I would like to announce something for the group that might explain my consistent absence for a while. Its not that I don’t like you, its that I got promoted a few weeks ago at work after having to prove my worth for the past few months by taking more and more stupid tasks at work having nothing to do with my actual profession. The good news is I managed to fulfill a couple personal goals in the process, but the bad news is my spare time became…lacking. So my writing is increasingly mundane as a result. Well…more so than usual. I write a lot of nonsense to be honest.
Damn though, what a week. This is my review of Northwest Brewing Co Joker Northwest Style Amber:
Its been a stupid week. First, the LP decided they are best represented not by ¡AFUERA! but by a weirdo that is okay with genital mutilation so long as it is not the government enforced genital mutilation. Not too many people make that distinction with this subject but hey, that’s a bold move hope it works out for you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . I don’t particularly like Rectenwald either, my problem with most of the LP candidates is they are pussies. The best part is nobody has actually bothered covering anything other than lolberts booing Trump…except for TOS. (TW: TOS)
Then it became apparent that nobody really wants to see a Mad Max universe movie that doesn’t star Mel Gibson. Imagine that. The best part is if they want to end Mad Max by doing an Unforgiven style requiem to the genre starring a geriatric Mel Gibson—people might actually see it. Whatever, I’m turning into Walt from Gran Torino, anyways.
Then Vermont decided they wanted to freeze to death this winter. Finally, all of this is capped off by the news the Orange Man will probably go to prison following his Soviet Style show trial—and still win anyways. There has to be some good news out there right?
Not really but I did learn this exists. If we’re going to live in abject stupidity where politicians will finally use power to eliminate other politicians and will only vote on something that can enrich themselves via inside trading —sort of like Latin America. We may as well enrich ourselves in the process? Unusual Whales existed for a long time but at $48 a month its a bit pricey if you are only going to throw beer money at the market. Here, you can make beer money like Pelosi and Eyepatch McCain.
…This is not financial advice.
I am beginning to realize how something that is effectively poison managed to become so ingrained culturally for thousands of years. Booze is helpful. This beer at least is pretty nice, or at least I think it used to be. I found it on a shelf covered in dust and I picked it up thinking maybe its just dusty? I have no idea how long its been there on the shelf. I don’t think I’ve seen the 22oz bomber bottle in a long time, at least not without being covered in wax and on sale for over $20. Plus its an amber ale! A literal blast from the past that didn’t age particularly well, unfortunately. The hops degraded over its time on the shelf, not funky but it was a bit off. Still, I enjoyed the faint reminder when things weren’t quite so stupid. Northwest Brewing Co Joker Northwest Style Amber: 2.5/5
** Edit to add: I forgot the AKGuy lost. Way to continue to suck thick, sweaty donkey balls, Texas. If you’re going to bag on my state for electing Hobbs…at least pretend not to be some tambourine-banging Southern Baptist shithole where everyone wants to lecture me about civility.
Congrats on promotion, though.
Seconded.
Gracias
Also congrats
+another congrats!
Huzzah!
Booze is helpful.
Yes.
Keeping the species reproducing, if not always with the best genetic outcomes.
Hey! I resent that.
Love Anya Taylor-Joy, but everything I’ve heard is that it’s too much CGI and way too long for such a simple plot.
A major crime in cinema. A story should be just as long as it needs to be and no longer.
I’m sort of tired of her being in everything.
I honestly can’t think of anything I might have seen her in.
Queens Gambit, The Menu, and she was in Dune 2 for 10 seconds.
Nope, nope, and not yet.
Split, Glass, The Northman, Last Night in Soho, the VVitch too – but I haven’t seen that one.
The Menu was quite good.
Glass is the only movie mentioned that I have seen. I do not remember her in anyway.
Very recognizable face/eyes. Almost stunning in some contexts, but can verge on a little odd too depending on your preferences.
“Then Vermont decided they wanted to freeze to death this winter.”
First gun laws, and now this. Maybe Richard could chime in, but I expect it’s all Burlington’s fault. Maybe states need a senate by county to keep cities from ruining states by popular vote. For example, all but a few counties were against NY’s idiotic SAFE law.
Several states used to have this, but it got in the way of the left’s policy preferences, so the Warren court outlawed the practice in Reynolds v. Sims.
He chimed in a while back
But the biggest factor is the change in the composition of Vermont’s legislature. Originally each town sent a representative to the House and each county sent a representative to the Senate. This gave the state’s many small rural towns power in the House over the few populous rich towns and gave the state its original governmental character. It all changed with the 1964 U.S. Supreme Court case Reynolds vs. Sims when it was decided that it was unconstitutional for state representatives to be elected by region, they had to be elected by population.
Wait, what populates a region?
If it’s good enough for the national Senate, why not the state Senates?
I can’t wait for the Mad Max sequel set in Vermont with hot chicks in rabbit fur bikinis tree-skiing as they escape from a big maple syrup heist.
Suspension of disbelief too great
Now this I would watch
Paging RJ . . . .
Speaking of TOS, has anybody been brave/foolish enough to sample their reactions to the great triumph of justice?
Volokh posted this President Donald Trump’s Manhattan Convictions are Unconstitutional
Volokh did not post that.
I appreciate the comparison to Volokh, but I am not that guy.
Sullum was pretty reasonable.
Agreed.
Between the twit the LP nominated and the expected outcome of the trial in NYC I may end up voting for OMB this fall. My vote in this state will make zero difference to the EC final count, but I want Trump to get a higher popular vote total than in either of the prior two elections.
Yeah, I’ve been doing kind of a gray man low profile thing for awhile, but today I am out and about in a full Gadsden Flag t-shirt *flexes pecs , err, moobs*. I told Mrs. Dean I was feeling insurrectiony today.
I’m thinking this year’s FU vote is for Trump.
Hell hath no fury like a monkey scorned.
A scorned, drunk money reportedly went on a wild revenge spree and bit five people after becoming jealous of his owner’s partner.
Garik, a monkey from the village of Myliki, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Russia, escaped from his owner, Anna, on Friday after her husband let him out of his cage, Russian outlet Knife Media reported.
The monkey reportedly grabbed an open bottle of whiskey, which he sipped from, and then ran outside and started his wild rampage.
You can usually convince your monkey to accept a new male in the household, but the negotiations involve a fair amount of gibbon take.
Interesting tail.
However, you must draw clear boundaries when negotiating with monkeys you can’t have them capuchin you around.
The Richard Pryor monkey sketch is appropriate here:

This is a prime-ate example of the kind of comment Swiss won’t tolerate.
He never has shown a proper ape-preciation of our clever wordplay.
Make him bananas when we pun, it does.
He should have offered it a bribe; some candy, perhaps. Rhesus pieces are popular with the lower primates, I hear.
Of course, it was a Russian monkey. I’m just surprised it was whiskey, not vodka.
But I was told we needed a law for him to do this. And why now and not years ago?

Why now?
November is coming.
And we can only hope Joe flies south for the winter. The Palmer Peninsula sounds nice…
Could we set the threshold at zero?
It all changed with the 1964 U.S. Supreme Court case Reynolds vs. Sims when it was decided that it was unconstitutional for state representatives to be elected by region, they had to be elected by population.
And democracy was thereby saved from a tyrannical minority. Yay.
The people in charge in the 1960’s were really some of the worst autocrats, weren’t they?
The executive action is likely to allow US officials to shut off asylum requests once a daily threshold is met, allowing border officials to limit the amount of migrant arrivals, according to media.
The Migra will be standing knee deep in the Rio Grande with clipboards to interview people as they cross?
Just don’t call it predatory lending
Many Americans would love to buy a home, but they don’t have tens of thousands of dollars to cover a down payment.
That massive roadblock is being removed by a new zero-percent down mortgage program launched two weeks ago by one of the nation’s largest mortgage lenders.
However, the new program, offered by United Wholesale Mortgage, is making some experts nervous about how these loans could backfire on homeowners — especially if home prices stop going to the moon. And for some, it’s bringing back bad memories of the subprime mortgage meltdown that fueled the 2008 financial crisis.
Make housing affordable again!
Income is also a barrier so they are removing that as a requirement.
The NBA/WNBA are backing mortgages?
The WNBA should be sponsored by one of those reverse mortgage companies.
Clearly we need more regulation.
All this has happened before, and it will happen again. [BSG cribbing from Peter Pan, just like they ripped off Dylan]
I like you too much so I’ll ignore you bagging on BSG.
I had not heard about this. Laughably stupid and evil.
And entirely self-inflicted.
…due to lack of interest
The organizers behind the Geneva Motor Show announced plans to discontinue the show indefinitely on Friday, pointing towards insufficient market conditions that have persisted as a result of the global pandemic.
The Comité permanent du Salon international de l’automobile said in a statement that it’s found the post-Covid market challenging to cope with, particularly when mixed with the general upheaval across the automotive industry at large. These factors have combined and “eroded the attractiveness of major European shows,” in the eyes of the organizers.
The event has been an automotive mainstay since 1905, with as many as 120 exhibitors and 600,000 visitors a year during its peak.
Geneva show President Alexandre de Senarclens cited a decline in demand from automakers and the growth of other major events as reasons for the shuttering.
That canary isn’t looking too well.
Regulation limiting design choices and increasing prices with younger generations with less interest in cars.
Shocking…

Last week upcoming for my 5 week school at NWC in Newport, RI. Great weather, lots of tasty food and beer within an easy walk from base.
My goodness!
I went to the National Zoo back in 2014 and saw Mei Xiang, the giant panda, along with her offspring Bao Bao, who looked identical to his mom. As I looked from one to the other and back again, I thought “This bear’s repeating…”
So it’s nice to see that pandas are returning to the zoo soon.
Your joke fails because pandas aren’t bears.
Actually, Giant Panda are bears. What they’re not are Pandas.
Another interesting drone vid in Israel.

Damn. I Gilmored a post but directed at the right poster. That has to be a record.
Not as such…but still very watchable. She might even identify that way.
I liked to think Israeli bombs were bringing down Hamas buildings, not Hamas’s bombs.
Why not? They shoot Palis for the cameras, they rocketed their own hospital, so why not blow up their own buildings?
And when the IDFs go off, the Jews will be blamed for genociding Pali babies.
A couple of ODAs got wiped out by a similar setup in Fallujiah when I was in theater.
So Islamophobic. They are clearly making large quantities of pickles.

So, IOW, normal.

re: Bomber bottles – pretty sure I’ve still got a few. I know some locals in VA used to use them and switched to smaller bottles for 6 pack shipping vice the wine box format…disappointing. I love the feel of a nice big bottle – and one that’s not a heavy-ass holiday stout like Hardywood’s annual specials.
Think I still have a large Samuel Smith Cherry Ale in one of my boxes up here in RI – although I may have already drunk it.
“The good news is I managed to fulfill a couple personal goals”
Good. I’ve regressed on mine but it’s ok.
I’m otherwise gainfully employed, have family (tho lacking a wife and/or kids), and the suspense waiting for dubya dubya III is killing me.

Few can achieve this level of greatness.
Pretty much.
Although Wallace ended up drawn and quartered. So that sucks. Perhaps we can draw up a plan to quarter the US.
Gavin Newsom must be seething with envy that a tiny pissant state like Vermont beat him to the punch on that Big Oil law.
Having finished the Dave Smith vs. Fredo debate. PBD must be paying Fredo a fortune to get wrecked like that.
Thrill kill
The conviction of former President Donald Trump in Manhattan of 34 felonies produced citywide celebrations. This thrill-kill environment extended to the media, where former U.S. Attorney Harry Litman told MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace that it was “majestic day” and “a day to celebrate.” When I left the courthouse after watching the verdict come in, I was floored by the celebrations outside by both the public and some of the media.
The celebrants would be wise to think twice before mounting this trophy kill on the political wall. The Trump trial is a target-rich environment for an appeal, with multiple layers of reversible error, in my view.
——-
Even when closing arguments were given, analysts on various networks admitted that they were unclear about what Bragg was alleging. The indictment claimed a violation under New York’s election law 17-152 that the falsification of business records were committed to further another crime as an unlawful means to influence the election. However, in a maddeningly circular theory, that other crime could be the falsification of business records. It could also be violations of federal election and taxation laws, which Trump was never charged with, let alone convicted of.
None of that matters. Bad Orange Jumpsuit Man’s scalp is hanging from Bragg’s lodge pole.
I think this will help the Democrats cancel the election this year. Hence all the pomp and circumstance.
Joe is starting a world war… might as well add a civil war to the list of his accomplishments.

Ouch!
Destined for the Hall of Fame
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg won more than just the case when a jury found Donald Trump guilty of 34 felony counts.
The Harlem Democrat, who at times seemed like a reluctant participant in a trial he launched, secured a place in history as the first prosecutor to land the conviction of an American president.
It’s easily one of the most dazzling feats of jurisprudence the nation has seen — and the sort of accomplishment that could launch him on a political rocket ship to Washington. Indeed, the conviction Thursday drew immediate praise and gratitude from Democrats, who see the former president as a unique threat to democracy — while also intensifying attacks from his supporters and the freshly convicted candidate himself, who has called the case a “witch hunt” and a “sham trial” organized by President Joe Biden.
Yet there were no Champagne baths in Bragg’s office after the verdict. When the jury’s decision was announced in Manhattan Criminal Court, Bragg stuck to the apolitical tone he has adopted throughout the prosecution. In public, he described the case as standard practice. In private, he acknowledged to his staff the enormity of what they’d taken on — and said it was time to get back to business as usual.
He runs the Statue of Liberty play like nobody else.
“It’s easily one of the most dazzling feats of jurisprudence the nation has seen”
Let’s see what the appeals courts have to say. Legal academics and commentators have been mostly somewhere between bemused and appalled. I don’t recall anyone extolling his brilliance.
“time to get back to business as usual”
We’ve got a lot of criminals to put back on the streets. Best get crackin’.
