The Hat and The Hair: Classic: Thanksgiving Special

by | Nov 22, 2023 | Hat and Hair | 56 comments

Time for the yearly feeding of the orphans, lest they lose their strength and can no longer work in the monocle mines.

I have decided to replace the Lame Stream Media Holiday Specials with good clean Hat and the Hair episodes! Fuck off Charlie Brown!

I miss the halcyon days of a Trump presidency.

    • Common Tater

Biden acts like he is on halcyon.

    • slumbrew

      Sadly, yes

  3. Fourscore

Excellent, CPRM. In the holiday tradition. I hate to think of what we’d see if Christie got elected.

    • Common Tater

      He would eat both turkeys.

      • Lackadaisical

damn straight. Pardoning turkeys is gay AF.

@4×20, no need to worry, Christie is never going to be elected for anything again.

  4. Gustave Lytton

The MN flag finalists look as shitty as the new UT flag. Fucking children running the world.

    Love it!

We’re actually having a Turkish guy over for dinner tomorrow. I wonder if he’s nervous.

      • pistoffnick

Has he ever been inside a Turkish prison?

First Milei, now Geert Wilders – elected PM in the Netherlands. Granted I havent read much of his policy proposals in the last 10 yrs but while he’s a populist, his only really conservative position was the immigration thing. He’s pretty much a standard Euro liberal in everything else.

      • Brochettaward

Anyone who isn’t explicitly left wing who wins an election is x country’s Donald Trump.

      • Lackadaisical

It is so dumb, but illustrative, since these dopes can’t relate to any other country without inserting american political references.

      • Urthona

Who, incidentally, accomplished little against immigration as president and was actually very moderate.

      • slumbrew

He was to the right of Stalin and not a professional politician, so the next coming of Hitler, obviously.

    • rhywun

I think the immigration thing is going to lead to a lot more of this.

      • R.J.

Sad to think it’s the peasants revolting because immigrants are cutting into citizen’s benefits. I wish it was because they realized socialism is a bad thing.

    • Urthona

They keep acting like every European Bill Clinton is a fascist.

Well, I’m up. Cooking a turkey. Sleep is for the weak.

    • hayeksplosives

I just crawled into bed but will probably read a bit before sleepy time.

      Good luck with the turkey!

    Happy Thanksgiving!

My Thursday will be low key, home with kitty and football; maybe the local sports pub for the Seahawks game.and some turkey.

Friday will be a group potluck gathering at a coworker’s apartment building common are. All the singles or those without local family will be there.

Not traditional, but pretty easy and good company.

    • R.J.

I have a fair sized group of friends coming over. I intend to have all the meats cooled by 8:00 so the friends can finish prepping/warming sides for 1:00 linner. B movies and football will be on. And the parade.

      • Sean

We don’t care about the food. Tell us about your liquor selection.

I’ve been watching some “Unusual Suspects” episodes, a true crime show in the same vein as forensic files, but with stretching out the story for 45 minutes and less forensics.

Two things stand out: the “common knowledge” that high numbers of stab wounds indicate the victim knew the killer and harbored a deep seated hate is often wrong. Lots of the cases they show have the overkill stabbing but the perp didn’t know the victim.

The other thing that surprised me is just how often the cops employ polygraphs. It’s not even admissible in court, but the cops seem to set a lot of stock in them. How often are they really used?

Good morning all! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

Today, a couple of lovely songs from Cindy Lauper:

    All Through the Night.

    Time After Time.

    Share and enjoy!

    • R.J.

      Mrnung,
“All Through the Night” is quite appropriate today.

    • Sean

      80s music.

Thanks, Beau! TAT is a long-time favorite!

No cooking today, IT Lady and I are having the meal on Saturday.

    • Sean

No cooking today here either. But tomorrow the gf is making an almost 13lb standing rib roast. Just for the two of us. 😂.

    TALL HOLIDAY CANS!

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, Sean, homey (are you at home??), R.J., NA, Beau, and Roat! Happy Thanksgiving to Americans and Happy Thursday to International Glibs (or Happy Friday if any of our Asian correspondents are lurking!)

My two sisters and one BIL are coming here for Thanksgiving dinner, but I’m not cooking the turkey. BIL said he was going to dry-brine the (locally raised & slaughtered) bird, spatchcock it (::lights Mojeaux signal::) and bring it here for final roasting. I’m doing the obligatory green bean casserole because I can handle that, plus I have a turkey-shaped casserole dish with the recipe in the bottom. I’m also doing the (instant) mashed potatoes and am thawing out some of Middle Sister’s famous homemade applesauce. I hope it doesn’t get too thawed, because just-thawed-enough-to saw-through-and-eat semi-frozen applesauce is yummy! 😋

We’re having the holiday here in large part because our place is the only one tidy enough for all five of us to find a place to sit down. Also, though, because my oldest sister is recovering from back surgery…but not well enough. Early tomorrow morning she’s going back for more – “exploratory,” trying to figure out why one leg isn’t moving like it should after the previous surgery. 😟

      • UnCivilServant

        Morning.

I don’t have the hassle of guests, but I have an entirely different hassle. I’ve picked up an upper repiratory infection. It started near the base of the Eustachian tube after a nap yesterday afternoon. It crawled up the right side of my throat to take up residence in the space between the back of the nose and the back of the mouth. It’s no longer at the spot it started, so hopefully it’ll burn out quickly.

      • Gender Traitor

Oh, no! I’m so sorry! I’d recommend a soothing warm beverage, but I don’t know how well Diet Dew does when made hot! 😟

      • Sean

        Theraflu & vodka

      • R.J.

Heh. More like tons of vitamins. I had that all week. Thankfully it did not rise beyond nuisance level.

      • UnCivilServant

You don’t want to make diet dew hot 🤢

I’m going to apply various acetominophen decongestants.

      • Sean

        😱 😷

        Feel better

      • Sean

        ☕😁

Best wishes for your sister’s speedy recovery.

      • Gender Traitor

Thank you, Sean. Whatever you’re doing today, I’m confident your meat will be well-protected!

      • R.J.

Wow! Hoping for a speedy resolution for your sister.
Big giant turkey is cooking week over here. It’s been on since 3:00 AM. I did the backside first for an hour and a half, then turned it and covered the breast. It’s on a good roasting rack with water in it. Should be done around 7:30, then I clean up for everyone else to use the oven. Biggest bird I ever cooked at 24 pounds.

      • Gender Traitor

Oh, yes – I’m also sharing a bottle of mead! 😁
