Monday Afternoon Money Links

A pfennig, franc or pound?

I startled myself by remembering I had links today…I am working on lots of things that are all tied up because…money. No surprise when you work for the Swiss. Why not make that a theme o’ the links, thought I. So here you go.

  • Cam girl for $, flashes goods – it didn’t work.
  • New hole for treasure to be shoveled into. Probably blood too.
  • Worth every penny of the 700 million Euros (all donated!).
  • Swiss money…a changin’.

Music – not what you think.

Comment section is yours (I expect about a dozen songs about money to be posted…)

Music – not what you think.

    Nope, definitely not.

    Not even the catbutt version…

  2. The Other Kevin

“Cam girl for $, flashes goods – it didn’t work.”

That has never happened at any of my hockey games for some reason.

    • SDF-7

It is hard to puck when things are cold and shrunken.

    • Spartacus

      Have you tried free tickets?

    • creech

      Hanrahan’s wife says “Hi.”

    • R C Dean

Why do all these camwhores look like they were stamped from 2 or 3 molds, anyway?

      • UnCivilServant

The simulation only has so many NPC models, and doesn’t expect anyone to pay attention to more than 2 or 3.

      • The Artist Formerly Known as Lackadaisical

The market sends signals, but I find that various makeup, surgeries and fillers, filters etc. Tend to converge on a single look.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

Agreed. It’s the result of filters homogenizing faces into a particular look.

  3. SDF-7

Cam girl for $, flashes goods – it didn’t work.

I know I’m definitely on the prudish side round these parts and all… but I do sincerely wish “being a cam whore” wasn’t apparently the desired career path for so many young women post-Kardashians or whatever-caused-it.

    • slumbrew

       Preach.

    • The Other Kevin

I found it more depressing when I found out how few of them make the big bucks. Probably, what, 90% or more are selling their dignity for a few dollars a month.

      • slumbrew

        I think you’re missing several 9s

      • The Other Kevin

Just pulling that out of nowhere, but you are most likely correct.

    • Nephilium

The difference between the old one in a million jobs (actor, musician, comedian, etc.) was that you had to go somewhere to try to get them. Anyone can camwhore from their house pretty easily. Camwhore also doesn’t seem to have the stigma of stripper “dancer”, probably because they aren’t seeing the consumers, and likely will never need to interact with them in person.

      • Tundra

OF got a huge bump during Covid when the strip clubs were shut down.

    • Shpip

Hey, not everybody‘s cut out to be a Communications major.

    • The Other Kevin

This isn’t too hard to spin. You see, Trump is a bad man, and his cabinet is all bad people who have an enemies list and will make up false crimes to charge innocent Dems with. Biden is doing this to keep those innocent souls out of Trump prison.

    • Ted S.

What’s with the Grieg music bed, though?

    • SDF-7

Heh…. you would think I would have gone there, being the normal PSB linker. Nicely done, TOK.

Each banknote in the ninth series has a theme and an ‘element’. In the case of the CHF100, the theme is humanitarian tradition and the element is water.

Eagerly awaiting the Earth, Wind & Fire bank note.

Yeah, that made the rounds last week.

Who do you root for here?

Dec 6 (Reuters) – A sizable payday could await two private law firms hired by the state of Texas for its antitrust lawsuit against asset managers BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street for allegedly driving up energy prices through climate activism.

Contracts with the Texas attorney general’s office show that the Buzbee Law Firm and Cooper & Kirk stand to receive success fees of up to $3,780 per hour or 10% of Texas’ potential recovery in the case.

    https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/contracts-texas-blackrock-lawsuit-show-fees-private-law-firms-2024-12-06/

    • slumbrew

That reminds me of the law firm that got Musk’s Tesla payout nixed for being too excessive who wanted billions in lawyers fees.

      That’s some chutzpah.

  6. slumbrew

Regularly changing what your banknotes look like seems like a bad idea to me, but what do I know.

    • rhywun

Odd how German “dance of the ant” turned into English “dance of death”.

    • Rat on a train

I found out the hard way that the Philippines expires old series. I had about $50 in pesos left over from a trip. A few years later they were no longer accepted.

  7. Spartacus

“The reconstruction effort cost around 700 million euros ($750 million), financed from donations, with the five-year re-opening deadline met despite predictions it could take decades.”

What a waste of money. Why for that kind of coin, you could probably build another quarter mile of high speed rail in California. A quarter mile! Some people need to get their priorities right.

    • The Other Kevin

How about military equipment for Ukraine that will be destroyed in 2 days?

“The court was previously told she had come to Australia to attend clown school and claimed she brought the gun for protection.”

I think she is going as a visiting professor.

      • R.J.

Well, she is definitely a clown.

    • EvilSheldon

“Prosecutors submitted earlier that the gun looks particularly confronting and would ‘terrify members of the community’, which Horan agreed with.”

Are we sure that they were talking about the gun here?

“Goodson told police she was actually ‘scared’ of shooting the gun and hoped simply producing it would be enough to deter potential threats.

‘If that didn’t do it I would probably just pistol whip,’ Goodson was quoted as having said.”

“Bird, I know you’re an ignorant little redneck Jersey asshole, but do you have to keep goddamn reminding me of it?”

“The court was told in recent years, Goodson was using psychedelic drugs, synthetic cannabis and crystal meth amphetamines (sic).”

      You. Don’t. Fucking. Say?

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

She should be arrested for whatever it is she’s done with her face.

      • PutridMeat

Biden says U.S. will support Syria and its neighbors after Assad dynasty collapses

Biden… oh right, I forgot about that guy. Is he still President?

    • Compelled Speechless

On paper. In reality the only decision they’ve let that guy make in the last 4 years is cookies and cream or rocky road.

  9. Suthenboy

Cam girls and money: One of the reasons I am of the opinion that we are just monkeys is the natural tendency, even if we are mostly unaware of it, for us to meet or see someone and first thoughts are “Would I fuck them?” and/or “Can I get something out of them?”.
As for our notions about nudity – this is just the way we are made. Grow up and come to terms with it. I see someone nude and I think….there is a person. I have seen that before. I dont formulate an opinion about their attractiveness or if they are fuckable. I am certainly not going to give some woman I have never and will never meet money to see her tits.

*dont get me started on our impulse to ‘display and advertise’.

  10. JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

What’s the point of having an empire if we are the ones paying tribute?

    • slumbrew

      Worst. Empire. Ever.

  11. DEG

During a re-opening service on Saturday attended by world leaders including US President-elect Donald Trump, Macron expressed the “gratitude of the French nation” for the restoration work since 2019.

I saw Zelensky in the video. I guess he has to work the network to get some more money.

    • Suthenboy

Has any enterprising reporter bothered to find out what Zelensky’s personal worth is? That is information that seems suspiciously missing from all of the reporting about the wonders and glory of Ukrainian struggle for democracy.

      • Suthenboy

Also, the weaponry that he is purchasing….from whom? What does their bottom line look like before the US aid and now?

      • KSuellington

He will be retiring in Montecito no doubt. Stopping by the Sussexes for parties and mingling with the Hollywood set.

      • Suthenboy

Also, What are Ukraine’s and the defense contractor’s contributions to US political parties?

      • Suthenboy

KS – I have seen photos of him at various shindigs. He is a pariah. Before and after his begging for money he stands around with his hands in his pockets while everyone turns their backs to him. He is a two-bit tin-pot thug and grifter, they all know it. He is good enough as a bag man for their money laundering operation but they dont want to have anything to do with him personally. His retirement will amount to a binge of hookers, blow and avoiding gambling debts until Putin manages to slip him a big gulp of polonium.

      • KSuellington

Heheh. You are probably right on that. I wonder what the over/under is on amount of weeks after Jan 20th that will pass before a permanent cease fire is called there. I’d say 2 or 3 weeks and I might even take the under on that.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Only a Russian agent would ask such a question.

      • Suthenboy

JR – That’s what I figure. If anyone were to start asking around about that they would probably get clumsy and step in front of a bus.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

“He is a two-bit tin-pot thug and grifter, they all know it.”

That doesn’t explain no one talking to him though…

    • Grumbletarian

Interesting contrast seeing Zelenskyy slouching around dressed like a homeless person with everyone next to him in formal attire.

  12. Chafed

Good and appropriate music choice Swiss.

  13. Aloysious

    Ha.

    Music choice does not disappoint.

    • Tundra

In part, that came from a June 2023 storm that left her home with $500,000 in hail and water damage that insurance wouldn’t cover; sky-high interest rates that tripled her adjustable-rate mortgage and led to foreclosure; and increasing utility, gas and food costs.

      Looks like decisions were made.

      • KSuellington

Hopefully this news attention gives her the fame to actually make some real money showing off her tits. Sounds like she got screwed and not in a good way.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

      D-D-Danger, Will Robinson!

  14. KSuellington

Interesting news day. Penny got off as he damn well should have and is rightly celebrating by going bar hopping in Manhattan.
CEO killer was exactly who I thought he would be, anti capitalist severely educated type.

      • KSuellington

Heheh. They still are at it I guess. The dude apparently has quoted extensively from noted conservative, Ted Kaczinski. The report I read said he also had a number of anti capitalist and climate change posts. Classic conservative there.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Jonathan Haidt is conservative? That will be news to him.

      • rhywun

        OFFS!

    • Brochettaward

CEO killer – called it. Some guy who fancied himself a vigilante of sorts.

      • R C Dean

I’m still struggling with “Still riding around in Greyhounds days later with the fake ID and murder weapon. Oh, and written evidence of motive!”

        I mean, c’mon.

I do not have any option to post in the Dashboard. It only shows Activity (posts and comments) when I’m logged in. I’m well versed in WP. I’ve been using it for years. I know how to post. There just is no Post, Pages, Media, etc in my Dashboard.

There is some kind of permissions issue, is my guess.

  17. Necron 99

We had a layoff today. I had the dishonor of walking out a guy I’ve know for 30 or so years, both here and previous job. I actually got him a job here when he was previously laid off.

I was proud of myself, I didn’t throw up.

    • UnCivilServant

      That sucks.

      How did he take it?

      • Necron 99

He took it better than I did. He was offered retirement last month and didn’t take it, but figured this was coming. Business is slow, numbers have been revised down, heads need to be reduced.

First time I have personally walked someone out who wasn’t a retire or quit, and it was not pleasant.

      • R.J.

It is not pleasant at all. I will drink one for you tonight.

      • R C Dean

“He was offered retirement last month and didn’t take it, but figured this was coming.”

Do you know what his thinking was?

    • Sensei

      Damn that sucks.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

My wife had to do that earlier this year. She hired a longtime friend for an entry level marketing position as he was leaving academia after 20 years. He was doing a great job, then the company ran afoul of its goals and laid off the most junior positions in every department. She knew for over 2 weeks before he was told by higher ups. She felt horrible about it everyday.

      • Necron 99

At least this was sprung on me the last minute, I mean, I knew it was coming but I did not know who, or want to know.

I don’t know I can keep that kind of knowledge to myself. My sympathy to your wife.

    • Tundra

I’m sorry. I think I’d rather have a buddy nuke me than Karen from HR though.

      • Ted S.

I’d rather have a buddy nuke Karen from HR.

      • Tundra

        Well, yes.

    • DEG

      Sorry

  18. Muzzled Woodchipper

The people feeling pretty good about a murder in the streets is really fucking alarming.

“Nobody is condoning murder (NARRATOR: Except everyone excusing the killer) but if that’s what it takes to bring attention to corrupt mega monopolies literally letting people die,” wrote another. “So be it.”

If we want to talk about corrupt mega monopolies literally letting people die” let’s do government and covid first.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/inside-manifesto-person-interest-healthcare-193058694.html

    • rhywun

Not much difference with the folks wishing genocide on Jews on a regular basis in the last year.

      Large overlap, in fact.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

        Nope. Same thing.

I’m mostly pointing out the hypocrisy. Private insurance companies are monopolies and evil, while CDC/FDA/HHS/ETC bureaucrats who are responsible for more death than was necessary, and the destruction of the strongest economy in the history of the world don’t even get consideration.

    • Raven Nation

Yeah, I was saddened to see one of my friends post on social media something along the lines of “until you deal with all the people to whom you’ve denied coverage, I’m not going to have any sympathy for this piece of crap.”

My friend’s a pretty decent person and kind in many ways. This kind of sums up my central loathing of politics in America today: it provides cover justification for decent people to say shitty things without comprehending the things they are saying are shitty.

      • rhywun

Yeah, it is amazing what people are not afraid to share with the world these days.

One of the reasons I don’t social media is to avoid reading stuff like that from friends because I just know there would be lots of it.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Have these people not heard of wait times in other countries? It might not be denial of coverage explicitly, but the effect is often the same.

    • Suthenboy

So…little commie Antifa type. Shocker. Now we get to hear for the 154284365702 time the left distance themselves from their own. It used to be shocking, their gall and transparent lies. Then it was business as usual. Now it is just predictable and tiresome. I wont even bother listening to it.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

But Suthen, he couldn’t have done it…he’s too dreeeamy (another Tsarnaev situation incoming I bet; won’t keep him outta prison though).

      • juris imprudent

To be honest, there are people on the left I won’t be sorry to see obliterated, even in the same fashion.

      • R C Dean

You and me both, JI. In fact, the list in my head isn’t short.

    • R C Dean

As good an example of the “but” rule (you can disregard everything before the “but”) as you’ll find.

And I’ll say it again: denying coverage is not denying care. Health insurance is not health care.

  19. The Late P Brooks
  20. The Late P Brooks

It’s a lot easier to say, “First thing we do, let’s kill all the insurance CEOs” than to seriously examine why the “insurance” industry is so completely fucked up and how it got that way.

    • Tundra

I have a good friend who is a retired executive from that company. It was always interesting to listen to him completely ignore what they actually do.

The government fucked everything up, yes, but man a lot of people are comfortable playing the game.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

No one would argue that insurance companies don’t do fucked up things. They definitely do.

But gunning a CEO down in the streets is not the answer.

      • Tundra

I didn’t say it was. I said that people often work in really dark jobs and do some incredible moral gymnastics to sleep at night.

        Or they are fucking psychos.

      • Gustave Lytton

And getting well rewarded for doing so.

    • Brochettaward

You know, both things can be true. The CEO of most large corporations are most likely pieces of shit.

I wish some of the vitriol was reserved for politicians, as well, but I’m not losing sleep over the UHC CEO. And I find it comical that there was a nationwide manhunt for the killer when if it was just Joe Schmo no one in NYC would have batted an eye.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Yeah, sounds like the dead guy was the worst kind of corporate twat. Doesn’t make his murder excusable though, everyone’s a twat to somebody.

  21. KK, Plump & Unfiltered

Had a flat-ish tire on my date on Saturday. It’s really nice to go out with Real Men® who want to help and make sure you’re OK.

Also we took a nice walk around Pinnacle Lake at Table Rock State Park

      Nice, on both counts.

AS it should be. Glad you had fun!

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

So we can assume the date wasn’t with Rico Suave.

    • Ted S.

So how was the date with Robby Soave?

      • Tundra

        Frooty.

      • R C Dean

Pleasant stroll around a mountain lake as the sun goes down?

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

SUN GO DOWN IS WHAT STEVE SMITH WAITING FOR.

  22. The Late P Brooks

And I’ll say it again: denying coverage is not denying care. Health insurance is not health care.

But unlimited free health care is a human right.
