A fun little tune for your links reading pleasure.

STARSHIP LAUNCH TOMORROW! Two-hour launch window opens at 8:00 EST, Friday, November 17. Glowing article here. Hot staging, baby. Watch it live here.

WHY WAS THIS NOT THE DC POLICE? While it is certainly interesting to watch the left engage in factional violence, it is noteworthy that the US Capitol Police (congress’ police force) not the DC government’s Metropolitan Police Department handled the incident yesterday. My tinfoil speculation is that they didn’t have confidence in the DC government. Here’s a piece I wrote about the myriad law enforcement agencies operating in the nation’s capital.

WHERE ARE THE FBI RAIDS, WHERE IS THE CONGRESSIONAL NOV 15 COMMISSION? Twitchy asks those questions. Red State makes observations about the two-tiered justice system on display.

NPR DISCOVERS US LAW LIMITS SATELLITE IMAGERY OF ISRAEL: “It’s not unusual for countries to attempt to restrict satellite imagery of sensitive locations on their own soil. But in this case, the law seeks to protect an entire — and separate — country.” Note how they confuse raising/lowering resolution. “[T]he CRSRA sharply lowered the KBA’s allowed resolution, from 2 meters to .40 meters.”

HOW MUCH DID THEIR CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE PAY FOR THESE? Detroit, Cleveland named among top travel destinations. I want a job writing puff pieces like this.

WHITE HOUSE ANNOUNCES NEW SPACE REGULATORY PROPOSAL: FAA would continue to regulate crewed spacecraft and DOC would regulate uncrewed spacecraft. NASA would still have a role, although the article is vague about that.

PRO-PALI PROTESTERS BLOCK ROADS IN SF, BOSTON: Assholes.

INFRAGREEN IS AN ACTUAL THING: Visible light, especially that of a greenish hue, might spur water to evaporate, researchers report in the Nov. 7 Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In experiments, water evaporating under visible light showed a higher evaporation rate than possible based on heat alone, MIT mechanical engineer Gang Chen and colleagues say. Infragreen reference explained.

THE DAY HELL FROZE OVER: Snoop Dogg is quitting pot.

Special bonus tune, more silly brits doing empire cosplay.

There are too many police forces everywhere — town police, county sheriff, state police, FBI, DEA, BLM, DHS, etc. etc.

    • Rat on a train

It wouldn’t be as bad if agency police forces only had jurisdiction on agency property. What are the Capitol Police doing away from the Capitol?

I’m assuming they have roaming jurisdiction wherever a congresscritter is located.

I know that the Virginia Capitol Police have jurisdiction in Capitol Square, and wherever the Governor is located.

    • Ownbestenemy

We just have a county sheriff. Aint so bad though they handle property taxes…I swear there is a movie about that.

      • SDF-7

Not really — but you made me think of this one

And given the following quote… I really need to go watch it again:

Sheriff Buelton: They’re gonna lose, General. They’re goin’ down in flames and you’re gonna help me do it. I just got back from the governor’s office, and I can have him call you or he can call your superior if that’s the way you want it. But, either way, I’m gonna see some tanks rollin’ out here to stop that maniac.

Maj. Gen. V.E. Hubik: Go ahead, call anyone you like, sheriff. I don’t take orders from governors. Sergeant Major Carey’s resigned. Besides, he’s committed no major crime in my jurisdiction.

Sheriff Buelton: He stole a god damn tank!

Maj. Gen. V.E. Hubik: It’s his tank he can do what he wants with it! The most I’ve got him on is busting a twenty foot section of fence.

Sheriff Buelton: General, I am the local civilian authority and I am hereby making a formal request of the military to do everything in its power to assist and aid me in apprehending known…

Maj. Gen. V.E. Hubik: Posse Comitatus, sir.

Sheriff Buelton: Did you call me a pussy communist?

Maj. Gen. V.E. Hubik: The U.S. Army is, by an act of congress; Posse Comitatus act, specifically precluded from enforcing civilian law outside the military reservation.

        Sheriff Buelton: Pussy communist?

Maj. Gen. V.E. Hubik: That means I do not have the authority to provide you with a single piece of military equipment or personnel without a direct order from my superior or the President of the United States. I can give you his address, if you’d like.

Net neutrality just passed with a whimper under the name of DEI bullshit. I’m going to keep harping about this. Even in this little corner of the internet filled with cynics of government power it’s barely attracted attention. It’s like genuine apathy has set in for…everything.

    • Chafed

I completely agree with you. I also believe this law bill be struck down.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

I think this is agency rule making and not law so the bar should be a little lower to put a stake through its heart. Now if we can only find a fair judge.

      • Chafed

The statute does not authorize this rule. It is in excess of the FCC’s statutory authority.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Well aware, hopefully the courts will piecemeal dismantle it but I won’t hold my breath. The right really dropped the ball not getting the word out ahead of time that this was coming down the road again.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

The surest way to get ultraliberal Cambridge and Boston residents to hate you is by making their traffic worse. Hopefully slumbrew gives us some on the scene reporting.

    • Drake

Seriously. Can’t think of ab easier non-violent way to make people despise you.

      • Tonio

One could argue that blocking people’s freedom of movement is an act of violence. When you block a limited access highway it’s not like you can do a u-turn and escape.

      • Chafed

I completely agree. It’s a form of unlawful restraint. When I see a video of ordinary people pulling Just Stop Oil protestors out of a roadway I want to cheer.

      • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

This, 100% I have zero problem with a car rolling slowly over the area where protesters have blockaded the right of way. Give them plenty of time to leave, but keep pushing them until you are free.

    • Aloysious

I sure hope that I do not encounter any of those types of protestors. I’m not certain I could or even would want to stop. I hate those bastards.

    • slumbrew

The car rarely moves during the week, so I wasn’t even aware of that going on.

If they had blocked the Mass Ave or Longfellow bridges, that would have _really_ enraged people – the BU bridge is not as heavily travelled as the other two.

Still, fuck those people. I find that shit enraging.

Also, Jews for Palestine are dopes – the people you claim you’re agitating for would not return the favor. Indeed, they’d happily defile your corpse. It maybe wasn’t always thus and might not always be thus, but that’s the current reality.

  7. Common Tater

Pro-Palestinian protesters in the U.S. are essentially anti-U.S. protesters. Also, assholes.

    • Chafed

      This is 100% correct.

    • Lachowsky

All protests are essentially pointless and the people who attend them are either useful idiots or paid actors.

      • Chafed

        I’m guessing 99% useful idiots.

    • grrizzly

Not that long ago I thought I was quite pro-Israeli. But this total identification with a foreign country by the entire US government and a large part of the US population doesn’t make me feel good at all. You sound like one these pro-Iraq war conservatives who condemned any anti-war protest twenty years ago as pro-terrorist.

  8. The Late P Brooks

    So fucking tedious

Joe Manchin, the controversial Democratic US senator from West Virginia who is stepping down from Congress, has warned that if Donald Trump is sent back to the White House in next year’s presidential election “he will destroy democracy in America”.

Manchin delivered a withering attack on Trump a week after he announced that he will not seek re-election in 2024. He said that it would be “dangerous” if the American people gave Trump a second term as he would use the opportunity not merely to shake up the political establishment as he did first time round, but to break it.

“I guarantee if he comes back, he’ll break it now, because now he knows enough of what he needs to do to get everything he wants,” Manchin told reporters on Wednesday.

    ——-

“You can’t say that you’re going to take the most powerful office in the world and use it for vengeful purposes,” Manchin said.

“You can’t have this visceral hatred spewing out every time you give a speech, denigrating Americans: the only good American is the one that likes and supports you; the only fair election is the one you win; laws pertain to everybody but you; and January 6 was a walk-in-the-park visit to their favorite place, the United States Capitol. This is crazy stuff.”

    Who are we talking about?

    • prolefeed

“You can’t say that you’re going to take the most powerful office in the world and use it for vengeful purposes,” Manchin said.

To be fair, the Biden administration won’t admit that they’ve weaponized the FBI, etc. for vengeful purposes. Hell, they don’t even have to worry about the TMITE raising the question.

      • R C Dean

        You can’t SAY that.

But if you do it, well, who’s going to stop you?

There is no love lost between Manchin and the leadership of the Democratic party which he has consistently defied, often in line with his own personal coal company interests. In such a narrowly divided Senate – nearly tied with 51 Democrats and 49 Republicans – he has wielded his vote as an axe to kill some of the signature efforts of the Biden administration, including a $2tn environment bill.

On Wednesday he reserved some of his criticism for Joe Biden and the Democratic party. He told Democrats: “Why are you upset with Donald Trump? You should be upset with yourself, to have the most flawed human being to be able to be accepted by how many millions of people to be president.”

    Que?

The anti-war progressive group has advocated for the Pentagon to reduce its military budget as a way to fight climate change, among other causes. The letter, obtained by DailyMail.com and addressed to Code Pink founder Jodie Evans, raises concerns over her husband’s ties to the CCP.

Evans is married to Connecticut-born tech entrepreneur Neville Roy Singham, a self-proclaimed socialist and mega-wealthy benefactor of ‘far-left causes’ who is based in Shanghai, China.

Code Pink is a 501(C)3 non-profit that frequently interrupts hearings and floor proceedings on Capitol Hill. As of late the group has been leading pro-Palestine protests in D.C. and across the nation.”

    Spontaneous combustion

Investigators have made a preliminary determination that the blaze was intentionally set behind a fence where businesses were storing materials under I-10, but they said they do not know yet who started it.

Mel Tillekeratne, an advocate for homeless people and founder of nonprofit The Shower Of Hope, said Saturday’s blaze could have been a horrible human catastrophe.

“We were lucky there that nobody got hurt,” he said. “But something like this could happen at any other encampment at any other time. It’s just a tragedy waiting to happen.”

Tillekeratne said he hopes disasters like this shine a light on how homeless resources and facilities need to be staged in more neighborhoods to keep people away from highways, where pollution from exhaust and traffic accidents are major hazards.

“We’re talking about one of the busiest freeways in the U.S.,” he said, speaking of I-10.

Solis, who represents the area where the fire began, said, “We know that more resources are needed in this area to help overcome the consequences of structural and systemic inequalities.”

More money. The answer is always more money.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

The city government doesn’t care unless Xi is coming for a visit. A couple years back I took a video of homeless living along a bike path under a freeway in San Jose and sent it to the mayor’s office. I doubt he or anyone on his staff bothered to look, because he was he was at an environmental conference where he was advocating for a ban on gas stoves (even though we’ve been assured that nobody wants to do that).

    • rhywun

And somehow when they get more money, there is always way more vagrancy.

      • R C Dean

You get more of what you reward?

  15. The Late P Brooks

Business owners who subleased the storage properties said they voiced concerns for years about fire danger and other hazards related to camps in an industrial zone under I-10.

Rudy Serafin said the number of homeless encampments in the neighborhood has grown steadily since he began storing supplies for his business under the freeway in 2009. He said Serafin Distribution, which provides office supplies and other items, couldn’t get insurance due to concerns about homeless people starting cooking fires. He said he and other business owners made multiple reports asking city officials to act.

Osama bin Laden’s argument why American citizens are responsible for the actions of the US Government has now been used by those who argue that Gaza residents are responsible for whatever Hamas does. Because Gazans had a single opportunity to vote 17 years ago.

      (a) This argument contradicts your continuous repetition that America is the land of freedom, and its leaders in this world. Therefore, the American people are the ones who choose their government by way of their own free will; a choice which stems from their agreement to its policies. Thus the American people have chosen, consented to, and affirmed their support for the Israeli oppression of the Palestinians, the occupation and usurpation of their land, and its continuous killing, torture, punishment and expulsion of the Palestinians. The American people have the ability and choice to refuse the policies of their Government and even to change it if they want.

      (b) The American people are the ones who pay the taxes which fund the planes that bomb us in Afghanistan, the tanks that strike and destroy our homes in Palestine, the armies which occupy our lands in the Arabian Gulf, and the fleets which ensure the blockade of Iraq. These tax dollars are given to Israel for it to continue to attack us and penetrate our lands. So the American people are the ones who fund the attacks against us, and they are the ones who oversee the expenditure of these monies in the way they wish, through their elected candidates.

      • Lachowsky

“Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs accused of rape, decades-long abuse by ex Cassie in disturbing lawsuit

According to court docs obtained by Page Six, the “Me & U” singer — born Casandra Ventura — claimed that after she met the Revolt CEO in 2005 when she was only 19, he allegedly began a pattern of abuse and control that included allegedly forcing her to have sex with male prostitutes while he filmed, physically abusing her and supplying her with drugs….

“Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations,” the lawyer said. “For the past six months, Mr. Combs has been subjected to Ms. Ventura’s persistent demand of $30 million, under the threat of writing a damaging book about their relationship, which was unequivocally rejected as blatant blackmail…

However, Cassie’s lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, told the New York Times that his client and Diddy spoke before she filed the lawsuit and the “Last Night” musician allegedly offered her money to remain silent.

“Mr. Combs offered Ms. Ventura eight figures to silence her and prevent the filing of this lawsuit,” Wigdor said. “She rejected his efforts.””

A quick number crunch reveals if an Intel 13900K chip can do 4 GHz with 300 W, a regular household outlet with 1500 W should be able to boost it to 20 GHz with proper cooling. I could buy such a set-up for $500 plus some peripherals. I think I found my new computer project. Bing says temperature increases linearly with clock speed, so that’s good.

    P = C*F*V^2

    1500 = C*F*110^2
    300 = C*4 GHz*110^2

    5 = F/4
    F = 20 GHz

I’m pretty sure if I got a chip to run a 20 GHz in mineral oil, that would get my name in the papers.
