Ugly Sweater Cats

by | Dec 19, 2023 | Fun, Open Post, Welcome to the Party | 91 comments

Strut, strut, turn to the left…

I had an ugly sweater Christmas party this season and it was quite the success.  All the cats dressed up. If you are seeing this article, it is because the site is running short on content.  Help out, or I will strike again!

Coconut wears a fetching sweater from the Petco collection 2023.

“Your Present is in the Litterbox.” Showing off the back of the sweater while pining for the Fjords.

Ollie shows off the back of his sweater. Headwear by YZZAG, a random Chinese company on Amazon.

No cats were harmed in this photoshoot.

A call out to last years’ article on cat-proofing your Christmas tree.

Enjoy this open post.  Also, if you have any article ideas, post away!  They have to be better than this.

    X-mas kittehs!

    • The Hyperbole

Those cats would murder RJ in a second if they had the chance.

      • R.J.

Those cats loved it, and cuddles with me. They liked belly scratches when the sweaters came off.

      • slumbrew

Aren’t you supposed to be cruising on a cruise?

      • R.J.

        I am. I got a data package.

      • Mojeaux, font of all evil

You can get those through your mobile provider, too. Like, $50-100 unlimited for the cruise.

      • slumbrew

Ah, sweet. With those OnlyFans bucks, that data package will pay for itself.

      • ron73440

They liked belly scratches when the sweaters came off.

As they plotted how to kill you all.

      • Gustave Lytton

Yeah, but they do that anyways.

      • Fatty Bolger

Sure, but they’re too lazy to actually go through with it.

  2. kinnath

Your cats would kill you and eat you if they were bigger.

    • Bobarian LMD

      Or you were smaller.

  3. Gender Traitor

I’ve linked to pics of black cats under Christmas trees before, so I’ll take this opportunity to link to a pic of Little Black Cat in his new hidey-hole: https://imgur.com/a/ZnD4nzs

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Flairt.

    • UnCivilServant

I’ve met him – he’s not so little.

      • Gender Traitor

Yeah, he’s gotten even bigger since then.

        That’s a full-sized tent. 😳

      • UnCivilServant

But… that’s your couch in the background.

    • ron73440

      That’s awesome.

The bottom picture makes me miss Choco, our black cat that would get a few ornamets every year.

Never bothered us, I figured it was how she celebrated Christmas.

I like cats, but I am definitely more of a dog person.

Unfortunately, my large Siberian Husky puppy has made his mission to chase our cat to the point the poor thing is scared to come downstairs.

We are working on training and he can sit, lay down, and stay quite well.

Until he sees the cat and then I might as well not be there.

    • ron73440

      Here is the aforementioned Choco.

We named her Chocolate originally because when she was a kitten, she was the color of milk chocolate.

…and grew up to be DARK chocolate! 😋

The stray cat I occasionally feed sardines has been joined by a larger companion. They get most of their food from my next-door neighbor, I think. I was wondering if I should take them to the vet for rabies shots.

I like animals, I just don’t want to share the same living space as them. I suppose at some point, my wife or kids will demand a dog/cat. I’d prefer to wait until the kids are old enough to play with and take care of a pet.

Also, I will be adding new content to submissions pile to help alleviate the content drought. It may be time for Florida Man, Part 3.

    • Toxteth O'Grady

You seem to be good with pythons.

    Outrageous

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) vowed Monday to work to block the $14.9 billion sale of U.S. Steel Corp. to Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel, which he described as an “outrageous” move.

The deal was announced Monday, prompting the stock prices of U.S. Steel to jump up 25 percent. Fetterman criticized the sale, saying in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that the move was “wrong for workers and wrong for Pennsylvania.”

    ——-

“This is yet another example of hard-working Americans being blindsided by greedy corporations willing to sell out their communities to serve their shareholders. I stand with the men and women of the Steelworkers and their union way of life,” he said in his statement.

    Workers of the world, unite.

We should nationalize it, for national security reasons, and turn it over the union to run. They’ll know what to do.

    • slumbrew

There’s the Fetterlump we’ve come to expect.

      • Sensei

I thought the same when I read that today.

It’s this century’s version of “Flowers for Algernon”.

      • Drake

I call Fetterfake – he’s way too coherent.

    • B.P.

Say, what is this “X” thing I keep hearing about? Wait, is that the platform formerly known as Twitter?

    • Bobarian LMD

I recall in the ’80s reading about Nippon Steel buying Iron ore in Pittsburgh, shipping it to Japan, making it into steel, then shipping it back to Pittsburgh and selling it across the street from US Steel for about 25% less than they were charging.

      I wonder why that was?

      • Sensei

In the early 1980s, the yen typically traded somewhere between 200 and 270 per dollar.1 But in September 1985, the world’s major Western economies gathered in New York and decided to devalue the dollar, an agreement known as the Plaza Accord.2 The Plaza Accord set off a strengthening trend in the yen for the next decade, ending with the exchange rates reaching nearly 80 yen to the dollar.1 That’s an astonishing 184% appreciation in the yen’s value.

      • juris imprudent

Probably a similar reason to why Nucor would hire former union labor but never former steel management.

  7. Bobarian LMD

This was Vinnie. My daughter and Son-in-Law’s cat. He is close to 17 in this pic. He could have played the live version of Bill in Bloom County.

I thought for sure that he was going to outlive us all, despite feline HIV, no teeth, and never, EVER, grooming himself.

You could smell him from 10 feet away and he was a friendliest, most lovable cat you ever saw.

He went out into the cold last week and never came back.

    • Gender Traitor

      Awwww! RIP, Vinnie! 😿

    • ron73440

17 is pretty good for a cat.

Or was he older than that when he left?

      • Bobarian LMD

At least 17 when he went out, assuming he was just over a year when they got him.

    • Sean

      Awwww

    • B.P.

      That’s a bad-ass cat. Come back, Vinnie!

    • R C Dean

Some animals just know when its time. I had an older pit bull who came down with cancer. One day she just went off to a corner of the yard and laid down. Wouldn’t get up. We finally coaxed her back into the house. A couple of days later, she was gone.

  8. The Late P Brooks

    Ok Harry S Truman.

John Fetterman: ultra MAGA racist xenophobe

  9. The Late P Brooks

This just popped into my head:

Since that fateful December day in which Captain William Fetterman, two civilians, and 78 officers and
men were annihilated in the present-day state of Wyoming, culpability has rested entirely with that officer.
The oft- reason for this disastrous result is that Fetterman was effectively a reckless officer that
dismissed out-of-hand the martial capabilities of warriors from the Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapahoe tribes.
This derogatory opinion therefore, led to his leading the task force placed under his command on
December 21, 1866 into an ambush and wholescale death to every soldier and civilian.

Any relation to the esteemed Senator from Pennsylvania?

    • creech

? but the Senator hasn’t lost yet.

  10. B.P.

I’m getting some new neighbors. This is the first I’m hearing of it.

    https://denverite.com/2023/12/18/denver-mullen-home-migrant-shelter-lease/

The property was basically a convalescent home for a dwindling number of nuns, until it closed recently. I recall TOS prattling on at length about “immigrants, illegal or otherwise, pay taxes!”, “they’re a net economic benefit”, etc. That last part may be true on a long enough timeline, but…

“Since the crisis first began in mid-December of 2022, Denver has spent more than $35 million serving more than 31,000 migrants coming through Denver. Earlier this month, the city hired more than 200 people to staff migrant shelters.” ……. “According to recent data from the city, approximately 3,100 new migrant students have enrolled in Denver Public Schools.” …….. “Sandoval helped gather $330,000 from different City Council offices to support migrant families.” …………. “The city will cover utilities, maintenance and repairs at the cost of $1.5 million.” Etc.

My mind can’t help but connect all of this with dwindling city services, but that’s probably just my lizard brain acting all racist. I’ve noticed a lot of right wing-types chafing at the new preferred term “migrant” instead of, say, “illegal immigrant.” I’ve come around to migrant being the proper term, because they will be in the U.S. forever.

    • UnCivilServant

Go Killdozer on the building before they can move anyone in.

Or after, but make sure you add flamerthrowers if you do that.

    • R C Dean

“TOS prattling on at length about “immigrants, illegal or otherwise, pay taxes!”, “they’re a net economic benefit”, etc.”

A result that can only be achieved by conflating legal and illegal immigrants. They played the same trick with crime rates.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

They are a net benefit because the aid money spent on them is all spent in the US. It’s like the aid to Ukraine in that way.

      • B.P.

The aid also allows them to send whatever day labor money they make back to their home countries.

    • Gustave Lytton

It’s illegal alien, not illegal immigrant.

Migrant implies that they will return to their native country. Same with temporary or asylum.

      • B.P.

I take “migrant” to mean permanently relocating. Which they are.

      • slumbrew

        “invader”

    • juris imprudent

TOS never, ever seems to consider that immigrants aren’t libertarian. Hell, we can’t even get enough native-born to belly up to leaving other people alone – and yet they expect that of people from cultures that absolutely can’t conceive of that?

    • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

blech. I was half right, I knew it would have a mask, but I was hoping for a snowman you could push over.

  11. Shpip

My wee cat Fartacus spends most of her time in our guest bedroom, staring out the window. For a few weeks every year, though, she wanders into the living room and parks herself under the Christmas tree.

The one on the right is Murry, and boy does he ever. Never seen a cat so brave, so stupid.

Alright, I’l slap some editing on my next post and get it in. Geez.

Tanya Jones’ husband, also named John Jones — the grandfather of four of the victims — is a fire inspector at the Bullhead City Fire Department, according to LinkedIn.

Because of that link, the local departmenft will not be involved in the ongoing investigation. Police will be assisted by the Lake Havasu City Fire Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. An exact cause of the fire has yet to be revealed.

I did not catch the ATF as first responder.

      • Sensei

“First responders at the scene were assisted by neighbors who saw the fire.”

      • kinnath

That looks like an editorial fuckup. Those guys are equipped like first responders putting out a fire or rescuing victims. They look like investigators to me.

      • kinnath

        are not equipped . . . .

    The Cat’s Diary
    Day 983 of My Captivity

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength.

The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates my capabilities. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a “good little hunter” I am.

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of “allergies.” I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow, but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released, and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously a moron. The bird must be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now…

Ahem, just came in from throwing the ball for the dog.

Slavery! Some day soon the cats will demand reparations.

I shall sing the song of my people

    • Shpip

      Pretty much.

The Obama administration had noticed that a certain demographic seemed to have behavioral and impulse control issues, so they sent a “Dear Colleague” letter to urban school districts. Broward County’s school superintendent (a hack from Chicago) and the school board (a toxic mix of AWFLs and diversity hires) interpreted that to mean “don’t arrest minorities.” And since Nikolas Cruz has a Hispanic surname….

    • kinnath

      so special

Little AA time and disability it will all be fine.

People used to stand out on street corners and scream stupid shit to the world.

      Now, they’re on social media.

No cats were harmed in this photoshoot.

OTOH, the cat’s owners received multiple scratches and had to go to the emergency room.
