Glib Flick: Happy Halloween!

by | Oct 31, 2024 | Film, Fun, GlibFlick | 181 comments

Remember, you old farts! Some people go out tonight and ring doorbells! Don’t shoot the whippersnappers unless they make a move first!

Tsui Hark’s Vampire Hunters

Tsui Hark has done a lot of films. His specialty is working with Chinese opera companies to create really exotic supernatural kung fu films, like Chinese Ghost Story. Look away for a moment and he makes another film. So far in his career, he has written 49 films and directed 51. And most of them are great. His very first, We’re Going to Eat You, spawned a band of the same name in England. I will do an entire post on that film soon. Now back to tonight! We have hopping vampires! Drunken kung fu! Spells! Dark, brooding scenery! You just can’t go wrong. So I picked it for Halloween. I needed some fun hopping vampires in my life. I hope you enjoy it.

With that said, there are two special bonus sections for tonight’s Post!

Halloween Bonus Films

I had these in my queue all year and did not post them. Here they are, in case you want some monster movies for Halloween:

  • The Nest (1987): Giant cockroaches spawned by medical experiments overrun a town!
  • Meth Gator: Gators in the swamp eat meth. ‘Nuf said! Ridiculous fun!

The List of Lame

Every Halloween I post the movies which tormented me the most in a special section. I go through this for all of you! I watched every one, and then wished for the hours of my life back. Spare yourself! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary:

  • Bigfoot Vs. Megalodon: As mentioned previously, this was so bad it put me off doing a Sasquatch Celebration September.  There is also a sequel, both made by some kind of AI. The digital future is a bad place. Stay here with me and watch older films instead of these. I have bourbon and cigars.
  • Catnado (PLEX): Several stories, tied together by a Catnado. Meow! The wife watched this with me, and did not leave me. She is a strong woman. Acting is a lost art in this film.
  • Voodoo Apocalypse: This movie tried so hard it blew out an O ring. I had high hopes for it, but about half way through I realized if I posted Voodoo Apocalypse the pitchforks and torches would come out.

So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary on Halloween!

Next week, there is an election. Based on the outcome I will decide on a film. Or flee to Mars with Elon.

    Happy Halloween!

“Based on the outcome I will decide on a film.”

    So 1984 if Kamala wins?

What’s the most Trump movie? In The Line of Fire?

    • R.J.

Not sure yet. There’s been entirely too much work and no play. That Joe Bob movie I pulled is an option, possibly any number of Armageddon films from the eighties, etc…

      • Gustave Lytton

And for Kamala, Six Degrees of Separation

      • Tundra

        Deep Throat, obviously.

      • Common Tater

“And for Kamala, Six Degrees of Separation”

        ???

      • R.J.

        You guys are the best.

      • dbleagle

Don’t forget “Nasty Habits.” It is the Watergate affair reset to a convent. Some of the dialogue is straight from the tapes and all the major players are recognizable in the movie.

    • Evan from Evansville

Damn! You boys came out to play today. All spectacular options.

+Deep Throat for adding pivotal juice. *sensuous chef’s kiss*

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

        Don’t say that around Kamalama.

        /shudders

      • Evan from Evansville

Listen, I’m speaking. *chokes* She was a good lookin’ woman, and you know DAMN WELL she’s good at it. Slurpin’s the only way she rose to anything. And gettin’ Willie on board? Ya know he had access to all sorts of poon. Yet, he selected her. Talent.

Folk ignore the cute and playful, yet rampant scandals JFK was up to. And that Kamala-Swallowma literally Fuck ‘n Sucked her way to the top. With a man 30+yrs her senior and more! I don’t wonder why such is dismissed, but it should be much more openly mocked. No other (non-Dem) pol would get such a pass. Fuckin’ slippery, pussy-ass ‘journos,’ eh? Let the embarrassment seep in. Let her suck it up.

  3. R.J.

Am I hallucinating, or was the movie pulled?

    • R.J.

Clearly I am cursed. I don’t remember spitting on a gypsy or anything . Given this week, I give up. You all enjoy a nice Halloween!

      • MikeS

        “Coming Dec. 1”

You know who else came on Dec. 1?

      • R.J.

        Coronavirus?

    • DEG

      Huh.

I guess I’ll watch one of the bonus movies over the weekend instead of the main feature.

    • Common Tater

Looks like it was pulled. I’m trying to watch it from my hard drive, but I keep getting interrupted.

Although it does look like they have Tokyo Gore Police! OK, it’s an English dubbed version, but still.

  4. Tundra

Remember, you old farts! Some people go out tonight and ring doorbells! Don’t shoot the whippersnappers unless they make a move first!

    Whew. Good advice. Thanks, RJ!

    • MikeS

      Shoot. Shovel. Shut-up.

      • Tundra

        Word.

        *goes to get shovel*

  5. Nephilium

We survived ~50 trick or treaters, the full sized bars ran out and we had to let them go for the backup (Mike and Ikes and Boston Baked Beans). The costume again creeped out kids and teens, with one running up to stop short once he saw my mask was up. I believe he was planning on pushing over the “straw man”. The terrified look on his face made up for it.

Appears our neighborhood has a reputation, as ~15 minutes after the official start of trick or treat, 4 cars pulled up, parked on the street in front of my house and disgorged children to run among the houses.

Halloween is one of the best holidays to me.

    • MikeS

Mikes are delicious, the Ikes are garbage candy.

      • Nephilium

I think I’ve decided that the backup candy next year will be this:

      • MikeS

OMG that is glorious. DO IT!!!11

      • Tundra

        Perfect.

      • Evan from Evansville

Give ’em to the naughty kids? Or convert the younguns….? All!

I want ’em for myself. (The STICKS in Fun Dip are the tastiest part..) I do vaguely remember when you could still blow puffs of sugar(?) outta ’em. The 90s were a fantastic decade to grow up in. *Shakes fist at clouds of youth for parting*

      • Nephilium

        Evan:

It was the gum cigarettes that had the cornstarch/powdered sugar you could get one exhaled puff out of.

      • Evan from Evansville

@Neph: Dope. Thanks, I *knew* I didn’t imagine that. The gum bit sounds odd, but I remember it being rad. (You have an inherently chewy thing encasing a fine powder? Hrm.) I suppose the puff before the chew did magical tricks and sold me/many others.

I still buy Big League Chew for practical, regular use. You can just grab as much as you want *that* moment. Then ya just put the convenient pouch back for later. No unwrapping of the big wrapper to get to the SMALLER individual pieces (size of their choosing!) wrapped up in ANOTHER bitch. This lack of portion size choice, and excess packaging… displeases me. Highly.

Idiots associate Big League Chew with tobacco because they’re idiots. I was a ballplayer we all grew up with it. Never once associated it with real chew, which’ll make a kid puke right quick. I did after my first smoke, which was also idiotically a menthol. That put me off until college. I bummed from a friend, my parents didn’t force me to smoke the pack or anything, but that old school ‘tactic’ seems like a good way to instill a strong aversion to smokes. *shrug*

Apparently Dr. Grandma Jill has decided to ratchet up the shade:

Hunter Biden Praises ‘Joyful Warrior’ Kamala as ‘Invaluable Partner’ to His Father as Her Campaign Backs Away From President

“Her campaign reflects the joy and optimism she communicates with every appearance she makes,” Hunter Biden continued. “President Biden chose Kamala Harris to be his vice president and passed the torch to her because of her dedication to service, her unyielding pursuit of justice and her profound decency.”

The first son also called former president Donald Trump a “fascist” and said “a second Donald Trump presidency is potentially the end of America as we’ve known it.”

    • R.J.

Dr. Jill has a gen-u-wine zombie she can use to hand out candy! He might even take a bite out of a baby!

    • Rebel Scum

potentially the end of America as we’ve known it.

I’m already voting for him. You don’t have to sell it to me.

    • Common Tater

No one knows more about decency than Hunter Biden.

      • Fourscore

Hunter has to kiss Kamala’s ass in case Joe keels over before he can give Hunter a pardon. A Kamala pardon would carry the same weight but might take a little longer. Trump pardon is too iffy at this point

      • Ownbestenemy

I think Trump will do it to mend fences. I mean, politically, I would. Then again, I am not running for president.

      • MikeS

Honestly, I’m a little surprised he hasn’t pardoned him already. I mean, he’s his fucking kid, why wouldn’t he? I wouldn’t blame him one bit. He’ll get one Nov. 6th, I suppose. Paying politics until the very end.

      • Common Tater

“Trump pardon is too iffy at this point”

        Why would Trump pardon Hunter?

Besides Joe will probably pardon him before he leaves.

    • rhywun

      “STFU, Hunter.”

      /KH

    • cavalier973

      Feliz! I mean!

I’m now going to egg AND TP AND fork the yard of the spell check!

      • Common Tater

Pretty sure felix just means the same thing in Latin.

      • MikeS

        You mean Latinx

      • Common Tater

I still can’t get over how stupid that was.

      • Fourscore

Glad it wasn’t condensed to Latts.

BBC continues their shamelessness. News alert on my ‘phone: “Ukrainians on the front lines tell the BBC their country’s very survival is in the hands of American voters.”

    • cavalier973

Something interesting that Trump said in the Roman discussion is that one of the ways he would have prevented the invasion of Ukraine would have been to keep oil prices low through increased production. That way, the Russians would not have been able to finance the invasion.

      • R.J.

        ^This.

        production has increased.

Everyone is thinking about the fall of Rome these days.

      • Common Tater

Joe Roman is the color commentator for gladiator battles.

      • Evan from Evansville

Joe Roman as Color for gladiatorial games DEMANDS Bob Uecker as the Call Guy. Just too damn perfect.

Roman: “That attack nearly cut the jugular! Great slide outta the way!”
Uecker: “Yep. Dandy of slash for sure. Maximus’ aim was juuuuuust a bit outside. And now an announcement from our sponsor: ‘When ya need one, ‘Urine Apothecary!’ Piss at their nearest location and avoid the Urine Tax! Never worry, Urine luck!
And now back to the action, JoeRo…”

      • Common Tater

        LOL

      • Gustave Lytton

Same with Iranian ability to finance Hezbollah, Hamas, and Houthis. Also Saudi Arabia for other factions. And Venezuela…

    • R.J.

Technically correct, but not how they mean it.

    • Rebel Scum

Dear Ukrainian gov’t and it’s acolytes,

      Go fuck yourselves.

Like Creepy Joe, I seem to have misplaced an apostrophe. Dammit.

      • MikeS

        Ted’S has’ extra’s

    • R.J.

How the heck do I disable autocorrect on this new POS phone!!??????

      • Nephilium

Android? You can go to settings, and search for Auto-correct (which should bring up your keyboard options), or the options for whichever keyboard you have installed.

    • Common Tater

I haven’t seen Terrifier 3 yet, but I heard Joker 2 is this awful musical.

      • R.J.

I heard it was awful too. I already logged my awful movie for 2024. I ended up seeing Beetlejuice 2 about the same time as Mojeaux. It was just a train wreck shambles of plot lines with a main thread that ended up being totally pointless in the conclusion. It too, was a musical. I think Burton is losing it.

      • Evan from Evansville

Joker was phenomenal. I never had a desire to see any ‘addition’ to it in any way, and I’m glad the terrible reviews are justifying this impulse.

As for Beetlejuicex2, and many others as well, the Pay Day is too tempting to overlook. What else is Michael Keaton up to these days? Do this, make $20M(?), and comfortably move on to luxury, time and comfort. *shrug*

      • Common Tater

Sad. I think I’ll still try it because Jenna Ortega. X was great. Wednesday was a bit too much of a teen drama for me, but still good.

      • R.J.

Go ahead. Rent it, don’t buy it. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about it.

      • Common Tater

The great thing about the first Beetlejuice is that it is so breezy. I think it’s just around 90 minutes long.

I’m not going to rent it or buy it. I don’t have a parrot or an eye patch, but I have a bottle rum.

Did I ever tell you about the time I met Winona Ryder?

I don’t know, even if the plot makes no sense, it still might be fun. I’m a big fan of The Big Sleep. Because Hayes code. I had to watch it three times before I could settle the plot. Sometimes movies are just about experiencing the scenes.

      • DrOtto

Michael Keeton starred in and directed “Knox Goes Away” last year. Very solid flick, but yeah, probably needed Beetlejuice $ to make it work.

      • Evan from Evansville

No, Count, you have not told me about the time you met Winona Ryder. Me want to know more, please. She and Christina Ricci were my first(?) two boyhood crushes. Earlier than I ‘got’ why, but I just…liked ’em for ‘some’ reason. Interesting both Wednesday and all Ryder’s work with (good) Tim Burton leaned or dove into the dark and twisted side.

I know I was not all alone in this. The Ryder bit doesn’t surprise me, she gotta lotta teen+ attention. Ricci’s role, perhaps is more odd. I watched that when I was like 6+. I.. liked her.. Now, Evan sees he was ignorantly missing Morticia, for fuck’s sake.

      • Common Tater

“No, Count, you have not told me about the time you met Winona Ryder.”

I was a club promoter in NYC, and one night she showed up for the party. We talked quite a bit, but I kept pretending that I didn’t know who she was. In retrospect, she seemed pretty much sober. She wasn’t going nuts on the dance floor or anything, and pretty much stood around by herself. As far as I could tell, she was not with anybody.

      • Evan from Evansville

It’s almost more fun being low-key, seeing a famous person. I’d be most interested in them as just ‘them,’ sans entourage. I’m certainly not a “I’M YOUR BIGGEST FAN!” person. Only if a possibility arose, I’d just talk to them like I didn’t know ’em at all. I don’t. I do wonder when this was, but she seemed (in my fantasy) like a lonely gal in the Lydia/ Beetlejuice romance. Related.. Spinster in spirit, and certainly a vixen more than a virgin, but:

“Look at her. This is a lonely woman looking for companionship… a spinster… maybe a virgin… maybe she got hurt a long time ago. She was a schoolgirl. There was a boy It didn’t work out. Now she needs a little tenderness. She needs a little understanding. She needs a little K̵r̵a̵m̵e̵r̵ Evan.”

  8. Ownbestenemy

Good two or so hours of ghouls and goblins seeking treats. We are in an unfortunate spot along the main road where its dark with no houses giving candy so a lot of turn arounds at the corners. Next year maybe some decorations or lights to say we have candy little kids

    • R.J.

We are dark, first time in 17 years here. This moving elsewhere business is getting in the way of the fun holidays.
Speaking of, has anybody heard from Trials and Trippelations? That Glib moved to Waco, and I am moving closer to Waco myself.

    • MikeS

On my local Facebook “swap and shop” page someone posted their address and let everyone know they have lots of candy for the kiddies. So, you could try that next year. haha

      • Ownbestenemy

We dont social media. Seriously a busy night cause I think we are the closest development for the country folk. Just dark from corner to corner except our house. We sat in the garage with a fire pit in the driveway. Next year we will either turn the trailer into something scary or at least put out lights to illuminate. It was fun to see people out and about and kids trick or treating.

      • MikeS

And two more letting everyone know they have more candy. haha

I guess I’m getting too cynical. It’s a great sign of a safe, small town wanting the kids to have fun. Damn weirdos in fly-over

      • Fourscore

How do we know it’s not the neighbor’s address? That’s how you pull a good trick

      • MikeS

        @fourscore: You’re devious. I like it

    • Ownbestenemy

Seriously, I haven’t seen that many people of all ages out and about in the neighborhood since I was a child in the 80s-90s. It was refreshing.

      • Fourscore

Taking the bag of poisoned candy to the hospital for an X-ray was too much trouble. Is that passe’ ?

Global warming and needles in Halloween candy, plus a covid or two. Need to start the fear mongering in early on impressionable minds, so they can grow up worrying about their vote not counting.

      • Ownbestenemy

Pair of I suspect teens rolled up for the second round “Someone gave us this bag of candy”

My response “Great score, enjoy your night”.

      • Common Tater

        That’s great!

Trick or Treating kind of died with all the stranger danger propaganda during the 90’s.

    • trshmnstr

We did a college volleyball game followed up by a college football game. The girls got to dress up (again… we had church trunk or treat last Saturday) and trick or treat at the football tailgate with their cousins.

I much prefer these kinds of events to the traditional trick or treating, to be honest. All the fun of trick or treating condensed into 30 minutes.

      • Common Tater

Is it really all the fun?

      • trshmnstr

Yes, they come home with a bucket full of candy, which is all they care about. Heck, they won’t even eat 80% of it. It’s getting dressed up and getting candy that does it for them. I also didn’t have to drag a melting down 3 year old half a mile down the road after the sugar high wears off, so it’s a huge win.

      • MikeS

With all respect, trshy; walking from one car to the next in a parking lot is not “all the fun” of walking around the neighborhood and knocking on doors.

      • MikeS

But I may be projecting. Never mind me.

      • UnCivilServant

Trick or Treating was never fun.

        /Introvert.

      • trshmnstr

walking from one car to the next in a parking lot is not “all the fun” of walking around the neighborhood and knocking on doors.

I never enjoyed that part all that much, anyway. Neither on the giving or the receiving side. Personally, I could take or leave the whole holiday. My wife actively hates it. We’d just as soon drop $10 on a bag of candy for the kids and hang out with friends instead. That’s basically what our church trunk or treat and this tailgate were… an excuse for the kids to hang out with friends and collect some candy.

  9. DEG

    I have bourbon and cigars.

    🙂

I’ll queue up tonight’s feature for viewing another day. Thanks RJ!

  10. slumbrew

Cul-de-sac party complete – probably set a record for trick-or-treaters this year (15-ish – we’re on the other side of a busy street).

Wings, pizza and chili were all consumed in large quantities (each made by one of the the menfolk in the neighborhood – wings were mine). All washed down with delicious libations.

    I’ll call it a success.

    • Common Tater

Sounds like a success to me.

  11. kinnath

I watched the first 50 minutes or so of the Rogan/Vance interview. Vance comes across as the good-guy neighbor across the street.

    • Ownbestenemy

I mentioned before, he can toss of the stink of a politician and if you met him at a bar you’d probably just shoot the shit for an hour or so. I can see why the left is afraid of him.

      • MikeS

Judging by his love for unions and Lina Kahn, the right should be more scared of him than they are.

      • Ownbestenemy

So I might split with libertarians here. Unions are not inherently bad. Free association of folk to sway their collective well-being is what we do right? GovSec unions are a different story of course.

      • MikeS

I guess in theory I’m not (and I don’t think any/many libertarians are) against private sector unions. A big caveat being they need to survive on their own without the NLRB putting it’s big fat thumb on the scale.

His anti-corporate leanings worry me more:

“A lot of my Republican colleagues look at [Khan] … and they say, ‘[Khan] is engaged in some sort of fundamentally evil thing,’” Vance told attendees. “I guess I look at Lina Khan as one of the few people in the Biden administration who I think is doing a pretty good job.”

      • MikeS

The more I think about it, from the modest bit I know about him, he seems like a Blue Dog Democrat from the 90’s.

      • Gustave Lytton

        Another cultural and actual foreigner.

    • KSuellington

I’m about an hour deep on the Vance interview and I wish he was at the top of the ticket. Can’t believe Joe Fucking Rogan is giving us the best political interviews of the current era. He is eating the fucking lunch of the elite media.

  12. Common Tater

So I guess I’m the only one watching the movie?

    • R.J.

Looks that way. I got boned by TUBI SMITH.

    • Fourscore

Be careful what you wish for, Rosie, you just might get it.

Being President for the next 4 years may not be a positive on one’s resume. 4 years from now, in the most important election of all times we’ll be wondering how we survived the previous 4 years of high inflation, high unemployment, war and whoever was the president.

  13. groat scotum

Trump was stumping here in Albuquerque. Amazing. We’ve been touched by greatness at long last.

I don’t believe for a moment New Mexico is up for grabs. Partly because I don’t want to have to go vote, but mostly because lol.

    • R.J.

You are in Albuquerque? I was through there late last year. I will remember next time I come through.

      • groat scotum

Sorry for the movie failure tonight, it was truly live yesterday. Wretched luck.
I will say that The Nest is pretty fantastic, the full length is under my suggested creature features. A trailer is below:

    • MikeS

We appreciate the work you put in to keep us entertained. You’ve had a hell of a good run. Sometimes shit happens.

      • R.J.

Thanks. Boy, every shit that could happen did so this week. I solved about 2/3’s of it. I should go back and look at my Glibs horoscope. I told the wife I was just going to sit here tonight and not contribute anything btu a few empty beer bottles. I’ll pick up the messy house tomorrow.

      • MikeS

I’m emptying a couple beer cans in solidarity with you. 🍺✊🏻

    • Evan from Evansville

No worries nor troubles, bubbles. I enjoy your commentary and hearing or being reminded of good fun.

The Nest looks like great fun. And dammit, the movie poster of “a woman in underwear being ravaged by a giant cockroach” is oddly hot. Also: “The filmmakers used 2,000 flying cockroaches during filming.. ..When some of the insects escaped into nearby dressing rooms, the American Humane Association was unable to assist them as the organization must be contacted prior to shooting on matters concerning insects.”

*Head meets desk* That’s not who I would call for assistance. (I highly doubt I’d call anyone. Maybe order more from the “World of Animals” they got ’em from. That musta been a shitty day+ to get dressed for work.

“Democratic Party research and media reports show that many senior party officials and operatives are preparing for the possibility of a Trump victory. Accordingly, planning is focused on undermining the incoming president with enough violence to rock his administration. Prominent post-election scenarios forecast such widespread rioting that the newly elected president would be compelled to invoke the Insurrection Act. With some senior military officials refusing to follow Trump’s orders, according to the scenarios, the U.S. Armed Forces would split, leaving America on the edge of the abyss.”

      That’s depressingly plausible.

I don’t think this ends the way they supposedly think it does. They don’t have the ability to control the level of execution as finely as they need to to keep their heads off of pikes.

I’m skeptical that they’re stupid enough to think they can legit spin up an insurrection and still control it enough to avoid getting a hot war out of it.

      • UnCivilServant

If we get a hot civil war, I don’t think anybody currently in positions of power makes it out the other end.

They are target #1 for the other side, and there are no clean front lines.

      • groat scotum

        I have a suggestion:

deploy to red states, and let blue states rot,

and for the most part, ignore it. What are they going to do, burn down another Walgreens? Force CVS out of more neighborhoods? It’s a big country, there’s enough suffering to go around.

      • groat scotum

I hear some of y’all states have Wegmans and Hebes, which frankly sounds antisemitic but I’m not a sophisticated man.

I hear you all have Wawas and Sheetz and nothing like our wholesome generic gas-brand corner stores, let alone Allsups.

Nope, I’ve seen enough of you coastals.

I haven’t watched it, but it comes highly recommended by David Burge…

In this 19th century, supernatural winter epic, a drunken applejack salesman must go from zero to hero and become North America’s greatest fur trapper by defeating hundreds of beavers.

I’m going to mention again, that Tokyo Gore Police is on Tubi.

      I thought I showed that.
I just gave my signed poster as a house warming gift to a young man who got his first house. He was thrilled.

It is unlikely that the Biden-Harris administration will proceed with criminal prosecution.

I thought I heard he wanted to run for NYC mayor.

Dude is shameless, in any event.

Hey, I think that was today’s mid morning story theme

    • Gender Traitor

Would this investigation have even seen the light of day had he not fallen out of favor due to, if I recall correctly, some sort of sexual allegations? Or were the sexual allegations just the excuse to push him aside because he was no longer politically useful? Either way, apparently in some quarters it’s OK to kill geezers but unforgivable to make risque comments to grown-ass women.

Good afternoon, Pie! So…you mean a nice big cape with a stand-up collar to keep the wind off your neck?

      • Ted S.

He really meant get a cloaca.

      • PieInTheSky

a proper collar makes or breaks a garment

      Good morning, Sean and U!

I guess it’s time to put my capris away for the season. 😞 And make sure I have enough pairs of socks that don’t drive me crazy. 😒

        Morning, GT. How goes it?

My morning started off with too few hours of sleep, but I got out the door at the earliest possible time that wouldn’t cause me to wait for the store to open (They unlocked the doors as I arrived). I got out within six minutes and got on the road. The road before me was empty, but I caught a red. While I waited, out of the side street came pouring ten thousand cars, trucks, semis, buses and a street sweeper. By catching that red I’d gone from clear roads to stuck in heavy traffic. To rub salt into the wounds, a truck with eye-level hyperbright headlights pulled in behind me. So in the end I was six minutes behind schedule by the time I reached my cube.

So far, so good for me. It’s the first of the month, so of course I’ll have all the usual month-end reports to work on, but I have a head start on two of them. Yesterday I pretty much finished my draft of LAST month’s Board meeting minutes, though I may give another listen to the last agenda topic to see if any other details of the discussion should be mentioned.

I gather Atkins frozen lunches are among the products affected by a large meat recall, so the selection at my grocery still sucks. I may need to come up with another long term plan for easy, low-carb lunches at work.

      • UnCivilServant

Lunch is hard. I get a half hour, and I don’t want to get mired in shared fridge shenanigans (worse, find there’s a lunch thief about)

      • Gender Traitor

I had an emergency backup can of Chunky Soup yesterday, but I, too, take just half an hour, and I find soup fairly slow to eat. Worst of all, it tends to make a mess in the microwave AND you have to clean up the bowl afterward.

      • UnCivilServant

If I am eating canned soup in a compressed time frame, I have a bad habit of just opening the can and putting the spoon in.

      • Ted S.

Get a lunchbox and one of those refreezable blocks. Keep the box in your desk or someplace else out of the kitchen.

      • UnCivilServant

        A: too much work.

B: the office has had a mouse problem since the seventies.

      • Gender Traitor

I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the concept of eating soup at room temperature.

I suppose there are worse things.

      • UnCivilServant

        eating soup at room temperature

I did say it was a bad habit.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Hey, yeah, this weekend’s as good as any for my annual Dumb and Dumber rewatch.

Trivia: Jim Carrey stayed in the haunted room at the Stanley during filming for one night. He tried to screw with the ghosts. After that night he refused to go back in the Stanley and all the camera shots had to be changed to the exterior.

Sorry folks, no Stoic Friday today.

Had something come up last night and forgot all about it until I was going to sleep.

I’ll make up for it with another exciting truck article.

      • UnCivilServant

Sorry, the tone of that could easily be misinterpreted.

It was intended to be unserious, but came off wrong.

    • R.J.

      I shall remain stoic.

Nobody likes him, nobody respects him, and he’s unattractive both inside and out! He should go back to talk about the person he was forced to support, because I didn’t want it, Lyin’ Kamala Harris. Also, he’s got no clubhead speed!” Trump said on X.

    Emphasis added.
