Neither Jordan nor Egypt Will Accept Refugees Fleeing Gaza Strip

I just saw DeSantis statement to this effect, that they had historically done this, labelled with “alleged” on my local news in SW Fl. Where things are pretty red. No such qualifier is ever attached to the nonsense Biden sfays.

    • WTF

For America, everything. For the people that want chaos and desperation, it will be a boon as they promise to fix the problems they created, by design, if we give up our freedoms and let them turn us into globalist serfs.

‘Rioters Set Fire to U.S. Embassy in Lebanon’

There needs to be consequences when countries do not protect our embassy. While we should absolutely be prepared to defend our staff overseas, the home country is responsible for controlling their populace.

‘US military groups deployed smoke and gas to disperse the protestors who gathered at the embassy following an attack on a hospital in Gaza.’

I’m glad that is all that was required.

Why, oh why do we need a 43-acre embassy in Lebanon of all places? There is no way we have kept the cost under$1 billion for it. So, so dumb.

Prosecutors plan to charge Alec Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter: report

That is appropriate for his level of culpability. I doubt he intended to kill anyone and probably thought there wasn’t live ammunition in the weapon, but did point it and pull the trigger.

    • Brochettaward

The article isn’t clear who is bringing the charges. I’m kind of opposed to endless investigations into a guy even if her was cleared by the special prosecutor for reasons that seem suspect to me.

      • UnCivilServant

      • Not Adahn

When I’m inventing alternate forms of government, my courts always have two different questions to answer:

        1. Did you do it?
        2. If so why?

If you did it, unless you can affirmatively push responsibility on someone else, you have to make restitution for the damage you did. Accident or no, if you hurt someone, you have to make them whole.

      • R C Dean

Will your courts impose any punishment other than ordering restitution (which in many cases of criminal violence, will never be (fully) paid)?

      • Not Adahn

Question 2 would be where “retribution” comes in.

      And aliens. Can’t forget them.

      • Drake

      • milo

I just did a cursory image search. Actually didn’t find any showing post damage. I do recall seeing one supposed image of the site yesterday and that multi-story building was on the ground.
I find it a little odd that there aren’t pics teed up off a search…front and center.

      • Suthenboy

There is a long history of that kind of thing in that part of the world. Murder your own people in some outrageously horrible way and try to pin it on your enemies for propaganda purposes. These are not civilized people.
I remember it happening many times when there was war in Lebanon.

      • blighted_non_millenial

Plenty of amateur bda on twitter. The whole thing was horseshit. The hospital wasn’t leveled. The parking lot got smoked. There are cars largely intact 10m from the impact. Unless there were a lot of people milling in the parking lot and nearby courtyard, no way casualties are as high as reported whoever did it and it sure as shit wasn’t a 1000lb or 2000 lb bomb from the idf.

      • milo

The stupid part worries me the most.

      • R C Dean

        Within minutes of the explosion.

Supposedly there is video showing secondary explosions, indicating Hamas was using the hospital (as they do) as some kind of storage or a rocket launching facility. Also, Hamas is supposed to have announced right before the explosion that they were launching big rockets at Israel. Which may have prompted an Israeli counter strike, which may have hit the hospital (hence the secondary explosions).

We may never know, but regardless of whether it was a bad Hamas rocket (they are made out of water pipes, after all) or an Israeli counter, it still goes on Hamas’ ledger as a debit.

It is amusing to watch our media switch from flyspecking reports of beheaded babies to uncritically publishing Hamas’ claims.

      • hayeksplosives

One theory is that Hamas was hiding a cache of missiles in the hospital (they are known to do that kind of thing) and that’s why there was a huge fireball when their launch attempt failed.

      • AlexinCT

From what I have seen, the initial impact was not the real big explosion (the missile broken in 2 crashed in the parking lot and in part of the building), but the warhead on that improvised Hamas missile – made from dug up water pipes – triggered secondary explosions. My bet is they were hiding weapons in the hospital and their improvised missile bit them in the ass in what looks like a nice twist of justice.

Workers on the Millennium Bridge, by reducing the headroom of the bridge while they work, have triggered an ancient by-law of London requiring that a bale of straw be hung underneath to warn river traffic:

    https://twitter.com/carobmill/status/1714290885138202851

    • Nephilium

There’s a law in Cleveland that bans horse drawn carriages from certain parts of the city down by the river (locally known as the Flats) as the hills to get in or out of the area were too steep for carriages to safely navigate. Due to the way the peddlebuses (seats 8-12 people who have pedals and cranks to move the vehicle from bar to bar) are licensed, they fall under the ban as well.

There is a bridge like that right next to the University of Louisville. Its probably technically on-campus even, although only parking on the far side of the bridge.

I worked in a building right next to it. The whole building would shake when a truck hit the bridge.

Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah movement Tuesday called for a “day of rage” to condemn a strike on a Gaza Strip hospital as hundreds of demonstrators gathered at the French and US embassies in protest.

Hezbollah, an ally of Palestinian militant group Hamas, blamed the hospital attack on Israel, calling it a “massacre” and a “brutal crime”, while Israel’s army blamed a rocket misfired by Islamic Jihad, another Gaza-based militant group.

The health ministry in Gaza, ruled by Hamas militants at war with Israel, said at least 200 people were killed in an Israeli strike on the hospital where displaced people had sheltered in the coastal enclave.

“Let tomorrow, Wednesday, be a day of rage against the enemy,” Hezbollah said in a statement, calling on fellow Muslims and Arabs to “move immediately to streets and squares to express intense anger.”

A bipartisan group of lawmakers is urging the Biden administration to swiftly crack down on the use of cryptocurrencies by Hamas and its affiliates following the Palestinian militant group’s deadly attack in Israel earlier this month.

In a letter sent on Tuesday to the U.S. Treasury Department and the White House led by Senators Elizabeth Warren, Roger Marshall and Representative Sean Casten, 105 lawmakers expressed “grave concern” that Hamas and an affiliated group called Palestinian Islamic Jihad were using digital assets to fund their operations and evade U.S. sanctions.

“Congress and this administration must take strong action to thoroughly address crypto illicit finance risks before it can be used to finance another tragedy,” the letter said.

Israeli police said in an Oct. 10 statement that it had frozen several crypto accounts that were used to solicit donations for Hamas. Reuters reported in May that Israel had seized around 190 crypto accounts at crypto exchange Binance since 2021, including dozens it said were owned by Palestinian firms connected to Hamas.

Binance said the exchange had been “working closely with international counter-terrorism authorities” on the seizures.

From its inception, the cryptocurrency community touted digital assets as vehicles for anonymous transactions, and a slew of federal enforcement actions for fraud, money laundering and unregistered coin offerings has put the industry in the spotlight.

Hamas uses a global financing network to funnel support from charities and friendly nations, including by using cryptocurrencies, Reuters reported on Monday.

And if it should happen to result in total government tracking of financial transactions, that’s a bonus.

    • The Other Kevin

There has to be some connection between Hamas and Jan. 6 that will allow them to go after MAGA extremists.

The isolated and inadvertent use of an incorrect name or pronoun will generally not constitute unlawful harassment, but, as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has explained, continued intentional use of an incorrect name or pronoun (or both) could, in certain circumstances, contribute to an unlawful hostile work environment.

Fuck it, I’m using last names only.

Stop the carousel. I want to get off.

      ‘in certain circumstances’

Especially if you find your self in the circumstance of being a wrong thinker.

    What America is thinking

Americans overwhelmingly side with unionized autoworkers in their ongoing strike against major car companies, a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS finds, even as most say that elected officials should steer clear of labor disputes.

Asked about the current United Auto Workers union strike against General Motors, Ford and Stellantis (which sells under the Jeep, Ram, Dodge and Chrysler brands), Americans side roughly 3-to-1 with the union members: 76% say their sympathies lie more with the workers on strike, with just 23% siding with the employers.

Among the roughly half of US adults who hold strong feelings about the strike, pro-labor sentiment is even more lopsided: 43% of all Americans side strongly with the workers and just 8% with the employers. Support for the striking workers is particularly robust among Democrats (56% sympathize strongly), members of union households (57%) and self-described liberals (61%).

    ——-

The CNN poll was conducted by SSRS from October 4-9 among a random national sample of 1,255 adults drawn from a probability-based panel. Surveys were either conducted online or by telephone with a live interviewer. Results among the full sample have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.

And from this we extrapolate to “all Americans”. Totally legit.

Why do I have to pick a side?

      • UnCivilServant

Because we can’t trust Filthy Neutrals. With enemies, you at least know where they stand.

    • B.P.

When asked if they plan to buy an American-made car soon and if they’d be willing to pay a helluva lot more for such a car, respondents overwhelmingly said, “Oh sure.”

    • prolefeed

Hmm … 50% of the unknown percentage of people who agreed to respond didn’t have strong feelings either way. Of that 50% who did have strong feelings, less than half sided with the unions, apparently almost all of them progs.

Yeah, that totes translates to “overwhelmingly sides with unionized autoworkers”

      • UnCivilServant

        Fuck the Unions.

        Especially the UAW.

Telling the overwhelming majority of your workforce their beliefs and opinions are meaningless (or worse) is a sure fire way to foster respect and dignity.

Enough about the Middle East, there are far more important things to deal with.

Some jurisdictions and organizations have also made it clear that intentionally or repeatedly using the incorrect pronouns could be evidence of discriminatory harassment or a hostile environment.

I think I’ll stick to adverbs.

    • Drake

      The player reactions are great.

  31. prolefeed

They don’t mention how many people they tried to contact before they got to 1,255 people who didn’t hang up or tell them to fuck off. 10,000? 50,000?

    • R.J.

      Only union members were contacted.

      • UnCivilServant

Technically, I am a Union Member.

I was even a shop steward for a stint.

It cemented my dislike of the Unions.

    What color is your hydrogen?

President Biden on Friday afternoon announced the selection of seven regional hubs for manufacturing hydrogen, a cleaner energy source than fossil fuels.

    But environmentalists aren’t all cheering.

With $7 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act, the hubs will produce hydrogen that can be used in everything from agriculture to heavy industry without creating pollution when burned.

“We’re building a clean energy future here in America, not somewhere else,” Biden said at the announcement in Philadelphia. “The emission reductions from these hydrogen hubs will be the equivalent of taking 5.5 million gas-powered vehicles off the road — 5.5 million.”

    ——-

Though green groups applauded the Democrats’ Inflation Reduction Act for its massive investments in green energy, they don’t support having some of the funds go to hydrogen made from fossil fuels.

“It is extremely disappointing to see the Biden administration provide funds for hydrogen hubs which will be based on fossil fuels, even with the carbon capture,” Robert Howarth, a professor of ecology at Cornell University, told CNN.

It’s idiots spouting gibberish, all the way down.
