Traitors.
Shut it down!
They really are feckless cuntes.
Pussies who the Dems have bent over a barrel. If they’re going to fold like this every damn time they have ZERO leverage in budget negotiations.
Being that it’s a bill that most Democrats won’t want to sign, I’m okay with it. Politics.
This. I know most around here, including myself, would love to see the gov’t slashed to pieces, and feel, as do I, that this would be a good start. But the reality is that taking the Senate is much, much more important, taking the presidency is much more important, and a shut down would. not. help. do. that.
If you can’t take or keep power by cutting the government back. . . .
To me, this just means it’s actually not all that important who has the Senate or the Presidency. So the Repubs win next go round – they won’t cut government, they can’t control the agencies, so what really is the point?
^ This.
Republicans are nothing other actors playing the role of controlled opposition. It makes no sense that they would push back against the Dems. The Repubs want to expand government spending and power just as much as the Dems do.
They should countersue for damages from climate policies – and win.
So I guess we are to assume that California finally has definitive proof demonstrating man-caused global warming, and it’s not a result of natural cycles? I would hope they would share because so far this has not even come close to being proven.
They’re counting on the judge and jury having the same religious beliefs as the plaintiffs and accepting the claim as an article of faith.

All you have to do to any liberal that gives you this idiot line of lack of evidence is ask how they would treat this shit if it were Trump. You know the answer would be that Trump would be on the electric chair by now.
As soon as you mention TRUMP!1!!! you lose, as they just consider him evil, and anything else is unevil.
One of the more aggravating things about Hunter Biden, his laptop, and the related scandal is that preposterous letter touted and signed by the heads of the so-called intelligence agencies. All those guys had access to more than enough information to know that the laptop story was NOT a Russian disinformation operation. Furthermore, even if they knew for fact that it was, saying so publicly would have been a stupid move because it would alert the Russians to which of their computer networks had been compromised.
Maybe someday journalists will stop mindlessly repeating whatever career government bureaucrats tell them.
Maybe someday journalists will stop mindlessly repeating whatever career government bureaucrats tell them.
HAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Oh man, stop, you’re killing me!
If it helps, they don’t repeat what I tell them.
Doubtful. Even pieces critical of the IC immediately pivot to “but we can’t think about shutting any of this down!”.
“They’ve done a terrible job, they’re wrong all the time, they’ve warped our own government… but, but, but… the CHINESE and RUSSIANS WILL WIN!”
Barf.
In my opinion, it’s even worse than that. In the fall of 2021, every gas station in Iran was shut down by a cyber-attack for a whole day. Some group named Indra (that no one had ever heard of prior to the incident) claimed responsibility, yet they strangely did not demand a ransom or make a political statement. Only a handful of groups have the manpower and know-how to pull off an operation like that and I don’t think I need to tell which country is the most likely culprit.
Then, less than 2 years later, the US returns 5 Iranian prisoners and unfreezes $6 billion of their assets. Oh, and in the meantime, Iran was selling drones to Russia and gathering valuable combat info, which they will surely share with proxies like Hezbollah. So who was the stupid side in that confrontation?
https://www.npr.org/2021/10/27/1049566231/irans-president-says-cyberattack-was-meant-to-create-disorder-at-gas-pumps
I’d like to disband most of the IC and bring it back under its old name (the Military Information Division), but even that had its missteps.

At the outset of the Spanish-American War, Colonel Arthur L. Wagner was head of the Military Information Division (the War Department’s embryonic intelligence organization). Driven by public sentiment, President McKinley and Secretary of War Russell A. Alger were determined to attack Spanish forces in Cuba not later than summer 1898. Wagner at once prepared a careful assessment of the Spanish forces, terrain, climate and environmental conditions in Cuba—the basic intelligence needed for operational planning. Wagner’s assessment also identified recurring outbreaks of yellow fever in Cuba during the summer months as a crucial planning consideration. At a White House meeting, Wagner recommended postponement of any invasion until the winter months in order to reduce what would otherwise be heavy American losses from the disease. President McKinley reluctantly endorsed his view. As they left the meeting, Secretary of War Alger was furious with Colonel Wagner. “You have made it impossible for my plan of campaign to be carried out,” he told Wagner. “I will see to it that you do not receive any promotions in the Army in the future.”
The Secretary of War made good on his promise, for although Colonel Wagner was promoted years later to brigadier general, the notice of his appointment reached him on his death bed. Furthermore, Alger influenced McKinley to reauthorize a summer invasion of Cuba. Fortunately United States forces won a quick victory, but as Wagner predicted, the effects of disease soon devastated the force. The ravages of yellow fever, typhoid, malaria and dysentery accounted for more than 85 percent of total casualties and were so severe that by August 1898 less than one quarter of the invasion force remained fit for service. According to his peers, Wagner deliberately jeopardized his career in order to satisfy a sense of duty, rather than bow to political pressure. Information that American lives could be saved by avoiding the worst time of the year for yellow fever was more important to him than currying favor with the Secretary of War.

Eh, the ruling elite of many countries stay put during economic crises. I’d expect most of them to convert their wealth to another currency rather than flee the country. Mao, Mugabe, the Kims, the Castros, and others all did that.

So what are the charges for protesting by blocking a federal highway?
First you have to determine whether the protesters are protected.
The two black attorneys that firebombed a police cruiser and passed out other Molotov bombs were only disbarred and given probation if I recall correctly. of course they were BLM, and for some odd reason Antifa and BLM criminals seem to get off real easy while enemies of the machine get inane sentences for for bullshit charges.

IFF is off, The thing is stealth. Hard to find.
My question is why the pilot ejected from an aircraft that managed to keep flying for 2 more hours after he did. That’s the problem.
I’m thinking software problem. He just needed to reboot it and hit “eject driver” instead.
I am wondering if something hacked the system… Maybe one of those components that were made in China….
+1 Supermicro
***
“China’s exploitation of products made by Supermicro, as the US company is known, has been under federal scrutiny for much of the past decade, according to 14 former law enforcement and intelligence officials familiar with the matter,” states Bloomberg in its report, said to rely on interviews with more than 50 sources, mostly unnamed, in government and the private sector.
The article – a follow-on to BusinessWeek’s 2018 spy chip bombshell – cites three specific incidents: the 2010 discovery by the Defense Department that thousands of its computers were sending military network data to China due to code hidden in chips that handle the server startup process; Intel’s discovery in 2014 that a Chinese hacking group penetrated its network via a server that fetched malware from an unidentified supplier’s update site; and a 2015 warning issued by the FBI to multiple companies that Chinese agents had hidden an extra chip with backdoored code on one manufacturer’s servers.

The enemy is always smarter than you think.
And our intelligence agencies and federal bureaucracies are corrupt and incompetent.
Why was IFF off while flying near Charleston? This whole thing sounds like a cluster fuck.
While I am contemplating some hacking incidence or simply software related malfunction could be behind this issue, I would absolutely not be surprised to find out the pilot quality and training have suffered severely in the day and age of woke military recruiting and training demands. Remember we had an Osprey and an F/A-18 all go down in the span of a week. Sure, they will blame maintenance, but I am inclined to think it is the wokeification of the military.
It less woke and more of a general dumbing down of the school system. The military is pondering allowing calculators on the ASVAB. If you need to use a calculator to do the math questions on the ASVAB, you clearly weren’t paying attention in school.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/military-considers-allowing-calculators-entrance-exam-amid-continued-recruiting-struggles-report
Do we really want people who can’t do long division to be handling weapons or using equipment worth millions of dollars?
I did a lot of ASVAB tutoring years ago, and the things people aren’t learning in school these days is shameful.
I took the ASVAB in high school. It said I was suited to Military Intelligence.
I don’t know if I should have been insulted.
You’d fit in with MI, although I could give you a very thorough explanation from my own experience of why it’s frequently given as an example of an oxymoron.
Still, the Army was worst job I ever loved. It was the one I liked the most and kept the longest. Oh well. I’m somewhat relieved I got out when I did. There were various reasons why it would not have worked out for me in the long run.
You probably took the mini-ASVAB. The first time I took one, the Navy tried to talk into being a nuclear propulsion officer.
Same..the Navy was clamoring for me to go into their nuclear program. My step-dad really wanted me to go into the Navy
So some questions I have.
Was it a solo flight or did he have wingman? If he did, typically only one will have their transponder on otherwise our civilian automation systems will call out collision alerts. If that is the case, his aircraft could have been the one without the transponder on.
Second, if flying a domestic mission, there typically is a RCS (radar cross section) block placed on the aircraft to help our radars see them on primary returns. We did this with the F117 and F22. Not 100% though as they are usually on the belly of the airframe.
Then the obvious question…why eject if the aircraft was still flyable. My guess, pilot error or malfunction of some sort that led the pilot to eject.
WSJ this AM noted he DID have a wingman.
They say he had a wingman
You’d think the other pilot would have maintained visual contact with the other jet after the ejection
“Well shoot Dave just ejected. Guess this mission is over. Dunno where his plane is gonna fly off too but I’m heading back to base.”
I’m assuming the wingman followed the pilot who ejected.
That would be correct, he would have entered an orbit and trained his tracking camera on the ejecting pilot to ensure positive chute deployment.
“What, you want us to go outside? On Foot?!
“We might break a heel!”
I don’t think that speaks highly of our spy satellite capabilities.
Asking for an overhead retasking for a downed military aircraft in the continental United States would get you nothing but a nasty laugh from Fort Belvoir.
They knew exactly were it was the whole time, but some power games in the Pentagon prevented disseminating the information.
Noting else makes a lick of sense.

Shouldn’t Oktoberfest be during October?
A common misconception. The term comes from “octo” and “bier,” meaning “Eight beer festival” because you are supposed to drink a minimum of eight beers while attending.
Eight in German is Acht. You should have claimed it was Acht-Ober-Fest, “eight or above festival”.
Lie better, man.
Please, the festival dates back to pre-German days and was named by the monks who were educated in both Greek and Latin.
Next you’re going to tell me that “tetragrammaton” isn’t a thing because the Israelites spoke Hebrew.

That’s going to require a lot of used beer disposal.
Warmer weather and slightly longer days in September is my guess
Traditionally, it ends the first weekend in Oktober, but begins two weekends earlier.
So late September is the appropriate time.
The actual end date is slightly more complicated than that, kind of like calculating Easter.

Even in Germany that was always a little confusing, because it’s mostly in September. But it does always end in early October (first Sunday in the month IIRC).

French men’s insecurity over paternity of offspring creating ‘a society of doubt’
…
Paternity tests were banned in France 15 years ago. If French customs intercept DNA samples or results in the mail, the perpetrators in theory risk up to a year in prison and a €15,000 fine. The French Council of State upheld the law on May 6th, saying it did not want “to upset the French regime of filiation” and that the intent of lawmakers was to preserve “the peace of families”. On May 15th, the German Bundesrat adopted a similar measure.

This article is from 2009, BTW.
Sounds like she fucked around.
WTF??
Pretty much the same here, I think. In most places, the husband is on the hook for kids born (or maybe even conceived) during the marriage, no matter who the father is.
Even if that’s so, the test isn’t illegal.
Just pointless.
At least he would know for sure why little Johnny looks like the UPS guy.
And even more shockingly, France has a below-replacement fertility rate. Gee, maybe there’s a connection.
So France is a nation of cuckolds…
Ensuring paternity was also a theme running through the tweet stream, but the general conversation centered around the idea that women should suck it up when their men cheat, not really what happens when a woman cheats.
No one who breaks a vow of such magnitude is worthy of trust or respect, regardless of sex.
It’s one thing to go to your spouse with “I don’t think this is working.”, it’s another to go behind their back and maintain a false facade of normalcy.
If your word is not worth the breath it’s spoken on, how can you be trusted?
My first instinct is to say, “You’re adorable,” but that would be mean. The fact is that adultery being so looked down upon is a relatively recent thing and, I think, in line with that one tweet that talks about marriages being based on love and trust instead of money, power, or politics (see Bill and Hillary Clinton).
Also, now women have the financialand societal means to divorce a cheating husband when she has almost never had any power/resources to do that before the 20th century, so saying, “The women should suck it up” is actually saying “Keep sucking it up the way you’ve always been forced to, even though you don’t have to now.”
All of this, also cover for homosexuality as below.
I didn’t understand UnCiv to be saying men should be able to fuck around on their spouses, but not women. I read him to be saying he has a hard time trusting anyone, man or woman, who fucks around on their spouse. And I agree.
I’m not so sure adultery was just laughed off until recent times. Scarlet Letter, anyone? If anything, the stakes were higher in days of yore, because the design margin for everything was much smaller. What’s changed is two things – women can just end their adulterous pregnancy much more easily and safely, and men can’t count on getting away with making women pregnant, what with genetic testing and all. So the risk/benefit is more level now than it used to be.
Oddly, the ability to identify the father with dead certainty is something the courts simply refuse to engage with if the woman happens to be legally married.
That is what I said.
I understood what UCS was saying. I was just taking it a different, more cynical direction.
Apologies. I was thinking, “How would you know if they’re adulterous or not? People lie.” and didn’t actually put that down, and then went on with the rest of what I was thinking.
In order to tell the story of the sickest burn ever given by a French wife, I must first give you a short history lesson.
***
Louis Hubert Gonzalve Lyautey[b] (17 November 1854[1] – 27 July 1934) was a French Army general and colonial administrator. After serving in Indochina and Madagascar, he became the first French Resident-General in Morocco from 1912 to 1925. Early in 1917 he served briefly as Minister of War. From 1921 he was a Marshal of France.[2] He was dubbed the French empire builder, and in 1931 made the cover of Time.[3][4] Lyautey was also the first one to use the term “hearts and minds” as part of his strategy to counter the Black Flags rebellion during the Tonkin campaign in 1895.[5]
…
Lyautey adopted and emulated Gallieni’s policy of methodical expansion of pacified areas followed by social and economical development (markets, schools and medical centres) to bring about the end of resistance and the cooperation of former insurgents. This method became known as tache d’huile (literally, “oil stain”), as it resembles oil spots spreading to cover the whole surface. Lyautey’s writings have had a significant influence on contemporary counterinsurgency theory through its adoption by David Galula.[27] He also practiced a policy known as politique des races, i.e. dealing separately with each tribe; this was done to avoid any one tribe from gaining too much influence within the colonial system.[28]
…
Lyautey has been called “perhaps France’s most distinguished – or infamous – homosexual.”[52] Prime Minister Georges Clemenceau – whom Lyautey despised, as he did most politicians – is quoted as having said:
Here is an admirable and courageous man who always had balls up to his ass. It’s just a shame that they are not always his.[53]
It has been speculated that Lyautey might have provided Marcel Proust with the model for the character of the homosexual Baron de Charlus in his magnum opus Remembrance of Things Past.[52]
The actual evidence for Lyautey being a homosexual is primarily circumstantial,[54] but it was widely regarded as an open secret at the time,[53][55] one which some historians claim Lyautey did not take any effort to hide.[56][57] Robert Aldrich writes that he liked hot climates and “the masculine company of young officers”.[10] Lyautey’s wife is said to have told a group of her husband’s young officers that “I have the pleasure of informing you that last night I made you all cuckolds,” implying that the officers were all paramours of her husband, and that she had had sex with Lyautey the night before.[53]

Iran hacked a US drone and captured it during the Obama years. His response was to politely ask for its return.
***
On 12 December 2011, the U.S. administration asked Iran to return the captured U.S. drone.[23] The day before, on 11 December, General Salami stated that “no nation welcomes other countries’ spy drones in its territory, and no one sends back the spying equipment and its information back to the country of origin.”[24] On 13 December 2011, Defence Minister of Iran, dismissed the request and said “Instead of apologising to the Iranian nation, it is brazenly asking for the drone back.” And the ministry spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast, stated that “it seems he [Obama] has forgotten that Iran’s airspace was violated, spying operations were undertaken, international laws were violated and that Iran’s internal affairs were interfered with… . Instead of an official apology and admitting to this violation, they are making this request.”[25]
Former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney criticized Obama’s decisions on the drone, saying that, after the aircraft went down, the president should have ordered an airstrike within Iran: “The right response to that would have been to go in immediately after it had gone down and destroy it. You can do that from the air … and, in effect, make it impossible for them to benefit from having captured that drone.” Instead, “he asked nicely for them to return it, and they aren’t going to”.[26]
On 17 January 2012, an Iranian company said it would send miniature, toy versions of the captured drone to President Obama as a response to the request for sending the drone back.[27]
***
Cheney had a slightly less stupid idea for once.
An airstrike in Iran over a drone is preferable to asking for it back? You need to recalibrate your less stupid idea meter.
Making a polite request of a country whose motto is Death to America? Call me crazy, but it seems like a waste of time.

Seems to me like this psy-ops thing is not going as planned. Sure, they expected a handful of conspiracy theorists to push back. But we’re at a point where all but the die hard Dems have zero trust in the government and the media. That doesn’t look like a good plan.

Two different news organizations decided to contact all of Russel Brand’s exes looking for anyone willing to dish dirt. They even said they were not willing to come forward until after a reporter contacted them and convinced them.
Digging around to find 4 people means they must have spent quite a bit of time looking and talking to other people. I think they mentioned spending a year on the project.
Simultaneously, a different outlet is going after Governor Noem and yet another group is going after Bobert.
The fact that it all happens at the same time and it is across multiple media groups lets you know that this is being coordinated above the level of the press – probably above the level of the DNC. Prior to Taibbi, I wouldn’t have guessed the involvement of the Feds, even after seeing what they did with Trump. But now? Taibbi made it clear that there is a well-coordinated system that meets regularly to assign this sort of work, feeding leads and stories to specific outlets and telling others which stories to amplify or downplay.
They are forgetting something:
The people pushing for kid grooming sure seem to be concerned about Noem and Boebert’s love lives and how appropriate they are or aren’t, that’s for sure.
I’m assuming this is all being run by the intelligence agencies.
I agree. They have been studying propaganda and psychological warfare for decades, and they’re using it on their own country.
I had a healthy bit of skepticism about the allegations of the US being behind the regime change in Ukraine. They involved pretty much all of the same stuff we have been seeing here for the last decade.
I have much less skepticism on both counts now.

Edwin P. Wilson was born to a poor farming family in Nampa, Idaho, in 1928. He first worked as a merchant seaman. In 1953, Wilson earned a psychology degree from the University of Portland.[3][4] That same year, Wilson joined the Marines and fought in the last days of the Korean War. He was said to have been impressive during his military service and, when he was discharged in 1956 for a knee injury, went to work for the Central Intelligence Agency.[5]
…
Wilson’s first assignments were for the Office of Security; this included a stint in 1956 guarding U-2 spy planes in Turkey. In 1960, the Agency sent him to Cornell University for graduate studies in labor relations. He put this and his knowledge of psychology to use in the Agency’s International Organizations Division (IOD) tackling communism in trade unions around the world. Wilson was involved in attempts to destabilize European labor unions, for example, by using methods as diverse as involving Corsican mobsters and using plagues of cockroaches.[6][7]
“Wilson was on the CIA’s payroll, and doing the agency’s bidding, all the time he was employed by one of the largest labor unions in the United States as its international representative in Europe. He served as an advance man for Hubert H. Humphrey in the 1964 campaign, thus playing an active role in partisan politics, while still working for the CIA.”[8]
However, Wilson’s most valuable time for the CIA was in Special Operations Division (SOD) setting up front companies like Maritime Consulting Associates (1964) and Consultants International (1965), which were used to covertly ship supplies around the world.
…
In the 1970s, he became involved in dealings with Libya. Wilson claimed that a high-ranking CIA official Theodore “Blond Ghost” Shackley asked him to go to Libya to keep an eye on Carlos the Jackal, the infamous terrorist, who was living there.[3] At the time, a strict sanctions regime was in place against Libya and the country was willing to pay a great deal for weapons and material.
…
He claimed that he was still working for the CIA despite the government’s continued denials, and that his supplying of weapon to the Libyans was an attempt to get close to them and gain valuable intelligence.[13] This included attempts at gathering information on the Libyan nuclear program.[14]
…
The most dramatic deal, and the one that brought Wilson to the attention of the U.S. government, was for some twenty tons of military-grade C-4 plastic explosives.[15] This was a massive quantity that was equal to the entire U.S. domestic stockpile.[3][failed verification] Most of Wilson’s connections were still under the impression that he was working for the CIA and a wide network in the United States supported his actions.

Remember when Trump was in office and everyone was noting how curious it was that social media companies seemed to be coordinating their bans and people suggested that US intelligence was involved? Some insisted that this wasn’t the case and it’s a private company (unlike a cake baker for some reason). And then when it was revealed that US intelligence was involved then those same people quibbled over how much pressure was being applied to these companies and whether or not this was actual government interference.
The reality is that some people will accept this as just reporters doing their jobs, no matter what. They would rather be fashionable than honest or principled.
It’s not happening but if it is it’s a good thing.
If only there were a publication devoted to freedom and liberty…. one where reporters would champion free speech and freedom of expression… one designed explicitly for this moment… (and that didn’t tell me that shadow bans don’t exist, people like Alex Jones are gross and should be banned, and that Trump is gross and dangerous and his speech should be banned. Heck, maybe one that didn’t react to the revelations of Twitter with a giant “meh” because it turns out that their parent organization is one of the core members of the speech police.)

The Western giants are going to happily annihilate that corridor using proxies and civil unrest in order to prevent further pipeline development from Russia to Iran.
Nobody in that area should trust the West at all, but they will do so regardless.
The only hope that the Armenians have is the Russians or the French. The French are still somewhat touchy about that stuff and they claim sovereignty over certain churches in the old Ottomon Empire. But, the likelihood of the French undermining their NATO ally Turkey, perhaps the second largest military contributor to NATO, is next to nil. Especially since Western Christian churches have done such a fine job of ignoring the genocide and never skewing from NATO policy (thank you, Francis the Coward).

Trust the press. Trust the government. There is no conspiracy.
With all of these psychopaths being on the same page no conspiracies are needed.
There is a conspiracy among the far left (Brand, Rogan, Greenwald, Taibbi, etc.) to spout Nazi ideology like “free speech” and to couch it in terms of conspiracy theories.
Trust us….. We are the totally centrist and neutral press, working in conjunction with the government to fight this misinformation.
far left?
Russel Brand is unquestionably of the extreme left (not communist left, but the far, far left). So is Taibbi, Greenwald, Rogan …. the statist left just quit pretending to be anything associated with liberalism.
They all would probably identify as left-libertarian these days.
I always described my politics as “way more liberal than you” if I was talking to a democrat, and “way more conservative than you” if I was talking to a republican.

How is this not just another example that federal courts are hopelessly biased against Christians? People who vandalized churches and statues in front of police received misdemeanor local charges (at worst) as the feds refused to investigate. These are the same courts that for two years could not find the first clause of the first amendment, but are real fast to declare a constitutional right to a seven year-olds having his genitals removed.
This is just par for the course. These women will receive the maximum. No way can you depend on a judge to not be bigoted toward orthodox Chrisitians.
There’s no question. How many churches were destroyed and vandalized in Canada over a fucking “indigenous” hoax? No one paid a price.
I’d love to see the evidence too. Did they actually block access? Probably not. I can’t see 70 year old grannies being much of a physical show stopper to people walking inside a clinic.
Here comes the bus
Hunter Biden has gone on the offensive against his Republican critics, arguing in a new lawsuit that although he is the son of the president of the United States, he shouldn’t be treated differently than any other American.
The lawsuit against the IRS is only the latest in a series of counterpunches by the president’s son. But while Hunter Biden’s lawyers might think that an aggressive approach is the best legal strategy for Biden the son, that might not be what’s best for Biden the father as he seeks reelection and tries to keep the public focused on his policy achievements.
The president has had little to say about his son’s legal woes — which now include a felony indictment — beyond that Hunter did nothing wrong and he loves his son. The White House strategy has been to keep the elder Biden head-down and focused on governing, reasoning that that’s what voters will prioritize, while working to keep Hunter’s troubles at arm’s distance.
Maybe they can John-Belushi Hunter, and sweep back into the White House on a wave of sympathy.
With their no-primary and no-campaign strategy, it is quite apparent that they don’t think they need any such wave of support. Or any support from voters at all.
Yeah, I’m that cynical. Hard not to be with the open rigging of the Democrat primary….. again.
The more lawsuits Hunter brings, the more he opens the door to discovery. I think this strategy only works if the prosecutors/government defense lawyers/judges are in on it.
So, it’ll work.

Interesting that “populist” is everywhere all of a sudden.
Tucker had a nice interview with the leading candidate for president in Argentina. Libertarian who quotes Milton Freidman. “populist”.
Populist libertarian – now there is a label that describes nothing.
I think “populist” is an establishment term to describe anyone who isn’t hewing to the establishment narrative.
Populist doesn’t seem to describe anything other that saying stuff that is popular with the common man. Which could be anything at all.
What I do know is that according to everyone who is anyone – even the writers at Reason – populism is super-dangerous and definitely Hitler adjacent.
Populist is the new fascist.
You’d think in a democracy, being a populist would be a virtue.
Is it a conspiracy if they do it in plain sight?

Leave Lauren Boobiebert alone.
Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert will not be charged for public indecency or otherwise, after video footage captured her seemingly being intimate during a public theater performance in Denver on September 10.
The footage was captured on a night vision camera and was not in plain view so good call on the no charge. All I can say is thank God they didn’t have that tech readily available in the 1980s.
Heh….. they really are destroying their own narratives.
No tolerance for hot moms, huh? I was single at 36, and I totally would have been vulnerable to a night vision spy.
My take is that whole event was set up to make Boobert look bad….
Assume the machine is always looking for gotcha moments if you are someone they have beef with…
Anyone who watched the tape did not think that it made her look bad. Not even a little bit.
We grew up in a wondrous time. We knew how to cover our tracks, instead of openly posting our stupid antics for the world to see.
I covered my tracks by hooking up with my then-girlfriend, later wife in the back row of the dark theater. Because we were 20 and there wasn’t some idiot with a night vision camera filming it.
See also the library stacks, football stadium, bushes outside the bell tower….. young love in college is a walking stereotype.
So, my question is, who has been stalking Boebert with a nigh vision camera, and for how long?

But privately, some Democrats are concerned that Hunter Biden’s legal problems could harm Biden heading into 2024 and pose difficulties for Democrats in tight House races, according to people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
——-
Roughly 1 in 3 Americans are highly concerned about whether Joe Biden may have committed wrongdoing related to his son’s business dealings, according to a recent poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. About half of Americans say they have little or no confidence that the Justice Department is handling its investigation into Hunter Biden in a fair and nonpartisan way.
The political divide on these points is stark: 66% of Republicans — and just 7% of Democrats — are very or extremely concerned about whether Joe Biden committed wrongdoing when it comes to his son’s business dealings.

I wonder what is up with that. Surely it would have been rebuilt by now, if there wasn’t an implicit threat of immediate destruction. Or maybe not “implicit”.
The US blowing up their pipeline did less damage than Germany wrecking its own energy economy over the last decade or so.

This started years ago with the Eurozone. Germany started bailing out other countries with their wealth. It takes some time to siphon off the wealth of a country. Germany became dependent on others to keep running, such as cheap Russian gas. That became the last straw in a decades long graft which started in 1999. Took about 25 years to wreck them. Probably a round 30 years before we see the end game.

Weirder and weirder
Attorneys for a northern Indiana man charged with killing two teenage girls contend in court documents filed Monday that their client had nothing to do with the crimes and that the girls died as part of a ritual sacrifice.
Attorneys Andrew Baldwin and Brad Rozzi, who represent Richard Allen of Delphi, said in a 136-page document that 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German were killed by members of a pagan Norse religion and white nationalist group known as Odinists.
——-
“Members of a pagan Norse religion, called Odinism, hijacked by white nationalists, ritualistically sacrificed Abigail Williams and Liberty German,” the attorneys said in the filing.
“Absolutely nothing links Richard Allen to Odinism or any religious cult,” they wrote.
The attorneys claim that two groups of Odinists, one from the Delphi area and one from the Rushville area in southeastern Indiana, were investigated for their involvement in the crimes. They say investigators found multiple ritualistic symbols at the crime scene, including the way Liberty’s body was positioned.
Sure, why not?
Were Blood Eagles involved?
“highjacked”?
So the original Norse were an inclusive bunch of wokesters?
“It was a devil cult” is a really unfortunate sounding defense. I mean, that would be rotten luck – “that murder was done by a cult of cannibal wikkans” is always going to sound crazy, even if true.
I remember that. It went unsolved for a year maybe? But I thought they had video of someone (the accused) talking to the girls, or just in the area.

Also… apparently “screw the Irish”
the irish had nothing worth trading I assume. India had spice probably.
It’s fascinating that there are not many coins in Mesopotomia, but a large amount in southern India. Very odd. Unless the Romans avoided Mesopotomia in trade because of their long standing rivalry with the Sassania and other Persian states.
or maybe persia had plenty coin and used money changers.
That’s a good point. The Persians were prolific traders themselves.
It’s also cheaper to skip the middlemen.
They did. India was a significant trade partner via the Red Sea route. Mesopotamia didn’t make anything the Romans couldn’t get elsewhere, and as violent rivals, it was easier to go around than enrich their foes.
I just assumed you know who took all the coins.
Relax, that was a joke.

Surprisingly good article.
Also
Drunk History has had some great takes on retelling historical narratives…..
Populist defeatism
The Ukraine money is now stuck in limbo as part of a complicated fight over spending that is pitting Republicans against one another and the House against the Senate. Congress has less than two weeks to avoid a shutdown at the end of the month, and McConnell wants to pass Ukraine aid on the same timeline, but there is little urgency among Republicans.
“There’s no national security interest for us in Ukraine, and even if there were, it would be trumped by the fact that we have no money,” said Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky. His long-held opposition to essentially all foreign intervention once made Paul a fringe thinker in the party, but the rise of Trumpian, American First ideology now aligns Paul with a super-majority of Republican voters.
An August CNN poll showed that a majority of Americans, 55%, say Congress should not authorize more funding for Ukraine. The opposition is driven by a sharply polarized electorate, with 71% of Republicans opposing new funding, compared to 62% of Democrats who said they support additional funding.
Dominoes!
Fight them over there or we’ll have to fight them over here!
is anyone even bothering with that version? Or do they just say you are a Putin puppet if you don’t spend even more on killing people in Ukraine?
a super-majority of Republican voters
That is still voting in establishment, foreign-meddlers. Hmmm.
This probably explains why you only see Ukraine flags on BMWs and houses always worth more than half a million. Say what you will about the Iraq War, but at least the people who supported that sent their own kids. There is no way that some white collar worker living in a high income suburb is going to go himself; send his kids, or know anyone who will serve.
Super weird… here in South Florida we have a uniformly democrat political machine – but there are tons of Trump flags and banners. And also a bunch of Ukraine flags. Way more Ukraine flags than Biden paraphernalia.
Maybe its specific to my metro area, but it’s a little jarring and others have noticed the pattern too.
Also odd… BLM goes directly with Ukraine flag and Antifa anarchy symbol and trans flag.
That combo absolutely makes my brain hurt, but if you go to the (predominantly white) gay neighborhood near me, that’s what you’ll see.
But but but I thought the G didn’t like the T!
The white working class has steadily become part of the Republican base while whites w/ college degrees have become Democratic. In a new paper, I study the issue basis of this realignment, showing that both economic and cultural issues have contributed.

In unrelated news, college campuses have become leftist indoctrination camps…..
My favorite is when they interpret “college degree” as “intelligent”. I could have sworn that it was mainly college educated people who stupidly said you can stop an airborne virus by shutting down schools, churches, and small businesses while keeping liquor stores, weed dispensaries, and big box stores open. Truckers weren’t dumb enough to fall for that. People with college all fell for that in a humiliating fashion.
The most salient image of the last decade may be the Karen in her BMW X5… alone… wearing her mask.
I still see people like that.
I put this paper in the “water is wet” research category.
Populism is “stuff the unwashed rabble want which does not politically or financially benefit the elites”.
That could explain how the US went from “bimetallism is a filthy idea pushed by filthy people” to “fiat currency is a smart idea pushed by smart good people” in about fifty years. The elites saw which way the wind was blowing and they positioned it to their benefit.
According to the thumbnail on a Crowder video that youtube suggested – Russel Brand has been demonitized on YouTube due to the allegations against him.
Allegations which have absolutely nothing at all to do with his youtube channel, the content, or anything that might be said there.
So….. how bullet proof is their agreement?
Also… only one of the allegations even sounds remotely like “assault”, and that one is of a “You didn’t wear a rubber” type – where it isn’t entirely clear that this was a unilateral decision …. and one that I wouldn’t think would rise to the level of “rape” under our current thinking. I mean – are all those guys got trapped into being a baby daddy off of the “It’s safe, I’m on the pill” gambit victims of rape? Because I definitely have an open and shut case for attempted rape on that count, dating back a very long time. (yes, I was not falling for that one).
The other one that sounds bad is the 16 year old – until you learn that the age of consent is 16 over there.
Also, also… same folks told me that Roman Polanski sodomizing a 12 year old girl after giving her ludes was no big deal.
Also, also, also…. Brand is on Rumble, and apparently doing well there.
“one is of a “You didn’t wear a rubber” type”
The mere fact that this is a crime and that there is even a word for this (“stealthing”) speaks to how degenerate behavior enables bigger more intrusive government. I know this is terribly uncool to say, but if men and women only had intercourse with people that they have known for a long time or who they have a deep connection with, none of this would be a problem. How many stories are there of couples engaged in a relationship for two years where the man has tried to have sex with her without a condom against her permission? This shit only happens with strange.
For people like McConnell, Graham, and Kagan, the question of what is at stake for the world here could not be more consequential. “This is what Americans need to understand. The alternative to the U.S. leadership of the world as it is, is a Hobbesian world that is the war of all against all. We are much closer to that world than most people imagine,” he said.
I wonder how we got here.
Luckily, we can just ship our treasure and weapons around the world. Problem averted! no more war, amirite?
Maybe he should ask the people of Syria, Yemen, and Armenia their thoughts on the possibility of this “Hobbesian nightmare”.
I give him credit for at least making a reference to Hobbs.
