IFLA: The “Iron Fist!” Edition of the Horoscope for the Week of September 8

by | Sep 8, 2024 | IFLA | 35 comments

Ordinarily I’m most concerned about what the stars recommend for my shooting plans at Nationals, but this match I have my own stage to run, so I’m much more concerned about how my RO are going to work* After all, over the six days I’ll be working I’ll be spending less than ten minutes behind the trigger and a quite a few hours running people. Probably also >70k steps too. This is a really, really chill set of stellar interactions, or to look at it another way, extremely unhelpful. There is as close to nothing happening as you can get. Yes, it’s a good week for Virgo, but that’s to be expected. Sagittarius, the archer and by extension the gunman, has no planets. Jupiter, the ruler is in Gemini meaning that subordinates require supervision, but duh.

It’s an older meme sir, but it checks out.

The stars have nothing to say, but the cards say this is gonna be a big week.

[specific predictions as to my match this week in brackets]

Virgo: Wheel of Fortune reversed – “Good luck” that doesn’t really add anything [no lucky breaks for you!]

Libra: The Sun – Material happiness, fortunate marriage, contentment, growth.  This is considered the “best” card by some [I will be happy with this match]

Scorpio: The Star reversed –  Arrogance, haughtiness, impotence. [Some 2nd tier SuperSquad wannabe is going to call the RM on one of my calls and get slapped down]

Sagittarius: The Queen of wands –  Good, economical, obliging, serviceable. [success from basic techniques]

Capricorn: Judgement – Change of position, renewal, outcome [I’m going to be making judgements. Again, duh. Although, this could imply that one of my calls is actually goring to matter in the standings. Better have clean overlays.]

Aquarius: Knight of Coins reversed –  Inertia, idleness, stagnation, placidity, discouragement, carelessness.[one of the universal meanings of the Knight of Coins is that it is the slowest of the knights and so gives that idea of sluggishness or lack of celerity. Since it’s reversed, I’m going to read this as an admonition to push my speed. ]

Pisces: Knight of Cups reversed – Trickery, artifice, subtlety, swindling, duplicity, fraud. [some little bitch of a competitor is going to try and cheat]

Aries: Queen of Coins reversed – Evil, suspicion, suspense, fear, mistrust. [Coupled with the reversed knight, this indicates that a financial opportunity I’ll find at this match is a bad idea and should be eschewed.]

Taurus: The Moon – Hidden enemies, danger, calumny, darkness, terror, deception, occult forces, error.  [This is particularly interesting since it gives me the complete set of astronomical cards. While itself is a bad omen, the specific warnings are pretty typical of things that can go wrong at a shooting match, so the larger set of “completion” or “perfection” takes greater priority here.

Gemini: 6 of Swords reversed – Declaration, confession, publicity [I’ll be in one of the videos that gets posted after the match.]

Cancer: The Lovers reversed –  Failure, foolish designs.  [Well, shit. There goes my hopes for no mikes this match]

Leo: 4 of Coins – Holding on to what you have, successful defense, being well-prepared [I will NOT drop my gun]

This joke took a long time to play out when it was made.

*I’ve shot with two of my ROs but never worked with them, so I have no idea about their work ethic. They are a father/son team but the dad does not seem to spoil the kid too much.

    Evil, suspicion, suspense, fear, mistrust.

    So a pretty boring week?

    • hayeksplosives

I’m reading that as “stay home with the doors locked.”

Sagittarius: The Queen of wands – Good, economical, obliging, serviceable. [success from basic techniques]

    Clean living pays off.

  3. Sean

“Cancer: The Lovers reversed – Failure, foolish designs.”

I’ll only use the good restraints.

  4. MikeS

Pisces: Knight of Cups reversed – Trickery, artifice, subtlety, swindling, duplicity, fraud.

I swear, if CPRM tries to give me some counterfeit New Glarus Belgian Red, I’ll cut him.

Virgo to take one on the chin again this week? My portfolio lost about $20k in the market selloff last week. Then I broke the porch light trying to replace a bulb. And this week isn’t off to an auspicious start either: just opened my bank statement and it appears there’s $400 less than my checkbook says.

“Musk is the latest example of a totally gearheaded, engineering-brained, Silicon Valley guy who looks at government and says ‘How hard can it be? Let me at it and I can solve it for you,’” said Peter Leyden, founder of the strategic foresight firm Reinvent Futures and a former managing editor at Wired. “There’s been many of these characters before and he’s just the latest.”

Musk firmly planting himself into politics is not surprising to those who have watched him move from electric car innovator to space entrepreneur to owner of X (and online troll of liberals). But tech experts say Washington may be tricky terrain for a Silicon Valley businessperson unaccustomed to the complexities of federal bureaucracy.

Government does not exist to solve problems. Only a fool would believe that.

He wouldn’t go there to make it work better, he would go there to tear away the pieces that get in the way of freedom. That’s the big difference. The hard part isn’t identifying waste, it’s killing the leviathan that is not under your control anymore.

      • rhywun

A completely foreign concept to anyone at Wired and similar ilk.

      • Suthenboy

not just them. I would say about 85% of the human race.

Every commie sheep I have ever heard had essentially the same argument: Freedom is scary!
Really, that is what it boils down to.

“You are a fool and a coward if you become a slave for some fatback. hardtack and a little coffee and sugar.” – Sitting Bull

I dont remember the exact words of another one if his but paraphrased ” Kill me if you will. I will never give up. I will die a free man.”

Another one of his? “The Indian has never broken a treaty. The white man has never kept one.” <— Not a problem with 'White Man'. It is a problem with government. Every time these candidates open their mouths and tell us 'Just vote for me and I will…' I know it is a lie.

So did the Lakota break a treaty when they slaughtered the Cree and took their lands or did they not bother with the pretense of a treaty?

So did the Lakota break a treaty when they slaughtered the Cree and took their lands or did they not bother with the pretense of a treaty?

Look, let’s not get hung up on what Cease Fire agreements may or may not have been in place at the time of the slaughter. Knife fights are just a part of their culture. We need to pass the treaty to know what’s in it. What was I sayin?

    • Rebel Scum

unaccustomed to the complexities of federal bureaucracy.

It’s going to be fun watching him dismantle it.

      • Grumbletarian

Yeah, he shouldn’t have to understand the complexities of federal bureaucracy in order to eliminate them.

My portfolio lost about $20k in the market selloff last week.

This is why I don’t look.

    • creech

Glad that works for you. But my portfolio wouldn’t have grown like it has if I didn’t pay attention.

    • Fourscore

I used to get anxious, ’til I realized I’m no smarter than the mutual fund guy(generic) that does the work. I’ve been through enough market swings and it always grows back. This one may be the big one, however. I’ll check in a few days.

Years ago a friend advised me to get a financial advisor. He had one and had done extremely well. I asked him how old his FA was and he said “about 60”. I told him his FA needs to talk to me, I retired at 55.

4th date may be a group date 😬

    (everyone knows each other, though)

    • Ted S.

      A key party?

    • Mojeaux

      Pineapples ahoy!

      • Tres Cool

Don’t they have to be upside down? I thought that was the secret signal.

      • Ted S.

        It’s a pizza party too?

    • KK, Plump & Unfiltered

I mean…none of the potential attendees is terribly unfortunate-looking 🤷‍♂️

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

So, not too many missing teeth then?

  9. Mojeaux

Thanks to @kinnath for turning me on to The Pretty Reckless. That song “25” was awesome.

I thought someone…CNN?…rehired Bryan Stelter to boost their credibility?
I see him there foaming at the mouth with TDS
      Journalisti integrity for the win.

Golly, it’s almost like when you drive up the cost of home ownership and enact a bunch of laws that make it nearly impossible to evict a tenant, the rents go through the roof. Who’d a thunk it?

In other Glibs shooting sports news, on Wednesday last, I took possession of a Walther KKM, or Klein Kartridge Match, a UIT eligible (circa 1960) .22lr single shot rifle, which I was finally able to take to the range today. Shooting Eley Club, I was shooting cloverleaf’s cold after 30-35 rounds. Also, I was shooting at 25 yards, as opposed to 50 feet, which would be the standard US small bore distance.

Very Happy. Here is the beauty: https://ibb.co/LQB7w64
