Monday Morning Links

Well the EPL got off to a fun start this weekend. The NFL preseason is getting going, although you can never learn much from it. The Astros remain hotted are finally looking like a playoff team. And F1 is back this coming weekend. All is well in the world of sports. Now let’s see how that compares with the rest of the world.

The headline is misleading, as usual. Hamas could have a cease-fire any time they want. They just need to lay down their weapons and surrender all the terrorists and also release all the hostages that are still alive. Pretty simple, really.

I’d all but forgotten about this crazy bastard. Unfortunately, this reminded me that he exists. And now you have to suffer as well.

Well, what are you gonna do about it? My guess is nothing. I hope I’m wrong. But my confidence in the body is at its usual low.

Actions have consequences. Hopefully this is just the start.

Fight! Fight! Fight! Yeah, you don’t spit on someone just doing their job. You just don’t do it.

That counts as “problematic” these days?” Hell, I thought that was acceptable. I guess I need an updated grievance chart.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!! This woman is clearly hysterical.

And nothing will happen. Hell, I’m surprised it even made the news.

These guys rarely missed. They sure didn’t with that track. And here’s another good one. And it doesn’t get the airplay it deserves. Enjoy them both.

And enjoy this lovely Monday, dear friends.

Well, what are you gonna do about it? My guess is nothing. I hope I’m wrong. But my confidence in the body is at its usual low.

He’s just an elderly man with memory issues — no reasonable prosecutor would pursue this. After all — what difference, at this point, does it make?

Sarcasm aside — they probably could actually get something through since PPP’s usefulness to the Party is at an end… but I doubt they’d want to make Kamalamadingdong look bad before the election, so likely not anyway. And that means even a perfunctory resolution through the House (which is by no means a given with all the squishy squishy “GOP” members there), it is dead in the Senate.

But this is the House GOP…. meaningless chatter is what they do. Budgets and lawmaking? That’s left to the staff and Critical Funding Continuing Resolutions.

    • The Wrath of ZWAAAAAAKKKK!!!

An impeachment would take way too long, so is kind a useless at this point. He is already out the door, what with the “not gonna run” coupe.

      • SDF-7

So we’ll just wait him out while he lounges in his sedan?

      • sloopyinca

They need to impeach him if for nothing else than to force Schumer to do something like he did with Mayorkas and have a vote without a trial. They could campaign on that endlessly.

      • SDF-7

The electorate doesn’t seem to notice little things like “not following the Constitution” or “illegal acts”, Sloopy.

That Kamala is “brat” and bribes has TikTok influencers! That’s what’s important!

Have to say this one hit a little too close to home….

  2. SDF-7

Yeah, you don’t spit on someone just doing their job.

Winston’s Mom says: “Stay away from my income streams, dammit!”

    • DrOtto

      Income streams or incoming streams?

  3. The Wrath of ZWAAAAAAKKKK!!!

Yeah, Allison Moyet could really sing, but Yazoo never took off here in the states. At least, not among anyone I knew.

  4. SDF-7

That counts as “problematic” these days?” Hell, I thought that was acceptable. I guess I need an updated grievance chart.

I really don’t care now — and am looking forward to someday retiring (ha!) so I can care even less. At least there’s solace in that this level of insanity can’t continue (I just don’t like how it will likely end for Western Civilization and all…)

    • DrOtto

You know it’s not really problematic if it’s spelled “tranny” vs “t****y”.

  5. Ted S.

    These guys rarely missed.

    Yaz were so much better.

    • The Other Kevin

No love for Erasure? They just swapped out a male androgenous singer for the female androgenous singer.

      • The Wrath of ZWAAAAAAKKKK!!!

I think Yas was so good because Allison Moyet didn’t have a voice that normally is associated with new wave, and is much more of a big blues type voice.

Do people really believe all that? They’d have to be living in a tight echo chamber in order to conceive and nurture such wildly inaccurate views.

Columbia University: How do we get them out of every university?

    • The Wrath of ZWAAAAAAKKKK!!!

That was my thought. (((they))) should be enrolling en masse and showing up with body guards, JDL kids with bats, and making a spectacle out of it. Show everyone what the fuck is really going on there.

      • Nephilium

So the students should pay for the privilege of going somewhere they’re hated?

      • The Wrath of ZWAAAAAAKKKK!!!

Jews should reclaim area’s they once felt safe in, and remake them safe.

My great-grand father, the Old Jew, got is Doctorate at Colombia, and NYC was once safe for Jews overall. We cannot let these POS’s take over.

Plus, they are gonna have to pay no matter where they go if this shit keeps up.

      • Ted S.

Can they reclaim the proper use of apostrophes too?

      • Suthenboy

Jewish kids going into the breach with body guards is not going to reclaim that place for them. Ditching the faculty at these universities will. It looks to me like the marxists in Academia need to be burned root and branch. They are absolute poison not just for colleges but for society as a whole. That is the whole point of critical theory, after all – to poison the well for all of us.

      • The Wrath of ZWAAAAAAKKKK!!!

Well, I would rather see private actions to force integration, as opposed to sending federal troops in.

And I sure as shit don’t want the racists to win. Fuck them.

The headline is misleading, as usual. Hamas could have a cease-fire any time they want. They just need to lay down their weapons and surrender all the terrorists and also release all the hostages that are still alive. Pretty simple, really.

The reason Hamas is still going, despite deserving an even harder drubbing, is the support from the marxist idiots that believe if you are a victim according to their warped view of what constitutes the oppressors (those that are successful and value merit) and the oppressed (marxist losers and all other sorts of evil fucks), you can’t be in the wrong. I am personally happy Hamas has decided not to beg for mercy, since the longer this goes on, the more of them can end up visiting Allah in hell.

    • The Other Kevin

It makes zero sense for Israel to have a cease fire. They need to destroy as much of Hamas as possible. If they ease up Hamas will regroup and come right back. Someone will always take the place of Hamas, but why give them a head start?

When I read this article, saying that more than 30% of public school teachers are sending their kids to private schools in Chicago, I scoured it to find out if they had looked to find out if that 30%+ of public school teachers sending their kids to private schools represented 100% of public school teachers that could afford private schools. Because my bet is that if more of these public school teachers could afford it, the number sending their kids to private school would be far, far, higher.

    • Rat on a train

A good metric of the quality of the school system.

    • sloopyinca

Because my bet is that if more of these public school teachers could afford it, the number sending their kids to private school would be far, far, higher.

“This guy is absolutely right. CPS teachers are woefully underpaid. They can’t even afford to send their kids to decent schools!”
      Randi Weingarten (probably)

    • The Wrath of ZWAAAAAAKKKK!!!

I grew up in a town with only one HS, out side of a small Catholic college prep. A few teachers sent there kids there, mostly as they didn’t want the kids to deal with being that kids whose parent was a teacher. Of course, there were a few kids who had to deal with that.

      • Nephilium

As a kid who went to a private school where their mom taught (Phys Ed, to make it even worse), it was not a pleasant experience.

      • Rat on a train

It is probably different at the high school level. I spent two years in elementary school in the same class where my mother worked as a teacher’s assistant. The upside was the teacher never sent a note to my parents. My kids also went to the same school were my wife worked.

    • DrOtto

That’s some nice police parenting work, Lou

Four children in a stolen vehicle were shot in north Minneapolis early Sunday, police said.

Around 1 a.m., police got a 911 call about a shooting in the 1400 block of Plymouth Avenue North.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said there were five minors in a stolen Kia. According to the chief, a sedan started following and shooting at the stolen Kia with a fully automatic weapon. Four of the minors were shot — two boys and two girls between 11 and 14 years old.

One girl was shot in the head and is in critical condition. The other three suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

“Four kids shot between 11 and 14 is outrageous,” O’Hara said. “And everyone should be up in arms over it.”

Ummmm….. Chief, I’m a bit more upset by the fact that these kids were a) criminals, b) in a car they stole and c) out at 1am. I’m not going to lose much sleep over them getting shot. This wasn’t a modern day dynamiting of a church and having innocent choir girls getting killed.

    • slumbrew

a sedan started following and shooting at the stolen Kia with a fully automatic weapon.

      The sedan shot them?

      • AlexinCT

Must have been one of those racist cars like that SUV that plowed into a Christmas parade a few years back?

      • Pope Jimbo

It was like in the Blues Brothers. The sedan was an ex cop car and just started shooting.

      • Not Adahn

How old was the sedan that shot them? Is this just a case of lil’ rapscallion tykes?

      • DrOtto

        The gun discharged

      • Fourscore

It was fully automatic so of course it started shooting.

If 4 were between 11-14 so (12-13) how old was the groomer? Oops, I mean the #5

      • The Last American Hero

The other car was an Aston Martin DB 5 driven by a British man.

    • Suthenboy

I may be way off of the mark here but my instincts tell me that the story as written may be bullshit.

      • Pope Jimbo

I don’t know Suthen. Based on how Mpls has been going, I’m not surprised that there is a feral pack of kids roaming around that is known to authorities and other gang bangers.

It’s an effort Zion Baptist Church Pastor Brian Herron is actively working on. Herron said he’s “devastated” by what happened.

“I’m not condemning parents, what I’m saying is parents have to be parents,” he said. “And if they need help, let’s get them the help that they need.”

The pastor said he has been aware of this group of kids and is actively trying to get them help. He says it’s an issue that needs to be front and center.

I think Pastor Herron should consider condemning the parents who let their kids out at the late hours of the night to joy ride in stolen cars. We need more shame in our society and less laws.

      • Fourscore

Or just change the age of maturity to 11-14. Try them as adults.

Do I have to go racist or is this something just unsaid?

      • Tundra

Nope. Spend any time at all on CrimeWatch Minneapolis and these are fairly common. Unless a pretty serious course correction happens, Minneapolis will soon be Detroit.

  22. The Other Kevin

The DNC is upon us. With 100k lefty protesters I’m guessing we’ll see some violence. McCormick place is near the lake, and by museums and Soldier field, so there is a lot of asphalt and they can’t do too much damage. But it looks like the big speeches will be at United Center (where the Bulls and Blackhawks play), which is on the west side. There are apartments, stores, and restaurants within just a few blocks. I heard some were boarding up their windows. That’s where things could get easily out of hand.

      • Sean

        Wow

      • Sensei

    • Suthenboy

That’s SOP for them so yeah, that is exactly what they are going to do.
I heard one campaigner on TV yesterday Trump left office with the economy in shambles. Lester Holt was asking people in the street in NJ of all places what they thought of Trump and couldn’t find a Kamala voter. One man told him “I made a lot more money under Trump than I make now.” to which Holt asserted “would it surprise you to know the economy is much better now under Biden than it was under Trump?”. The guy let out a loud belly laugh, turned and walked away from Holt.
And yet the Hildebeast still stands a 97% chance of beating Trump.

      • R C Dean

Something weird is going on. The network actually aired that Lester Holt piece. Lots of DemOp outfits are dumping on Kamala’s price control thing, Is it possible the announced “Kamala has it in the bag” polling was all bullshit push polls, the real polling looks bad for her, and a counter-coup is being set up at the convention?

      • AlexinCT

Was it Lester Holt or Don Lemon?

      • Suthenboy

Lots of people have speculated that The Organism just used Kamala to get rid of Joe to get at the campaign money and they have some plan up their sleeve to dump her now. I have no idea who they really want…my guess would be that slime from CA but I have no idea how they would work that around.
Everything they do now just makes things worse for them. I dont see them winning this.

      • Suthenboy

I dunno Alex now that. you mention it.
Does it matter? Has anyone seen them in the same room at the same time?

Study by whom? And what level of stupid were the people they studied? Did they only pick marxist fools for their study sample? Was there any explanation of basic economics involved?

I mean, I agree there is a lot of stupid out there, but this level of stupid is even too much for me to contemplate.

      • Suthenboy

“Did they pick only marxist fools…”

No. Like all of the polls I have seen they just lie their asses off about the results.

The persons should have at least let it be known that the study is aimed at some sort of disaster which is triggering the anti-gouging.

Run that survey again, only call it “government controlled prices” rather than “anti-gouging policies”, and get back to me with the results.

Is there something in the water there? Can any of you Glibroni’s speak up about this phenomenon?

After selling Oculus to Facebook for $2.7 billion and then getting fired by Mark Zuckerberg for making a $10,000 donation to a pro-Trump troll group dedicated to “shitposting in real life,” Luckey tried his hand at building a nonprofit private prison chain that only gets paid when ex-prisoners stay out of prison. After he decided that would require too much lobbying work, he attempted to solve the obesity epidemic by making food out of petroleum products centrifuged out of the sewer system—a perfectly delicious and low-calorie idea, he maintains, which he only ditched because of the “marketing nightmare” of persuading people to eat remanufactured sewage. In the end, he decided instead to found Anduril Industries, a defense technology startup that makes lethal autonomous weapons systems. It is now valued at $14 billion.

But what Musk – the new self-appointed Lord of Misrule – has done is to rip off the mask. He’s shown that you don’t even have to pretend to care. In Musk’s world, trust is mistrust and safety is censorship. His goal is chaos. And it’s coming.

Does the Pulitzer Prize have an alt-reality category?

Pffft. Forget a measly Pullitzer. We are talking Nobel Peace Prize here.

In Britain, the canary has sung. This summer we have witnessed something new and unprecedented. The billionaire owner of a tech platform publicly confronting an elected leader and using his platform to undermine his authority and incite violence. Britain’s 2024 summer riots were Elon Musk’s trial balloon.

He got away with it. And if you’re not terrified by both the extraordinary supranational power of that and the potential consequences, you should be.

    Peak Minnesoda food flame war?

A YouTube interview between Vice President Kamala Harris and running mate Gov. Tim Walz has set off a debate over Minnesota’s culinary preferences, culminating with an outrage-provoking criticism of the “walking taco” by a reporter who should have known better.

While some understood “white guy taco” to mean the type comprising flour tortillas (or maybe Ortega crunchy shells), ground beef, a bag of pre-shredded cheese, sour cream, and iceberg lettuce, Ingraham believes Walz may have been referring to the “walking taco.”

“This is probably what he’s talking about, btw,” Ingraham – who now works for the Minnesota Reformer – wrote. “They put ground beef and cheddar and maybe iceberg lettuce in a Doritos bag. They call it ‘taco in a bag’ and it should be illegal.”

Ingraham, who stood by the bag being a “crime against the culinary arts” in the replies, came back with a Google Trends report that says people in the Red River Valley – where he now lives – do call it “taco in a bag,” albeit it’s literally the only region in the U.S. that calls it that.

To be fair, this delicacy goes by many names. There’s a more southwestern version called Frito Pie, and there are versions of it — Dorilocos and Tostilocos — that street vendors sell in Mexico. There’s history around the walking taco, by whatever name you call it, and it’s not strictly a Midwestern history. (For more on that, Heavy Table ran a story about the walking taco’s legacy in 2020.)

    1) King Walz is a liar so it doesn’t matter what you think he said. He was just lying (or just trying to make a horrible lame joke)
    2) I’ve never heard of this taco in a bag before. I’ve put chili in Frito bags as a snack while camping with kids.
    3) I grew up just on the rim of the Red River Valley and have never heard anything called this. MikeS? You ever heard of this?

Uffda that was a dumb story.

    • pistoffnick (370HSSV)

It’s pretty common on the Iron Range. I’ve even seen it down in bluff country (SE Minnesoda).

Walking tacos are popular at fairs around here. And at kids parties because cleanup is easy.

    • Nephilium

I had one for the first time at the Revolution game we brought my nephew to, a couple weeks ago.

Very tasty, especially for stadium food. Choice of beef chili or chicken, different sauces, etc.

My only complaint was it was actually too big, like the bottom third of a regular sized bag. I was stuffed. Just a snack-sized bag would have been plenty.

      • R.J.

Agreed. Stadium food is all mega size now.

    • kinnath

Walking Tacos have been a big thing around here for many years. They are very popular anytime you have to feed a lot of people and don’t have infrastructure to seat and serve them at the same time.

Lately I’ve been saying things are so unpredictable lately I don’t even try to guess what will happen.

But it’s not going out on a limb to say we’re already in a recession and it will become official very soon.

      • Ted S.

If Kamala wins, they’ll change the definition of “recession” again.

      • trshmnstr

Here’s my take… The economy has been increasingly weird since 2008. The performance of the stock market has diverged from the performance of the economy in increasingly noticeable ways.

Covid accelerated the weirdness, and although the economy has stabilized, it’s still increasing in weirdness.

Anecdataly, my company has been extremely cautious for the past 4 years, even when we were raking in money. We have been under hiring and travel freezes for all but a handful of months since early 2020. Meanwhile, our numbers are about as good as we could ever expect. Layoffs are being rumored at the same time that a second good quarter in a row is rumored.

      • AlexinCT

The fucking retards in charge have been claiming the economy was great while pretending there was job recovery. That practically all the jobs they claimed to have created were in government and/or low wage part-time ones, and that most of those jobs seem to have gone to foreign invaders, if you discount the bullshit overinflated claims, is a tell. They have been masking the recession, and the jobs market is the tell.

BTW, the big layoffs have also started happening all over the place. These were supposed to wait until after the 2024 election was fortified, but these companies are no longer playing along.

      • R C Dean

That’s a big no-no, or used to be, anyway. In fact, they have talked about how the gearbox is supposedly locked in neutral until the car comes down (safety, you know). I guess that’s another “optional” feature in Penske’s version of the software.

I do buy whole raw milk from a local farm now…

      • Pope Jimbo

When I was a kid, we’d buy milk from the neighbor’s dairy. Sometimes it was pasteurized, but if we got there before it was done, we’d just get the raw milk.

3 gallon Tupperware bucket. The next morning Dad would skim off all the cream. Of course he never got all the cream, so you’d end up with little clots of cream in you glass of milk. I remember being so embarrassed when a Town Kid would come over for dinner. Their milk never had those clots.

I’m still a milk fiend. But it has to be whole milk. If I’m visiting, I might drink some 2%. Skim milk? I’ll shiv you for that.

      • ron73440

I’d guess probably less than the US, but it isn’t unheard of.

The big dairy product I’m missing is cheese. Everyone in the house here thinks it is pretty much rotten milk, so I’m not getting my daily dose of curdled milk now.

    Hard hitting journalism

A wave of changes have followed in Vice President Kamala Harris’ wake as she became the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee.

Black female artists such as Beyoncé and Lauryn Hill have replaced Biden campaign walk-on songs on event playlists. Harris ditched her plane on Sunday in Pittsburgh in favor of a western Pennsylvania bus tour.

And in a move that was reminiscent of Harris’ first presidential bid, she showed up to the trip wearing Chuck Taylors.

The Converse kicks had been a Harris staple when she competed for the Democratic nomination five years ago. While she was running for vice president, Harris wore them regularly. Yet, they had largely disappeared from view after she ascended to the second most powerful position in the country.

But as she began a campaign swing that runs through Milwaukee and Chicago, her signature footwear made their return. It was the latest example of Harris reasserting herself in the campaign she inherited from President Joe Biden in ways that are big and small.

Just wait ’til she breaks out the Mao Suit.

    • R.J.

I stopped wearing Chuck Taylors altogether a while back. Here is another reason to never wear them again.

Before milking, I would take him behind the barn and say, “Away to me”.

By the time I finished, all the cows would be in the pen that was attached to the parlor.

While the bus was in the town of Aliquippa, they stopped by a high school football practice.

At the ready-made opportunity for Walz, the former football coach told players politics is not so different from sports: everyone is in the game together. Harris talked to them about leadership and told the players they were role models for their peers.

I have seen the video of her saying it but I figured snopes would try to say she didn’t. Instead, unsurprisingly, they used some kind of pretzel reasoning that that isn’t the exact wording or the exact time she said not that or she stole it from someone etc etc.
Amazing duplicity and mendacity for a fact check site, but then they are all that way these days aren’t they? We should take a poll and see, then have that poll fact checked.

    • Suthenboy

I dont hear many people saying this explicitly but the economic problems we have now are by design. Bidenomics, a fake ass name, was designed and implemented to destroy our economy. As things began going to shit we were told not to believe our lying eyes and now we are being told Kamala, who was all onboard with marxist policies while VP will somehow ‘fix’ things. What she intends to do is kick marxist policies into high gear.

Relocating polling places to grocery stores and gas stations is worth consideration.

And Tax Day should also be voting day. And no withholding – every cent the Feds want from you is due on Tax Day.

      • Suthenboy

        This.

      • Sensei

        I’ve advocated that forever.

    Return of the gentleman adventurer?

While prior missions to space that were funded by wealthy businesspeople may have conjured images of self-indulgent joy rides, Polaris Dawn is a test mission designed to push boundaries.

Isaacman, Menon, Gillis and Poteet will spend five days aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule that will soar to altitudes higher than any human has traveled since NASA’s Apollo program ended in the 1970s. Their orbital path will extend high enough to plunge the vehicle and crew into a radiation belt, adding another element of peril to the already treacherous experience of spaceflight.

This crew of private citizens will also open the hatch of their spacecraft and expose themselves to the vacuum of space, marking the first time such a feat has been attempted by non-government astronauts. During this endeavor, the astronauts will be protected solely by brand-new Extra-Vehicular Activity (EVA) suits, which SpaceX designed and developed in just two and a half years.

“What Jared is doing — he’s not just going for a joyride,” said Garrett Reisman, a former NASA astronaut who serves as a SpaceX consultant and helped lead the development of Crew Dragon. “Jared (wants) do things that SpaceX wasn’t necessarily doing on its own, to increase their capabilities, to get them to move the ball further downfield.”

He should be giving that money to nonprofit advocacy groups.

    Nothing to see here.

I haven’t been following this very closely but it’s getting pretty stinky. Do you think FBI agents go through some kind of MK Ultra thing to get them to happily be corrupt cunts?

    • R C Dean

“First, contrary to the FBI’s explanation, let’s be honest, there is nothing “normal” about a dead body lying on a metal roof all night until 6 a.m. the following morning when the Butler County Coroner was allowed to make identification of that body. Recall that the coroner arrived at the AGR building at midnight on July 13th and was asked to return later – the following morning. “

AYFKM? They left his (well, a) body on that roof for, what, 18 hours? Why? Take your crime scene pics, bag it, and send it off for the autopsy. Should take maybe a couple hours?

  37. The Late P Brooks

“We don’t have an airlock on this mission,” Gillis told CNN, referring to the areas on board the International Space Station (ISS) that serve as special decompression chambers for astronauts heading out for a spacewalk. Polaris Dawn will instead take “a really novel and different approach” to the pre-breathing process that involves “slowly decreasing cabin pressure and raising oxygen concentration.”

That’s bold, to say the least.

      • ron73440

That’s a crazy way to make a living, but for $35-40,000 a month, I could see why they do it.

        Horrible way to die though.

    • Not Adahn

IIR my gas chemistry days C, it’s partial pressure that matters. So a 100% oxygen atmosphere at 220 torr should be survivable.

Hmm. But that’s not considering the CO2 removal rate…

      • Timeloose

You also have to consider the increased risk of fire. See Apollo 1.

  38. The Late P Brooks

Putting such a novel mission together in less than three years is incredibly fast by aerospace standards.

NASA would still be arguing about what colors to use on the organization chart.
