IFLA: the “Cruise Control” Edition of the Horoscope for the Week of March 3

by | Mar 3, 2024 | IFLA | 152 comments

One of you two need to make the first move.

For Pisces, what’s it like being represented by fish?  I guess this can also go to Pie since in his culture he’s also represented by unintelligent foodstuff.  At least Scorpio gets a bit of danger and badassery associated with it.

This week, there’s not much to say. The skies of are empty until Saturday, and that day is actually pretty good. The focus will be on Venus, so it’s a good day for Venus-related activities. Enjoy. Otherwise, this week is very much the same as last.

Pisces: Queen of Swords reversed – Malice, bigotry, artifice, prudery, bale, deceit.

Aries: The Devil – Ravage, violence, vehemence, extraordinary efforts, force, fatality.

Taurus: Page of Wands reversed – Anecdotes, announcements, evil news. Also indecision and the instability which accompanies it.

Gemini: 3 of Cups reversed – Expedition, dispatch, achievement, end. It signifies also the side of excess in physical enjoyment, and the pleasures of the senses.

Cancer: Strength reversed – Despotism, abuse of power, weakness, discord, disgrace.

Leo: 9 of Cups – Concord, contentment, physical bien-être; also victory, success, advantage; satisfaction.

Virgo: 9 of Swords – Death, failure, miscarriage, delay, deception, disappointment, despair.

Libra: 8 of Swords – Bad news, violent chagrin, crisis, censure, power in trammels, conflict, calumny; also sickness.

Scorpio: The High Priestess – Secrets, mystery, the future as yet unrevealed, silence, tenacity; mystery, wisdom, science.

Sagittarius: 3 of Swords – Removal, absence, delay, division, rupture, dispersion

Capricorn: 5 of Wands – Imitation, competition, struggle, gold, gain, opulence.

Aquarius: The Emperor – Shaddam IV.

I’d offer to swap but neither of us would gain… Ravage, violence, vehemence, extraordinary efforts, force, fatality.

      • dbleagle

Yep. Just another week for Aries.

      • rhywun

        inorite 🙄

        I read it completely differently

      • rhywun

Ha. Aries do that at their own peril.

Sounds like I’m in for a visit to the ER.

Taurus: Page of Wands reversed – Anecdotes, announcements, evil news. Also indecision and the instability which accompanies it.

I don’t know what to think about that.

Good thing you’re hair is already done.

what is the official glibertarian position on petting dogs if you don’t know the owner? seems rude one one had but some of them are cute and seem happy for the attention (i am talking about dogs in yards i pass on the street)

    • Gustave Lytton

Reaching into someone else’s yard, whether it’s for a pet, taking a flower, or picking a fruit crosses the line. If you get bit or shot, that’s on you.

Dog that comes up to you on the street? If the owner isn’t attached to a leash, pet away at your own risk. If it’s leashed and under control, ask first.

      • Gustave Lytton

Same with chatting. If it runs up to your or along the fenceline, nice doggie all you want. Calling , instigating, or provoking? No.

      • PieInTheSky

i don’t do it but sometimes want to when the dog is all happy and wagging.

      • PieInTheSky

also you dont get shot in Romania we are not barbarians we do not have guns.

      • R.J.

        Just sabres and wooden stakes?

      • Aloysious

Y’all do have sharp pointy teeth.

      • Suthenboy

To woman in grocery store with a French bulldog in her cart: I got her attention, pointed to the dog and asked “May I?”
The little booger growled a little at me when I ver y slowly. reached to pet it. since I had the back of my hand to it the little snip she gave me did little damage, barely drawing blood.
I did not flinch and laughed a little. “Well, I won’t bother her, poor little thing.”
Being good natured about it the woman relaxed. I thought she was going to throw me in her cart at that point.
She was a thirtyish divorce’ stereotype in life.
Sigh….if only I were not married and head over heels in love with my wife….

    • rhywun

My position is always ask first.

And my question is usually something like “Are you friendly?” directed at the dog, cuz I don’t wanna get bit.

      • rhywun

*It doesn’t always yield the correct answer

      • Tres Cool

If you didn’t link that I was going to.

  8. Gustave Lytton

From the dedthred, in addition to assimilation of current foreigners, there needs to be an end to the anti-Americanism/guilt/grievance mongering indoctrination. That the immigration fraud from Somalia can continue to serve in congress spewing her tripe is exhibit A against any relaxing of borders.

    • PieInTheSky

I’ll pour a shot of rare breed in remembrance

      • Fourscore

The turkeys were never this far north….’til one day the DNR got involved. Now we have lots of them. So far I like them, they come everyday to feed under the bird feeders. Some folks have ‘special’ licenses and sort of chase them away but occasionally not all. Couple years ago there were several toms that would race to meet me and run around my feet in the event that I carelessly spilled some corn.

    • Animal

She’s a flautist. Because of course she is.

I heard she entered a tongue-twister competition; the judges gave her a tough sentence. That may or may not be true. It’s hard to say.

      • Fourscore

Did the judge get a lashing for that?

    • rhywun

Eww. Gross shit like that used to in the book before they dumbed it down.

Snowing for third day in a row. Still on the warm side, so not sticking except in the open where it can build up a bit before melting. Think I’ll go to the hardware store this morning.

Whole chicken on the Weber being smoked. Third week in a row and working great.

    • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

After 3 weeks, wouldn’t it be a little tough? 😉

    Top notch business journalism

The entire YouTube Music team is out of a job as tensions rise at Google parent company, Alphabet.

The Alphabet Workers Union, which represents workers at Google’s parent company, Alphabet, said Google laid off the YouTube Music team on Friday.

Some of the Alphabet workers found out about the layoff while they were speaking at an Austin City Council meeting in Texas, where the city council was set to vote on a resolution asking the company to negotiate with the union.

    ——-

In a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, the union said the YouTube Music team was based out of Austin, and was receiving such low pay that some members were working multiple jobs to make ends meet.

“Even as workers contribute to the success of the billion dollar platform, they are paid as little as $19 dollars an hour and receive minimal benefits,” the union said.

    ——-

Cognizant, a professional services company that Alphabet contracted the YouTube Music team through, said in a statement that the workers were let go after their contract ended at its intended date, according to KXAN in Austin.

They’re not even Google employees, apparently. But don’t let that stop you from accusing Google of union busting.

    • LCDR_Fish

The twitter was hilarious. Some dumbass is complaining to the city council about their job status live at a meeting and a coworker comes up and tells him on the air that they’ve all been fired. Then there’s a separate article that says they were actually contractors all along and apparently never checked the contract end date.

      • Gustave Lytton

Some contract employees are hyper aware of end dates. Others aren’t, particularly if the contract gets renewed all the time or the new contractor picks up the existing contractees.

Cav973 – missed your post last night. Definitely not getting out of 40k – although I might be moving sooner than expected. I’ve got a ton of the Tyranids Army from buying a lot of 10th ed intro boxes – mostly for the Space Marines – I’ve traded/sold most of the Tyranids to a work buddy – but I’m not interested in the army. My main focus is the Marines, followed by the Votann (space dwarves) – I also have a ton of Necrons (egyptian terminator robots) models I may or may not sell in the near future.

    • cavalier973

Do you go to tournaments, or do you live in an area where it is east to find a game?

      • LCDR_Fish

I’ve played all of one game with my work buddy. ;p

Planning for another game next weekend. We both started around the same time last August, but between work schedules – my travel, etc – we’ve been sunk in the building/painting stuff. Still haven’t made as much progress as I’d like, but it’s a fun hobby just like that. Eventually once I get most of my units where I like them, I’ll probably look more at other games – I think there are a number of stores in the Fredericksburg area that offer tournament type options – also Charlottesville, etc. Haven’t done a lot of research yet. Need to get more comfortable with at least the fundamentals.

      • Ted S.

Obviously, with that link, I don’t know.

      • LCDR_Fish

Thought I had it working. Maybe I need to look for monocle again…it’s a pain trying to do this manually: Link

Will back up that the 2nd Dune movie is pretty good. Caught it yesterday (rewatched part one on Prime – for $3.99 – on Friday night). Ending was still a little off – not as much closure as I recall from the book but it’s been a hot minute.

    • rhywun

I don’t remember an ending in the book and I’ve read the damn thing like four times since I was a kid.

      • LCDR_Fish

It’s been a while. I know Dune Messiah picks up after a bit, but I think Lynch’s ending was a little tighter than this one.

  14. juris imprudent

Got 10-12 quarts of spaghetti sauce simmering away, a little for dinner tonight, the rest for the freezer.

    • Toxteth O'Grady

You moost haf an enormous Suppentoft.

        *has young Teri Garr flashback*

        Thank you for that.

      • rhywun

        More complicated*

        OMG that is nuts

      • juris imprudent

Agreed, my recipe falls in between those two – [waves hands] a little more than easy, a little less than complicated.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

I understand it’s usually garlic or onion for the italiani, but not both. Depends which province, I suppose.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Garlic is obviously easier than onion, but I have never known it to melt à la Goodfellas.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        I criminalize onions too often.

      • Ted S.

I hate turning my onions into delinquents, too. :-p

        (Gotta love auto-correct.)

      • juris imprudent

Mama Scorsese’s had onion and garlic (although the garlic, carrots and potato were removed before serving).

      • Toxteth O'Grady

And I don’t do autocorrect. Auto-suggest, sure. Gotta keep up with you all.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Che cosa è? You-a no love your famiglia?

      • rhywun

Mi famiglia è tedesca i limeya. Pas de tomatos.

      • juris imprudent

Managed it in the one pot, usually I am using two – dialed it back a bit this time.

Yeah baby, I can hit that g-spot, just gotta rotate you a little.

  16. Yusef drives a Kia

Jeez what a day. Disc golf in wet rainy conditions, then I filled in as starter for the busiest course in the US, under horrible conditions. Everyone had a great time even with the storms, and many beers were consumed.
    What a life,

  17. Mojeaux

76F today when it should be half that. The mourning doves are out already.

    • juris imprudent

Crocus have broken through the ground here, along with some other signs of spring. It’s got to be twenty years now since the St. Patrick’s Day blizzard.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

My strawberries are ripening and tomatoes are fruiting,
      Enjoy the Midwest

  18. pistoffnick

    Last night’s dinner was:
    buttermilk marinated fried chicken
cauliflower, bacon, cheese, sunflower seed salad
    hash-brown casserole
and my walnut cake with brown butter-cream frosting.

    • UnCivilServant

I honestly couldn’t tell you what last night’s dinner was. I just put on tonight’s dinner. It’s beef.

    • prolefeed

Had French toast on Mrs Prole’s homemade sourdough. And ham. Mmmm.

  19. Gustave Lytton

First glass of homemade umeshu. Tastes pretty much like Choya’s. A little higher ABR because a) rhite ricker isn’t generally available around here so used neutral grain spirits diluted down, b) erred on the higher side to keep the batch from spoiling.

I’ve stockpiled rock sugar for next year (this year). Just need more jars and fruit. Think I might try cane sugar vodka as well.

    • UnCivilServant

“cane sugar vodka” is just white rum.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

Spoilsport, build some and get back to us.

      • Gustave Lytton

I would think white rum is going to have a bit more rummy flavor vs neutral.

      • CPRM

We all know Kane Sugar is street code for Nuke.

      • Sean

        Yes x 2.

      • Sean

You are free to be wrong.

Is your used motor oil drop off spot still open?

      • UnCivilServant

Glad to know if I ever were wrong.

Keep your used oil away from here.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, Sean, U, and Stinky!

      • Gender Traitor

How’s it going so far today?

      • UnCivilServant

I hope I’ve corrected my sleep schedule because for the past however many days I was awake from midnight to 4-5pm.

      • Gender Traitor

I hope so, too. Either that or that you still have a lot of Dew. 😳

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

A corrupt shit candidate for a currupt shit place…maybe she can use the accumulated money from her sucker doners to run for mayor.

She should celebrate by taking an evening stroll through Anacostia.

  20. Grosspatzer, Superstar

    Mornin’, reprobates!

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, ‘patzie! How’s everything & everyone in your corner of the world?

      • Grosspatzer, Superstar

Hey there! Trying to get adjusted to retirement. Not official until the Ides of March (really. What was I thinking?), but nothing to do. Mrs. P’s annual mammo was a bit off, biopsy coming soon. Doc doesn’t seem too concerned, but it’s a little tense right now. How are you and TT doing?

      • Gender Traitor

Hangin’ in there. TT has a check-up with our GP this morning…after just starting up a new round of treatment & visits with his urologist. Never a dull moment. 🙄

      • R.J.

Hello there, retired person! I am… not retired.

    • Sean

      🙂

  21. UnCivilServant

    🙁

I just want to go to my hobby room and finish painting the Avatar of Khaine. But the workday started.

  22. Not Adahn

    Good morning!

Dune 2 is better than part 1 was.

Yes, Denny added a giant [insert sequel here], but he did at least do it within context of the book lore. Where Herbert mentioned things in passing, Denny explicitly kicks off the Jihad.

Yes, modern audiences bait is totally there. This version of Chani values being a stronk independent woman what don’t need no man more than her own lying eyes. They’ll either have to change her character going forward or write a new plot.

But even with those gripes, I enjoyed this one a lot more than part 1. During P1, I kept thinking “this is really beautiful, but I’m kind of bored.” In P2 I actively enjoyed watching what was going on.

  23. Not Adahn

I guess it’s not too surprising there are no Aquariuses here. There’s only three commentators and all of them are Aries.

    • Grosspatzer, Superstar

      Gemini here, he said sheepishly.

    • UnCivilServant

I don’t tell people when my birthday is.

      • Not Adahn

I’ve been able to figure out a few by people posting their celebrations. Like I know that the late lamented Tundra’s is a prime numberin a month that was added by the Romans.

  24. Fourscore

Morning All, I’d have been here earlier but dumped a cup of coffee on my keyboard. Damnit!

Anyway, all seems to be working.

    • UnCivilServant

As long as they’re dried off and not operated wet, keyboards are resilient to moisture.

      • Fourscore

        Thanks, UCS!

    Mornin’ all!

    • Gender Traitor

      Good morning, Beau & 4(20)!
