That is how she got her start in politics.
Same people who were running the country six months ago or six years ago.
The assumption that the president actually does anything, let alone anything useful.
Chief executives are not actually running anything, really. Which is fine, particularly if they are good at being the visible and competent-seeming leader when dealing with those powerful interests outside the organization.
I can’t recall the last time I saw one of them in the wild.
Early on in my time with the state, the agency commissioner (top person in theory, political appointee) decided to go walkabout in the office. She was surprised when my response to her showing up by my cube was “Who are you?”
My boss asked me the same question.
That’s probably why there hasn’t been any policy differences over the last 30 years, why we’ve had no change in the border influx at all no change in tax policy over the last 40 years, didn’t leave Afghanistan (albeit way too late), saw men on women’s sports teams going back over a century, and metoo and DEI was totally the same thing in 2019 that it was in 1993.
Will Boeing be stupid enough to give in to the union and restore pensions?
“Dear Union Members – we are officially broke. We can’t give you any pensions because we have no money. Also, don’t come into work monday, we can’t afford to pay you.”
Or will the NLRB force Boeing to bring them back under the guise of ‘bargaining in good faith’?
This guy gets it.
Depends, did Boeing’s union give or withhold an endorsement this election?
It’ll be their problem, which means our problem.
They should. They pay the ransom and get their company back. When it goes bankrupt the taxpayers bail them out. It’s a win-win.
Archived version of ET SCOTUS article (bypasses pay/registration walls):

Interesting. My bet is the Supreme Court kicks it back to the states, potentially nullifies some federal regs. Mostly because this has nothing to do with discrimination and everything to do with paying for somebody else’s healthcare.
Healthcare? It’s child abuse and medical malpractice.
The federal government has suggested that “transgender persons” should be considered a “quasi-suspect” class; in other words, one that receives heightened legal protection under the equal protection clause.
“Quasi-suspect”? Well, they are mentally ill.
They get extra protection in the name of equal protection.
Makes perfect sense.
I can fully understand her position that he’s just as capable as she would be.
It’s no more a social issue than laws prohibiting pedophilia.
We already have an immigration policy with a pathway to citizenship; it requires playing by the rules and waiting one’s turn.
“I believe in a proper border — but it is only humane to let everyone in!”
Are you crazy? This racist, sexist, bigoted hellscape isn’t safe for foreigners. Keeping them out is for their own good.
” it requires playing by the rules and waiting one’s turn.”
It’s my citizenship and I want it now! /sarc
Other than voting are there any other benefits denied to non-citizens?
In theory, they can be removed to their country of citizenship and denied re-entry.
They’re also not supposed to hold certain jobs.
They are not supposed to get welfare or other cash benefits, either.
That ship sailed.
I remember when “a pathway to citizenship” (and voting – wink wink) for illegals was just a wingnut conspiracy theory. I guess her openly admitting it is some sort of progress.
TBF, our legal immigration system sucks balls. That does not however, mean it’s ok to try to bypass it.
Enforce the border, simplify the immigration system.
Higher walls, wider gates.
I would go with high walls, closed gates for a period of time, until we clean out the current lot of illegals and figure out just what immigration policy is beneficial for American citizens.
I’m on board with Dean’s idea. We’re not homo economicus. Culture matters. Flooding this country with 10s of millions of people who haven’t yet assimilated is eroding the shared culture, and the damage needs to be stopped and assessed before we open the floodgates even wider.
Mine is a preferred destination – I don’t disagree that it would require a messy clean-up period.
I’m still in the “Higher walls, closed gates, helicopter rides for commies” camp.
beneficial for American citizens.
That right there is the problem.
Must be why my state is trying to change its constitution to make the current insanity surrounding these issues permanent.
Is insanity reversible?

Tulsi Gabbard Announces She’s Joining GOP at Trump Rally
Why? Isn’t being an independent or a libertarian cooler? Also, was there some sort of baptism?
I misread that as “Drug-filled Cratons” and wondered how such large geologic formations got filled up so easily.
Also, was there some sort of baptism? – was she naked? are there pictures? questions questions…
It was in the Pacific Ocean and she wore a tasteful white bikini.
Why?
It doesn’t seem to get her much immediately, but maybe she’s setting herself up for another run for office in the future. Although if Trump loses, everybody associated with his campaign is going to be the subject of never-ending lawfare.
Being in the party gives her access to funds and media and such. I hope she’s planning on running for something. We could use another Senator or Rep who hates the political establishment.
Meh. Is Tulsi still gun-grabby? Green New Deal-adjacent? As I recall, her only appealing policy position from a libertarian standpoint was that of not sticking our dicks in every hornet’s nest in the world.
Given how Team Blue has abused her over the years (RuSsIaN sToOgE accusation from Hilldawg, sticking her on a TSA terror watch list, etc.) I can see her motivation to stick a thumb in the eyes of the donkeys, but otherwise… meh.
She has walked back most of that foolishness. She even used the word “wrong” regarding guns. How sincere she is I have no idea but having her close to power worries me less than most of the swamp creatures.
I think she’s sincere about her conversion to gun rights. I was skeptical at first, but she competes in those “tactical games” run-n-gun events (and not just as photo ops), and I don’t think you would do that unless you were serious.
Agree with RC, and I would also say getting abused by the Dems has made her a big defender of the First Amendment as well. If all she does is protect free speech, oppose wars, and fuck with the Dems, that’s fine by me.

joy will be mandatory
My experience is the same as bad kitty’s. I can have knock-down, drag out fights with my conservative pals and nothing else happens. I make one little heretical comment to a proggy and the world ends.
I can have glibbish, one-on-one conversations with one of my best friends. But when his wife is around, forgeddabout it. He becomes a different person.
I don’t blame him. Over the years, I have perfected the art of masking those opinions I know will be met with disapproval by the people around me for the sake of not having to deal with the mess.
I too have a friend like that. Super liberal, lives in SF, we could drink beer and talk about this stuff for days. But he just moved in with a new girlfriend, so…
perfected the art of masking those opinions
A couple weeks ago I had to complete a nominally anonymous (and hopefully anonymous in fact) employee satisfaction survey. One of the questions was “can you be your authentic self at work” or similar. HA HA HA no I cannot.
If I were my authentic self at work – things would not go well for anyone.
One of the questions was “can you be your authentic self at work” or similar. HA HA HA no I cannot.
Answering yes gets you more of the same. Answering no gets you more DEI. A catch 22
UCS gets it. Work is work they wouldn’t like my authentic self, nor would I like theirs. We are here to get a task done.
I have had disagreements and multiple conversations, over years, with GOP friends over issues. They continue to be friends.
Lefties drop “friendship” over stepping off of the rez at the drop of a hat.
Dissent was once patriotic, now it is heresy.
Get with the program or move to Russia.
I had a friend who passed about a year ago who was a raging socialist progressive. We used to chop it up and he had as much fun with it as I did. One of the last laughs we had together was when I said it looks like his cousin is coming around when I pointed out his cousin’s license plate was MAGA adjacent because it started with “FJB”. There are still some people civil, even if wrong, about politics.
The chart was the best part

I’d wager that the numbers dropping over time are just a function of maturity and not generational cohort thing.
I.e., I’d expect Gen Z Liberals to stop being such dicks about it as they mature.
But maybe the damage is too great.
Interesting point.
I can only speak personally when I was the age of Gen Z in the last century I didn’t care what the politics of my friends were.
I’d wager that the numbers dropping over time are just a function of maturity and not generational cohort thing.
Probably. Interestingly, the ratio stays almost constant at 0.5 through all cohorts. So liberals are twice as likely to be dicks in all age groups, even the absolute number of dicks, to Mrs. Garrisons chagrin, falls.
I don’t think the drop off is strictly related to aging/maturity. I can’t remember any other time in my life when political disagreement led to such extreme responses (note that the vietnam war time might be close).
Young liberals are completely off their rockers at this point.
Same here. Libs go crazy if you have different views. Yet they can never defend their own. I only had one liberal friend who engaged me in food faith and debates.
Holy Guacamole!
I’ll say it again, the Devil hides in autocorrect.
Pineapple is delicious on pizza.
Pineapple is too sweet and becomes a napalm bomb due to the high moisture content – which also causes problems with the neighboring parts of the dish. It just doesn’t play well with others.
I’m going with Scott Adams. This is no longer a disagreement about politics, it’s mental illness.
I remember during the end of Obama’s term, when the riots started. There was a mindset if “You agree with us, or you are the enemy” which began right around then. It was articulated by DEI pushers.
Yep, that’s around when it shifted from “you agree with me or you’re a redneck moron” to “you agree with me or youre the enemy”.
Yup, Obama played a huge part in deliberately stirring up this shit. He learned how at the feet of his Marxist heroes.
If you disagree with Obama, you’re not just wrong, you’re a racist. And racism is the greatest most unforgivable of all sins.
Likely your conservative friends believe in God. Your proggy friends have adopted politics as their religion, so a disagreement isn’t just a disagreement but heresy.

Did you all know that the US wasn’t the only country with slavery?
Wait, the US had slavery?
Yeah but I think we were the only one. I mean, if someone like say Turkey for instance had slavery there’d be a lot of black people there, right?
The Arab and Turkish slave trade was a funny beast. Brutal towards the ‘Zanj’, but white critisan balkin slaves were told to run the country while women from the caucuses were the mothers of the next sultans. The part that makes it even funnier is that the empire began to fall apart when they stopped giving the government to the brightest of the balkin boys and started divvying it up among those born muslim.
The US Invented slavery. In 1619. And forced all other countries and peoples in the world to start the practice in order to provide cover. Every Bible, every document written before that time that now mentions slavery has been retconned, the previous editions destroyed. They were very thorough in their memory-holing.
Don’t forget the whole history of the Janissaries and Mameluke Beys, in Turkey and Egypt respectively. Slave armies that were more trusted than family, at least until the Mameluke’s were slaughtered in mass during a power play in Egypt pre-France takeover (and probably disarmed them enough to enable that.
The Balkin boys I referenced were those, Zwak.

That was hilarious
I’m an absolute and total information junkie and it wasn’t until I was in my late 30’s that I saw that about 10% of the African Atlantic slave trade went to the United States with most of the rest going to Brazil and the Caribbean. I also learned that slavery wasn’t made officially illegal in much of the Arab world until the 1950’s and 60’s, and Mauritania in the 80’s. Also that over 1 million Europeans were taken as slaves to North African markets in the late 1700’s to early 1800’s.
Funny how they glossed over that during our mandatory schooling.
Also funny how there are no black people in Saudi Arabian or neighboring countries despite millions of African slaves being sold there.
Funny indeed. I’d guess that the percentage of Americans who would know those facts would be well less than one percent. Slavery is very much presented as a (literal) black and white issue that happened almost exclusively in one place and for one time period. Thinking back on what set me off on reading more about slavery was a small section in Sowell’s “Basic Econonics” in which he talks about the etymology of the world “slave” and why.
Pay no attention to all those slavic peoples in chains.

The editorials editor for the Los Angeles Times stepped down Wednesday after the newspaper’s billionaire owner stopped the publication’s expected endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
Mariel Garza is leaving her post at the Times because she wants “to make it clear that I am not OK with us being silent” after biotech entrepreneur Patrick Soon-Shiong scrapped the paper’s endorsement for president.
Because without the LAT’s official endorsement there is no way Harris will win CA.

“In 2017, Cuyahoga County DCFS was one of four social services agencies nationwide chosen to research, develop and evaluate transgender ideology-based child welfare interventions that suggest parents and caregivers who do not affirm a child’s sexual orientation or gender confusion are unsafe and may need to have their children removed from their home. Members of the Biden-Harris administration called the Cuyahoga County group “trailblazers” and wanted to nationalize their model. The Cuyahoga County DCFS team influenced the recently finalized Biden-Harris rule which requires child welfare systems to validate and support gender confusion.”

Why yes.
“Stingel, a longtime North Wildwood resident, told The Washington Post she appreciated her place in the boardwalk’s history and hadn’t thought to question the city’s usage of her recording, which she provided without signing a contract or obtaining copyright. But last year, she visited the boardwalk gift store and saw plush tram toys on sale that played her voice.”

I posted about the LI shop a while ago. Again, why?
Jimmy John’s Picklewich was likely inspired by the pickle sandwich from the Long Island store Seven Brothers Gourmet Food Market that went viral on TikTok over the summer. That sandwich also featured a scooped-out pickle filled with deli meat, cheese, bacon, and some additional toppings.
https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/jimmy-johns-releasing-first-kind-100000863.html
Your flavor ratios are going to be off, and the pickle is either going to introduce far too much liquid, or be too dried out to eat.
Plus, I worry they’re going to use pickled whole cucumber, where the skin keeps the pickling liquid from getting inside and flavoring it. Spears are the best pickle shape for flavor and crispness.
Carbs are bad?

In a post on the social media platform X that did not directly mention the resignation, LA Times owner Patrick Soon-Shiong said the board was asked to do a factual analysis of the policies of Harris and Republican former President Donald Trump during their time at the White House.
Additionally, “The board was asked to provide (its) understanding of the policies and plans enunciated by the candidates during this campaign and its potential effect on the nation in the next four years,” he wrote. “In this way, with this clear and non-partisan information side-by-side, our readers could decide who would be worthy of being president for the next four years.”

“We are aware of nothing like this in modern political history,” the officials wrote in the letter obtained by The Washington Post.
They noted that the DOJ has long held that “anything having monetary value,” including a lottery, could be considered a prohibited payment for voter registration.
“We recognize that they are framed as payments for signing a petition, or for referring voters who sign,” the letter reads. “But many of the payments are restricted to registered voters, so anyone who wishes to get paid must first register.”
If Mark Zuckerberg was doing this, they would cheerfully wave any objections away by saying not everybody who registers gets paid.

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) also described the sweepstakes as “deeply concerning” and suggested that it “raises serious questions that folks may want to take a look at.”
“I think there are real questions with how he is spending money in this race. How the dark money is flowing, not just into Pennsylvania but apparently now into the pockets of Pennsylvanians,” Shapiro said Sunday on NBC News’s “Meet the Press.”

Youre not a Keystoner.
Meanwhile Kamala has laundered who knows how many hundreds of millions of dollars through ActBlue but let’s not talk about that.
And how much “dark money” came from people named Soros?
I think that would have been really interesting. It would give you lots of electric for camping and the like and the range that you need to take this on trips. They could have also used a much smaller, cheaper and lighter battery. This is a case where the complexity of a hybrid has some real benefit.

On Tuesday evening, Musk reshared a fake image on X that showed an article from the magazine reading “Trump Is Literally Hitler.” The article was never written for or published by The Atlantic, but Musk appeared to take the image as truth, commenting, “They are literally foaming at the mouth 😂.”
The day after Musk posted the message, which had amassed over 20 million views, The Atlantic said in a statement that it did not publish an article with that headline.
The statement did not mention Musk by name. In a statement to NBC News, a spokesperson for The Atlantic condemned sharing fake images like the one Musk reposted, saying, “The images are harmful and irresponsible, they misinform and manipulate people who encounter them, often using our own writers’ actual bylines.”
Satire is hard.
Someone put two and two together yesterday about Kamala’s crazy Hitler speech and those Atlantic articles. The Atlantic’s editor (?) is Steve Jobs’ widow, and she’s BFF’s with Kamala. So those two are coordinating the revival of the Trump as Hitler strategy.

A famous grizzly bear beloved for decades by countless tourists, biologists and professional wildlife photographers in Grand Teton National Park is dead after being struck by a vehicle in western Wyoming.
Grizzly No. 399 died Tuesday night on a highway in Snake River Canyon south of Jackson, park officials said in a statement Wednesday, adding the driver was unhurt. A yearling cub was with the grizzly when she was struck and though not believed to have been hurt, its whereabouts were unknown, according to the statement.
The circumstances of the crash were unclear. Grand Teton and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials said they had no further information to release about it.
