I stumbled across this movie just a few weeks ago. The wife and I watched it, and I decided it was a perfect movie for an Every Week is Halloween post. So I threw it in the mix! The whole premise is, “What’s in the coffin?”
Interestingly enough, The IMDB cabal did not like this film. Gave it a 4.8 out of 10, when member reviews averaged 8/10. IMDB also does not have a decent plot review, or anything! So it’s up to me to sing some praises without spilling too many beans. Here’s your plot: A group of underworld arms dealers, mercenaries, and fixers are hired to wait in a crypt with a metal coffin until their mysterious employer arrives. Special guests show up while they wait, and things get weird. So what IS in that coffin?!!? You will have to wait and see. This is really quite masterful.
This is, as I like to say, the vision of two men: Freddie Hutton-Mills and Bart Ruspoli. Never heard of them? Not surprised. These are younger (meaning born in the 70’s) guys with short or unknown (to me) lists of previous work. Based on this film, I will be watching more of their other efforts! Interestingly enough, these two worked together on all of these films:
That’s quite a long list for a collaboration. If they were Van Halen they would already be at each other’s throats. I am hoping these other films are as good as tonight’s. If so I will be posting them as they are available!
One note: I apologize if the actors are hard to understand. There are subtitles. We must forgive the British for their odd accents.*
So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary until your boss asks you to wait for him in a crypt with a creepy metal coffin! Next week, is a Halloween movie bonanza! The official title to watch is Tsui Hark’s Vampire Hunters. I will, as usual, have alternate Halloween selections, plus the List of Lame. I will see you old farts there! Because I know none of you are going to Halloween parties on Thursday!
*I keed! That should get some indignant comments. I was dangerously close to a STEVE SMITH visit two weeks’ ago from low comments.
Help! Every Week is Halloween!
One more week. Then I change format! Spy films, Westerns, Science Fiction, you name it. The good times will continue, regardless of who is elected. BY GOOD TIMES MEAN…
They made movies called Genesis and Seconds Out?
I know! Inside joke for music fans?
Anyway, I thought tonight was The Era of Vampires aka Vampire Hunters?
Oh so that’s next week. Barbie & Kendra Crash Joe Bobβs Drive-in Jamboree doesn’t seem to up anywhere.
Isn’t Joe Bob a libertarian?
I previewed it, and decided to delay it and substitute a different film. It was a difficult decision, but the right one. That Joe Bob movie maybe one of the post-election movies.
I think so. I seem to remember he had a fairly regular column somewhere under his real name.
Thatβs Halloween. Next week. I for confused and thought Halloween was this week also due to crazy overwork.
Also dafuq happened to my formatting up top?
Looks OK to me, but then again I’m not Tonio.
On the phone it looks atrocious. Looks fine on PC. Odd.
I cant find any spoilers for this movie. Hmmmm.
I donβt think it got enough notice to get spoilers. Really too bad.
A group of underworld arms dealers, mercenaries, and fixers are hired to wait in a crypt with a metal coffin until their mysterious employer arrives. Special guests show up while they wait, and things get weird.
Sounds interesting.
I have to be up early tomorrow. I’ll queue this up for viewing later this weekend or early next week.
Thanks RJ!
You are welcome! I have been up and on the phone at 6:30 every morning. Tomorrow is the first day I am not. I will be around for a little while.
Alien phone sex hotline?
Tonight’s secret short is a music video by a fake 1970’s soul singer, who professes her love for sasquatch.
I swear, I had nothing to do with it. I just found it that way!
STEVE SMITH LOVE SEXY SHORTS.
EASY TAKE OFF AND GET OUT OF WAY.
BOOM! Thank you for all, and as for “New Format,” I re-listened to an album today I love and half-forgot: Superfly by Curtis Mayfield. The damn album sold more than the damn movie. I haven’t seen the film, though the album pretty much sums it up!
Freddie’s Dead is certainly my favorite. *Musical swoon*
You haven’t experienced soul until you’ve listened to Shovanna Mossbush’s entire “Hairy Love Affair” album.
I’ll def give a listen. Superfly is straight-up funk in my book. I’d say my drumming is most accurately described a funk, “pocket drummer.”
Give me a bass, snare and ESPECIALLY a hi-hat (the most expressive of all drums/cymbals), and I can groove all night.
(Yes. Mayfield had a full orchestra to fuck around with. That is not tremendously funky. However: Soundtrack.)
“I havenβt seen the film”
You should!
Might be a good choice here. How about blackploitation February?
Definitely a possibility.
Freddie’s Dead.
π
I would have been disappointed by any other link.
I played the fuck out of that album in college.
βThere are subtitles. We must forgive the British for their odd accents.β
I routinely turn on subtitles for British films.

Good show, guvnuh!
My dad ‘gave’ me a non-running 1983 Jaguar (gee, thanks?). I bought a proper Jaguar service manual because the Haynes manual is a bit broad and non-specific where I need it. Long and short of it, I wish I knew English. I did get the bastard running.
“Cryptids is a 2023 American anthology horror comedy film produced by Justin M. Seaman, Zane Hershberger, and P. J. Starks. It stars Joe Bob Briggs as a talk radio host who decides to discuss the topic of cryptozoology, prompting listeners to call in and relay stories about cryptids.”
Iβll have to look for that.
October Surprise, Part Deux
Elon Muskβs Secret Conversations With Vladimir Putin
Elon Musk, the worldβs richest man and a linchpin of U.S. space efforts, has been in regular contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin since late 2022.
The discussions, confirmed by several current and former U.S., European and Russian officials, touch on personal topics, business and geopolitical tensions.
At one point, Putin asked the billionaire to avoid activating his Starlink satellite internet service over Taiwan as a favor to Chinese leader Xi Jinping, said two people briefed on the request.
Musk has emerged this year as a crucial supporter of Donald Trumpβs election campaign, and could find a role in a Trump administration should he win. While the U.S. and its allies have isolated Putin in recent years, Muskβs dialogue could signal re-engagement with the Russian leader, and reinforce Trumpβs expressed desire to cut a deal over major fault lines such as the war in Ukraine.
RUSSIA!! RUSSIA!! RUSSIA!!
What a shit article. I know the WSJ news section leans left, but this approaches yellow-journalism. They make provocative statements in the early part of the article, and then basically contradict their inuendo later on.
Example: in the third paragraph, they claim Putin asked him to not activate Starlink over Taiwan. Here is the forty-fourth paragraph:
Starlink has never secured permission to offer internet service in Taiwan, whose government places restrictions on non-Taiwanese satellite operators.
The only reason they haven’t requested it is because Putin. Russia delenda est.
βTrumpβs expressed desire to cut a deal over major fault lines such as the war in Ukraineβ
Just like HItler, who was known for making concessions to Russia.
This canβt be real, can it?

What is it supposed to be?
What is it? It looks like a marine isopod with a different head. In Cuba, there are terrestrial isopods that have spikes, which I’ve never seen in the U.S., but they are harmless little things.
I dont think it is. It may be. There are lots of species of isopod species but I haven’t seen one quite like that. I cant find one just like it. My guess is an isopod with its scariest attributes exaggerated by AI. Clue: their eyes are not like that.
I know. AI has made me paranoid. I question everything I see via electronics.
Creepy real thing:
https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/globalassets/mba/images/animals/deep-sea/mba/giant-deep-sea-isopod-tr22-0014.jpg
True story: In linking to the ‘creepy real thing’ I initially accidentally linked to a photo of Harris and Walz from an earlier comment. It seemed appropriate so I started to leave it that way.
Another true story: I took my ambien and getting a bit woozy. Goodnight all.
Ron Paul, on Trump eliminating the income tax:
https://x.com/RonPaul/status/1849574087183536347
It would be even better if Trump could somehow cut Federal Spendingβas in, actual cuts, and not reduced increases in spending.
20% across the board spending cuts, and if that reduces any spending program below, say, a couple million a year, then that program is immediately eliminated.
I’ll be in my bunk
*checks in garage. Yep, chainsaw in top working order*
Why dont you let me have a go at it?
The 2019 budget would balanced with 2024 revenue, including inflation adjustments. Just use that one, maybe a few tweaks that are spending neutral. It would be over two trillion dollars worth of spending reduction – from $6.5TT in FY 2024 to $4.4TT in 2019. 2024 tax revenue was around $5.1TT, allowing a balanced budget with 16% inflation, in the ballpark of the official inflation numbers for the period.
OH! Last night I watched The Brotherhood of the Wolf, in French Le Pacte des loups. HO-LEE-FUCK. It’s so much fun. It’s 17th century France, with a fearsome werewolf and fuck it, adds magic, kung-fu and plenty of sexy time to make an entertaining action flick. Well-done for what it is, everyone brings their A-Game to what they were given, and it succeeds. Yes. Monica Bellucci is a main character, whose intentions are coyly obscured. I give her all my blessings.
It’s ‘based’ on a true story of wolf attacks in France in the ~1680s, It was a big deal for a few years: Beast of GΓ©vaudan if ya wanna Wiki it. I enjoy the movie revealing the reality, the public feeling the werewolf is gone is far more important than actually solving the problem.
*How many died is contentious, but, uh… MANY. Wiki: “The Kingdom of France used a considerable amount of wealth and manpower to hunt the animals responsible, including the resources of several nobles, soldiers, royal huntsmen, and civilians. The number of victims differs according to the source. A 1987 study estimated there had been 210 attacks, resulting in 113 deaths and 49 injuries; 98 of the victims killed were partly eaten.”
That’s a solid flick. Mark Dacascos is a plus.
Allez-cuisinez!
It really is. It knows exactly what it is and delivers its munch -your- popcorn, squeeze -your -date flick, extremely well.
Over-the-top fun mixed with legit history, werewolf magic, Papal authority, fun-weaponed kung-fu.. all drenched in sexiness. I’m thrilled it’s on Prime and I watched it last night. It kinda has a point to make, but nicely leaves it aside, focusing on the fun. *prepares bunk*
Just looked, and it seems Vincent Cassel is in that. Now it is a definate watch, I love that dude in French movies.
The feature page on my phone looks like it says “GUBFUCKS” because of the size and I’m blind.
That is an acceptable alternative name for this show.
Much like MLW watches terrible TV and reports to us, I decided to hate listen to NPR for a bit today. Before even tuning in, I made the decision to count the words before I heard them say “Hitler”. They were 3 words in when this happened. NPR never disappoints in their predictability. After discussing the honorable Kelley finally coming clean about the facist Trump praising Hitler “on several occasions”. Why not tell us earlier Kelley? Either way, phew, good thing he told us when he did. We could have elected someone who has killed 6 million Jews while we weren’t looking or something. Then there was a hard hitting article on Elon Musk using “dark money” on “disturbing” and “instense” ads to help sway the election. Sounds facist adjacent. I’m voting for joy and I eat carburetors for breakfast.
Is that a ’73 Corvette?
Cheney, Kelly, everyone else gets rehabbed faster than a Soviet non-person as soon as they denounce OMB.
“The Democrat party has never been at war with Abu-Ghraib.”
My only exposure to NPR and the like is here.
I simply cannot imagine using it as a primary source of news. How do you deprogram someone from that?!
How does someone let themselves get programmed by that boring propaganda?
If you are into classical and such, NPR plays good music.
Regardless, our tax dollars shouldn’t support it β people in favor of more government spending.
This chick is kind of annoying but it’s truth bombs wall to wall.

I recently started using proton. How do people with VPN’s deal with the constant need to do the two step verification bullshit everytime they want to login to a site?
I use a VPN and I never had to do that.
#metoo
well, I seldom have to do that
Are you using international connections?
Yes.
Try using “fastest” USA connections. That’s what I do with Proton and I seldom have issues.
…I guess “fastest” isn’t necessary. But stick with USA. I only use internationals for specific situations. π΅π»ββοΈ
I’m so bored.
The earlier thread about the Feds blocking Florida from interviewing witnesses about the Trump assassination:
Is there anyone who doesn’t think the feds were part of it at some level?
It doesn’t just explain blocking all outside investigations
It explains the inexplicable security perimeter that is a perfect circle… except for the missing slice of pie that includes the building the shooter occupied.
It explains why someone told the SS director to say that the roof was too steep to put police on it.
It explains why a kid would drive to a new location and decide to climb on a roof that clearly should have police on it and is completely surrounded by police.
It would explain why the FBI attempted to leak a conservative background for the kid, only to be contradicted by people in the tech industry who also told us that they have the FBI proof that he was a leftist
It would explain the inexplicable incuriousity of the media. After 24 hours, they never asked another question.
Is there any thought that all of this is just coincidence, and some random kid found that spot and the SS just happened to be inept and the FBI just happened to leak the wrong information to make it look like a conservative and the FBI just happened to stop cooperating with congress and florida ….
I missed this. You have a link?
I forget which app… telegram maybe.
The owner said he provided files to the FBI before they leaked that he was a leftie based on 2016 posts.
He said he had more recent posts that were progressive.
I’ll see if I can find it
Like the follow up attempt or “attempt” where there’s no lockdown around a golf course and the SS agents immediately open fire but don’t hit anything?
Morning, Glibs.
(-.-)
I ordered the new drives for my NAS with the expectation that the delivery estimate of Monday was accurate and at worst they might arrive Tuesday, but since those were remote days, I’d be there to sign for the $1,200 in storage medium.
Guess what? UPS Went “Good News! It’s only coming from Brooklyn, so we’ll be delivering today – signature required”
Good morning, U, homey, and Sean!
Morniong. How goes?
The head cold I’d been keeping at bay for days finally won out yesterday afternoon. (Luckily, I’d been fine all the way through my dentist appointment.) It looks as if my choice at the moment is between drippy/sneezy or groggy on Benadryl. π€§ I already warned my boss as we were leaving yesterday, so I think he’d just as soon I take the day off.
And my manners are obviously still asleep. How are you?
I guess I’m all right. Amid the various unimportant data points I noticed yesterday was that I made a little over $800 in the year 2000. At the rate I was being paid at the time, I worked around 160 hours for that. (It was a summer job for a student) Today I make $800 in 13 hours 20 minutes.
And yes, if your symptoms have caught up to you, don’t infect your co-workers.
You’ve come a long way!
Not really.
I will be reminded of everything that’s wrong once I get back to the house.
In my office cube it’s easier to ignore the problems.
Nevertheless, you DO own a house now.
Oh, you meant from the student job. π€¦ββοΈ
I was thinking about current mood versus the depressive state I’ve been trying to fight off.
My biggest jump was from getting laid off at the Xerox Helpdesk to starting with the state. I went from $12.32/hr to $23/hr.* It was also a switch from Teir 1 call center support to junior system admin.
*actually I went from $0/hr to $23/hr because I was unemployed for six months before finally landing that job

Everything about that article is just….wow. It sums up what is wrong with that place.
Good morning all.

Good morning, Suthen!

Can I get a summary ?
New York proposed to charge drivers to enter parts of Mahattan as “Congestion Pricing”, came up with a wild-assed guess about how much money it would raise. The Metropolitan Transit Authority added that money to their budget and spent it. The Governor postponed the congestion pricing because it was wildly unpopular, and it’s an election year (but not a gubenatorial election). The MTA is whining that they neeeeeeed the money they never had but already spent.
Math checks out.
I didn’t see anything about fighting the pubsec union that is responsible for the wildly overpaid workers and monstrous bureaucracy at the MTA.
Huh.
Mornin’ y’all. Today is Uncle Ev duty with the 4yo. I am tremendously happy I’ve been here for (most) of his youth; he adores me and has my nascent personality. Glad the ev-genes went to one of the three nephews.
Still awaiting phleb info, just waiting on background check/etc. “Tentative Start Date” is still Nov 5, which may interfere with my Election Day ‘plans.’ Blue is going to ensure Trump Part II is a nightmare. I also don’t want to be ‘on the hook’ for the moral vote of my ‘Popular Vote’ contribution. Indiana ain’t goin’ Blue, so whatevs. I’d like to check the polls out at least.
Hope y’all can get some (productive?) ass-kickin’ done today.
