IFLA: The “LIES!” Edition of the Horoscope for the Week of October 20

by | Oct 20, 2024 | IFLA | 40 comments

Being different was important in the ’70s. Being different and looking good while doing it was definitely an ’80s thing. AS was accessorizing with whatever you found lying around.

This week’s main theme is the result of Jupiter retrograde hanging out in Gemini with a boost from the moon. That being — people are liars.

The two most significant days this week are Tuesday and Thursday. On the first day expect either a major event on the war front, or at least major news about a military endeavor. That is one bad thing about the ancient origins of astrology, real-time-communication wasn’t a thing yet so the difference between “an event” and “news of an event” is unclear when Mercury is involved. Two days later is a more eventful day. We’ve got a conjunction of Mars and the Moon, but we’ve also for the moon amplifying that effect of Jupiter retrograde I mentioned. The conjunction though is in Cancer, so assuming you don’t run a seafood restaurant, you should come out the other side of the event relatively unscathed. Signs are still warning against trying to bullshit your way into someone’s pants.

Libra: 4 of Wands – Country life, haven of refuge, a species of domestic harvest-home, repose, concord, harmony, prosperity, peace

Scorpio: Ace of Coins – Perfect contentment, felicity, ecstasy, speedy intelligence, gold.

Sagittarius: The High Priestess – Secrets, mystery, the future as yet unrevealed, silence, tenacity, mystery, wisdom, science.

Capricorn: 7 of Wands reversed – Perplexity, embarrassments, anxiety. It is also a caution against indecision.

Aquarius: The Moon reversed – Instability, inconstancy, silence, lesser degrees of deception and error.

Pisces: The Hanged man – Wisdom, circumspection, discernment, trials, sacrifice, intuition, divination, prophecy.

Aries: 10 of Wands – Oppression simply, but it is also fortune, gain, any kind of success, and then it is the oppression of these things. It is also a card of false-seeming, disguise, perfidy. Also, you may be bringing trouble with you .

Taurus: 5 of Wands reversed –  Litigation, disputes, trickery, contradiction.

Gemini: The Sun – Material happiness, fortunate marriage, contentment.

Cancer: 3 of Cups – The conclusion of any matter in plenty, perfection and merriment; happy issue, victory, fulfilment, solace, healing.

Leo: 4 of Cups – Weariness, disgust, aversion, imaginary vexations, dissatisfaction. It is als a warning against temptations and greed.

Virgo: Six of Swords reversed – Declaration, confession, publicity

A friend and I compete against each other (and the clock) doing the NYT “Mini” everyday. Fun and doesn’t (usually) take much time.

I did it in 36. She did it in17

Sounds like a good week to start my own religion.

“Cancer: 3 of Cups – The conclusion of any matter in plenty, perfection and merriment; happy issue, victory, fulfilment, solace, healing.”

    Yep. Totally getting some.

This is exactly what I need to be reading right now.

Sagittarius: The High Priestess – Secrets, mystery, the future as yet unrevealed, silence, tenacity, mystery, wisdom, science.

    Sounds like work.

Gemini: The Sun – Material happiness, fortunate marriage, contentment.

If I got married this week, I don’t think it would be fortunate….

I’d like to find some of this felicity NA is talking about.

Should I buy a lottery ticket?

      • Aloysious

I’ve never seen that movie. You picked a clip that makes it look intriguing. Darn you.

    Sounds sufficiently shitty.

Stephen Cox, the current editor of Liberty, has died.

I wish that periodical were more prolific though I still look at its internet presence occasionally. I remember buying the print version at B&N.

      • DEG

I used to have a subscription.

It went downhill when it went online only. But, still better than reason.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Oh yes, much more researched than Reason. Like assignments sometimes.

Used to enjoy Bill Bradford’s “Liberty.”. Great articles and lot’s of “inside the LP” stuff re Murray vs. Crane. Had lunch with Bill in Port Townsend once and he admitted there were lots of LP stuff (rumors ,gossip, feuds, romances, etc.) that he just couldn’t publish!

    Mystifying distrust

Republican Donald Trump, who still refuses to accept that he lost the 2020 election to Democrat Joe Biden, says he wants a presidential victory Nov. 5 to be so overwhelming that the results are “too big to rig.”

“We want a landslide,” he recently told supporters in Georgia. “We can’t let anything happen.”

No matter the margins, Republicans and Democrats are preparing for a potentially lengthy battle over the results once they come in. Dozens of lawsuits that could set the stage for challenges after the votes are counted are already playing out in courts across the country. Most have been filed by Republicans and their allies. Many of the cases involve challenges to mail-in balloting, ballots from overseas voters and claims of voting by people who are not U.S citizens.

Meanwhile, state election authorities are doing everything in their power to make the election process as fair and transparent and verifiable as possible, right?

    Right?

I’m sorry, but I can’t hear you through this cardboard and the sound of water mains breaking.

  9. Evan from Evansville

Taurus: 5 of Wands reversed – Litigation, disputes, trickery, contradiction.

I assume new employment tax forms count as litigation, and I did just find my friend got hired as a “Todd County Court Social Eligibility Worker” in MN. That’s litigious! I trust that outweighs all the others, which I cannot say I call reading.

  10. Evan from Evansville

I also strongly dig The Black Key’s first two albums, at least. Rock on.

And I gather he bought out the place so that the franchisee wouldn’t suffer.

Complaint incoming from Kamala that she did it first.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

As Adam Carolla et alia keep saying: When? where? how long?

I can remember my first job’s manager, address, and phone number. Two thirds of them are still there.

    • Tundra

Ok, that’s hilarious. Him asking the kid all kinds of questions was great.

“Never touched by human hands” lol!

October 20th and it’s 85 degrees out there.

    Fucking global warming.

    • trshmnstr

A bit of rain would be nice here. We’re on the edge between “severe” and “extreme” drought according to NOAA. We haven’t gotten a good soaking rain in a month, and haven’t had more than 2 or 3 days of soaking rain since independence day.

      • kinnath

Yes, we are in a drought as well.

      • R C Dean

“We haven’t gotten a good soaking rain in a month, and haven’t had more than 2 or 3 days of soaking rain since independence day.”

    ——

    Matthew 24:6

6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.

    —————

    Jeremiah 8:10

From the least to the greatest,
    all are greedy for gain;
    prophets and priests alike,
    all practice deceit.

They dress the wound of my people
as though it were not serious.

    ‘Peace, peace,’ they say,
    when there is no peace.”
