Sunday Morning Puppy Links

by | Jun 23, 2024 | Daily Links | 99 comments

WebDom and 10b0t have only been married a few days and they’re already expanding the family. Rosie (pictured above) managed to entice Winston (who hadn’t figured out sex yet) to experiment a bit and, well… the puppies are imminent. We’re trying to convince Warty that his daughter needs a puppy, and whether he likes it or not, I’m coming by his house with one and showing it to her, “just to play with.” He’s doomed. There’s 34 dogs from this family around the area (mix of German Shepherd, English Sheepdog, and Standard Poodle), and every one of them is happy, friendly, loves people, and (in WebDom’s words) “smart enough to be trainable but not smart enough to outsmart you.” I have suggested declaring a new breed, the Glibhound. So far, the lack of enthusiasm for the name is thunderous.

Birthdays today include John Money’s spirit animal; a guy with a great bottom; a guy who passed the test; the emptiest suit to ever inhabit Foggy Bottom; an absolute saint among men; a woman responsible for keeping a war going for fun and profit; the First Lady of country; the most corrupt SC justice ever, which must be true because all the newspapers said so;  and a woman who has been in a disturbing percentage of my favorite movies.

And while Rosie’s doggie doula tells her to “Inspire!” we’ll look at Links.

Now all they have to do is convince the other 99.5%.

Go long on popcorn.

I have coined a new term: JILF.

Every day, I think we hit Peak Stupid. And then I am inevitably proved wrong.

After their payoff to the Obama crew, I never have any sorrow when Netflix gets ripped off. If only I were on the jury…

I have some quibbles, many of which are discussed here, but overall, this would be a much better way for people to learn about science.

Imagine a dumber version of Preet Bharara. Wait, you don’t have to imagine.

Tomb Raider was (is) a tiny woman. The Old Guy had a solution for her to help with the sun during this heat wave.

    an absolute saint among men;

    Happy birthday Leslie Charteris!

    • juris imprudent

Yeah, that’s inciting violence that is. Or maybe just in comparison to an Irsay.

      • Ted S.

Never forget that the Irsays moved the Colts in the middle of the night because the Maryland legislature threatened to take the team by eminent domain. The next morning, there was nothing for the state to take.

      • juris imprudent

That might have made for a better case than Kelo, and far harder to justify.

  2. Gender Traitor

    an absolute saint among men

    • Grumbletarian

      Happy birthday, Roger Moore?

    • Old Man With Candy

Not that I’d poke him deliberately…

      • juris imprudent

Yeah, but Modell wasn’t even all that original, and he gave up the name to move the team. He still lacks a little something in comparison to a number of other owners.

  3. Gender Traitor

Lainey has a difficult romantic history.

And, of course, the common thread throughout…

She is probably helping men more than she’s helping women.

    • juris imprudent

Ok you got me to look.

she was in a long-term relationship with a man who was abusive and demanded sex daily

And that was it – I couldn’t read another word; I could feel the braincells dying.

Ocasio-Cortez indicated that voters should turn to issues on the left that Biden will champion, chiefly abortion

    LOL

Sometimes reality intrudes into your well-laid plans to make the election all about abortion and nothing else.

    • Sensei

Well the stock market has been generally screaming, but despite MSM and the left trying to highlight that the rubes ain’t buying it.

Partly because many of them aren’t directly invested in it. But perhaps they see how much food and housing cost, the impacts of illegal immigration, the rise in crime and racial animosity just to name few concerns.

Abortion is one thing they have to bang a drum with. Problem is most blue states already have it enshrined. So it only plays to the gallery. Interestingly swing state PA is one where the state has had little change after the SC decision. Contrasted to here in NJ where it has been enshrined as a right just in case the SC did what it did.

    • Fourscore

I don’t understand the abortion hoopla without a corresponding demand for birth control education.

While not an expert or trained professional I learned about the relationship ship between unprotected sex and babies long, long ago.

    • R C Dean

Abortion is Exhibit A for the American (human?) inability to draw the line between “I think people should be allowed to do X” and “I think doing X should be supported/“celebrated”. Kind of the mirror image of “I don’t like X, so people shouldn’t be allowed to do it.”

      • Chafed

        Bingo!

Morning chores done, and now I can enjoy the links.

The Franklin standards? What – more white supremacist patriarchy?

    • Fourscore

That’s a problem with the small cars and small back seats. A ’57 Chevvie was a mobile motel room.

      • Common Tater

They even made a 2-door station wagon.

      Yep.

Does this mean Cuomo wasn’t invited to Epstein’s child-rape playground and now he wants revenge too? Just wondering.

    • Grosspatzer, Superstar

The town has inked a nearly $45,000 contract with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services to wipe out the gaggle over the next five years at Liberty Park — rejecting advocates’ pleas that they use methods that are cheaper, more effective and more humane.

In 2023, Wildlife Services killed more than 24,000 geese nationwide, according to agency data.

A federal agency that is actually worth keeping around in libertopia?

  9. The Hyperbole

Just got back from Krogering – 17 bags of groceries for 93$, also after seemingly endless months without I now have six jars of Claussen’s Hearty Garlic Deli-Style Sandwich Slices.

    • Common Tater

What? Yesterday I spent $90 on three bags of groceries, and almost everything I bought was on sale.

      • R C Dean

I suspect The Hype used “self checkout”, IYKWIMAITYD.

      • The Hyperbole

The idiot bag boy managed to use 17 bags for 26 items.

      • Common Tater

A separate bag for each item?

    • ZWAK came for the two-fisted tentacle-fighting, stayed for the crushing existential nihilism.

Yeah, when I do grocery pickup, they bag the items by aisle, so I will get several bags with just one item, and others packed to the brim. Also, bacon is never bagged.

      • Gender Traitor

Why is bacon not bagged? Do you eat it on the way to the checkout and present the empty box for scanning?

      • ZWAK came for the two-fisted tentacle-fighting, stayed for the crushing existential nihilism.

I don’t know. They load it into my truck, and it is always separate. I am guessing as it is the only thing from that aisle, and already sealed.

      • Common Tater

        Muslim bagger?

      • Evan from Evansville

I’ve used rubber for the Muslims in my bed. Just the way things worked out.

        YMMV.

“A white Texas woman has been arrested after she allegedly attempted to drown a Palestinian toddler in a community pool after attacking the child’s mother with racist abuse.

Elizabeth Wolf, 42, was charged with attempted capital murder and injury to a child on May 19 by the Euless Police Department.

The accused reportedly approached a hijab-wearing Muslim woman identified as Mrs. H at an apartment complex pool and began making racist comments”

    • Old Man With Candy

There’s a lot of dubious in that story…

    • R C Dean

People could do a lot of things.

      • Sensei

        Like think for themselves?

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Too much work

      • juris imprudent

        Like think for themselves?

Slow down there cowboy, you need some baby steps there for the vast majority of people.

    • R C Dean

How we did a complete, perfect 180 from mandating that there be women-only teams to mandating that there shouldn’t be women-only teams just boggles the mind.

      • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

We’ve also gone from “boys can play with Barbies and girls can play with GI Joes!”

        to

“If a girl plays with a GI Joe, she must be a boy; if a boy plays with a Barbie, he must be a girl!”

      • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

Yep – trans is gay conversion “therapy” by another name

      • rhywun

the extent to which Stonewall’s pivot to trans arose in part because it fell for queer theory wibble

It was really a deliberate attack by the “smash the system” lobby. I doubt very many – if any – of those types were even “trans” – they just like tearing shit down.

      • Common Tater

Almost none of them are trans. Stonewall shifted to trans stuff, just like all the gay orgs on this side of the pond, because they ran out of issues. They were always a bunch of lefties.

  11. KK, Plump & Unfiltered

OMG that chick has gone without for a WHOLE TWO YEARS??? She deserves a ticker tape parade!! 🙄

  12. DEG

She was sick of seeing women’s sexuality monetized and taken advantage of by corporations. “It seems like women’s boundaries over our bodily autonomy are so threatening to the entire concept of dating that they need to put up billboards to stop us,” she said in the video. “At least we’re being seen, I guess?”

I’m not sure how I read this far. I’m tapping out here. BEAM ME UP!

    • ZWAK came for the two-fisted tentacle-fighting, stayed for the crushing existential nihilism.

It was the line about after a bad relationship, she went super promiscuous to “take back her body”. Sister, it don’t work like that.

      • juris imprudent

Giving it away for nothing but a cheap thrill isn’t super empowering? Who knew?

  13. The Late P Brooks

    Theatrics

“Inflation, this is what it does to you. This is Tic Tacs now,” Trump proceeded, gesturing to the miniature box as the crowd roared with laughter. “That’s what inflation has done. I’m glad everybody in this room has good eyes. But I will end the Biden inflation nightmare.”

Trump’s Tic Tac demonstration represents a phenomenon that Biden himself has referred to as “shrinkflation,” the practice of selling smaller-sized items for the same price. The White House has used “shrinkflation” as an attack against corporations that it claims are artificially keeping consumer prices high.

But something like Trump’s Tic Tac stunt will not be permitted at the Thursday debate where props and pre-written notes are prohibited. It ultimately underscores how Trump will have to navigate the debate’s limitations on the kinds of theatrics that resonate at his voter rallies.

Yeah, right, MSNBC Business Channel writer. Trump is stealing Biden’s shrinkflation schtick. Inflation is just rampant corporate greed and rapacity, not the willful destruction of buying power via government policy. That little mini box of Tic Tacs is what you can now afford with your miniaturized dollars.

    • rhywun

Shrinkflation has long referred to that 16oz can of coffee now being 14oz at the same price and hopefully nobody notices.

Dunno what Biden is trying to redefine it as.

    • Suthenboy

I didn’t catch it all but Argentina’s economy is making a stunning recovery. Of course all the neighboring commies and the commies here are hysterically shitting bricks.

      • Chafed

As well they should. If Argentina becomes a success, it will be damn difficult to sell the commie lies.

      • juris imprudent

Only to those who suffer from false consciousness – those seduced by their material comforts, and not deeply imbued with revolutionary hatred (and envy).

      • Suthenboy

meh, in the end it wont matter. All the pinkos have to do is wait for a new generation of morons to come along and they can put a shiny wrapper on the turd they are selling and people will stand in line to buy it.

  14. The Late P Brooks

“Under Biden, the economy is in ruins,” Trump said Saturday.

“Trump’s incoherent, unhinged tirade showed voters in his own words that he is a threat to our freedoms and is too dangerous to be let anywhere near the White House again,” Biden-Harris 2024 Spokesperson Sarafina Chitika said in a statement responding to Trump’s Saturday speech.

    Repeat as necessary.

    • ZWAK came for the two-fisted tentacle-fighting, stayed for the crushing existential nihilism.

Is Chitika bananas for Biden or what?

    • Suthenboy

      Sure I am interested.
80K? Gonna have to take a pass on that one.

    • Homple

Was the rifle built to compensate for his shriveled arm?

    • Fourscore

      What caliber?

I need to know if I already have the right reloading dies before I make an offer.

Does it come pre-drilled for scope mounts?

      • DEG

8×57, though it doesn’t say if it was Patrone 88 or S Patrone.

        Iron sights. No scope mounts.

  15. The Late P Brooks

    Gotcha

During the three-day event at which Donald Trump will officially be nominated for president by a party that has consistently opposed implementing gun safety measures, firearms will not be allowed near the convention area in downtown Milwaukee.

Open and concealed carry will be permitted up to within a few blocks of the event space, per Wisconsin state law; but weapons will be prohibited within the inner perimeter of the venue, according to the Secret Service, which laid out security plans at a news conference on Friday. The safety plan was put together by the Secret Service and local officials.

“Understandably, the presence of firearms around any kind of major event is going to make some people feel uncomfortable,” Nick DeSiato, chief of staff in the Milwaukee mayor’s office, told Axios.

The prohibition on firearms near and inside the convention area is noteworthy. Prominent Republicans — including Trump himself — have publicly opposed gun-free zones, even as they have banned firearms at their own events. Firearms were also prohibited at the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland. (It could hardly matter for Trump personally, as his own gun license is expected to be revoked as a consequence of his conviction, NBC News reported. It was temporarily suspended upon his arrest.)

What a bunch of hypocrites. Everybody should be required to be packing in order to get in.

    • Common Tater

      Can Trump still vote?

      • DEG

If he’s registered in Florida: According to this document, since he was convicted in New York State, it depends on NY’s laws. Based on this page, in NY convicted felons can vote if they aren’t incarcerated.

      • Common Tater

        OK, thanks 🙂

  16. The Late P Brooks

No linkee to Axios and their obnoxious bullet point format:

Former President Trump is raising eyebrows with a series of unexpected policy proposals aimed at winning over targeted voter groups, with little downside.

OMG he’s offering inducements to potential voters. That’s egregiously unethical. He’s crashing through the guardrails. Joe Biden would never stoop to such crude pandering.

    • Suthenboy

“…winning over targeted voter groups, with little downside.”

      I….uh…Is that….WTF?

  17. Grosspatzer, Superstar

Late to the party, but mazel tov, Old Man, Webdom, 10b0t. And puppies!

  18. Q Continuum

    “demanded sex daily”

    Worse than the Holocaust.

“After it ended, she went through a promiscuous phase that lasted roughly a year, in part, she believes, to feel she had some agency over her body. “I was like a freight train,” she says. “I had no sense of my body. I didn’t own it anymore.””

    Empowerment through being a slut.

“Over the next ten years, she dated around, usually unhappily, and suffered from chronic UTIs from intercourse.”

Confucious say: the one commonality in all your failed relationships is you. Confucious also say: always pee after sex.

  19. The Late P Brooks

    Spineless flipflopping chameleon

Trump’s latest comments on visas did not come out of the ether, but evinced an evolution on immigration, an issue that has been a raison d’être of his political story. When he spoke to the Business Roundtable last week, some of the titans of the tech industry seemed to breathe a sigh of relief when Trump appeared to support keeping high-skilled immigrants in the United States.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think Trump has ever been particularly opposed to “high-skilled” immigrants.

    • DEG

      He’s a 90s Democrat, so you’re correct.

      • juris imprudent

Try as they might, the media just can’t fit him into the Buchanan suit.

    • rhywun

His previous policy was to deport legal immigrants? Really?

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

In fact, didn’t he even propose a skills based immigration policy like Canada’s during his presidency?

  20. The Late P Brooks

For Trump — who has demonized undocumented immigrants and railed against the record levels of migration at the Southern border as a cornerstone of his 2024 presidential campaign — it was a significant change. Trump has called for mass deportations on the first day of his administration, has said that migrants are “poisoning the blood” of this country, and has highlighted high-profile crimes committed by migrants in the U.S. illegally.

Saying you oppose uncontrolled indiscriminate swarming of the border obviously means you don’t want to allow anyone to enter or work, no matter what their skills or circumstances might be.

  21. The Late P Brooks

a spokesperson for President Joe Biden’s campaign, Kevin Munoz, said, “Trump’s empty promise is both a lie and an insult, especially to the countless people that have been permanently damaged by his first-term in office.”

Yeah yeah yeah, we get it. The Big Bad Wolf is coming to eat us.

    • Suthenboy

A MSNBC legal analyst . Well then, I guess that settles it.

  22. The Late P Brooks

“People’s positions evolve,” said Republican strategist and Trump ally David Urban, who lobbied for TikTok.

With cryptocurrency, TikTok, technology, Urban said, “a lot of these newer issues, there is some room for some thoughtful reflection. He’s hearing from different people, different voices, weighing different opinions. He gathers information about any topic, whether it’s the Vice President or a trade deal, he talks to people. He takes input from Steve Schwarzman to the police officer in the receiving line, and so his positions evolve.”

He listens to the wrong people!

  23. JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

    That’s Dr. JILF.

    • juris imprudent

She is here in PA and we were breathlessly told by our local news that we could go listen to herworship at her feet.

“A previously censored paper from The Lancet has now undergone peer review and is available online.

The study, titled “A Systematic Review of Autopsy Findings in Deaths After COVID-19 Vaccination,” analyzed 325 autopsy cases and found that a staggering 73.9% of deaths were either directly due to or significantly contributed to by the COVID-19 vaccination.

The paper’s lead author, Dr. Nicolas Hulscher, faced significant opposition in bringing these findings to light. After initially being downloaded over 100,000 times, The Lancet removed the paper within 24 hours, according to Dr. William Makis.

According to The Daily Sceptic, the reason given at the time was, “This preprint has been removed by Preprints with the Lancet because the study’s conclusions are not supported by the study methodology.””
