¡Martes por la tarde! ¡Enlaces mexicanos!

This sucks

On Sunday I decided to change it up a bit. Typically, my son and I will do a set of deadlift, followed by a superset of pull ups, since the platform we use allows us to do both. So I did behind the head pull ups and I can’t decide if I just don’t have that kind of flexibility in my shoulders or they just suck that bad. Because its Tuesday and I am still feeling them.

Fine…I’ll do them again next Sunday.

¡Enlaces!

Mexico’s judicial reform measures criticized by US Ambassador. AMLO correctly responds by asking the US not to meddle in their democracy.

Maybe Mexico should ban guns?

This might get interesting should the Orange Man get elected, reimpose tariffs on Chinese imports, and they simply respond by using Mexico as a middleman.

Dangit. I’ve been telling other Scottsdale people my rationale for not buying a Tesla is the infrastructure won’t allow me to flee to Mexico in an electric car. It used to end the conversation since they didn’t want to know why I would flee to Mexico.

Why yes, the fires were started intentionally. It allows the owner to clear his land for more economical purposes than just letting trees live on their property.

Okay what was the number pre-El Presidenté Dudebro?

I propose we simply import Milei and elect him president. If nobody else seems to give a shit what about what is constitutional, why should I?

Here’s a tune, have a great Tuesday.

    One a day?
    Sounds like a good start

    • mexican sharpshooter

One what a day? Pullups? Last time I went to exhaustion I did 12. Chin ups I can get to 16-18 dpending on how you want to count the last few.

        I think he meant people.

        The link to El president,

        My bad.

        Your link, too.

The attorney general’s office counted 366 people who went missing in the 12 months to May 31 this year, the Working Group for Missing Persons in El Salvador, an association of nine NGOs, reported on Wednesday.

El Salvador’s government, meanwhile, reports more than 650 days without any homicides since President Nayib Bukele came to power in June of 2019.

Can’t prove someone was murdered if you don’t have a body.

    • Suthenboy

I had long ago written off El Salvador. I didn’t think they would ever claw their way out of the complete savagery they had descended into. I am impressed.
I am not going into detail about my views on the matter.

  3. The Other Kevin

I will do those pullups occasionally, but my shoulder flexibility is terrible so it’s not fun. I also don’t do behind the neck presses for that same reason. My PT says I have some kind of pitcher’s something or other.

Related, I did some heavy chest work Sunday, followed by hockey, then more pushes today and now might right shoulder feels like I pulled something. Hopefully it will go away with rest, because official practices start in a week.

    • mexican sharpshooter

I’m feeling better since I wrote that this morning. Might’ve just been tight.

    • Tundra

Just hang from the bar. It’s the best therapy I’ve ever leaned for shoulders.

      • Mojeaux

I think DEG did that for a slipped disc in his back.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

I used to love hanging. I’d get the best stretch. But since my shoulder surgery about a year, it’s a no-go.

  4. Suthenboy

I think Trump addressed the Chinese/Mexico problem yesterday. He said NO.

    • Fourscore

He’s waiting for Mexico to finish paying for the wall.

  5. Fourscore

“This might get interesting should the Orange Man get elected, reimpose tariffs on Chinese imports,”

Yay, Trumponomics! He must have learned a lot at Wharton.

  6. Suthenboy

Latin America has an electric infrastructure superior to our own? Or they love them a good scam?

  7. KK, Plump & Unfiltered

Speaking of Mexico – I was yesterday years old when I first learned about chilaquiles. Now I’m probably gonna have to learn to make it.

    • The Other Kevin

      That is a great dish.

    • mexican sharpshooter

I eat that for breakfast all the time.

      • mexican sharpshooter

Interesting, its not really an AZ thing.

  8. Suthenboy

It is funny to me how the bitching about third world countries developing their land comes from lands that are already developed.
The forests of NA were easily on par with those of SA once. Not very productive but very impressive.

    • Pine_Tree

As much as I’d naturally love to see the original forests of North America, I do feel compelled to point out that a bunch of folks ackshually did get a whole lot of productivity out of them, like naval stores, building a ton of stuff (capital and consumeables), burning to power operations where you didn’t have coal or water head, etc.

      • Suthenboy

That is true. Timber came first and there was slash and burn style agriculture. Naturally it had little to no topsoil. The best thing we did for the land was keep livestock on it for a few hundred years. Manure goes a long way to making productive soil.

I remember reading a settler’s account of GA writing about oak, pine, poplar, walnut, cypress and chestnut forests with trees an average in 10 feet at the base. Also, he saw buffalo, elk and a moose in GA.
And ‘wildcats’ which I presume meant panthers. I know there were jaguar in Louisiana at that time.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Catamounts, what I have heard them called. And there were wolves all over Europe at one time, along with bears and ginormous pigs.

‘Course they did what we did too, only earlier.

    • Rat on a train

It’s a never ending battle with the trees here. They think it’s their land.

      • Suthenboy

Thankfully we have the same problem.

    • R C Dean

      Interesting indeed.

  9. Shpip

In a conference to present the next head of Mexico’s state oil firm on Monday, President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum, who takes office in October, emphasized that the judicial reform aimed to improve democracy and had been carefully drafted to ensure candidates are legitimate.

“We will always have a dialogue with our trade partners such as the United States, but we don’t need to discuss everything,” she said. “Some issues are up to Mexican citizens.”

Obviously, Mexicans should get the OK from their neighbors to the north for every policy change above the local level. They’re in dire need of adult supervision, after all.

    • Social Justice is Neither

Neither the US or Canada has adults in charge at the moment.

  10. Shpip

Since Sloop didn’t cover it in his sports roundup this morning — did anyone catch the end of the Little League World Series Championship?

Completely unexpected, at least on my part.

  12. Ed Wuncler

Somewhat OT: I generally don’t argue politics on Facebook but I made an exception for this acquaintance I knew from college. he was ranting about Zuckerberg’s letter to Jim Jordan and then referring to them both as fascist.

I responded that perhaps instead of calling everything you don’t like fascist, do some research to see if these accusations are correct. And I also wrote that as much as he’s always in panic mode about Trump violation of our civil liberties and his upcoming dictatorship, he sure is quiet when his side violates people’s civil liberties especially the First Amendment. His response was as follows:

“Please. No, really, please. The first amendment? That thing the Republican Party wants to restrict? The administration reportedly asked social media companies to stop the flow of COVID misinformation because IT WAS KILLING PEOPLE. If you’re gonna piss on about the first amendment, at least be honest about what was going on. This wasn’t pressure to change the facts. This was pressure to DISPLAY the facts. These are not the same, and the fact that you think they are says a lot about you, man.”

    • Ed Wuncler

Followed up by: “Perhaps if social media companies were actually regulated like normal media companies, we wouldn’t have had any issue. But you libertarians freak out about the least governmental restrictions while you live under the heel of big business. I’ll take the elected representatives over unelected business leaders, thanks.”

I didn’t even respond because how do you reason someone from a position that they didn’t reason themselves into in the first place?

      • R.J.

Sorry. Your friend, like so many others needs mental help.

      • Chipping Pioneer

There is no mind there. It is only capable of repeating its team’s talking points.

      • Chipping Pioneer

        Also, you know Keith Olbermann?

      • Mojeaux

        The only adequate reply:

        “Cool story, bro.”

      • Ed Wuncler

I didn’t even respond back. I went on about my day and finished up some work.

      • Fourscore

We must have some of the same friends.

      • rhywun

This is the only thing I can think of.

LOL I sat down and watched that for the first time a couple days ago.

        So many references.

      • Sean

        You people need better friends.

        FR.

      • Suthenboy

You were correct. This is not a person you can engage with.
I am not sure where things go from here but I am not hopeful. We are a complete impasse with people like that and they are legion.

I think the but rule comes into play here: Everything before the ‘but’ is bullshit.
“I believe in free speech BUT…”

    • Drake

The way social media was strong armed by the Biden Administration was one of the first topics.
      https://tuckercarlson.com/tucker-show-rfk-jr

He sounds too deranged to listen to any counter argument without some serious deprogramming therapy.

      • Ed Wuncler

That’s why I didn’t even engage him after that. He has full blown TDS and we was always kind of politically daft but after 2016, he became a giant ignoramus.

    • EvilSheldon

Pressure to display the facts. Which, conveniently, are invariably distributed by those stalwart and honorable guardians of truth, the Democrats. Yeah, pardon me while I laugh.

Your friend doesn’t have politics – he has a cult, and a cult leader, and a collection of thought-stopping rituals that he’s clearly deeply ensnared in. Feel free to tell him so, but I’d expect the response to be, “Nuh-uh, you!!!”

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Way back in ’08, an old friend emailed me to say I needed to get on FaceBook, and so I did. It was cool to hear from old friends for about a month, and they Obama won. And the world went insane.

So, I left FB, as I quickly was reminded of all my “friends” being intolerant Dbags. Which was why I didn’t talk to them in the years between.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

This is the only social mediaesque thing I do. I prefer the old way where friends (or you) move away, you have no idea what they’re up to for the most part or even if they’re still alive, but you sincerely hope they’re doing well and you have little idea of their current motivations and likes or dislikes. It worked for tens of thousands of years and it still works now.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

There are three people that I have had contact with for the duration. One friend going all the way back to grade school*, another back to junior high**, and the third the start of college*** I know the ups and downs of their lives, and petty political BS isn’t going to derail long term friendships. We all know when we can push, and when to shut up.

*She is probably the most libertarian of the people I grew up with, outside of me.

**He is half Austrian and half NODAK, so who knows what he is thinking.

        ***Lives in SF. ‘Nuff said.

    • Grumbletarian

First, social media companies were not asked by the government to remove information it considered to be dangerous. They were threatened with legal or other adverse action if they didn’t do as they were told. “Nice social media company you got there, it’d be a shame if something bad were to happen to it.” Second, regardless of the information the government wanted removed being true or not, it still constitutes a restriction on speech. If I’m not allowed to express opinions and/or facts with which the government disagrees, then I have no right to free speech. The government declared that the information was killing people in order to justify actions it knew were blatantly unconstitutional. Third, what the Republicans want or don’t want to do with the First Amendment has no bearing whatsoever on objecting to what the Democrats want to do with it. Whataboutism: Noted and then ignored.

  13. Tundra

My shoulders don’t do that anymore. Chins only, thanks.

    What a perfect 90s song.

I can’t guess at Zuck’s true motivations but the idea that he submitted to “GOP bullying” is laughable.

      • Ed Wuncler

It’s pretty wild how they can make themselves look like the victims or heroes depending on the situation. They were caught red handed trying to influence the election and disregarding our First Amendment rights but yet they somehow make the GOP out to be the bad guys.

This what scares me about the Left especially Progressives. How they can disregard the evidence placed before them and still be convinced that they are good people even when they are destroying people’s lives. That kind of lack of awareness is how you get gulags and gas ovens.

      • Nephilium

The left still thinks they’re fighting “the Man”, even as they’ve been the man (for the past 30 years at least). It hurts my brain to see the same people that were all for smashing the system years ago working to enforce the system even harder.

      • Ed Wuncler

What’s even crazier is that being a Conservative/Right Winger is now counter culture while being on the Left is basically being the system.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

To at least 95% of San Fran, Republicans are the root of all evil, so, yeah, they would see it as their fault.

And, they didn’t sell out, they bought it!

        Sigh. Bought IN, not it.

      • Tundra

        Excellent.

  19. The Late P Brooks

    Definitive

Harris campaign spokesperson Lauren Hitt said Harris was “proud to cast the tie-breaking vote” for Biden’s climate law, the Inflation Reduction Act, which she said helped spur 300,000 new energy jobs.

“Vice President Harris is focused on a future where all Americans have clean air, clean water, and affordable, reliable energy while Trump’s lies are an obvious attempt to distract from his own plans to enrich oil and gas executives at the expense of the middle class,” she wrote in a statement.

Focused. Like a laser. Pony not included.

  20. The Late P Brooks

That person said it is unlikely the campaign will soon release specific policy positions, though that may come in the future. It instead will highlight Harris’ broad vision and her record, such as pushing for lead pipe removal to expand clean drinking water, promoting electric bus manufacturing and advocating for bolstering resilience to wildfires and drought.

Don’t fret, she’ll fill in the blanks after she’s elected.

Re Milei: Christ that fully reveals the inherent nature of People (who want to remain) In Power. Triple their own fucking salaries to match the triple-digit inflation Argentina is going through.

Uh. Fuck. Can’t even pretend to not only care about their own glorious benefits and well-being, and that of their progeny.
*SHOCKER! See also: All of human history. We’re social primates. People too oft forget this fact, and that our species has its own ways of procuring the best for their progeny. Namely: Land; resources; mates.

(We are tricksy animals, tho. Hence poker (esp) being so fun. Sometimes ‘getting along’ means losing, as in, being worse off in one’s personal goals.)

Fun Edit: The dumb shit I’ve done…I deserve all criticism. I own it. Use it to bounce back.

Also fun: It’s impossible to “offend” or even mock me. I can make fun of myself FAR better than anyone else.
