardiologist talking statin drugs and when to take them (sometimes but not often) and when not to (almost always not):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YcoBphys8w
After surviving a heart attack and being placed on a statin for five years and being dosage compliant the additional amount of life gained is four days, not sure how exactly he parsed that out but there you go. Probably a good thing to steer clear of unless your cholesterol is sky high with a bad ratio to boot.
I guess it depends on what activities you got lined up for those four extra days.
I suppose a bevy of short on cash porn stars could move into a rental property you own during those extra four days but doubtful.
Never say never!
Changed the oil on my truck today. Last one was done by the shop while they were doing some other work. Tightened the drain plug so tight I started rounding it taking it out. Guess I’ll need to pick up another for the next change.

I just pulled the key lime pie out of the oven. I am about to enjoy a G&T in the pool. A bit later will be shrimp skewers on the grill.

Tonight to bring me back down will be “Das Boot” in German with subtitles.
Best war movie ever made, at least that I’ve seen. Depressing as hell though.
If you want great but depressing war movie, there is a Russian WWII film that is every bit has hard core as Das Boot: Come and See
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHaSQU-4wss
I’ve heard of that one, from the ‘70s right? I need to check it out.
Zwak I took your advice and watched “Come and See” instead. You are correct it is a very powerful movie. Even though it is a USSR film the producer and director didn’t make it a paean to the glories of the USSR. I will be recommending this to others.

Alls we hear is how to you get the female and minority vote. No one even talks about how you win the Firster vote. Who contributes more to society – women or Firsters? Why should a women or a minority have an equal say in society to that of a Firster? I rest my case.
Because women actually birth babies, unlike firsters.
Bigot. I carry The First That Shall Change Everything in my manwomb which is far more significant than any mere human child.
It’s been long enough. You’ve probably got a lithopedion inside.
I had to look that one up. The things I learn here….

Things that your seconding mind cannot even fathom at the moment which will be made a reality.
Yeah, me too…yikes.
Me three.
It’s the dead of night, but I’m stuck here wondering what exactly people define as “culture war.” Because I’m often told we need to stop it, or at least conservatives should completely abandon culture to the left (giving them control over all institutions across the country is working swimmingly and sure leading to success at the ballot box).
I mean, you could classify gun rights as culture war, but I’m pretty sure the people saying give up culture war bullshit would throw a bitch fit if we said who cares about gun rights just let the left have their way there.
I mean, nearly everything is culture war. And it’s just so painfully ridiculous to think that you can cede the culture to the left and that it won’t have a giant, massive impact on whatever isn’t considered culture war. Because it’s going to mean the left has their way with everything.
It’s like the Democrat supporters here who until recently would say “I’d consider a Republican but the current candidates are too extreme”. Except they never were and speakers would never seriously pull the lever for a Republican no matter how liberal.
No-one needs a First. First-fetishists are bitter. They cling to their Firsts. Assault Firsts are designed to maximum damage to the human body and are a tool of First Supremacist bigots to do genocide to our marginalized seconder communities. Make no mistake; WE ARE COMING TO TAKE YOUR FIRSTS AWAY. From your cold dead hands you say? Fine! We have the monopoly on Firsting and will First you into extinction.
*Seconder
I can do as much damage with a low capacity First as any so called assault First.
That’s just as well since all your Firsts are low capacity.
This smacks of “tee hee, silly rupubs can’t even define woke.”
“Gun rights” is not a culture war issue.
Editing old movies to remove the guns is a culture war issue.
Mandating that all children must be taught how evil guns are is a culture war issue.
Mandating that all children must be taught how great gun are is a culture war issue.
Yes, nearly everything can be made into a culture war issue, but not everything is ding am sietch.

Then why is abortion a culture war issue?
It wasn’t that long ago that Hollywood showed alternatives.

Ceding the culture war is a bad idea and facilitates the left’s march through the institutions. The withdrawal from the culture war by nonleftists is in large part to blame for the situation we find ourselves in now.
Good morning!
Good second there Ted S. Brilliant contribution to the world.
Good morning. You hiking much these days, Ted?
Not as much since Dad and I finally moved off the top of the hill (we’re officially done as of Monday when we handed over the keys) and we’re not a literal two-minute walk from the trails. Gotta load the dog up in the car now.
