It’s my day off and I need to let off some steam, so come one come all to the Wednesday night zoom! See the spectacle and the terror!

Folks usually wander in around 7pm Central

    • CPRM

WTF? I had the zoom open. RJ stopped by and then left. The zoom started some kind of countdown like it was going to close. I thought maybe if I logged out and opened it again that might fix whatever that countdown was, Now it says ‘Waiting for host to start meeting’

      • R.J.

I don’t think it was me. Let me try to get back in.

      • R.J.

I got the same message. Waiting for host.

      • CPRM

        Let me back in now.

      • Chafed

        Run! It’s going to blow!

  2. DEG

    Gator? Shoe soup?

    Trippy.

    • CPRM

I had a dream a couple weeks ago where I was skiing down sand dunes in a working shower, while being chased by teenagers who wanted to beat me up. This is tame by dream standards.

“People don’t buy physical media anymore”

I just got a physical copy of Carl Sagan’s “Cosmos” series for my daughter.

    • rhywun

Yeah… for movies and TV, I absolutely buy physical media.

PS. I still buy all my music on (DRM-free) mp3s too. Books are the only thing I currently “stream” (in effect).

      • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

Books are the one thing I refuse to stream. Stacks of hardbacks, I have, and not too few paperbacks and pamphlets.

      • rhywun

The Kindle is just too damn convenient.

      • Chafed

I’m completely with you on music. I’m often surprised what streaming services carry and don’t. For example, Spotify has Tin Machine (David Bowie’s band) but not Tin Machine II.

I also expect retroactive censorship to hit music just as it has books. I don’t think anything will be left of Steel Panther.

    • CPRM

I purposefully bought what I thought was a hard copy of Madden 19 because the shipping would be quicker than my download speed. They sent me a DVD case with a piece of paper inside with a download code.

      • R.J.

        That’s priceless.

      • R C Dean

        Also, common.

  4. hayeksplosives

Whu…?? How can it be a dream episode without those vertical wavy lines and harp sounds in the background?

      • Sean

I went looking for a Young Ones clip to illustrate, but didn’t find it. 😒

  5. Gustave Lytton

I had a Dreamcast and loved it.

    • R.J.

      It was a great system.

    • CPRM

I still contend NFL 2K5 on the Dreamcast looked and played better than any Madden game even to this day.

    • CPRM

The kids are watching tha yootoobs and tiktaks.

      • R.J.

The kids could care less about the presidential election, they already made up their minds to vote commie. He needs to reach intelligent people, Also I would find his ads to be more entertaining than vaccine ads.

      • Brochettaward

The youth vote doesn’t decide elections. Getting thee elderly out in droves does.

      • Chafed

I haven’t seen a single ad for him while watching Baywatch and Star Trek. He is going to lose.

      • slumbrew

I’m getting all sorts of texts from Nikki Haley – she’s shameless.

        She’s also going to lose.

      • Chafed

Sure, but before you block her get Tulsi Gabbard’s number.

  6. Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

UCS, I am guessing you picked up a FLUKE 12? I have one around here in a drawer, somewhere, but, anyway, if you want to test it, you need known values to test against. A good battery, a rated resistor, etc. You can check the resistance of the units leads by putting it on the lowest Ohm setting and touching them together, but that will only show that your battery is working, as you don’t know the resistance to check against. But, a new AA battery should have a VDC of 1.2, your outlets should read around 119VAC, if it has a thermocouple ice water should read 32*, etc. You can get a known resistor from Amazon or any electronic supply, not sure if HD has them or not.

These are good things to check every year or so, just to make sure it is in calibration (and it is basically a simple version of what any calibration shop will perform). The 12 isn’t going to be the most accurate MM, but will be good enough for almost anything you do. I doubt you will ever need to pull amps, so no need for any clamp on meters, or a horseshoe type.

Oh, that reading on your 9volt means it is dead, as it dosn’t have enough Volts to pass any test

    • UnCivilServant

      It’s a Fluke 101.

My known resistors will be arriving tomorrow as part of a breadboard kit.

      • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

OK, same basic procedure then. Soon it will be common as punch to use it.

      • UnCivilServant

I think the device is working correctly, and the issues were all user-related. As familiarity has improved, the numbers coming out of the machine match expectations.

  7. whahappan

Fucking zoom kicked us out when it was still showing 27 minutes left, WTF?

    • Lackadaisical

      I blame sugar free.

      • Sean

        I blame his drug dealer.

  8. kinnath

I have submitted an article. Use to fill gaps as needed.

  9. Tres Cool

“buy a waffle from the chinese midget” ?

On the one hand, I feel a great truth has been told to me.
On the other, I think I need a beer.

  10. hayeksplosives

My cowpokes (Oklahoma State) are leading aTm 24-6 at the half in the “TaxAct Texas Bowl”.

Nothing really at stake. Kinda boring. Perhaps I should check out the zooms…

    • hayeksplosives

….and then the Pokes throw a pick and the Aggies are going to score off of it.

      FML.

      • Not Adahn

To be fair, you chose Pokie State.

You knew what you were getting into.

    • rhywun

This is the only bowl game I watched:

Syracuse football shut out in largest defeat in ACC bowl history

      lol

    • hayeksplosives

I love the “explanations” like, sat on ____ in the shower. Or “alcohol was involved.”

      • dbleagle

At least “was curious” seems accurate on how a screwdriver might be involved.

    • Gender Traitor

Where’s Mojeaux with the codes for all of these?

      • Mojeaux, font of all evil

They’ve already been coded. That’s how they could compile the list.

    • Chafed

I’m genuinely laughing out loud. 3 cellphones! 2 dildos!

    • slumbrew

      “POOL NOODLE”

      Good lord.

      • Chafed

        It was an accident!

    • Mojeaux, font of all evil

Not sure I want to know how a tick got in a vagina. I mean, it could just be poor clothes planning, but still.

I put a teargas pellet up my nose when I was 5. I remember having to be strapped down to a gurney for them to get it out because I was fighting so hard. So there’s that.

      • Gender Traitor

Not sure I want to know how a teargas pellet got in your little hands to be put up your nose… 😳

    • Sean

      OMG… 😂😂

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

I don’t get the penis stuff-I went to a urologist a couple of times, involved a fiber optic camera, and it was very much not fun.

If the drunk scale goes to ‘Drunk Enough To Dance‘, I don’t think I’ve achieved that since my late 20s

    • Gender Traitor

      Good morning, Sean & NA!

Please don’t tell me in which category I go.

      • Gender Traitor

Good morning, U! How are you today?

      • UnCivilServant

        Annoyed at myself.

I robbed myself of sleep to watch over print jobs.

      • Gender Traitor

Well, you know if you aren’t vigilant, they could just keep right on going and take over the whole house.

      • UnCivilServant

I was trying out ABS as a filament material, and it has proven to be the worst I’ve yet used.

It has more trouble adhering to the print bed, it needs to be run hotter to the point that there are warnings that some printers might melt parts of their extruders, it is prone to warping and shrinking, and the printed items are weaker. Of the three items I printed, none came out without a break or a warp, and one shattered on me when I was cleaning up supports. The one that shattered printed just fine in both PLA and PETG.

      • Gender Traitor

I’m guessing it’s the cheapest material available, yet too expensive, as it appears to be completely useless.

      • Not Adahn

ABS is designed for durability, not ease of thermoforming.

      • UnCivilServant

        It fails at durability.

I should not be able to snap a reinforced box structure with my bare hands.

      • Not Adahn

Can you do that with Legos(R)?

’cause that’s what they’re made of.

      • UnCivilServant

Most Lego are not 3D printed.

I started my rant with “As a filament material…”

It doesn’t matter how well the material performs in an unrelated context.

      • Not Adahn

Right. And I said it’s not designed for ease of thermoforming. Your processing technique is fucking up an excellent base material. Like a shitty heat treat of good steel.

Or maybe it’s not really ABS in the package. Who can tell? (I can, I have an FTIR, a DSC, and a thermal extractor hooked up to a GC-MS).

      • Not Adahn

I was akshually responding to GT’s

I’m guessing it’s the cheapest material available, yet too expensive, as it appears to be completely useless.

It’s not the cheapest thermoplastic out there, and it exists for a reason.

      • UnCivilServant

And yes, I have broken Lego bare handed as a child, but that’s besides the point.

But why are you so worked up in defense of an inanimate substance?

      • UnCivilServant

Look, I’m tired, I got very little sleep, so I’m a bit over-antagonistic.

I wish I could just go to sleep, but I’m at work.

      • Not Adahn

Somehow, sleeping at work is still something you can be fired for.

…unless you have a friendly MD that can get you a narcolepsy diagnosis maybe?

  13. Sean

I was gonna drive the GTI in this morning, but the news commies are talking about flooded roads. 😕

    • Not Adahn

      What? VWs no longer float?

      • dontreadonme

They do but as a cost cutting measure small paddles are no longer included in the standard car tool kit.

      • Sean

        That’s fantastic.

    • Ghostpatzer

Doesn’t appear to be coders getting axed.

According to a report by The Information, the company is planning to reorganize a major portion of its 30,000-strong ad sales unit and align the work with the recent advances in AI.

The Goog is a lot of things, digital advertising is a major cash cow. Try turning off the ad blocker and check out the little bar at rhe bottom of the browser. Google Ad Services says hello.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Whenever I turn off my adblocker the internet becomes damn near unusable. I don’t know how people do it.

      • rhywun

Doesn’t appear to be coders getting axed.

Yeah, they probably have entire platoons of DEI wastrels and other dead weight.

  14. Ghostpatzer

Mornin’, reprobates! Who are the “fine people”?

    • UnCivilServant

Just because you delight in insulting us for no good reason doesn’t mean we don’t know better.

      • Ghostpatzer

Fine. Good morning to you, sir!

      • UnCivilServant

        Good morning.

Hope things are going well with your recovery.

      • Ghostpatzer

Thanks. Had follow-up with surgeon Tuesday, I am doing better than he expected. Restricted activities for 6 more weeks, but otherwise OK.

    • Gender Traitor

      Good morning, ‘patzie!

      • Ghostpatzer

        Yo! Enjoying the holiday season?

      • Gender Traitor

It’s been very quiet so far, as we won’t see my siblings until Saturday when we meet at a nearby restaurant. And we almost always do New Year’s Eve at home so…still quiet. So to answer your question – Yes! 🙂

      • Ghostpatzer

Noice! We’ll be getting an early dinner at a sushi joint on NYE, then home for the night. Gotta check out the Times Sq. festivities, maybe some pro-Palestine “protestors” will show up. Must-watch TV.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

There aren’t any, this is a hive of scum and villainy. You may as well be hanging out in Bermuda with Blackbeard’s crew.

    • Ghostpatzer

And used cars are 5 figures. You will use public transportation and like it, kids. No cars for you!

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Even the entry level cars from most manufacturers are ridiculous now. Please bring back a modern Toyota Tercel.

      • Not Adahn

It has no backup camera! You want toddlers to get killed?!?!

      • UnCivilServant

It’s the parents’ responsibility to watch their children.

      • Not Adahn

That’s the POINT! How are they going to watch them without backup cameras? Or protect them without sufficient airbags? Or keep them from getting motion sickness without gyro-stabilized holographic entertainment systems and advanced automatic transmission and preemptive deceleration braking assistance? Or find their school without satnav?

If it saves JUST ONE LIFE then adding $25k of mandatory equipment is worth it!

example 2,035,790,832,934 of why big government is bad for us

I think this is the only hope: to collect and calmly share all the ways that government is a net evil in our lives. I think we should list and share these over and over.

it’s also example 2,035,790,832,934 of why party B and president B are no better than party A and president A: when B had the White House and both houses, not a single whit more was done to undo the nonsense

The weapon has also become a staple of American culture, being included in rap songs by the Wu-Tang Clan, Tupac and others, and seen in films and television shows wielded by actors such as Arnold Schwarzenegger.

It has also been present in the United States gun crisis, being used in mass shootings, with the Violence Policy Center stating in a 2022 report that the weapon has been in the arsenals of “some of the most infamous mass shooters in the United States.”

Cho Seung-hui was armed with a Glock when he killed 32 people and injured more than a dozen others when he went on a shooting spree at Virginia Tech in 2007. Jared Lee Loughner used a Glock to shoot 18 people, six fatally, in 2011 as he attempted to assassinate Rep. Gabby Giffords. And Dylann Roof used a Glock in his fatal shooting of nine people at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., in 2015.

When I write obituaries, I always reach out to antagonistic activist groups. My pre-written Bibi obit quotes extensively from CAIR and Al Sharpton.
