BREAKING — CIA ADMITS LYING TO CONGRESS ABOUT HUNTER’S LAPTOP: NY Post has the story here. I predict that this will be upstaged by other news events, and conveniently forgotten by the left.

ALSO THE TITLE OF AN ALBUM BY FLEETWOOD MAC: I normally don’t do rumors, but I’ve heard speculation that Biden is planning to resign tonight to steal the news cycle from Trump who is set to give a speech to the RNC tonight. That would also conveniently bury the story above.

A DESPERATE AND SHODDY ATTACK: “MAGA Makes Racist Attacks Against JD Vance’s Wife” trumpets the headline of a breathless Newsweek article. And who are these people, and what are these attacks? Weak sauce opinions about Senator Vance and immigration from some minor hangers-on in the movement while waltzing right past the fact that the chief MAGAt (to use their childish vitriol) chose Vance as his running mate knowing full well that his wife was of South Asian descent and (possibly) a practicing Hindu. The real hatred, and actually directed against the lovely and intelligent Ms. Vance, came from progressive activist Saira Rao, who tweeted: “Usha Vance, the latest Indian American woman delighted to do the bidding of white supremacy. Who needs white women when brown ones are ready to serve.” Remember, folks — the media is the enemy.

ANOTHER DESPERATE AND SHODDY ATTACK: They really hate this guy. Although fear would probably be a more accurate description. He’s young, likeable, and gives lie to their narratives about racism and Christian nationalism. He could end up being president for ten years. That has them shitting themselves.

VIRGINIA UTILITY EXPLORES SMALL MODULAR REACTORS: These are small, uranium fueled, reactors. I’d rather see widespread adoption of molten salt Thorium reactors, but this is far better than solar or (onshore) windmills.

SOME LIKE IT HOT: Danish nanny agency decides that “dangerously hot” flavors of ramen are okay after all. The banned noodles clocked in at an unimpressive 13,000 Scoville Hotness Units. Pussies.

NOBODY TO LIKE: New York (state) Department of Environmental Conservation seize 11-foot, 750 pound, pet alligator after owner’s license expires.

WTF, NASA? The space agency has cancelled the VIPER lunar rover program, citing cost overruns. Sorry, I don’t believe it. When have cost overruns ever stopped a government program before? The VIPER rover was already assembled and undergoing environmental testing. Yet NASA continues to throw money at the Mars Sample Return program. I suspect this is a symptom of bigger problems; I constantly hear rumblings about the Artemis crewed exploration program being in trouble.

Hilarious that on one side is VP is a hillbilly married to an Indian (dot, not feather) and the Presidential candidate is a kraut married to a Slav. Versus a (fake) Papist married to a divorcee with a half black/Indian VP. The Waspish person in this whole mix is Dr Jill.

    • Drake

I’ll wager pardons would be in his departure deal.

      • SDF-7

Would it technically need to be if he issues them before stepping down (or the 25th is voted on by the Cabinet?)

I mean — he’ll probably think he’s ordering ice cream… but that’s what we’ve dealt with for the last 3.6 years, so just as legal.

  2. SDF-7

Another reason to get FRAU DOKTOR JILL to let him step down. Then they can admit everything about Hunter’s laptop and the Crime Family (and no reasonable prosecutor would put a frail old man with failing memory on the stand…).

Whoa there! That’s why Scandinavians settled in MN. None of that exotic stuff ’til they started letting in all the refugees. The hot dishes will never be the same.

      • EvilSheldon

The Scandis also drink Jeppson’s Malört. I don’t know if I’d talk too much shit, myself.

  7. SDF-7

I’d rather see widespread adoption of molten salt Thorium reactors

I’m fine with both being explored / researched (though I thought there’d been more than one molten salt thorium site over the past few decades to try it), but as far as I can recall, the maintenance due to having to let the salt cool, potential radioactive material mixed with the salt in the hot loop (depending on the design), the strain on the pumps, etc. give them appreciable downsides.

I like small and modular if they can deliver maintenance free for X years (like 20 or 30, just plop the sealed unit down and plug it in as a micro-grid station, then pick it up when it is time to maintain it) and providing more flexibility and less potential for hazard / extreme siting regulations (if they work in a container model and don’t need 5000 years of seismic history for regulation), etc.

But yeah — anything is better than overpriced peak load sources like wind and solar. I’m all about keeping energy cheap and reliable — that’s what our economy and society requires.

    • Tonio

Interestingly, the North Anna site where they want to put this is near a minor faultline. During the magnitude 5.8 earthquake of 2011 the reactors shut themselves down automatically. Which is exactly what they are supposed to do. Yet, hippies screeched.

      • UnCivilServant

render the hippies down for oil, that should run a power plant for decades.

    • R.J.

Molten Salt Thorium Reactors sounds like a good spicy noodle flavor.

Meanwhile, the Boeingnauts are still stuck

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

They’re going to have to call Elon I’d think. Do the dirty Russkies still mess with the ISS? Maybe they can get them down.

      • Tonio

Yes, the Russkies still fly Soyuz spacecraft to ISS. It’s their only crew destination, these days. IIRC, a Russian cosmonaut was supposed to be rotated out on the return flight of Starliner, but Ruscosmos said “nyet” to that before the Boeing craft even lifted off.

      • R C Dean

Man, when your hardware is too dangerous for Russians . . . .

        That’s gotta sting.

    • kinnath

Roger Hallam, Daniel Shaw, Louise Lancaster, Lucia Whittaker De Abreu and Cressida Gethin were found guilty last week of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance for coordinating direct action protests on the M25 over four days in November 2022.

Hallam received a five-year sentence on Thursday, while the other four were each sentenced to four years.

The sentences are thought to be the longest sentences even given in the UK for non-violent protest, exceeding those given to the Just Stop Oil protesters Morgan Trowland (three years) and Marcus Decker (two years and seven months) for scaling the Dartford Crossing.

      • SDF-7

From this side of the Pond, Stonehedge looked like a tipping point — they lost any sympathy and I think they’ll all be actually prosecuted when they try any crap.

Who would have guessed that Trump would manage to pick yet another person who’s as bad as Hitler for his VP pick? Although, I’m pretty sure with Vance being a Millennial, there goes the window for a Gen X candidate.

Given that the Set of Republicans Running for Office is always a Sub-Set of People Worse Than Hitler… no one’s all that surprised. The Venn Diagram of Democrat Disgust lives on.

The thing about America is that it’s not a group of people with shared history. In fact, I think a lot of people would argue it’s quite the opposite. It’s a lot of people with different histories, different heritages.

Hence e pluribus unum, you blathering ignorant twat.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Alex Wagner say something that wasn’t stupid. I don’t know where MSNBC finds these people.

3 out of 4 of those.

      • R C Dean

I don’t think I’ve seen a Trump v Harris Arizona poll yet. As I recall, Trump is up over Biden by 7 points, something like that, in Arizona. So I would expect a similar result for Harris.

The great thing about Harris is, the more visible, the less popular. Plus the cheap fake machine will have a heyday with Gaffe-o-Matic Harris. Should be more fun than Biden, if it happens.

  12. JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

I need to read more closely. I clicked on that link expecting hot Danish nannies.

The decision to axe the VIPER mission was announced today (July 17) in a teleconference; cancelling the program is expected to save the agency an additional $84 million in development costs. NASA has spent about $450 million on the program so far, not including launch costs.

And here I thought that throwing good money after bad was the government’s entire raison d’être.

Hopefully they can expand this gimlet eyed approach to Medicaid, EBT, Head Start, etc.

  14. The Late P Brooks

I think the doctrinaire leftists are more upset by miscegination than anybody else, at this point.

    • KSuellington

It won’t be tonite but it is coming real soon. Kamalamadingdong is almost ready for her close up. It went exactly as predicted, first some Dem Congress critter backbenchers started calling for Biden to drop out, then some governors and higher up the totem pole Dems. Now we are at the Pelsoi and Obama unsubstantiated reports that they are asking him to leave. It’s just around the corner. And the only way they do it is with Cackles. A few months back I though Michelle was gonna change her mind and save their asses but now it’s all Madame VP.

      • Fatty Bolger

Yep. Simply the culmination of a plan that kicked off when a presidential debate was weirdly held in June, instead of the usual late September.

      • kinnath

Which letter in the quiltbag will be represented by commala’s VP selection?

      • EvilSheldon

Either an L or a reasonably passable T. God doesn’t love us quite enough for our next VP to be a Therian.

      • KSuellington

They are gonna go All Woman Power on this one. Whitmer or another high ranking Dem woman.

      • kinnath

So the VP must be a woman married to a woman.

      • KSuellington

Good call FB. I can already hear the speech:

“What can be now unburdened by what has been but only if we can solve our past mistakes, mistakes by those, while not us, can only be alleviated by what is now, the us that is us now. In a spirit or inclusion and recognizing our past while embracing our future. Being our best selves.”

      • The Other Kevin

Maybe she’ll do something about the border, like appoint someone to be in charge of it.

      • R C Dean

        Jeebus, KSue. That’s just eerie.

      • Compelled Speechless

How much nitrous did you have to huff to get in the headspace to make that sound so authentically Kamala?

    • Tonio

Sorry, I haven’t been keeping up with the comments lately. Hat tip to you. Just the tip, I swear.

    Minor oversight.

    • Urthona

      I kinda don’t understand.

Biden is well within winnable range right now. The worst metrics have him with a 25% chance of winning.

With each passing day, it gets to be more of a circus with the ballot fights and shit.

      • R.J.

Yes. It will remain a tossup and will be fought in the electoral college. Trump knows this and has a lot of people on the ground in swing states and even potential swing states. That is the one thing that might give him that narrow edge.

      • Gustave Lytton

There’s a perceived power vacuum. Sharks are circling.

“First of all, I think you’re dead wrong on national security. You saw what happened recently in terms of the meeting we had with NATO. I put NATO together. Name me a foreign leader who thinks I’m not the most effective leader in the world on foreign policy,” Biden said, raising his voice.

“Tell me! Tell me who the hell that is! Tell me who put NATO back together!”

I, I, I, alone can hold back the Armies of Darkness.

He’s ranting that the voters are idiots for thinking OMB is better on foreign policy / national security.

Throughout the interview, a seemingly frustrated Biden called out Holt and journalists for not spending time scrutinizing Trump’s lies at the debate or statements made by Trump’s vice presidential pick, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), about his running mate in years past.

“He’s said some things about me, but see what he said about Trump,” Biden told the news anchor. “What’s with you guys? C’mon man.”

Where are those questions my people gave you, Lester? Did you forget which pocket you put them in?

    • The Other Kevin

That still gets me. Lester Hold interviewed him, and he was mad the interview wasn’t them talking about how bad Trump was for an hour.

It’s decades of kid gloves all the time. They’ve declared themselves the winners of all arguments and the “real intellectuals” with zero examination. When was the last time you saw a lefty in the media that could put up a genuinely good fight in a debate? Their ability to reason and think critically has completely atrophied. Watch the debate between Malcom Gladwell and Douglas Murray as an example.

Source close to Biden pushes back on calls for him to step aside

    Mike Memoli

A source close to Biden is blaming senior Democratic leaders for “[giving] us Donald Trump,” as calls for Biden to step aside grow.

“Can we all just remember for a minute that these same people who are trying to push Joe Biden out are the same people who literally gave us all Donald Trump? In 2015, Obama, Pelosi, Schumer pushed Biden aside in favor of Hillary; they were wrong then, and they are wrong now,” the source told NBC News.

The source pointed to polling in the 2016 election that found Hillary Clinton leading by as much as 9 points.

“How did all this work out for everyone in 2016? Perhaps we should learn a few lessons from 2016; one of them is polls are BS, just ask Sec. Clinton. And two, maybe, just maybe, Joe Biden is more in touch with actual Americans than Obama-Pelosi-Schumer?” the source added.

That is unusually blunt language representing the views of the people closest to Biden, who are increasingly frustrated with the lack of loyalty from party leaders. It shows that the scars of 2015, when Biden felt pushed aside by Obama in favor of Clinton, are still showing.

    • Compelled Speechless

Yes, the lack of loyalty is so sudden and unforeseen. It’d be a real shame if backstabbing became normalized in DC.

  25. The Late P Brooks

    Things have never looked better

The Biden campaign isn’t worried, as they argue that their fundraising and volunteer efforts have been strong in the past two weeks.

“On every metric that matters, data shows it did nothing to change the American people’s perception, our supporters are more fired up than ever, and Donald Trump only reminded voters why they fired him four years ago and failed to expand his appeal beyond his MAGA base,” Biden for President campaign chair Jen O’Malley said in a statement.

    Okay, Baghdad Betty.

    • Urthona

This is a fascinating time to browse social media because I’ll see a “source” saying Biden’s about to drop out followed by one saying Joe is more determined than ever to stay in. And this is going back and forth all day.

      • Sensei

        Yup.

The party wants him out. The WH wants to stay. Dueling narratives and sources.

      • Urthona

        I’m enjoying it.

The longer this keeps up the more likely they really fuck themselves.

      • Gustave Lytton

There’s opportunity now before the nomination. Could be anyone, and even more possibles for the VP slot. Once the party commits to Biden, it’s him (or Biden/Kamala) or Trump for four more years.

I am looking forward to the pro-Kamala memes. How will they spin it? Dark Kamala? No, that’s raycist. The unificationizer?

And no one is paying a price for publicly voicing any of these statements. Will only encourages more of it.

I’m only just now starting to see Biden ads on the streaming shows I watch. Seems a little late for that.

        I’m not!

I think that’s old news. Teslas took over from Audi, who took over from BMW, who took over from…

I think most drivers suck, regardless of their brand preference.

I got behind a Tesla with Indiana plates on a somewhat winding road the other day. They were doing 30 in a 55 because apparently slight curves freaked them out. But when we got to the straitaways, they would speed up so I couldn’t pass. Not deliberately, I’m fairly certain – they were just a pussy driver.

      • Tundra

The perfect excuse for a PIT maneuver.

      • Gustave Lytton

That’s pretty much every two lane mountain road here. The Califuctards do it on I5, too.

      • Suthenboy

Once a long time ago a driver pissed me off very badly. Driving too slow and not a steady speed etc…very annoying. I was cussin’ and spitting and finally got a chance to pass.
As I passed I looked over to see who would drive so badly and saw a little old lady with dark sunglasses barely tall enough to see over the dash white-knuckling the wheel.
        Yes, I am a shithead.

      Tesla vs Tesla

Kind of like this one. Every sort of “driver assistance” tech known to man and even it is no match for the true idiot.

Even so, many grassroots organizers have directed volunteers to avoid mentioning Biden in their voter outreach, finding that his name disengages voters and undercuts their efforts. Instead, these groups have focused on issue-based messaging surrounding the Republican Party’s Project 2025, a path which MVP warns is unsustainable in the absence of a compelling presidential candidate.

“We can’t speak for everyone, but many local voter engagement groups in swing states have been contorting themselves, doing electoral gymnastics, to try to elect Biden without talking about Biden,” Tobi said. “The truth is that they’ve been sounding the alarm about this for a long time, but it took until the debate for people to listen.”

    You’re fired

… in the wake of the shooting, several people across the country have faced repercussions after sharing posts on social media that appeared to express disappointment that the attempt on Trump’s life failed. A Trump spokesperson has been contacted for comment via email.

    ——-

Social media campaigns to get ordinary Americans fired “for expressing political opinions or making jokes are illiberal and contribute to a climate of fear and self-censorship,” Aaron Terr, director of public advocacy at the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, told Newsweek.

“Every time businesses cave to these demands, they encourage more of the same,” Terr said. “And when the employer is the government, the firings raise serious First Amendment concerns. To escape the cancel culture cycle, Americans need to embrace dialogue and criticism as alternatives to imposing devastating life consequences on people for their opinions.”

“Too stupid to work here” should be the extent of any explanation.

    • R C Dean

“Every time businesses cave to these demands, they encourage more of the same,”

How many of those people were fired due to social media campaigns, which are the essence of cancelling, and how many were fired because they pissed off the boss/the company?

I haven’t really heard of any social media campaigns naming and shaming people, outside of a few public figures, but maybe I just missed them.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

We’re now at a time where, in a bid to “fight back”, many on the right are using the tactics used by the left in the peak of the cancel culture era. They see it as retribution for the last several years.

That said, although I definitely see the appeal of revenge for the censorship, beration, etc of the last 8 or so years, I agree with FIRE in that if we want a free and open society, we need to display those attitudes and refrain from it.

Regarding the Biden rumors and dueling narratives, BBC has just reported “Pressure mounts on Biden…”; Radio NZ reported 15 minutes ago, “Biden ‘soul searching’ about dropping out of race”; Australian Broadcasting News has the same headline as RNZ. RNZ is getting it from Rueters; ABC is getting it from unspecified US media sources.

BBC is quoting congress-critter Adam Smith (WA) saying Biden should drop out AND the nomination shouldn’t “automatically” go to the current vice-president.

Do you speak with people back home? What’s the attitude about OMB likely back in the Big Chair?

      • Raven Nation

I think it seems to be similar to here: the well-educated people who get their news from the correct sources understand that Trump will destroy the world. More of the “average joe” types don’t necessarily love him but they think the fear is overrated. Then, of course, there’s a large group of “fuck America.”

I will say there seems to be few people who look at Trump and go, “guys an arsehole, but some of his ideas are OK.” And, part of that is that there are concerns over unregulated immigration into Australia as well.

      • Tundra

        Interesting. Thank you.

I’m always kind of surprised how people even give a fuck about the politics in other countries. I’ve tried to pay attention, but I find most other places completely baffling.

    • R.J.

The only way they get him out is never let him in public again and say “He told us he wanted out!” Which I expect. He would never make a dignified speech saying he was leaving the race.

Thankfully, everything was covered under our warranty, but we asked what the costs would’ve looked like if we had to pay out of pocket. Both axles would’ve added up to $622.85, the carrier differential would’ve been $1,561.12, gear oil would’ve added $90.72, and labor would’ve set us back $2,995. The whole repair could have totaled more than $5,200 if it wasn’t covered under warranty.

Fuck you, Ford. These new vehicles are just not up to real life. Remember those Top Gear episodes when they tried to kill a Hilux and they couldn’t?

Fucking 80K car and it’s garbage.

Fuck their fucking dealer network, too. They killed good dealerships and service depts in favor of multi location stealership chains ten years ago. Look at how PTT ARod, probably one of the best two or three Ford techs on YouTube, got fired from his dealership. What a loss (to that dealer).
