The Hat and The Hair Animated: ep 25 Rerun

by | Jul 24, 2024 | Hat and Hair | 100 comments

Trump seemed to waffle on how much influence he gave John Bolton during his tenure. Every time Trump wanted to start a new war, there was the mustache. But, The Hair won out in the end.

Where is everyone? Hope you’re not all sobbing uncontrollably because the best president we ever had, who did so much and is still going to do so much, and could win the next election, is dropping out of the race because he can’t win the next election.

    • slumbrew

Workout went late which means late dinner. Then I gotta do some Duolingo to keep the streak alive. Then I should read more…

      • The Other Kevin

        YOU GO SLUM! #crushinit

      • R C Dean

What are you larnin’ on Duolingo? I’ve got Spanish going. It’s funny (disturbing?) how well their gamification works to get you to hit it every day, do one more lesson etc.

      • slumbrew

Thanks, TOK! We agreed to meet friends in Utah for hiking in September. Then I’m seeing, online, them doing 15 mile hikes in preparation – WTF?!

Turns out that’s “unrelated” – they’ve got a 20 miler before Utah and that will only be 5 milers or so. But still, I refuse to be the one holding the group back, so grinding on the Peloton (which someone recently gave us) daily and trying to fit in local hikes as well. Probably boot shopping this weekend.

      • slumbrew

Counselor: 1,031 day streak learning French (with only 2 streak freezes in there).

In retrospect, I should have gone for something more practical, like Spanish, but I’m pot-committed now. I’m about halfway through the course (midway through Section 4 of 8).

At least it’s a Romance language, so it may help when I start Spanish (although tempted by Portuguese, since we know a bunch of Brazilians).

The wife is doing Spanish (about 900 day streak).

      • Chipping Pioneer

        How do you pronounce “chowder”?

      • slumbrew

This is an outrage! I am not a clumsy Clouseau-esque waiter!

      • Wood Chipped Wednesday

Coming from a Portuguese speaking person, If you were to jump ship to Spanish/Portuguese I’d recommend going to Spanish first. I felt like it made it easier for me to learn how to read, write and speak Portuguese (I’ve always been able to understand when someone talks to me because my mom is Brazilian and speaks to me, but never learned to write etc…) and also that jump from French won’t be as hard I don’t think.

      • slumbrew

The biggest advantage for Spanish, IMO, is all the Spanish language programming available.

I can watch the news in Spanish on several channels. French or Portuguese, not so much.

    • OBJ FRANKELSON

I am getting my band nerd on at a Drum Corps show with Mrs. Frankelson and the youngest Franklesonette. Can’t speak for anyone else.

“the best president we ever had, who did so much and is still going to do so much, and could win the next election, is dropping out of the race because he can’t win the next election”

    Go ‘way. ‘Batin.

  3. kinnath

I am listening to the shit for brains explaining why he isn’t running.

I watched Nixon resign. I might as well watch this too.

    • kinnath

Eleven minutes of lies and bullshit, and he never spoke directly to why he wasn’t going to run.

      • Sensei

“The defense of democracy, which is at stake, is more important than any title,” Biden said, casting his decision to leave the race as self-sacrifice to protect the country.

Biden added: “I have decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. That is the best way to unite our nation.”

        Clears it right up.

  4. Fourscore

I saw a little of Trump’s rally, a couple minutes of Joe’s incoherence.

I know there’s no such thing as peak derp but damn, I’m questioning the validity of that. I’m thinking that way more than 50% of the people are below average if they even pretend to believe what’s coming out of possible presidential candidates’ mouths.

If we have to be exposed to this for another 4-5 months we deserve what we get.

  5. Stinky Wizzleteats

Mildly surprised he didn’t resign to tell the truth. Six more months of this, god help us.

  6. creech

This election is far from in the bag for Trump. My GOP insider friend says their latest internal polling isn’t complete yet but they are seeing a definite trend of Biden wary Dems coming back to Harris I won’t be surprised to see Harris comfortably ahead in PA by Sept 1. If Trump screws up the debate with her, we might have to get used to hearing President Harris’s cackles for four years. Heaven help us if the House and Senate go blue.

    • The Artist Formerly Known as Lackadaisical

We’ll be so screwed and the courts are glacial… They’d push through every kind of shit imaginable.

    • DEG

My impression from chatting with someone involved in GOP advertising is the consultants are fighting the last election. Abortion, abortion, abortion. Nothing about taking advantages of opportunities like people leaving the Democrat party.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

A move back to whoever the replacement candidate is was bound to happen because no one wants to vote for a walking corpse. If Trump manages to keep himself under control and not do anything too stupid (I know, I know) he has a very good chance to win-remember, Biden wasn’t doing well even before he was reveled to the faithful to be demented. If not Harris can certainly win but she too has to guard against saying stupid stuff which she has a past history of doing.

She’s a mostly unknown commodity right now precisely because they kept her hidden because she puts her foot in her mouth every time she opens it and her mannerisms can be offputting. Trump certainly doesn’t have it in the bag but the rising panic I see is premature.

      • Chipping Pioneer

        @stinky

What do you mean by “our side”?

      • Chipping Pioneer

And I really f’ed up that thread. The new WordPress is a house of mirrors on a phone.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Down below you mean? Just on those specific issues mentioned there seems to be mostly agreement here (the conservatarian stuff) but I put it in scare quotes because it’s certainly not everyone.

    • Mojeaux the Lazy Yenta

The propaganda machine is working overtime and may overheat.

      Selection bias ahoy:

My Twitter feed is full of Hoteps and black men who’ve left the plantation and they are pissed off about Kamala, exhorting people to vote so as to give no buffer to election fraud.

Of course, my feed is also full of libtards because of my association with romancelandia. One tweet was a black woman saying, “Yet another election we have to carry on our back. We’re tired, y’all.” (Paraphrased.) The squawking for white women to step up and help black women for once in their miserable little lives is just clangy and, quite frankly, complete cringe.

My non-USian tweeple are either very quiet or hoping for Trump. It’s almost like Britain is depending on Trump to rescue them from their own migrants and healthcare problems.

Of course I have the usual mix heavy on conservatarians and preppers, so I won’t belabor that.

The men in women’s sports is a surprisingly huge issue. Not quite to abortion levels, but I’m shocked how many people are invested in getting pervs out of women’s locker rooms, shelters, and prisons. The TERFs are not blind to Kamala’s utter disregard for women’s rights.

      /Twitter report

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

The white women who’d vote for Harris because they were pestered by black women on Twitter would’ve voted Dem anyway. That being said, X is not real life and it isn’t reflective of it. Great for breaking news though…

      • Mojeaux the Lazy Yenta

That being said, X is not real life and it isn’t reflective of it.

        Don’t rain on my parade.

I actually don’t talk to people in real life much and I certainly don’t talk about politics because my brain is scrambled and I can’t think on my feet.

      • rhywun

my brain is scrambled and I can’t think on my feet

Same. I have been able to make my case in reasonably friendly company and on some combination of alcohol and drugs; but in polite company, no way.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

I know what you’re saying Moj and there is a lot of true movement to “our” side of those issues you mentioned but the politically informed are over-represented there. It’ll be interesting to see how the people that don’t use X and don’t even realize the propaganda machine exists respond to the propaganda machine.

    • Mojeaux the Lazy Yenta

The border issue is a biggie, and that may be the counterweight the abortion issue needs.

And also, her inexperience (failed upward) is on shocking display.

      • Drake

I think when people see her in action they’ll quickly lose their enthusiasm. She’s as dumb as Joe without the dementia excuse.

This is as high as she gets in the polls.

In 2020, she polled at 3% among democrats.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

She’s one of the worst I’ve seen: condescending like Hillary, stupid like Shelia Jackson Lee (not quite that stupid but still), shrill like AOC, appears to be drunk in public at times like Pelosi, and inarticulate like the honourable Senator Fetterman. She sucks and I think you’re right about the future of her standing in the polls Drake.

The faithful and the media will always profess to love her though, even though they don’t, but that’s just what they do.

      • rhywun

her inexperience (failed upward) is on shocking display

I am not sure how much that matters.

Everyone is so dug in it seems, especially on their pet issues.

I really have no predictions to make.

      • ZWAK came for the two-fisted tentacle-fighting, stayed for the crushing existential nihilism.

Right now she is getting the New Guy Bounce in the polls, so we need a week or so to see were we really are.

The D’s are going to go hard on abortion, but that is countered by the Border and men in womens spaces. So… it remains to be seen.

      • Gustave Lytton

Baby murder wouldn’t be supposed needle mover if the lying MSM didn’t keep saying it is and the otherwise disbelieving opposition keeps lapping it up.

      • Pope Jimbo

I would tie her to the Hamas lovers that were running around DC spray painting monuments and burning flags. While she was giving a speech to some sorority.

You can not be thrilled by Israel, but defacing stuff sure isn’t the way to win over people. Of course, they aren’t trying to persuade people, they are trying to intimidate them.

        * What would they be spray painting if they had gotten their way back in 2020 and had all those monuments torn down?

      • rhywun

I would tie her to the Hamas lovers that were running around DC spray painting monuments and burning flags.

The same people had more success agitating for communism a few years ago under the “BLM” banner. Now I get the feeling that everyone else is getting sick of their shit.

    • Gustave Lytton

Tell your GOP insider buddies that it’s never too late for them to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and give a damn good concession speech!

    • Gustave Lytton

And fuck your fellow keystone klowns. If they want to vote fully commie, they get what they deserve – good and hard.

  7. Gender Traitor

Marginally on-topic: I was surfing X while working out after work today, and I’m pretty sure that I caught a clip from yesterday’s hearing into the assassination attempt in which a congresscritter mentioned Bolton’s name. I think it was related to the reported threat from Iran. Lo and behold, we see The Return of The Mustache! Coincidence? I think not!

I did not watch Joe Headroom this evening. Did he glitch out at any point?

    • Tres Cool
    • Stinky Wizzleteats

He made it through the statement OK but at the end he broke out into a rousing rendition of Hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal and highkicked off the stage. Poor guy’s gone.

  8. Mojeaux the Lazy Yenta

Fortunately, I am working, as per usual in the evenings, so I didn’t feel compelled to be a looky-loo.

  9. DEG

    Nuclear M-16s? YES.

  10. The Gunslinger

    Probably meaningless election anecdote.
My wife likes to watch the cop show ‘On Patrol Live’. Tonight the cops in South Carolina (I think) had a car stopped and it was a couple young black guys and a young black woman. The cops had them out of the car and were asking questions. I’m not sure what the stop was for. It didn’t seem serious.
Anyway, one of the young black guys looks at the camera and says “shout-out to Trump. They tried to take him out…”. And that was all I could hear.
I would not have expected to see that on that show even a few months ago.

Whelp, looks like my beloved Jasper township will be reduced to ashes by tomorrow. Many sadness, much memories. It’s too bad that the nimbys never allowed any interface mitigation to occur because reasons. If it can happen there it can happen right outside my front door. It’s a goddamned fucking shame.

    • slumbrew

      Sorry, Festus. That sucks.

      • Festus

Only five hours Drive east and a favored getaway. National Park so there were extra layers of bureaucracy regarding fire suppression. This is how the pine beetle epidemic happened. There was a small outbreak in one of our Provincial parks 30 years ago and the lefty Government wouldn’t allow it to be nipped in the bud. The beetles spread was relentless and now Jasper is no more.

    • The Bearded Hobbit

We passed through there a few days ago. Beautiful place, sorry to hear that it’s burning.

      • Festus

Racist Fun Fact – Our company sent us there on a retreat in the 80’s and because of the sheer number of Asian tourists we started calling it “Japster”.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

One of my memories of riding from Jasper to Banff in the late 70s was the huge number of Japanese tourists.

Everyone is so dug in it seems, especially on their pet issues.

That is the scary part. Team A and Team B are holding this line. Will it spark? Don’t know but also don’t like to tempt fate.

If Trump wins it’s 170 million who think he is Hitler. If Harris wins, it’s 170 million who think she is Che or Marx.

I see no good outcome come November

    • Festus

I’m the same way as I was as a little kid watching a scary movie between my fingers. Dark days.

  13. The Bearded Hobbit

Sunset tonite in Whitehorse, Yukon is 22:56. So much for my hopes of seeing the aurora.

I’ve been surprised at the small number of trucks and the large number of motorcyclists on the highway. I talked with one guy who had shipped his BMW from Germany to Vancouver and is riding all the way north to Prudhoe Bay. After that they will ride to New York. Three month tour.

A guy in the elevator tonite looked sourly at my Scumbag Biker tee-shirt. See it at http://www.scumbagbiker.com

Our return may be in trouble. The rains washed out the road behind us. When we passed a few days ago one lane had already collapsed.

    Alaska tomorrow!

Critter count today: just some crows

    • slumbrew

Sounds like an awesome trip – I’m sure they’ll have the road functional by the time you’re headed back.

Some the other day linked to this lady who road from Patagonia to the top of Alaska, which is just wild.

      just some crows

Failed Joke Idea 1: You didn’t count them?

Failed Joke Idea 2: A murder or just an attempted murder?

    • Festus

My family lived in Dawson Creek when I was a very wee feller and back then the preferred way to travel the Alaska Highway seemed to be nearly endless caravans of Airstream trailers towed behind trucks and station wagons. I don’t think that most of that road was even paved past a certain point.

      • Brochettaward

Was your life filled with teenage angst and drama in Dawson Creek?

  14. Festus

No. I was there for first and second grade. I do remember those weird little licorice candies being called “Nigger-Babies”. Across the mountains is a whole different world from where I live now. That’s farm country, part of the Prairie. Grain elevators and all.

  15. Ownbestenemy

    Fun facts

Wayne’s World opening scene in the Gremlin was filmed in the downtown I grew up in. Also my first ‘love’ was in town while filming Roswell (the first one)

Boogie Nights was just just up in the hills from where I lived.

And for missed opportunities in life..I went to the beach twice with a young and unknown Jessica Alba

    • Festus

To be fair, most girls that age kinda look the same to me so it’s not a terrible whiff.

  16. Festus

Going back to my bugaboo, the Government used to pay for crews to go out to fall and burn mature pine trees that were infested. The only problem being was that for every tree marked for death by some bushy-tailed grad student the summer before there would be a hundred more in the same state come the winter. So we cut down the marked trees, burned them and walked away. That’s what they paid us to do. Nothing more, nothing less. Good money but pretty tough to get motivated. Dangerous as fuck, too.

I just stocked up on diet dew, but I’ve got to do laundry since I’m wearing my last clean work shirt.

For whatever reason, I slept from mid afternoon to slightly after midnight and have been awake since.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Not surprising, they let people with essentially the same political mindset riot for months and months and they’ll let them do it here with the ones detained being released without charges. It’s like a license to steal.

    • WTF

      The police deployed pepper spray.
Fuck that. Water cannons, rubber bullets and German Shepherds. And if that doesn’t work, 12 ga. semi-auto shotguns.

And every non-citizen should be declared persona non grata and permanently deported.

  19. cavalier973

    It’s hilarious.

Two weeks ago, Trump had it in the bag, and now, people are flocking to a woman who is as repulsive as can be?

Trump has the dirt on Harris. He got it while he was President. That’s probably what the FBI was looking for at Mar-a-lago.

    Harris is toast.

    She isn’t popular.

    She isn’t likable.

Her policies reek of communist authoritarianism.

    She’s of middling intelligence.

She was cruel and unjust as a DA

    She’s probably not Constitutionally qualified.

Trump has already said that she would be easier to defeat than Biden was.

She’s just a placeholder while the Democrat Party leaders bicker over who will run against Trump.

Or, she is the sacrificial cackle goat because everyone knows that Trump is going to win.

This is not to say that Trump is some sort of messiah figure. He’s got a lot of bad policy ideas, and seems to curiously be incapable of hiring people who won’t stab him repeatedly on the back (and I’m looking right at JD Vance when I say this).

The assassination attempt tells me, though, that the proggie froggies know they won’t be able to cheat their way into the White House this year. I expect more attempts.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

There’s massive gaslighting and manufacturing of support going on right now to make her seem like a viable inevitability or at least choice. I don’t understand how some of the doom and gloomers have ever achieved anything in their lives: the smallest obstacle or hitch in the outcome and they go from hopeful to unreasonably hopeless. A move towards any sentient Democratic candidate was inevitable if one was presented and one, albeit a deeply flawed one as you say, has been.

      • cavalier973

The Democrat party leaders are preventing any other nomination.

        What does that tell you?

Even regular Democrats would pick just about anybody else for their party’s nominee—but they won’t be allowed to do it.

      • Sean

CBS Philly is running a chryon right now “2024 Voters decide”.

The irony was not lost on me.

    • Chipping Pioneer

I’ve heard the claim that she’s Constitutionally unqualified a few times. I don’t understand. Was she also born in Kenya?

      • cavalier973

So, logically, she is completely not qualified.

      • Chipping Pioneer

Oooohhh… a corporate press fact check!

      • cavalier973

Kamala is ethnically East Indian, not African

      • Chipping Pioneer

Even though the verdict may be correct, the corporate press still can’t help themselves. They don’t even bother to attempt to steelman the claim. Then there’s this bit:

The claim was amplified by comments made by former U.S. President Donald J. Trump in 2020, who said in a news conference, opens new tab that he would have to look into whether Harris was eligible to serve as vice president.

Probably some dumbass Reuters reporter tried to bait him with a gotcha question and he responded with something like, “I don’t know. I’ll look into it.”

    • cavalier973

So, I was wrong about the “not African” thing.

  20. cavalier973

Obama hasn’t endorsed Kamala, as of the time of this post, so I suspect the fight is still on.
    Obama versus Clinton.
