Monday Morning Links

The Oilers knocked off the Stars and will face Florida in the Stanley Cup Finals. Should be a good series. The Astros suck. Real Madrid did what Real Madrid does in UCL finals. And an Audi won the 24, errr 7, Hours of Nurburgring after fog ruined everything for the Manthey Porsche. And that’s it for sports.

Oh no! I guess the radical leftists will have to see what happens when moderates, by American standards, run a country in Europe for a change.

Mexico doubles down. I guess they’re ok with the corruption, cartel violence, and overall garbage situation. They just wanted a name change at the top.

I’m shocked! Who could have ever seen this coming? Oh yeah…anybody who was paying attention and/or cared, that’s who.

This case looks pretty simple. So I’m sure they’ll manage to fuck it up somehow.

This guy ought to be in a prison cell. Or under a prison. He lied under oath so many times and evaded FOIA requests so many times that instead he’ll probably end up with a statue somewhere.

That’s a lot of coin. I wonder if Merchan will say its a sign of insurrection and decide to throw him in jail.

Wait, they’re hosting MMA events? What a strange war they have going on there. Pride parades, MMA fights, and a “war for survival” being fought by conscripts dragged off the street. Strange, strange indeed.

What a sad state of affairs. I’m curious how the state determined that every deer on the property had the disease. Or was this a case of “better safe than sorry?” Either way, it’s sad.

Here’s a beauty of a song. Just smooth as silk. And here’s another. Enjoy them both.

And enjoy this lovely Monday, dear friends.

Oh no! I guess the radical leftists will have to see what happens when moderates, by American standards, run a country in Europe for a change.

Brussels is furious that the people of the countries they are fucking over with stupid shit and unlimited immigration from a cult that neither wants to assimilate nor live in peace with the current residents, are telling them no more….

How dare these freaking serfs object to the demands of their feudal masters?

    • SDF-7

The election hasn’t happened yet. Still time for them to fortify their positions.

      • AlexinCT

They just got Geert Wilders in the Netherlands as well, after the Dutch said enough with this immigration of death cultists and campaign to stop farming to starve people, and from what I hear Brussels was ready to sick NATO on the Dutch for that.

“I mean, these are Americans who are p*ssed off, said the younger Trump. “They’re coming out of the woodwork and they want to support a guy that they just believe is getting bamboozled by a system.

“We saw it with Impeachment one, we saw it with Impeachment two, we see it where they weaponize every liberal DA and AG across the country with one intent: To take him down, to slander him, to ruin his reputation, to try and divide his family, to try and bankrupt him, to throw him in jail, to do whatever the hell they can do,” he added.

“America sees through it. They know exactly what’s going on.”

Well, half of America anyway. The other half cheers it on, because (a) Orange Man Bad, and (b) they never read the Iron Law “Me Today, You Tomorrow.”

    • AlexinCT

The left is about power. Taking it and using it. Especially the “using it to show those they do despise that they are at the mercy of the left with power”.

      • juris imprudent

Ha, and the right isn’t? The conservatives of classical liberalism are trapped in a two-front war.

      • SDF-7

Based on the observations of my lifetime? The right seems to be about getting power and dicking around with it. Because doing things is icky or something.

Then they moved to “why get power anyway? Easier to be a permanent opposition party and fleece those who actually believe in this shit.”

      • Suthenboy

SDF-7: Yep. When I think of them I think of the jaded flamboyant Evangelists.

And they never do seem to run out of the “Why’d you bring me to this trench, anyway?” crowd…. of course, they’ve been working hard to foster them for the last 30+ years so I shouldn’t be surprised. I wonder if Merchan will say its a sign of insurrection and decide to throw him in jail.

One could certainly argue that the handling of the trial and prosecution were intended to interfere in an election. Wasn’t there a New York law about that? (I know, I know… (D)ifferent…)

  6. rhywun

While EU voters are choosing members of the European Parliament, many are making decisions based on national concerns

    How unseemly!

    • AlexinCT

International marxists, you know, the globalists, consider nationalism the root of all evil, because it gets in their way and stops their agenda of offing half of the earth’s population before turning the survivors into the serfs in a system where the credentialed elite/technocratic class rules them under feudalist rules.

It is not an accident Hitler and Nazi socialism and nationalism have been redefined as hard rightwing shit that is horribly evil, while the marxists and their death cults that have killed far more people – by a minimum of at least 3 to 1 compared to all the deaths in WWII – and have caused far more hardship to humanity, is now what they feed kids in western civilization as their best hope for a great future as part of their education curricula.

      • SDF-7

Half? You’re being overly generous today, Alex.

    run a country in Europe

Eh, the EU Parliament doesn’t exactly run any country – though it thinks it runs them all.

  9. Shpip

I guess the radical leftists will have to see what happens when moderates, by American standards, run a country in Europe for a change.

Same thing that happened over here when a 90s Democrat got elected back in ’16. The whole bureaucracy will resist, Brussels will fight tooth-and-nail against everything they try to accomplish, and he’ll get turfed out by any means necessary next election.

    • UnCivilServant

That’s why you fire every bureaucrat before each election and none are eligable for rehire.

      Government shouldn’t be a career.

*continues looking for a real job*

      • AlexinCT

        Government shouldn’t be a career.

You just pissed off a lot of life’s losers by denying them this racket…

    • juris imprudent

The irony is that the opposition is treating that 90s Democrat EXACTLY like the opposition treated another 90s Democrat.

The reason you don’t hear the Democrats saying anything at all about Bill is because 1) they don’t want to admit they are aping Gingrich and company; 2) the left that is more-or-less dominant in the contemporary party hates Bill almost as much as they hate Trump; and 3) the Republican obsession with Clinton was completely a partisan affair, whereas we now have the entire Federal apparatus at the beck and call of the DNC.

      • SDF-7

You and I remember the ’90s very, very differently apparently. The Clinton Impeachment was nowhere near the single minded malevolence directed at OMB from the beginning that I recall. (Honestly, to me this is just the culmination of what they’ve wanted to do to every Republican no matter how milquetoast… I remember well how much they hated Reagan, after all… they just have control of more levers of power and less shame now — there’s no “Newt showed them this path!” here.)

But whatever… I’ve got to go do actual work soon and there’s no way I feel like arguing this shit all morning.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

In my opinion the Clinton impeachment was payback for the way the Dems treated Clarence Thomas. If what Thomas allegedly did was bad, then what Clinton did was bad too.

      • DrOtto

Clinton demonstrably lied under oath which was an actual crime that could be proven. Should we have, in retrospect maybe not, since it wasn’t about what the original investigation was about, but it was an actual, provable crime.

      • juris imprudent

Jesus, you act like the Repubs were justified from day one. Yes, they finally found a charge that stuck – a legit one, unlike now. But they were pissed that Bill had stolen some of their political ground and they weren’t going to stand for that.

The Post previously reported on images from the first son’s laptop showing him asleep with what appears to be a crack pipe in his mouth on Oct. 8, 2018.

Hunter Biden later told The Daily Beast that the photograph depicted a meth pipe rather than a crack pipe and alleged that the picture had been staged.

Oh, that’s ok then. Gotta be super-specific on what’s being alleged, after all.

    • AlexinCT

The asshats playing goalie to prevent people from finding out how corrupt our leadership class is went from the ludicrous and evil lie peddled by all these crooks that “It’s a Russian op to paint the Bidens in a negative light” to the Clinton defense that “It’s evil to show this poor guy’s dick picks, since this stuff is a private matter”, and they did all that without even a hint of irony.

      • juris imprudent

That’s why the sequential Biden trials are going to be far worse for Joe than the glorious conviction of The Donald.

      • AlexinCT

Putting Biden behind bars will not be as important as exposing the criminality of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John Brennan, Eric Holder, James Clapper, Victoria Nuland, Valerie Jarret, and a host of other Obama crooks. Biden has always been their fall guy during Obama’s third term. And if these people end up making big rocks into small ones or printing license plates, that will be some justice.

And we do not need to wait to do this. Republican state AGs should be filing charges in every red district/municipality against this cabal. The democrats already set the precedent that this is the new way to go. And believe me, these democrats have enough crimes amongst them, that they will really be looking at jail time…

    • sloopyinca

I wonder if the prosecutors will do a Brad Pitt from Sleepers show and fuck it up bad enough for the defense to win an acquittal. Or will the local jury end up being the ones who inexplicably let him off the hook?

Either way, I think it somehow ends with an acquittal or a pleading down to a lesser charge halfway through if things aren’t going well.

      • SDF-7

    Holy monetizing Gaia!

If not stopped, on November 17th, the U.S. government will pass a rule that allows for America’s protected lands, including parks and wildlife refuges, to be listed on the N.Y. Stock Exchange. Natural Asset Companies (NACs) will be owned, managed, and traded by companies like BlackRock, Vanguard, and even China.

Since the early 2000’s, outfits like Goldman Sachs have been trying to trade air, or specifically carbon without much success. Their 2005 carbon exchange staggered along until it was quietly discontinued, and their Climate Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) is now facing delisting. “ESG” was the next attempt to monetize the un-monetizable, with the “E” part of that acronym standing for Environment, ill-defined as that was. Now ESG is failing. Market leaders say it is facing “a perfect storm of negative sentiment” and its U.S. investments fell by $163 billion in the first quarter of 2023 alone.

    • sloopyinca

All that federal land should be listed for auction on a federal database for two weeks and sold off in 5 acre or smaller parcels to the highest bidder, with mineral rights attached.

The money raised can be used to retire some of the federal debt.

      • AlexinCT

Be careful what you ask for…

They might give you this, then promptly after they have sold this land, bring in this wealth tax on property gains before you actually sell they are peddling as a means to rob the American people (and especially the enemies of the state) blind.

Day…whatever – “Masks dont work. They just dont. We have known this for over 100 years. They dont fuckin’ work, period. Social distancing? 6 feet for the cooties that they claim you can get from someone on the other side of a grocery aisle? Really, what the fuck are these people on about? Now we have to close down schools, businesses, churches and the only people allowed to gather are leftist mobs?
Ooooooooh, I get it. This isn’t about the cooties at all. Am I having some kind of bizarre hallucination, or is this real?”

      • Fatty Bolger

The mask thing just kills me. Dozens of randomized clinical trials BEFORE covid showed they don’t work for viruses, and more afterwards just confirmed it. And yet you would be branded “anti-science” and banned from social media if you said masks don’t work.

      • AlexinCT

For me the WTF first movement was the combination of natural immunity won’t work and masks and arbitrary distance will save you that gave me the double take. And I had already had the Kung Flu Alpha version before this shit show happened (picked it up while traveling internationally, and infected my entire doctor’s office because my only symptom was an annoying hacking cough that was killing my throat).

Then I became certain this was all a charade, and an evil one, when saint Floyd from Minnesoda’s death suddenly inoculated all the rioters and looters from the Kung flu and the media did a 180 and told us social justice made all the screeching of the last few months about killing grandma moot.

      • Nephilium

Around that time, the state ordered all deer to be killed, either by euthanasia or at night by gunfire, but Williams rejected those options.

Didn’t even need to do that.

Twelve days after their wedding, AK hunted for Adinda’s previous address after she reportedly refused to speak to his family and insisted on wearing her niqab at home.

That was when AK not only found out that Adinda’s parents were alive and well, but was told that his bride was actually a man.

He didn’t find out because his bride whipped it out. He found out because he finally decided to meet the parents, and they told him.

      • AlexinCT

12 days after the wedding? Was there no consummation? I mean, did she tell him to go for the back pussy as Borat calls it, and he said, hey that works…

  15. Stinky Wizzleteats

So what’s the over/under on Trump actually having to go to prison? I bet they’re stupid enough to do it. My money’s on whatever the max is for the charges but it’ll run concurrently, it’s why they set the sentencing for right before the convention. They hope the Reps will drop him.

    • Ownbestenemy

Judge will defer sentencing until after appeals are exhausted or won. That will be his saving face move.

      • UnCivilServant

No, I think he’s a fanatic who wants to throw the defendant behind bars before the convention and during the election no matter the cost.

      • Not Adahn

Eh, he had an excuse of jailing OMB for contempt but didn’t take it.

      • Fatty Bolger

The judge will do whatever his Democrat handlers tell him to do. So the better question is, what do they think is the most strategically advantageous thing to do?

      • Ownbestenemy

strategically advantageous My thoughts above is the most strategically sound move for Dems and the electoral votes of NY. It will take all the ads you know are being brewed up right now that will drop if the judge actually recommends prison time.

        The Ads:
Alvin Bragg let these people go and judges have recommended light sentences or none at all for violent crimes yet pushed for x amount years for a paperwork error.

      • OBJ FRANKELSON

The strategically wise move would have been not to tear down or trash the little remaining credibility of every institution in pursuit of their big orange white whale.

But that didn’t happen so who knows.

    • DrOtto

I think Biden will pardon him in an attempt to boost his sagging poll numbers and set up a pardon for Hunter.

      • Ownbestenemy

Can he though? He wasn’t charged with a federal crime.

      • AlexinCT

The Obama people running the Biden admin can ask the governor of NY to do the pardoning for him, then steal the credit.

Note that I doubt they will do this. team blue’s tactic when things fail is never to withdraw, reassess, and find another strategy, but to double the fook down…

      • R C Dean

The Biden administration that sent their No. 3 prosecutor to help with the trial? That Biden administration is going to push for a pardon?

Aside from everything else, can you imagine how their base would react?

      • Not Adahn

Can he though? He wasn’t charged with a federal crime.

Pish tosh! You probably play chess in only three dimensions.

If the conviction looks to hurt him, Biden will pre-emptively pardon Trump for the “influencing a federal election” predicate/element/whatever the legal term is, then Hochie will do her part and use that as an excuse to annul the state conviction under the power of the NY Governor to do anything they want to as long as the legislature doesn’t object too loudly.

Biden is such a uniter! /TMITE

    • R C Dean

I don’t think they jail him (at least not now). I think they’ll go for some kind of house arrest, possibly with restrictions on access etc. to hamstring his campaign.

The backlash has been bad enough that they may go with deferred sentencing, though.

My ad would be “Donald Trump was convicted of interfering in the 2016 election by paying off a blackmailer after the election. How does that work?”

      • SDF-7

My only theory involves a Gallifreyan Stellar Engineer and some home grown capsules.

But yes — this is one of the (many) reasons I have to think the jury was either completely partisan, completely stupid… or both of course.

      • Ownbestenemy

Ill even give them the benefit of the doubt that they deliberated studiously on the case that was very narrowly tailored to have only one outcome.

      • PutridMeat

My ad would be “Donald Trump was convicted of interfering in the 2016 election by paying off a blackmailer after the election. How does that work?”

But he wasn’t was he? He was *convicted* of ‘fraudulently’ writing “legal services” on internal business documentation. Wasn’t the jury famously instructed to basically make up whatever underlying crime they felt like to justify the felony nature of the state charge?

      • ZWAK came for the two-fisted tentacle-fighting, stayed for the crushing existential nihilism.

OT: Grocery store was playing christian rock yesterday. I think I would rather chew paper than listen to that.
The christian rock thing…they are always trying to go mainstream. Good luck. All they do is ape generic pop music and put their lyrics to it. Nothing at all interesting about it. Absolutely the more intolerant an ideology is for badthinkers the more it stifles imagination, innovation and creativity. Thus the endless cannibalizing of Hollywood’s former glory by the movie industry. Leftists cant make anything original any more than I can fly to the moon on an elephant’s back.

I concur. To be fair, though, a large portion of music of any era falls into “they ape XXXXX music and put their lyrics to it”. Even the more unique sounding bands were blends of the existing stuff. There’s only so much you can do with 2 guitars, a bass, drums, a keyboard, and 4 chords.

IMO that’s a very 20th century “rebellious teenagers drive the culture” view of it. Christian art has been “preachy” since day one. The Sistine Chapel has Bible stories painted on it. David is _that_ David from the Bible. Notre Dame is a cathedral. The music was worship, the art was worship.

The idea that art has to be transgressive is very modern (or, more accurately, postmodern). The idea that it shouldn’t be preachy is very 20th century.

      • Suthenboy

The only thing close to good “Christian” rock I know of is 16 Horsepower. David Eugene Edwards is very religious, but his music is more deeply questioning, and not at all praise oriented.

      For Heavens Sake.

Pride month off to a rough start. Because the United Methodist Church went woke, they just lost over a million members in Africa.

But it turns out that most gay folks don’t want to go to church.

Conservatives, who they have purposefully and actively alienated, do want to go to church.

Good plan guys. Many of the UMC churches around here have already switched over to the conservative Global Methodist denomination.

The gays have the unitarian universalist church.

Too many people don’t accept them as christian for the left to be comfortable only skinsuiting them.

OTOH, I personally witnessed a gay pride flag in a UMC pastor’s office as early as 1998, so this has been a long time coming.

My mother still goes to a UCC church and complains about only 30 people attending on Sunday to hear the weird lesbian pastor say weird things. There were 300 people there most Sundays when I was a kid.

She’s shocked at how many people attend our current church – that left the PCUSA 12 years ago when it started going woke.

      • trshmnstr

She’s shocked at how many people attend our current church

My mom’s side of the family are decades-long diehard Democrats who happen to attend UMC churches. I’m sure they’d be surprised to see the renaissance happening in some more conservative churches while their hollowed out self-esteem camps continue to hemorrhage people and money.

You mean, people don’t want to wake up at 7am on Sunday just to get their pride fluffed and listen to a lecture on how great they are deep inside? They’d rather just sleep it? I’m shocked!

They identified the criminal who shot and killed a cop in Minneapolis last week. We know a lot about him except for his immigration status.

Mustafa Mohamed, 35, was convicted of first-degree burglary in 2007 and was ineligible to carry a firearm. He had an active warrant out for his arrest stemming from a 2022 incident in which, court documents say, police saw him at the scene of a downtown Minneapolis robbery carrying a gun.

Mohamed allegedly hid the gun behind a pillar when he saw police arrive. When police chased him, he threw a gun holster to the side and was arrested at the scene.

In 2014, Mohamed pleaded guilty to federal charges of being a felon in possession of ammunition and a firearm, according to court records. He was sentenced in 2015 to a little more than eight years in prison, with three years of supervised release. According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, an inmate whose name and demographics match Mohamed’s was released in May 2020.

    Metaphor?

Ford’s latest project out of the Motor City is the restoration and reopening of an abandoned train station, for decades a symbol of Detroit’s downfall and now the automaker’s new technology campus.

The $950 million project encompasses the 18-story former train station called Michigan Central Station – once the state’s marquee transit building – an adjacent 270,000-square-foot building and other, supporting facilities.

    ——-

Bill Ford decided to purchase the dilapidated building after years of trips to Silicon Valley for his Fontinalis venture capital firm and during his tenure as a member of the eBay
board of directors. He’s long been outspoken about the need for the traditional automotive industry to compete with newer tech companies in both product and talent acquisition.

    Muh equity!

The typical compensation package for chief executives who run companies in the S&P 500 jumped nearly 13% last year, easily surpassing the gains for workers at a time when inflation was putting considerable pressure on Americans’ budgets.

The median pay package for CEOs rose to $16.3 million, up 12.6%, according to data analyzed for The Associated Press by Equilar. Meanwhile, wages and benefits netted by private-sector workers rose 4.1% through 2023. At half the companies in this year’s pay survey, it would take the worker at the middle of the company’s pay scale almost 200 years to make what their CEO did.
