Idaho looked at the calendar and realized it’s July. We appear to be making up for lost time with the heat, but that’s what that sweet, sweet AC is for.
Let’s Link!
“I’m sorry sir, we only do that to private citizens.”
The check’s in the mail, I’ll pull out etc., etc…
Every firefighters worst nightmare is running out of air and dying in a fire. RIP, gentleman.
Poor things are just misunderstood.
Rolling Stone loves them some child sex trafficking.
Okey doke. That’s enough drivel for a Saturday evening. Snark away!
I mean Sound of Freedom does sound fucking retarded….
Does that make me a lefty groomer?
Saying the movie sounds shitty makes you normal. Saying the subject matter itself and the concept of rescuing sex-trafficked children is only appealing gap-toothed hicks and QAnon lunatics (as most of the commie outlets seem to be doing) makes you a groomer and a pedo apologist.
I did like how the media has been running a human trafficking panic campaign for years and now they call people who believe it Qanon lunatics
Strange, isn’t it. For the last few years, the progs at church have been holding breathless meetings about sex trafficking. As I recall, they started out blaming Trump and his administration for callous disregard of the youth.
Does that make me a lefty groomer?

“
Every firefightersEveryone’s worst nightmare is running out of air and dying in a fire.”Firemen just have a much higher probability of actually doing so.
Nightmare, yes. Worst, no.
Ok the fire first melts your 40K army into an indistinguishable mass of plastic
Look, just because I rate a few other fates as worse doesn’t mean I make light of that one.
Legit lol.
Yeah — I don’t really have nightmares in practice… but I’m pretty sure I can come up with a list much much worse than that.
It ratchets to the top of the list the first time you’re in a fire breathing air from a tank.
SCBA’s (or whatever they’re called these days) take a lot of getting used to. Respect to anybody that can wear one and not feel claustrophobic.
there was nothing on that boat worth dying for: surround it and drownd it and call your insurance agent
https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/08/politics/trump-campaign-promises/index.html
Trump wants to charter 10 new cities on fed land? I’m sure the details would be awful, but this sounds like the first legitimate reason to actually support that shitweasel
How about just selling off sections of federal land again?
How will Trump grift off of that?
“Ukrainian NATO membership would help foster peace”
It absolutely will. He’s just skipping over the part where WWIII is guaranteed to occur and humanity gets nuked back to the Stone Age. After that, the world will be really, really peaceful.
Ok fine. You sold me on the plan.
*waves tiny Ukraine flag*
You think either Putin or Biden would say “Fuck it. Who cares about mutually assured destruction” and press the button first?
Putin doesn’t strike me as having vanilla jello for brains, so…
Unfortunately I could see either one of them doing it.
If the Russian State was in existential danger Putin absolutely would do it although I think he also wants to avoid it at almost all costs. Biden and his cast of idjits might just stumble us into it by accident.
Former Minister of Truth haz a sad
It’s an unprecedented ruling that First Amendment scholars and disinformation researchers largely characterized as alarming and unwarranted.
For NINA JANKOWICZ, it also represented something else: the inevitable next step in a concerted effort to weaken defenses against the conspiracy theories and misinformation campaigns that could run rampant over the next year.
“It is an attempt to quash any counter-disinformation efforts ahead of the 2024 election,” Jankowicz, a well-known expert on disinformation and extremism, told West Wing Playbook. “That seems very clear to me now.”
——-
“There were these crazy accusations being made that had no basis in reality,” Jankowicz said. “But still, the administration crumpled. They ceded that territory.”
The episode emboldened a movement on the right that she argued is using disinformation to undermine trust in government. This current case follows similar contours. Even if it fails, Doughty’s opinion alone will damage anti-disinformation efforts, Jankowicz said.
The ruling validated a novel legal strategy likely to be replicated in the future. More immediately, it’ll have a chilling effect on government and academia, ensuring that officials and researchers think twice before trying to counter those spreading conspiracies and false information, she said.
“It’s going to scare civil servants who are working on these issues from, frankly, doing their jobs,” Jankowicz said. Noting that Doughty specifically named individuals in his order, she added: “It might come with great personal danger, as I’ve seen in my case.”
What complete and utter bullshit. Nor allowing government to actively promote censorship is not the same as putting a gag order on government employees or prohibiting the agencies they work for from putting their message into public spaces.
“expert on disinformation”
What, exactly, are the qualifications for this? Being an unapologetic partisan propagandist?
I believe in the manual it says, and I quote, it takes one to know one.
You know America is lost when anyone takes that shit seriously. She would have been laughed off stage in the 80s or 90s.
Was she even out of college then?
The Mary Poppins of Propaganda!
She needs to go away.
Permanently.
She’s a truly awful person.

/goes and cried tears of loneliness into the corner.
“If we’re going to push back against these forces … it’s going to have to be something that we do really overtly, transparently, and we’re going to have to dig our heels in about it,” Jankowicz said.
This ditch is full of dead people. Why did you bring me here?

At least “she” gave decent advice: “Perhaps he’s just not interested in you… you have done everything but put out a ‘Everyone welcome, hop on board!’ sign, after all.”
I would have phrased it more like “Perhaps he can smell the batshit crazy wafting off of you and knows better than to go near you.”

Idaho looked at the calendar and realized it’s July. We appear to be making up for lost time with the heat, but that’s what that sweet, sweet AC is for.
The planet is burning up! Hottest week ever in the history of the universe!
So stupid. It was warm here in the valley, but not that warm.
Wait, it’s summer. It always gets warm.
From the pro-pedo article:
“To know thousands of adults will absorb… this vigilante fever dream, and come away thinking themselves better informed on a hidden civilizational crisis… well, it’s profoundly depressing. Worse still, they’ll want to spread the word.”
Struggling to understand how this is a bad thing… You are a true ideological zombie if you’re so committed to THE MESSAGE that you can say raising awareness of child sex slavery is a bad thing. These are evil, broken people.
It is worse to agree with your enemy than keep to your own narrative about [topic].
Christians and radical feminists have found themselves allied against the trans movement. They don’t like it, but their interest in stopping kids’ HRT and chopping things off, and keeping men out of women’s spaces trumps that for these two segments.
Not sure why it can’t be that way for sex trafficking.
It is amazing where their hatred of Christianity takes the left these days.
I fancied myself an atheist in my youth but I don’t think I could have gone anywhere near where Rolling Stone and The Guardian are going with this shit.
It’s amazing to me that they forgive another Abrahamic religion that espouses the same views towards pedophilia. And to be honest; homosexuality. Why is Christianity singled out?
I’ve always been live and let live. If you find love in this world…good for you. As long as you are both human…both of the age of consent…and are non-violent to one another. Happy trails.
They forgive the Abrahamic religion that will kill you for looking at it crosswise. Methinks there’s correlation there.
Damn skippy, MoJo.
The official phrase for that movie is “Q Anon adjacent“. It’s repeated everywhere. So do they just copy off each other’s homework, or does the CIA send them all an email?
It’s journolist/group think. Remember in high school with the “cool kids” would all adopt some expression/fashion/quirk at the same time? It doesn’t have to be orchestrated, it just happens due to social proximity and contagion.
Stop trying to make “QAnon Adjacent” happen.
I thought it was the same article posted in different places.
If the headlines are all the same, it’s not news – it’s advertising.
The official phrase for that movie is “Q Anon adjacent“. It’s repeated everywhere. So do they just copy off each other’s homework, or does the CIA send them all an email?
I think it’s more like a group class assignment on google docs.
Seeing that court case in Missour, I would say it was a well placed call by the CIA.

I was just watching Emergency!
Never saw this side of her before. 👍
Oh, I totally forgot about Emergency. I bought this album a looooooong time ago: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lJcjde6QrB38Wr2l3d51_j4r6dTnrKEuU
I thought I found her on one of those compilation CDs* retailers sell, like Hallmark and Victoria’s Secret** and Pottery Barn. Well, it wasn’t that one, but this was a Pottery Barn CD that also introduced me to Morphine. (Martini Lounge) https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCRuDH834izy_sJxeQ7NCtaks86fxGAGP
*I’ve found a lot of good music on retailer CDs.
**The Victoria’s Secret was actually a cassette from 1987 or something, and had Concierto de Aranjuez (Adagio) on it and I totally fell in love with it, which sparked off a bucket list crush on Spain and my dad*** was all, “You want to go to Spain just from some song?” “Yep.” “Pffftt. Whatever.”
***Dad who fancied himself a fine music connoisseur after one standard humanities music appreciation class.
Emergency! is great. It is weird that she partnered with Bobby Troup in both careers.
They were married for 40 years, which would probably explain it.
You have great musical taste Mo. I love Morphine, still bummed I didn’t go see them at Zwak’s family named joint in SF back in the day. Hard to pick a fav from them, but this one is so excellent. RIP Mark Sandman.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CUT9m3fGqM
Aw, bummer.
My favorite Morphine: https://youtu.be/eBVBNvaQEMw
Ohh, don’t know that one, it’ll go on the stereo when the kids shut down their movie.
I think I found Tower of Power https://youtu.be/hulBqRcr2AE on some obscure retailer compilation. Definitely found Acoustic Alchemy on one. https://youtu.be/qKgRrqgAvho I swear, I love those.
If I ever win the lottery, I’m going to buy ALL the Firestone Christmas compilations. https://christmaslpstocd.com/index.php?ecom–prodsearch–type=ALL&app=ecom&ns=prodsearchp&ecom–prodsearch–string=firestone&SUBMIT=Go
I know my family had one of those Firestone Christmas albums when I was a kid, but I can’t remember which one. I’d say it had a white or very light colored cover. Looking at some of the track lists, they’re all such standards I can’t be sure I’m not familiar with the songs from other albums.
Was there one of those Firestone albums with Babs singing Ave Maria? (No, I’m not kidding.)
I don’t know about Babs singing “Ave Maria,” but I don’t really like the song at all. The only one I’ve heard that I kinda sorta like okay is Jewel. https://youtu.be/ijV1e_5ts6E
Now, I have never ever heard a Firestone Christmas album, but I love this, https://youtu.be/j9hR4Gg6b9w and it has to be better than that.
My high school choir once did an apparently oft-performed mashup of “Ave Maria” and “I Believe,” which I thought actually worked quite well.
Sure as hell couldn’t do that in a public school now.
Morphine?Yes.
Also,Don’t change horses in the middle of the stream. Giddy up, Giddy, Hi ho silver.
Another fan of Morphine here. Thanks to Ian Rankin.
I found this amusing

I used to try to keep telemarketers on the line for several minutes until finally making it clear I was just playing with them. Pissed some of them off big time. They would threaten to do vile things to my mom. Unfortunately I think they bumped my number up on the computer list because I used to get dozens of calls per day until I got a new number. Now I never get any telemarketers calling.
I got one of those “Hi, Grandpa, I’m in trouble, send money for bail” calls a month or so ago.
I asked “grandson” to please put on the officer in charge. Guy comes on and re-iterates that it will take $2,000 to make the problem go away. I said, “I’m a bit shook up by this. Let me have my son-in-law call you to try to straighten it all out.” “I’d rather you take care of it, sir,” said the scammer. I then said, “No, he’s better at these things, he’s the special agent in charge of the FBI office in Peoria.” I can’t imagine why the guy quickly hung up.
That’s awesome for people like me who could never do that themselves but wish they could.
is it anything special to run this site in dark mode?
I use either night mode (mobile, mac) or an extension called Night Eye in Brave to enable a dark mode.
Evening, Spud.
Spent a couple hours up a mountain today, so took a break from the retardation.
Terrible about the firefighters, though. Tough fucking job.
Autonomous cars are retarded, so the cone thing is hilarious. The Jetsons isn’t gonna happen, people. AI is gonna skip right past discernment to armageddon.
Talked to several people who saw the flick and they were shocked. Once again, being an outlier completely skews perception. But hey, I’m sure a wide open border will be fine.
What’s everyone doing tonight?
Swam all day with the daughter. Made cookies. Having a vodka martini now.
Shaken, not stirred?
Yeah, I approve. Leave the pets alone.
Finally replaced the resin in my water softener. Much easier than expected, and it works great. Watching Manifest with the Mrs. tonight.
Manfest sounds a little gay
It’s destiny.
Chilling with my afternoon coffee. Wife is napping, so keeping it quiet.
Working.
However, dinner tonight is going to be bacon-dogs with homemade coleslaw. And beer.
That is an excellent reward for working Saturday.
This.
Cheers, Al!
Beer is never an excellent reward. :-p
I’m having gin on the rocks and apple pie a la mode.
I like a good gin on the rocks. It is very nice in both hot weather and cold.
I’ve been disconnected for 3 days, guess the world hasn’t ended.
Cleaning up the yard, spreading bark dust, giving the finger to the state forestry retards, getting groceries, and dinner with the missus.
Hi, Tundra. Thought I would bring this forward from a previous thread since you asked. Sorry if it’s not of interest.
In regards to essential tremors, I tried all the usual meds. Anti-convulsants, beta blockers, combos of all of those. Nothing has really worked.
Focused ultrasound has been approved by the FDA and has shown some promise. It is expensive and not covered by most insurance.
Alcohol is the one thing that affects this neurological disorder across the board. Don’t believe me, look it up. A few shots and I can perform brain surgery. At least my hands can do so. Alcoholism is pretty prevalent among people with essential tremors.
I have avoided that trap so far. I have to admit that if I have to fill out some paperwork for something, I will take a snort or two.
This is still killing me.
Fuck you, Ben & Jerry!

These are the people running Ben & Jerry’s
https://www.benjerry.com/about-us/how-were-structured
If all the land is going to be returned to those claiming to be descendants of the Indigenous People, then who is going to pay the reparations to the blacks? Wouldn’t it be ironic if the only American citizens with any wealth to tax away for reparations are those who had the least to do with slavery.
Sometimes, very rarely, someone gets a chance to use their existing talents to become something greater, to lift the world in a way that transcends their niche and becomes not just great. But heroic. One such someone was the lead singer of a moderately successful pop rock group called the Boomtown Rats.
At the peak of their success, a huge famine struck Ethiopia, starving thousands to death. It was horrific. So rather than do nothing, Bob Geldof used his musical talent and his connections to put together a supergroup and write a song as a fundraiser. The group Band Aid hoped to raise some 70 thousand British pounds with their song Do You Think They Know It’s Christmas? $24 million later, the famine was still raging. Feeling the call to do something great, he conceived Live Aid, a 2 continent live concert to become the largest and most complicated live televised performance in history. Another $300 million or so later, and a hero was anointed.
Rumors were circulating that the Beatles and Led Zeppelin might be getting back together to perform. Alas, Paul McCartney performed without his remaining band mates and Julian Lennon, and Led Zeppelin played but were terrible.
But it is still remembered for Freddie Mercury’s iconic performance, which is probably why those of you who were not around at the time know of it.
But Bob Geldof also had his moment. Amid all of the stress and pressure of running this huge event and raise enough money to make it worthwhile, he gave a performance of I Don’t Like Mondays that absolutely killed.

Thank you. I’ve watched so many clips of that show. Musicians are often douches but they can make shit happen.
Mengistu used the food aid as a weapon against the Eritreans.
This is what I remember.
Always liked that song but remain a bigger fan of Midge Ure.
But other than Thin Lizzie, Ultravox, co-writing the greatest fundraising song ever, organizing several of the largest charity events ever and an extensive solo career, what has he ever done???
Visage
They should have just lived where the food is.
Without clicking, can confirm that is where my brain always goes in this context.
I’m assuming it’s Sam Kinison and I’ll be laughing hysterically.
Apropos of nothing… Paris Hilton’s newish commercial for Hilton is aborbs.
She seems less trashy than she used to, somehow.
Saw a clip of her on a Brit TV interview show, and she admitted that was never her real voice and she was playing a part the whole time. Troll level 9000. Instant respect.
Yeah, it was clear that she was never a stupid as she pretended to be. Neither is Kim Kardashian.
I just don’t understand how that had the revelation “if I make a crappy sex tape and leak it and act like a bimbo I will become a gozillionaire.”. That is quite a leap. I think the success rate on that was zero, pre Paris Hilton.
Thank you. I’ve watched so many clips of that show. Musicians are often douches but they can make shit happen.
Lol. Creative squirrels
The whole thing was a shit-show. The entire famine was a failure of governance as much as it was a consequence of drought.
But that doesn’t diminish what Geldof did. You can see the weight of all of the lives he feels responsible for saving on his face in that clip.
The southern half of Ethiopia actually had a surplus of food during the 1984 famine.
An Ethiopian woman studying in America understood that information and infrastructure was the root of the problems in Ethiopia. Eleni Gabre-Madhin realized that her native country lacked basic markets that the first and second world countries relied on. Commodities markets with futures contracts that allow farmers to get market signals as to what they should be planting.
So she went home to a corrupt country where women are just not allowed to do such things, and created a commodities exchange to compete with the government monopoly. It was a bumpy road, fraut with setbacks and outright failures. And definite threats to life and liberty from the powerful. But her efforts changed things, and there has not been a repeat of the famine, in part because of her work.
The documentary on her ECX is excellent, for an economics class anyway. Eleni Gabre-Madhin, a hero you never heard of.
You can’t diminish what Geldof did. It was never anything to begin with.
He may have believed in what he was doing, but that was on him. Most sapient primates saw through it pretty quickly back then.
I have never heard of her or her story. Thanks for sharing it.
I don’t watch a ton of MLB, but I gotta admit, this was pretty cool to see.
The type of thing you might see in Little League or even high school ball, but in the majors? Well… I’ll be damned.
I have seen that play many times in our local pony league.. never turn your back on the runner on third when the ball is live.
At the Durham Bulls I saw Carl Yastrzemski’s son involved in a 2 error “inside the park home run” on a can of corn pop fly when he tripped over a sprinkler head backing up to make the catch. The runner advanced to second, where the outfielder backing up the play had him dead to rights if he hadn’t thrown the ball into the 3rd base dugout… So the runner took off for third and turned for home as the ball caromed off a pole and towards the outfield. He didn’t see the outfielder running over where the ball came right to him. Two side hops to load up for an easy out throw, he launches a laser beam at a 45 degree angle over the stands and into the parking lot.
“A” ball is awesome.
Got to go to a kind of minor-league Australian football match yesterday. Small town club: if there’s space, you can park your car at the boundary and watch:

Do they have actual telephone poles, or do they just use the lamp posts?
Also, isn’t the field oval?
Yep, oval field
You inspired me to watch the highlights of the Bulldogs and Magpies. After falling behind by 40, the magpies went on an 80-7 run… Then the Bulldogs came back to make a game of it, but lost in the end.
That is one crazy sport.
Go Pies!
The premiership has not been a cakewalk in recent decades.
Yeah, I hate to say it, but they look awfully good this year.
Ah, baseball. Phillies win 23 of 31 games and still fall a couple more games behind the division leading Braves.
Ok, movies….
I watched Keanu Reeves in The Day The Earth Stood Still.
I follows an old trope of “aliens visit and evil government won’t listen to reason as military attacks”, which makes sense since I suppose the original is one of the originators of the trope.
But that wasn’t really my issue.
The film begins with scientists tracking an object moving through the outer solar system. Its speed and trajectory demonstrate that it has extrasolar origins. It is moving at a significant chunk of light speed. And it changes course towards earth, set to impact in Manhattan.
Preparing for a devastating impact, governments are mobilized. But the object stops and hovers over central park.
After which the military does the attack thing as our heroine tries to get them to work for peace.
And here is the thing that completely bumped me out of the film…..
This thing was going fast enough to end life on earth… And it has the power on board to completely stop.
All the firepower on earth could not stop these creatures. Yet not one scientist ever makes that observation out loud. These guys fire sidewinder missiles at a mystery orb that just expended more energy than all of humanity combined in all of history in just a few seconds (and without leaving a giant melted spot on the planet, which is a trick). Sheesh.
I’m with you. I will suspend disbelief but not if I have to park my brain at the door.
I don’t know if this would really be far fetched for our top men at this point. What gets passed off as expert opinion these days is pretty sad. There is no integrity and it’s all about feeding a political narrative.
I guess how the scientists and experts of the world react depends on who is in the White House and in control. They’ll be oppositional if the guy has a R next to his name, and propagandists for the regime if its a D. It really is that simple. So, you have to ask yourself, what would Joe Biden do if that thing was hurling towards Earth and then like 90% of the clowns who call themselves scientists would agree and clap like trained selas.
It’s amazing how quickly the left can connect the dots on corruption when it isn’t their guy in office. Obama? Biden? Nothing more to see. And I’m pretty sure this would be all they would need to debunk such a claim from the right if they even deigned it worth it to report on the matter:
There’s something missing from this paragraph. I’m not quite sure what it is, but some detail…
And what government official has an expectation of privacy on a government provided device?
Well, given that we know that Obama ordered Comey to frame Flynn for crimes he did not commit, and every one of those weasels crowed about it and demanded Flynn’s scalp, I would say we know our answer.
Obama used the IRS to broadly target all conservative political nonprofits…..and nothing else happened.
This was very public and widely known. They didn’t even bother pretending to care, and the criminal coverup was never even investigated. “Oh, dang! All of the emails are gone from the server, there are no backups, and everyone accidentally destroyed their hard drives. Ooopsie!!
Please.
These people are so corrupt.
That smirking little shit has no shame.
Also… The gall of complaining about the texts… After repeatedly leaking lies about Trump to the press. Really impressive.
Just had Totino’s pizza rolls warmed in an air fryer for the first time. Relatively divine.
Relative to…eating them still frozen?
Batchelor style!
Probably microwave.
I did reheated hash browns in the air fryer tonight. Also a revelation. Crispy and delicious instead of soggy and “I ain’t wasting food, but I ain’t happy about it.”
You disgust me.
Not because of the pizza rolls or anything. Just in general.
You are a dick dude,
I hope MikeS is crying into his pizza rolls right now. So distraught he can’t even finish them as they get cold and sad.
I have teens.
Great value brand Pizza rolls also good for less ,,(usually,).
Also, hot pockets are much better in the air fryer than in that little paper-metal sleeve in the microwave.
Also also….buy your favorite carry out pizza when on sale, freeze, and reheat in air fryer. Nice!
We tried the Costco pizza last time. Great value for money, crust is a little bready… But it does well in the air fryer. And cheap cheap cheap if you buy the whole pie. We get pepperoni and add onions and jalapeno slices when reheating. The boy loves it. (Then again. We also do kittle Caesars, pizza hut, poppa johns… Apparently we are not picky)
How big is your airfryer that it fits a Costco pizza?
2 slices at a time.
But yeah, those pies are huge.
Lucas Films trotted out Harrison Ford’s corpse one more time. This time to thank the fans on social media in a pathetic, scripted moment that he probably wasn’t even contractually obligated to do.
This is the studio that’s part of a company that’s spent the last half decade attacking their fans as racists and menaces for daring to offer criticism. Now that it’s all finally fully blown up, now we are thankful to you…the fans.
Did you actually watch Ford’s appearance, or just spend 20 hours watching other people’s videos about the appearance?
It doesn’t help that the analysis is more interesting than the films they’re pumping out and the people doing it are more relatable than the surly actors they’re propping up.
Maybe there’s a new theory being passed along in ad exec’s DMs?

Delivering Amazon packages from a personal vehicle with kids on board? Strikes me as very odd. Not shotgun odd though.
