Fairly salacious poster from the Brits for 1963!

Kiss of the Vampire

A Hammer Horror film tonight! I do enjoy this one because it doesn’t really follow the well-trod path of traditional vampires.ย  These vampires can run around in the day, for example.

In typical British Hammer Studios style, we have phenomenal sets, actual vintage cars, great parties and wonderfulย  Eastman Color. And boy does this movie RIP!ย  From the first five minutes, you get a shock and some bright red Hammer blood. Before you know it, vampires are everywhere and the rubber bats from Woolworth’s department store are flapping around on strings.ย  I don’t really want to spoil anything, I want you to enjoy this so I will refrain from spoilers.ย  Hopefully nobody has been haunting the Universal Monsters channel lately on streaming – they copped this about the time I chose to show it.ย  The fiends!

So watch!ย  Or don’t! Everything is voluntary until a flock of rubber denizens of the underworld leak bright red paint on your clothes! Next week, we have a nice find – a modern Irish vampire film entitled Let the Wrong One In.

Help!ย  Plex is a strange thing and I don’t know what to do!

Yes, this is a different streaming service from our usual.ย  PLEX doesn’t seem to ask you any membership questions.ย  I haven’t really done a commercial content comparison, but I can imagine there are more on average than TUBI.ย  Should you have any issues with PLEX, or gripes about it, our helpful Glib technicians are standing by to assist you. BY ASSIST MEAN…

“Fairly salacious poster from the Brits for 1963!”

    Brits were always into boobs.

    • dbleagle

There were a fair number who didn’t. Shockingly not all were in the RN.

      • Common Tater

There is no cannibalism in the Royal Navy!

    • Cunctator

      I must be a Brit.

  2. Common Tater

“a modern Irish vampire film entitled Let the Wrong One In”

The Swedish Let The Right One In is great. The remake is crap.

    • R.J.

Agreed. This is not a remake. It is only related by the fact there are vampires in both.

  3. R.J.

I think the hidden Private Snafu film has a snafu. If anyone else has problems let me know.

    • Common Tater

I downloaded it because I didn’t know if Plex would work. When I tried Pluto it kept getting stuck. No problems with Tubi or YouTube.

      • Ted S.

Yeah, I recently watched Attack on Pluto. On my Roku it played fine, but when I switched to my browser it had a lot of problems.

      • Common Tater

The TV isn’t even hooked up to the internet. I figure TCL is full of spyware. So I go HDMI out of my laptop.

      • Ted S.

The Roku boxes are. When we moved, our newest TV was still from before Mom died, so I decided on Roku boxes to make certain every TV had the same interface. Also cheaper than buying new TVs.

      • R.J.

Any smart device could spy on you. The Smart TV panic was started by a government investigation which turned up nominal evidence that your watching habits could be monitored. Of the TV brands, TCL took the most steps to minimize this risk. And of those, the Roku version went even further, at one point banning YouTube for their invasive program that once installed would scan all your other apps and selections to derive suggestions. That is when I decided it is more an issue of what apps do once on your TV or smart box, than it is the hardware.

      • Common Tater

“Of the TV brands, TCL took the most steps to minimize this risk.”

I have trouble believing a Chinese TV is less spyish than a Japanese or Korean TV.

        Also, Google is assho.

      • R.J.

        Yes. Google is assho.

    • Gender Traitor

I’m just irrationally proud that I figured out how to turn off my ad blocker so the vampire movie would play!

      • Common Tater

        UR L33T Haxxor!

      • R.J.

Nice! I will say that Plex seems to have more ads than TUBI. I was fifteen minutes in and got hit buy 7 ads. Still, it expands our content horizons.

      • Ted S.

The last two movies I watched on Tubi had 10-12 minutes of ads with a ~80-minute move. Pluto seems like it has more ads, but still less than traditional TV.

      • R.J.

It’s a tossup now. What I find irritating is now Netflix and Amazon, who charge money for their ad-free services, will start showing ads. If you are paying cash, why watch ads? I think it will drive people away from pay services, not make them more fond of them.

      • PutridMeat

        got hit buy 7 ads

        Hmmm

      • R.J.

Heh. At least they have better ads. I just saw that Hilton ad where people went to stay at the creepy bed and breakfast full of dolls on the bed.

I keep getting HealthCare.gov. Over and over again. ๐Ÿ˜’

      • R.J.

        Ugh.

  4. Gender Traitor

It’s a vampire cult!!! (I’m running way behind.)

  5. Gender Traitor

Pretty good gaslighting for folks in a house with just candles and torches.

I am thinking of making a run at becoming a Hollywood mogul. With all of the reboots, I thought I could pitch a reboot of First Blood, with Rambo as a gender and race-swapped veteran of a deployment to Wyoming where she faced racist and exist deplorables, making her battle hardened.

We move the bigoted sheriff to a small Mississippi town, and after Rambo kills off half the town, the FBI comes in and shuts down the local PD for systemic racism and appoints a trans-woman who recently immigrated from Haiti as sheriff. Maybe we throw in a lesbian love interest back story with the Army liason they bring in to assist…

Whaddaya think? Would they go for it? Or do we need to punch it up a bit?

    • R.J.

      GENIUS!

      • R.J.

Now the real fun will be that you pitch it, get the money and leave. You don’t even have to make the film, just issue cryptic memos to newspapers about the status of the film for a year or two, then stop. PURE PROFIT!

    • dbleagle

I believe the hollywood types would think you are pitching a dream documentary.

    • creech

Will be a bigger smash than “Springtime for Hitler.”

    • Gustave Lytton

British Hammer Studios? I thought this was somehow going to be in The Hebrew Hammer universe.

    • Gustave Lytton

Judy Greer stripped naked on an altar..,wait, what?

  8. Brochettaward

    Tomorrow is America’s Firster’s Day.

    • Chafed

I’ll bite. Why is Firster’s Day on the 17th?

    • Chafed

The Tubi app is on Tubi?

      • slumbrew

That links to Carolla’s “Hammer” for me. But I have the app installed.

      • Chafed

        Show off

  9. Aloysious

    I love Hammer Horror.

I have an adult beverage, Southern Comfort lemonade, and will nowenjoy.

    Thanksm RJ.

    • Aloysious

Hum. I now see the adult beverage has kicked in. Maybe some grub…

    • Gustave Lytton

That sounds good. 1:1 or different ratio? I haven’t had a bottle of SC in years.

  10. Gustave Lytton

Went to Total Wine today. What a shock. Wallet also took a shock.

    • Chafed

      It’s my happy place.

Did they have any Colonel EH Taylor in stock?

      Mornin’

    • Gender Traitor

      Good morning, U and Sean!

      • Gender Traitor

Better now that I have my coffee. Pretty yawny this morning, but caffeine will help. How are you?

      • UnCivilServant

I hope I can make it through the workday, and will probably end up burning the weekend to fix my sleep schedule.

If I’m using my oscilliscope properly, the watch crystal signal on the current clock is a mess.

        Big if.

I also want to just write something, but my workday is a half hour from starting.

      • Gender Traitor

How fast could you write some flash fiction?

      • UnCivilServant

        I tend to overthink things.

Today we have the story of my like as told by Radiohead

    Fitter, Happier

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

A pig in a cage on antibiotics? Come on, itโ€™s not that bad.

      • Beau Knott

Like a cat tied to a stick driven into frozen Winter shit

    • Gender Traitor

      Good morning, Beau!

        Mornin’ GT!

    • UnCivilServant

What nerve the sun has being up in the sky at this hour.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, JI! It can’t be as bad as all that – aren’t you retired, or am I misremembering that?

      • juris imprudent

I am indeed. Dogs keep insisting on waking me to alert me that the sun is rising. I’ll be better with some coffee.

      • Not Adahn

There is a cat that has decided to patrol through my yard at night. Lily does her best to scare it away from inside my house.

      • The Gunslinger

Our neighbors cat was in our yard this morning when I took the dogs out. Fortunately I had the puppy on a leash because he saw it immediately and would have tore after the cat and I’d still be trying to get him back to the house. The old lab either didn’t notice the cat or didn’t care.

      • Fourscore

There are reasons I don’t have a dog, that’s pretty high on the list. My neighbors have dogs, when I go outside I can enjoy the barking.

  12. juris imprudent

[coffee] Ah, good morning GT, NA, UCS, Sean, Stinky and Beau!

    • Gender Traitor

      There ya go! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

      • UnCivilServant

I hope this tylenol takes care of the headache I woke up with.

I didn’t even get to have any fun to deserve it.

      • Gender Traitor

Oh, dear! I hope so too! ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ Maybe too much blood in your caffeine stream?

    • Not Adahn

The ruling caste, ladies and gentlemen!

    • Fourscore

I read the whole article. That’s the way to start a morning. Usually I’m still a little sleepy, grouchy, but those ladies, for lack of a more condescending word, really got to a geezer’s heart.
Like a fight in a school parking lot but without the racism spelled out. Touched all racial borders though, what’s not to like?

  13. juris imprudent

[Honest version of headline] Colleges, police blame โ€˜outside agitatorsโ€™ for campus protests. Outside agitators say itโ€™s not so simple

You know, you can’t trust colleges to actually know who their students are.

    • rhywun

What I find much worse is that some colleges are folding to “student” demands based on protests staged by a tiny fraction of one percent of their population. What are they afraid of?

      • Not Adahn

They WANT to do what the next generation of intellectuals tell them to do. They’re AFRIAD of losing donors, so all the divestments will happen over the summer when there’s no media coverage.

      • juris imprudent

If we go by DC they are afraid they won’t be invited to the cool kids cocktail parties.

      • Fourscore

        “They” started it.

        At this point….

Someone, not involved, is going to pay for the disruption, taxpayers, the parents, the donors, the kids not participating. When the dust settles what will change? What should change?

  14. R.J.

Good morning! At least it is Friday. This week is ending.

    • Not Adahn
