Saturday evening hazy links

Sadly, it’s not this smoke(there is no truth to the rumor that this photo is from a recent Glibs get together).

Yeah, August wildfire smoke is here, but we aren’t under an inversion layer and it’s supposed to rain for the next three days. I’ll take it.

Shall we link?

    Good song

    • Spudalicious

For bonus points, what was the original band name?

      • Sensei

        Soft White Underbelly

    • Aloysious

      Agreed.

Had to g00gle some BOC history to learn the original band name. Very cool.

Rick Beato has a video or two on BOC. Made me appreciate their music that much more.

Wildfires aren’t just for Hawaii. The house of one of my worker bees burned down in one last night. Luckily our emergency services got the evacuation orders out in time for most people but unfortunately it sounds like there is at least on death. Currently there are fires west and north of Spokane.

    • The Bearded Hobbit

I was thinking of your guys when I heard about the fires near Spokane. Stay safe.

Ever hear from Sodium? She stopped posting around the time of our meetup.

      • Plinker762

I know she lurked for a while and we had one more Spokane area meetup after. Haven’t heard anything in a while.

We had high winds on Friday which kicked things up. Chance of rain on Monday and Tuesday. 185 structures lost near Medical Lake so far.

“They were told it was not a matter of “if” but “when” official Covid numbers will go back up and they expect by mid-October a return to forced-masking policies that the Biden administration previously only reluctantly ended after massive pressure.”

    They can fuck right off.

    • rhywun

      My immediate thought was “fortification”.

      I don’t remember any ramp-up last year.

I can’t imagine lockdowns will work in their favor this time.

      • Don escaped Texas

        please relax

        masking TSA employees in mid-September
        won’t happen

next week they will receive new guidelines
        won’t happen

        martial law

        won’t happen

        Covid lockdowns were…run by….the Pentagon
        no reason to believe it

        Deep State is getting desperate
right: the great machine that even uberlibertarian DJT45 couldn’t overcome suddenly worried while Biden is in office?

I suppose if I wrote a rant with 20 crazy ideas and one of them came true then I could jump up and down pointing and screaming toldjaso

      • Sean

There are still new “booster shots” being developed and vaccine mandates. It ain’t over yet.

The Biden admin trying to reramp up covid hysteria so they can ram through mass mail in ballots for the 2024 election?

Didn’t need to read Infowars to surmise that the Ds would try to “win” elections this way – again – civil liberties and the economy be damned. 🙄

    • rhywun

      Who’s going to stop them?

  5. LCDR_Fish

Back in “sunny” San Diego just in time for the rain. Chilling at Coronado Brewing Co. (Gonna have to pick up a few crowlers for the road just in case).

Yeah…no way they’ll be able to enforce any masking for covid going forward.

    • pistoffnick

      San Diego

Please go to Not Not Tacos and report is it is as good as I’ve heard.

      • LCDR_Fish

I don’t have a rental this time and North Island/Coronado is further away…but if the weather clears up Mon I may try and take the ferry across to downtown.

  6. Fourscore

Since I don’t vote I won’t have to wear a mask, right? Right?

    • Plinker762

Your vote has already been cast.

    • The Bearded Hobbit

I swore off voting around 2018 but after the 2020 election I realized that if I left my ballot empty someone would fill it for me. So I went ahead and cast my ballot in 2022 and once again, to no surprise, I “scored” a 0.0.

Damned if I do, damned if I don’t.

      • rhywun

if I left my ballot empty someone would fill it for me

Good point I hadn’t thought of.

      • Rat on a train

        I unregistered to avoid that.

      • UnCivilServant

You’re still on the rolls at least three times.

      • The Bearded Hobbit

        I unregistered

I’m not sure that is an option in NM. I think you have to miss a large number of elections before your name is pulled.

I think that my granddad has been casting votes for Democrats ever since he died in 1972.

      • The Bearded Hobbit

        I stand corrected.

      • Fourscore

        I haven’t registered since Reagan’s first term. I hold a grudge a long time

      • Fourscore

About 50 3lb (1 quart) jars. If that’s one hive that’s excellent. We give the wax to a lady that was going to make beauty products, I’ll ask her at HH as to how she did. We have given to a lady that makes soap, to another that made candles.

When Alex Freaking Jones seems reasonable and thoughtful… the world is a strange place.

  8. Ownbestenemy

Regarding the covid stuff, there would have to be another emergency EO in place as all those rules were based on that…

Not that it won’t happen, but that is what it will take.

    • R C Dean

      Legally? Sure.

But haven’t we moved past that?

      • Ownbestenemy

I know my agency went by the EO…but of course that was put in place by Trump. So yeah I guess anything could happen

    • Grumbletarian

These days Presidents can declare national emergencies if they lose their car keys.

      • Ownbestenemy

HQs in DC may follow suit but the field was in full rebellion. During height of masking I think we had a decade dozen? But they were dedicated to themselves not the rule. No one switched, no one wore.

Of course TSA and pilots are a different story.

      • Ownbestenemy

Er..no one switched on those that didn’t wear…I blame Elon

  9. Ted S.

If RJ is around, I just noticed that The Apple is available on TubiTV.

    OMG is it hilariously bad.

  10. Lackadaisical

    Nice musical choice.

  11. UnCivilServant

    Grrr.

Someone just backed into a sign in front of my house and knocked it down. I don’t want some city busybody to blame me for it and present a bill. But there’s no info on how to report damage to city property on their darn website.

Advice as to which department to try to talk to? I just don’t want to be billed for some asshole’s bad driving.

    • Rat on a train

Here it would be the Public Works Department.

      • UnCivilServant

That was my first guess. I just have no direct contact information foranything other than “Request a trash pickup” which they can bill you for.

    • rhywun

      “streets” or “transportation”?

      • UnCivilServant

Neither shows up as a department of the city.

    • Sean

      File a police vandalism report?

      • UnCivilServant

        I don’t talk to cops.

      • Not Adahn

Do it in writing, leave it in a donut box.

      • Sean

I don’t suppose I would either if I lived behind enemy lines.

      • MikeS

        Location, location, location!

      • UnCivilServant

Less bruskly, I am loathe to get them involved in these sorts of things. I would have to tell them that I saw the car and that it has identifiable features. I just want to make the problem go away.

    • Gustave Lytton

Call public works/roads dept phone number on Monday. Or the non emergency police dispatch line. Either one will take the report or refer you to the correct/specific dept. shit like that happens all the time, I wouldn’t give it a second thought about being pilled. Unless you live in Maoist China.

      • Gustave Lytton

If you can’t find the number for either of those, call the main number for city hall or the mayors office.

      • rhywun

I can’t even imagine why they’re faking storm drains. Just typical commie shit?

        Pretty much.

Whaddup? In too-local news, the better the weather, the worse folks in the Miami Valley drive.

On second thought, that’s not news.

      • Tres Cool

I want to counter that argument with observing our fellow citizens in snow…..but we do seem to at least slow down for that.

      • rhywun

I miss snow. Because the planet is cooking we haven’t had a proper snowfall here in NYC in… a couple years.

I can’t wait to see some real snow when I move north this year.

  16. hayeksplosives

Whahappen and I are in the zooms…

Just got back from a benefit for my wife’s cousin. It raised about $3100 for him. It was a fun day. This was one item we donated and it brought in $260. 🤑

    • MikeS

      Better pic

      • UnCivilServant

What did you use to do the cutting?

      • MikeS

Plasma. I have this table with a Hypertherm plasma torch.

      • UnCivilServant

Well, that six grand got you some clean cuts.

      • MikeS

Neither were that much when I bought them, but yeah, with the PC for the control and other miscellaneous items and consumables, I have close to 6k into it.

Am I supposed to feel bad about that? Not 100% sure where you were going with that comment.

      • UnCivilServant

Why would I be trying to make you feel bad?

I just spotted the price tag. I have no idea if that is cheap or expensive for plasma cutters.

      • MikeS

Sorry. I’m drinking Irish whisky so…

The table is basically a well-equipped entry level table. Hypertherm is the top of the line plasma brand; this cutter is their entry level unit.

      • rhywun

Sorry, just what you see here pal.

    • rhywun

      Chain hooks? Love it!

      • MikeS

Thanks! I’m proud of that touch. And it forced me to learn to use my new import TIG welder. It was fun.

      • Zwak , “There is infinite amount of hope in the universe… just not for us.”

Two thumbs up! I suck at welding.

      • MikeS

Oh, I still suck at welding, too! Haha. But, I suck a little tiny bit less.

It’s a steeper learning curve, but so far I really like TIG. All the other welding types I know of seem sort of “violent”, if that makes sense…noise and sparks flying around. TIG is very quiet and very little sparks. Once I got into a groove welding those chain links, it was really fun and almost sort of relaxing.

      • rhywun

        Oh you made that?? Nice!

      • MikeS

        I did. Thanks.

  18. PutridMeat

Indeed, that’s a beautiful piece. Do you have to get permission/license from Harley if you were to sell stuff like that?

Can I commission a Rush sign?

        Can I haz photospread?

      • Brochettaward

I had a NCO in the Army who was Cambodian. His grandfather was a monk when Pol Pot took over. He said he converted with a quickness before fleeing the country.

  19. Brochettaward

I’m listening to a 9 hour interview with Your Movie Sucks – the guy who criticized The Drinker. It’s frustrating because while they slowly break down how stupid his criticisms are, they refuse to just call a spade a spade. The guy’s big issues with The Drinker are:
    1. The politics. It’s the fucking politics. The guy is a little proggie dweeb who looks down on anyone who comes off as remotely right leaning.
    2. Jealousy. The Drinker is actually influential and has developed real contacts in Hollywood.

It’s all background noise while I work out some kinks in my Firsting motions. I get why the interviewer doesn’t dive into the politics, but it’s frustrating. Let’s all just take the masks off. The ones who aren’t explicitly anti-woke at this point are left wing. That’s all that’s left. They won’t acknowledge it because it would show how cancerous their political beliefs are to everything they touch.

I wasn’t sure which music to link today, so I went with these old favorites:
    Ultravox,
    The world’s first synth-pop song

My anthem some (most) days.. Live. One of the two most beautiful drummers in rock (the other being Bill Bruford, who has aged much better than Mr. Cann)

Good morning, Shirley, Ted’S., and NA!

It’s choral music morning here at Tranq Base, but I’ll pause Vox Choral on SXM’s Symphony Hall to give your selections a listen, Shirley. In return, I’ll share with you what VC is starting with this morning – a lovely piece by my favorite choral music conductor/composer, John Rutter. This performance is conducted by the composer himself in the Basilica di Santa Croce in Florence: For your friend. (If you can’t spare the time for the entire piece, please at least listen through the Requiem aeternam.)

      • Shirley Knott

Alas, choral music leaves me cold. One of the very few genres/styles I’m deaf to 🙁

  21. Not Adahn

    Y’all sleeping in apparently.

    • John Nerfherder

I was up 3 hours ago. Sitting down to start work now.

So I’m shitposting on glibs instead.

    • Sean

Well, it wasn’t really sleeping this morning…

      • Ted S.

        Jerking off?
