Mexi is used to this. He loves the heat. He goes jogging mid afternoon. I’m a pasty old white guy. That don’t go around here.
Links?
You know why we’re so awesome compared to Europe? Central AC.
Joe Biden’s Seventh Circle of Hell.
I tend to look at these things from the perspective of his family.
There we go! RFK Jr. always delivers the goods.
It’s HOT!
Serious business journalisming
Sun Valley, Idaho, is an unlikely spot for a catwalk. But that’s exactly what the paths around town became as billionaire and CEO guests strolled and biked between conference sessions at this year’s Allen & Co. event.
The fashion choices of the business elite seemed to evoke the luxury style seen on the hit HBO TV show “Succession,” with a focus on muted tones and casual wear.
Many attendees stayed committed to the color and texture choices long favored by tech and finance titans: Plenty of shades of blue shirts and outer layers were on display, as were vest-centered looks.
Here’s what the Who’s Who of the business world wore at the Sun Valley conference this week. After all, it’s not called “summer camp for billionaires” for nothing:
I don’t remember seeing any high powered business moguls when I lived in Ketchum. I guess they hadn’t heard about the deck at Grumpy’s. It’s probably just as well.
Business Insider knows where its strengths lie.
Aren’t they the geniuses who recently reported Florida lost more people than NY and CA gained over last two years and a few days later they got it exactly backward?
Joe Biden’s Seventh Circle of Hell.
That paywall is the Eighth Circle of Hell.
Dammit. People with kids are moving out of the cities. There you go.
Get out!
Are the walls bleeding?
Thanks Spud. I was wondering what it was.
People with kids are moving out of the cities. There you go.
A couple of articles today about how “converting high rise office buildings to residences isn’t as easy as it sounds”. Assuming you could do that, who do they think is going to live in them? Families with kids? Not likely.
In NYC, it’s exactly what you would think. Singles, DINKs, and absentee Chinese. And it helps to be a millionaire cuz they ain’t converting anything cheap.
They aren’t going to convert any office towers. It’s cost prohibitive.
Sure they will. They’ve been doing it for decades. But yes, it is expensive and that’s why you have to be a millionaire to get one.
I’m not talking about stuff from the 50s-70s. I’m talking about glass and steel skyscrapers. The internal construction of office towers is different from residential towers. The layouts are all wrong, there are insufficient water lines, the ventilation is all wrong for residential living, and even the interior light is different.
Hey from Martinez, CA
I’m working outside and I think it’s 100 deg or damn close.
Having to wear flame retardant clothing isn’t helping- the shit doesn’t breathe.
At the Chevron refinery? Head on over to Port Costa for a beer at The Warehouse when you’re done.
That’s Richmond. Martinez is a bit more civilized.
Nah, Port Costa is that weird back bay town you have to go though Crocket to get to. The Warehouse is cool though, good food.
Or up to Santa Cruz to cool off.
I lived in Pleasant Hill for 20+ years.
I grew up in Lafayette and thought Martinez was a rough neighborhood. They beat us badly in church basketball.
I spent my career in Contra Costa County. I worked ambulance in Richmond, and worked for San Ramon Valley FPD the last 20+ years.
Co Co County! I would get stuck working on there sometimes for the phone company. You ended up knowing all the B-boxes used as drug stashes pretty quick in Richmond.
I lived in Point Richmond for a couple months, which I really liked. Hotel Mac was a great restaurant.
Jealous.
I will have it in a couple months, though. First time in my life.
I was going to claim “it’s a dry heat” in Europe until I looked at Rome. That is NYC-style weather right there.
Latitude checks out.
I always thought Europe in general was low humidity because of something to do with ocean currents. I’d dig deeper but this vodka highball isn’t gonna drink itself.
Spud’s headline is exactly right. AC is a wonderful invention I wholeheartedly embrace.
In cities, those venturing out at all drenched themselves in fountains while others sought out pools, the sea or shade in hopes of relief from the heat wave caused by Cerberus. The high-pressure anticyclone coming from the south was named after the three-headed dog in ancient Greek mythology who guarded the gates to the underworld.
Why must every weather phenomenon have a name nowadays? It’s like the ordinary winds in the Med aren’t enough.
No idea… it’s illusive, man.
Quit your bitching MSM. Of course it is hot since it is northern hemisphere summer. Here at the shit shack by the sea six minutes ago was “Lahaina Noon” and of course I was out observing it. What is LN? It is one of the two days of the year when the Sun is directly overhead. A quick check of an astronomical table confirmed the Sun’s altitude was 90 degrees. The only shadows cast by any object is straight down which unfortunately demonstrated that I am not undernourished. My granddaughter, with the truthfulness of a 7yo, pointed that observation out for me.
Luckily we still have some Trades blowing, but the house is hot. We will be taking her to the botanical gardens in a bit so she can run some energy off in the shade. Pool time is later.
The Climate Emergency! isn’t going to promote itself.
Emergency?! No, it’s way past that. It’s now a CLIMATE CRISIS!!11
I wish the idiots who believed it would settle on phrase.
Has he always been that nuts?
(Watch this turn out to be absolutely true….)
I was spared, must be a Jew.
I liked the blood type theory. I am type O Negative which is supposed to be immune. 🤪
He seemed to be just making an observation on COVID fatality rates by ethnicity. The simple fact that he mentioned “Jew” immediately created an opening for the ADL to claim he was spreading conspiracy theories.
Note they’re not upset that he said the same thing about Chinese.
I didn’t bother to watch the video but I looked at the paper that RFK Jr. discussed. In addition to Jews and Chinese, Finns were also less affected by the virus. As a quarter Finn myself (genetically) , I saw no reason to take offense.
RFJ Jr. is hardly the first person to speculate that this thing was designed to bypass certain groups, especially Asians/Chinese. But daring to mention that Jews seemed less effected…
Yes he has.
Greetings from El Centro, CA. Temperature is 113, dew point is 62, heat index is 116. I’m going to go get me some Mexican food and sweat like a stuffed pig.
Superb Mexican in El Centro.
85 here with 77 expected as the low.
The bigger news is Hurricane Calvin is on a rhumb line to hit us next week. It will probably be back down to a tropical storm by then so rain and some wind.
The surf on the east shores is already beginning to build. It should be very big in a few days. The surfers will be happy.
It got down to 99 degrees this past 30 minutes. Dew point is 57. I spent most of the day in a lake.
Well, hell — and here I was going to go all Yorkshireman with our 107 up in the Central Valley. You win a box in the middle of the road, sir!
I’m in Indian Wells this weekend. It hit 116 today.
Meanwhile Climate Change has sucked all of the July heat from here to somewhere else. We had July in May and June with temps in the mid to high 80’s, now we’re stuck in the low 70’s for a high, with a few days in the 60’s. The AC doesn’t even run now but I was grateful last month.
It’s like someone flipped a switch July 1st. June was lovely.
We’ve been seeing a little haze from Canada, today the breeze is from the south and it’s blown the smoke away.
Same here. Our June was cooler than usual. On July 1st I had to turn on some AC for the first time and it has been on in either my living room or bedroom ever since except for one day this week was nice-ish.
It was basically opposite of that here. May and June were hot as hell, and anecdotally it seems like one of the coolest Julys on record, so far. Today was a high of 72. Tomorrow is forecast to be 68. Other than one or two days in mid-80s, it’s been like that for a couple weeks now.
60 degrees and foggy at the coast and 102 at my house. If we drive home fast enough the heat gradient might crack the windshield.
I think you owe it to science to try. (Plus you can tuck into a nice cool beverage that much sooner.)
Windshield didn’t crack, but the power is out so no AC. Luckily the house is cool so far.
Heads up to any of TPTB who care to deal with it: I’ve just submitted a post as Ready for Review. I think I remembered all the little nitpicky details it needs, but please let me know if I’ve forgotten anything. Thanks!
Ooh! Looking forward to this!
A mere 80 degrees with 68 degree dew point. Pretty mild for July in Iowa.
75 dew point here. Blugh.
And now I have to go cook something in the no-AC kitchen.
The dew point hit 78 yesterday. It was quite a relief to see it drop below 70 today.
We moved to Michigan last fall. It was a mild winter. The spring was was sweltering, but it has cooled back down. Canucks are burning down the forest again, and we are getting smoke. Much higher humidity than in Denver, who woulda guessed.
I blame Trudeau.
Nothing succeeds like failure.
https://nypost.com/2023/07/15/nyc-bias-suit-black-hispanic-teachers-and-ex-teachers-rich/
I failed a few tests in my brief college career. Where’s my check?
I want to see the “culturally biased” test.
This is fucking outrageous.
You should stop paying taxes.
As of 9/1, I will not be paying NYC taxes – that is over 3,000 a year. Either work will let me go remote or I will resign, but either way I am not feeding that fucking maw any more.
⬅
I would not be at all surprised if you go remote and NYC still has their grubby paw out for at least a year because you used to pay them.
Good for you Rhywun.
That sounds so weird. How was it biased? Now that the case is over I hope to see examples.
They’ve been pulling this shit for decades. Not-firemen won millions in a different case.
The taxpayers are a fucking cash machine begging to be emptied out.
Their wish is granted.
And no cost to the city or state. Start stringing up the lawyers and sign off authorities when they lose like this.
From the link:
“ More than 90 percent of white test-takers passed the 80-question multiple-choice quiz — one version of which asked teachers to explain the meaning of a painting by pop artist Andy Warhol.”
I have no words.
I hope to see questions about hockey and Bon Jovi.
Now that would be racist.
Eli and Hannah are hosting a pot luck for 20 people how many Tater tots will they need?
“Dumbasses will buy this!”
Pretty much anyone who went to college can tell you that the Ed majors aren’t known for their intellectual horsepower, and I assume the state certification test reflects that.
So how much of a double-barreled imbecile do you have to be to flunk the thing, nevermind flunking it multiple times?
You answered your own query. Really really bad.
And then remember some of the duller knives from school who did pass it.
Relevant
My ex-SIL is a teacher. She is as dumb as a post. It’s a crime she teaches children. I can’t imagine what the people who failed the test are like.
It’s like someone flipped a switch July 1st.
No kidding. It’s definitely summer, now.

I don’t know if you people can handle me two nights in a row.
*yawn*
Are you singing AC/DC karaoke?
If I ever get my hands on a time machine, this is my first stop.
I seen them about 45 days before this show at Alpine Valley.
I got a giant glob of Angus Young sweat on me during his guitar solo. I was on the aisle about 20 rows back, and I think during Whole Lot of Rosie he got on a bouncer’s shoulders and came down past us. He was like in a trance thrashing his head around, and the glob hit my arm. I hurriedly licked the sweat to get as much power from him as possible.
I want to have sex with you.
GAY
You wish
I think Bro is bi-curious.
I like AC/DC as much as any red blooded American boy but those extended breakdowns or whatever you call them are completely unnecessary, akin to the 15 minute grooves that jam bands are so fond of. Play a fucking song for god’s sake.
Sounds about right.
I’m surprised you wouldn’t travel back to the Bon Scott days. That’s not a poke at Brian Johnson or Chris Slade. I just thought you were a fool for the classic lineup.
Shit yes, I’d love to see a Bon show. But, in my musically aware lifetime it’s always been Brian. And that Donnington show was fucking balls out kick ass. Angus at his absolute best.
Also; fuck any idiot who says AC/DC after Bon is not good. I mean, seriously…anyone who says that either has no fucking clue about music, or is a stupid fucking retard. There…I said it.
Did not mean to imply you were one of the stupid fucking retards. I know you get it.
Not a problem, I knew what you meant. AC/DC is one of very few bands to have lost a critical member and replaced him. The Bon Scott era was great. The Brian Johnson era has been great (I’m hoping it isn’t over). Let There Be Rock!
I also saw them on that tour, at the Cow Palace in Daly City. It was my second time seeing them, I saw them for my first ever rock concert on the Blow Up Your Video tour in 1988. Great fucking show, I didn’t get Angus sweat on me, but I was right there on the floor. Caught a couple Angus dollars during MoneyTalks. I think I may still have one somewhere. If I could time travel to an AC/DC show it would be the Belfast gig on the first leg of the Highway to Hell tour.
That’s really cool. I have personal connection to Daly City. That show would be on my time machine list, for sure.
Rock on 🤘. I’m in Daly City all the time, just passed through today. Along with the West of SF it was foggy as hell, while the rest of the state is in a heat wave.
I’m still kinda pissed I didn’t go to their last SF show in 2015 at 24 Willie Mays. Don’t know if they will ever make it round again.
Did this get posted yet? AI imagines each state’s residents through the eyes of Europeans:

OH is close, but should really be tOSU football, not the Reds (REDE???)
NJ looks spot on.
Haha. That was one of my favorites.
Oklahomans should be pleased. They got off easy.
I assume Oklahoma benefited from the R&H musical. That show is damned popular in Europe.
AI Cobain cover videos on YouTube suck. You’ve been warned.
New York is just plain wrong.

Not anymore.
Wait… that was the west coast. I think I’ve flooded california.
Hopefully just on the west side of the San Andreas… We need to get Otisville going.
I don’t get Arizona. Indiana is scary AF
Missouri is scary. Dude is about to be eaten by a sentient Akira/BBQ creature.
Yeah. That pile of meat is disturbing.
I wonder how many body-horror images the author of this article had to reject before settling on the image for each state.
Idaho is exactly as I picture Spudaliscous.
But who’s the fat man he’s sitting with?
That’s his handler.
Mwa ha!
Haha ha!
I laffed at that one. It’s a bouncing baby boy!
Georgia looks ready to kick your ass.
Indiana on the other hand looks like “The future is there for those who show up”. Wonder where the red head on the left came from though…
You know… I’ll give them Maine… though he should have a rifle.
Who the hell did Montana bribe? They got a blooming Sergio Leone glamor shot…
The hell is Oklahoma? I’ve lived there… I don’t remember any rumors of train robberies and loose women meeting up with gunfighting gamblers… my middle school years would have been quite different!
Oregon looks like she’s about to leave his man bun ass… as she should.
Rhode Island bribed someone too apparently… one of the most forgettable states in the Union… and it gets a GQ ad?
Heh… Utah will be fighting it out with Indiana! That dude looks like he’s prepping for it…
And Wyoming evidently helped Montana with the Malboro Man style bribes. Nice.
It’s true. All us Virginians look like that.
LOL @ Wisconsin.
Because many of us have been trained most of our lives to notice these things, what I’m getting is that Europeans are unaware of the existence of non-white people.
LOL I JUST said that on the Zooms!
You notice how they didn’t have the balls to feature a single minority in any of those pictures?
Not hot.
Just watched men’s roller derby in Indy. It was in a rink I’ve played in, but they thaw it in the summer. No AC. So hot.
“Randal Cremer is one of several planned primary school closures and mergers in inner London triggered by low birth rates, families moving away because of expensive childcare, Brexit, and parents re-evaluating their lives during the pandemic.”
So, families find living in a dense urban area sucks and prefer the burbs? Shocking, I tell you, SHOCKING. Oh wait, hasn’t that been the standard operating procedure for 50 years? And what the fuck does Brexit have to do with anything?
I’m reminded of every breathless article enlightening me with the “news” that people are moving away from the North and the East to the South and the West.

My wife wants me to ask you all a very important question.
In the movie Dog, starring Channing Tatum, does the dog die?
Apparently, she trusts you more than movie review sites on the Internet.
This site lets MikeS and his faux Firsting. I wouldn’t trust these people.
@Bro: You’re an idiot.
@Tarran: Sorry, never seen it.
Not sure about that movie, but I can say *SPOILER ALLERT* that Old Yeller does die,
No, the dog does not die.
It’s an enjoyable movie.
Seconded. Excellent flick.
Taylor Lorenz had the nerve to go to LibsOfTikTok asking for quotes for a story asking about her monetization on Twitter. LibsOfTikTok naturally told her to fuck off and none of her business.
Lorenz of course was hoping to slant her story on how Twitter’s monetization has been biased to the “far-right.” Beyond the fact that a number of non-political (Mr. Beast, for instance, who received $25k) and non-right wing Twatter users are benefiting, the story was littered with factual errors such as her claim that these far right personalities were tweeting about their payments before the program was even announced (Elon announced it back in February).
Musk is also accused in the story of just handing out money to his “friends.” You know, because he’s chilling with Mr. Beast on the weekends. It quotes former Twitter executives anonymously claiming there’s no way he could have some objective formula for determining the amount paid!
The entire article is a typical Lorenz smear that is attempting to boost Threads. The left just cannot deal with the fact that there is a platform even somewhat allowing of free speech on it. It quotes various no-name content creators talking about how Twitter’s monetization doesn’t matter because it goes against their “values.” What those values are, they won’t say. It apparently never offended their values to allow for Muslim extremists and pedos to use the platform, but someone who dead names a tranny? That’s a bridge too far.
I’m to the point where I think I’m going to have to join the fight and get a Twatter. I consider it an anti-Firster platform, but I have to do what I have to do.
Even by WP’s declining standards, she is a terrible reporter. It’s a real mystery why trust in the media has cratered.
Even more amazing is some people still genuinely believe whatever the MSM puts out.
Too true.
I don’t use Twitter much anymore because my audience is gone because I stopped hanging around Romancelandia, but I do love it.
I barely used it pre-Musk. Post-Musk it is a different beast. You really have to use your judgment but there is a real opportunity to get good reporting.
I treat it as entertainment, I follow the same people pre/post Musk and honestly can’t see any difference. you could always cater it to your tastes.
You might be pleasantly surprised by Twitter.
It’s where i get my daily white pills from Joran Norberg, Konstantin Kisin, Marion Tupy, Humanprogress.org, etc.
Also Twitter might not have all the details of a news event, but at least it makes you aware of it so then you can check a variety of news sources and form your own opinion.
