“Hello, and welcome to the OH DOC meeting. I’m your host, mexican sharpshooter, reminding everyone not to talk about the weather around me because you’re not going to like my answer to the question, ‘what’s the weather like where you live.’”
We’re looking at a brisk but sunny 60° high today in Phoenix to return to the high 60’s later this week. Yes I really do run committee meetings like a radio show.

Cartels are now classified as terrorist organizations. Rookie move by Trump2.0. Had he declared them white supremacist groups the FBI might actually do something.
Mexico’s President Girlboss (El Presidenté Mujer? Lets see if it sticks) talks tough.
Cuba is no longer a state sponsor of terrorism. Tune in tomorrow for an update.
The Pope is still a communist.
Panama! Panama! Pana ma ah o oo uh ah! PANAMA!
To help you with the Van Halen earworm. Have a great Tuesday!
Ominous
Still, on Monday, the warning signs were clear.
Due to frigid temperatures, Trump’s swearing-in was held in the Capitol Rotunda, where rioters seeking to keep him in power the last time roamed during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack. Trump walked into the space from the hall leading to the building’s west front tunnel, where some of the worst hand-to-hand combat between Trump supporters and police occurred that day.
——-
Hours later, Trump followed through on a campaign promise to pardon those involved in the attack — some 1,500 of his supporters, including ones who had assaulted police officers. That came after an extraordinary pardon issued by Biden — announced by the White House as he greeted Trump at the inaugural ceremony — for several members of Biden’s extended family. The 11th hour Biden pardons were a response to Trump’s continual threats to carry out a campaign of retribution against his political opponents.
The head-spinning developments of Trump’s first day back in power suggested there will be no lack of controversy during his second term.
“The form is normal,” Rick Hasen, a University of California, Los Angeles law professor, said of Trump’s inaugural. “The substance is not.”
Hasen said the pardons of those who tried to violently overturn the results of the 2020 election were particularly worrying.
“It’s harder to imagine a greater affront to the rule of law than to give pardons to those who tried to overthrow the government,” he said.
Take only what you can carry and board the train as your name is called.
“where some of the worst hand-to-hand combat between Trump supporters and police occurred that day.”
The lawn is covered with rows of white crosses for the thousands who died that fateful day.
Maybe the inauguration should have been held where two unarmed protesters were murdered by the police that day. What say you, AP News?
“Trump’s continual threats to carry out a campaign of retribution against his political opponents.”
I would complain about having to listen to this kind of lying shit for the next four years except we got no reprieve when they were in power, did we. I hope they double down to ensure a 2028 loss.
They will still be harping about this a decade after the man is gone. Even today if you say “Thatcher” or “Reagan” they hiss and cringe.
Yep, it has nothing to do with the guy himself. It’s what he represents.
Speaking to an Italian TV programme from his Vatican residence, Francis said that if the plans went ahead, Trump would make “poor wretches that don’t have anything foot the bill”.
“That’s not right. That’s not how you solve problems,” he said.
FWIW, Vatican City is enclosed by a 39-foot tall wall.
And also situated over vaults of gold and priceless art.
I’m a lifelong Catholic and I’m sick of this.
Seriously, that guy might consider keeping his trap shut once in a while.
Obligatory.
I would subsidize plane flights of migrants to Vatican City. We could get a million over there inside of a few months.
One explosive pidgeon drone is more than enough to force a change.
Couldn’t we just air drop them in via parachute?
Parachute?
*insert obligatory WKRP riff here*
As God as my witness, I thought migrants could fly!
Bobarian LMD:
The outcome.
All that Vatican wealth and no plan to use it.
We need an advisor:

Damn post-scarcity world!
Thus they are doing their damndest to destroy prosperity.
“poor wretches that don’t have anything”
Yet, somehow, they managed to travel hundreds or thousands of miles, and perhaps pay a coyote to smuggle them across the border. What’s the going rate for that?
My personal suspicion is that FedGov has been paying their way funneled through NGOs like Catholic Relief (or whatever it is called…). Those spigots need to be absolutely turned off and then investigated.
Certainly once they’re here they’ve been channeling all the welfare benefits through them… why not earlier?
Hey I was told coyote is totally not a term ever used and was never used and Trump doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
Pretty sure it’s been documented.
It’s much like your taxes going to pubsec union hacks to elect Democrats. Pick something you don’t like… you’re paying for it.
And those migrants receiving the welfare are just conduits for the money to end up in the hands of the drug/smuggling cartels.
Is the wall to keep the riffraff out, or the papists in?
Good song, not Van Halen.
Andy Craig, a fellow at the Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University, was aghast that Trump received the full, respectful pomp and circumstance of a peaceful transition that he tried to deny Biden. “This is a surreal situation in a lot of ways and I get there is no rulebook to follow, but I think people are frustrated, rightly so, with a tone deaf ‘everything is normal’ approach,” Craig said.
What was he expecting? Did he think federal marshals to lead Trump away in handcuffs?
“people are frustrated, rightly so”
A lot more of us were frustrated with the Biden admin. Next time tell your party to run someone who might actually win.
Institute for Humane Studies
Yeah, sure buddy. I definitely care what you think.
More to the point — why should we care what he thinks? “Louisa, a barista where I got my latte this morning also thought that Vance’s daughter wore too many bandaids as a sign the country is on the wrong track…. Fred, my Uber driver just asked me to shut up and pay for the ride… the nerve!”
I don’t recall Trump trying to deny Biden the full, respectful pomp and circumstance of the usual inauguration. Sure, he skipped it, but that’s hardly disruptive.
From the sidebar in the CNN article:
“The 47th US president … withdrew the US from the Paris Climate Agreement and World Health Organization.”
I hadn’t seen that elsewhere, and that is awesome. Screw those grasping mendacious fuckers.
Beyond the usual UN fuckery, the plan to give the WHO emergency powers to dictate national health policies was terrible.
Speaking to an Italian TV programme from his Vatican residence, Francis said that if the plans went ahead, Trump would make “poor wretches that don’t have anything foot the bill”.
Says the leader of a church which has looted every corner of the globe.
Woo hoo! My daughter just got a full ride for grad school in chemistry. The bad new is it’s at the University of Spoiled Children. I didn’t even have to bribe the admissions office.
Awesome, congratulations!,
Congrats to her! (and you)
Fantastic! Congrats to the fam!
Nice! Does that include housing?
I commuted from Playa del Rey when I was a USC grad student.
Not sure about housing directly, but they are offering a stipend. She also has the possibility of working at JPL while in school. Plus we have some unused 529 money and stock that my dad gave the grandkids for education, so money shouldn’t be a problem.
Sweet — sounds like she’s on a good track… part of the solution (not the precipitate!)
Grates!
Congratulations!
Awesome.
Outstanding!
Could be worse: she could have gotten a full ride to Tosu.
She doesn’t play football. Neither has USC in recent years.
What does that even mean? It’s not like we’re talking about invading Mexico. Not yet, anyway.
We’re overdue for another war with Mexico.
I assume this means she’ll be stopping hordes of “asylum seekers” at her southern border?
If we legitimately treat the cartels as terroristic organizations and she doesn’t do enough to rein them in (which admittedly is tough… silver or lead is how I understand Mexican politics), I could see some Pershing style raids in Mexico’s future.
There are unaccountable, uncorroborated anonymous people saying he’s going to green-light SF raids into Mexico.
MSM fact check? True.
I saw it. A reporter asked him, and he said something like “Maybe. Who knows?”
This is a negotiating tactic. Let your opponent think everything is on the table.
I don’t like what we are doing all over the world, but these same people clap and cheer when we dust some brown folks, just so long as its over 4000 miles away. In our backyard? All of a sudden they realize the dangers.
SugarFree raids would be truly terrifying.
I’m no Jesus expert like that guy but I’m not as certain that paying for millions of grifters to rob you blind was what He had in mind.
He did say “The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.”
Didn’t say anything about importing more of them.
Sure, Jan.
Bang bang you’re dead
The gender order states that it will “defend women’s rights and protect freedom of conscience by using clear and accurate language and policies that recognize women are biologically female, and men are biologically male.”
It requires that the federal government use the term “sex” instead of “gender,” and directs the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security to “require that government-issued identification documents, including passports, visas, and Global Entry cards, accurately reflect the holder’s sex.”
“Across the country, ideologues who deny the biological reality of sex have increasingly used legal and other socially coercive means to permit men to self-identify as women and gain access to intimate single-sex spaces and activities designed for women, from women’s domestic abuse shelters to women’s workplace showers. This is wrong,” the order reads. “Efforts to eradicate the biological reality of sex fundamentally attack women by depriving them of their dignity, safety, and well-being.”
All those poor murdered genderqueer heroes.
The whiplash from doing a complete 180 on this stuff every few years is not going to be entertaining for very long.
“It requires that the federal government use the term “sex” instead of “gender,”
Well, that is the word used in the anti-discrimination statutes, after all. As I recall, the word “gender” appears not one single time.
The Pope is still a communist.
Is this the same (fake) pontiff who said no illegals in VC? That commie?
Cartels are now classified as terrorist organizations.
I’m not sure I understand this. Particularly since a bunch of us were declared terrorists.
Exactly
You stink
Fart data is the next big thing.
This one goes in your mouth … and this one you put up your butt …
How close we actually are to that scenario with the dropping of certain standards in our medical schools anyway.
Suddenly this seems like a South Park “It” advertisement….
But you love us?
My guess? One of the heartbeat sensors also gathers sweat and analyzes it for chemical makeup
I’m surprised it took them more than 5 minutes to file…
And again — for major Constitutional questions like this, there really should be a fast lane to the Supremes. Everyone knows it will end up there anyway, get on with it (but think of the billable hours say the lawyers!)
The 14th Amendment does need to be clarified for sure as it was part of Reconstruction and not ‘come pop out a baby on our soil’.
Even at that, great – the kid is a U.S. citizen (and will have to pay U.S. taxes the rest of his life no matter where he is), but you parents don’t get to stay.
I don’t see a problem with this. Go on and sue, and let it work its way to the SC.
I don’t have a problem with them suing (again, I would expect it — and it is the right thing to do to get clarification). It is just that no one is going to accept a lower court ruling and this is a clear question on the Constitution as written — not something like “Officer Johnny gave the runaround so he could call in a
portable warrant bypassK-9 unit”… there’s zero question the Supremes are going to have to rule on it and that it is a disagreement between the Executive Branch and at least some of the States. So just fast track it already and earn your salaries, Nazgul.Yep, get it to the Supremes before the next Dem has a chance to load the Court with lawmakers.
I’m sure Roberts is thinking “I don’t need this shit”. It’s actually a good question, from a purely technical/jurisprudential angle. But it’s a complete no-win scenario for the Court. Probably the smart thing to do is say “The Constitution doesn’t mandate citizenship status of people born to parents who are here illegally/temporarily/whatever. Up to Congress.” And pass that hot potato.
That’s why they get paid the bucks they’re being paid, to make difficult non-decisions.
Not sure I follow this part. If that’s true why bother because there is no way you’ll get an amendment out of this.
The Court could easily find for the plaintiffs on the grounds this exceeds Presidential authority, but defining/limiting birthright citizenship is within Congressional authority (within limits of course – children of citizens, etc.).
Look at it this way – this is a no-lose deal for immigration restrictionists. The current “rule”/practice is as broad as it can get. Any change will be restrictive. This puts the question, which somebody had to do and Allah knows Congress doesn’t have the balls. If the Court says “total victory the plaintiffs, anybody whose mother has a toe on US soil when they pop out is a citizen per the Constitution”, well, that’s pretty much what we have now.
Oh, plaintiffs. I thought he meant defendants. I always mix those up.
more fun for you: petitioner v. respondent
Gizmodo is on fire.
Trump’s New Energy Policy Kills Electric Vehicle Credits, Paves Way for Old Lightbulbs and High-Flow Toilets
The new order also eliminated the American Climate Corps. Established in 2023, the American Climate Corps was an interagency venture that would train young people in climate and energy related jobs that would help America. It didn’t quite get off the ground, but the dream was to have young people help install solar panels, work with the U.S. Forest Service combat wildfires, and other similar tasks.
It’s gone now, killed in its crib.
Comments are also gold!
As we fire up AI data centers, I don’t think grandma’s house with the 60w incandescent is straining the grid.
It’s a little depressing how little these fags understand about energy and economics.
But the feels!
As with other things — I’d rather he got legislation cancelling the
Green New Deal“Inflation Reduction Act” than bypassing Congress like this. Ah well. That will take some time and given Congress operating on a glacial pace…
pen and phone …
Fair point, but the way Congress writes laws these days, a lot of stuff done in the name of Inflation Reduction Act probably wasn’t spelled out in the actual law.

Already off to a bad start.

Train callow youths to make the weather better?

Every state in the union has a university with an engineering department.
that would help America.
Assumes facts not in evidence.
In other words, how do you say I am a fascist without saying I am a fascist.
Biden Youth indeed. Would they have gotten to wear pioneer scarves too?
Just how far into crazyland have we gone?
And people say I am nuts for calling it a scam.
Today at work was craze-mazing. I handled roughly twice the service tickets as I normally do. Mostly updating people’s bios and some programmatic web pages. We got a memo from our interim head honcho that was all about implementing DJT’s executive orders (mainly – stopping DEI programs, hiring freeze, bringing Feds back to the office, and the 90-day foreign aid pause).
I’m curious to see what the next 6 months brings.
Reportedly a Waffle House in Gulf Shores, AL has closed due to weather
😲
So riots, fires, gang violence, Super Bowl wins, hurricanes and tornadoes they stay open. A bit of snow and they close down? Pussies.
Heh. My mom is down there right now. She is saying the weather reminds her of Eastern Washington in the late sixties, when they got 14 feet of snow.

That’s just wrong.
Just 3 weeks ago I was sweating my balls off there. Quite the turnaround.
Ill be damned,
Daughter: Can you help me with my math homework? How do I solve this problem?
Me: Here are the steps.
Daughter: That’s not how they taught us.
Me: They taught you wrong. Do you want my help or not?
Oh I had many a talks with kids’ teachers just over that shit. Worst was kid coming home telling me “Teacher said not to ask parents because they wouldn’t understand”. I got to gather all that ‘teenage angst that was shoved down and told, it will be over in a few years, not worth it’ that never came out when I was a teen, to all be expelled in that instance at that one teacher.
“If your teacher ever asserts that the parent will not understand – or for whatever reason not to bring something to your parents – IMMEDIATELY bring it to your parents”
It’s odd for the IHS to come out like that:
“IHS is rooted in the classical liberal tradition and promotes a freer, more humane, and open society by connecting and supporting talented graduate students, scholars, and other intellectuals who are driving progress in the critical conversations shaping the 21st century.”
They definitely have a classical liberal/libertarian philosophy. I assume they’ve made a choice similar to Cato: “we must distance ourselves from Trump to maintain credibility.”
Integrated Heat Spreaders have become sentient.
Is this part of the AI push by CPU manufacturers?
The International Horticultural Society said that?
You would think that the Indian Health Service had bigger fish to fry.
It is our well-researched and peer-reviewed assertion that Donald Trump is icky.
Fuck yes.

I hope it’s accurate.
Speaking of woodchippers, it looks like Ross is gonna get a clemency real soon. I had not yet heard about T Dog taking us out of the WHO l, but if he did, that is absolutely fantastic. He is rocking the start of The Trump Show Season 5. I’m really tuning in to see what happens next.

Yes. Thank you, Rand.

I wonder if the full pardon is accurate.
Wow.
(Hi, Preet!)
It makes me happy that TwiX is blowing up with happiness.
Yes – it comes from DJT hisself
I’ll be waiting for some of the unbelievers to say they regret not voting for two scoops when they had the chance.
Hope Trump can keep this up for a while. That’s great news.
Hot classy babes to celebrate Ross’ freedom.

Titty Tuesday.
PS: I said shortly after the election that I would reserve judgement of Trump until we see if he pardons Ross. I’m very happy to be pleasantly surprised.
Wow.

New Donald is much better than the 2016 version so far.
Now do Snowden.
How about Assange? Do we have anything to do with him?
Notice there is no neat instant Wikipedia update which to me confirms wiki was getting updated via the old WH admin
J6ers and followed through with his promise to libertarians. A good way to start no doubt.
Yep. I wonder if Angela will get a few apologies?
Not from Chase Oliver.
Who?
Ha! Best retort ever.
😡
All the Permit classes are full up until Feb 22. So I can’t file until after that.
I hate this unconstitutional shit.
*hops aboard UCS’s hate train*
*Hits the whistle*
Yes, I could have scheduled sooner, but I shouldn’t have to do so.
You know what would be hilarious? If Trump ordered all executive depts and agencies to have Truth Social handles and actually use it
I don’t watch it but some of you might dig the special guest:
https://x.com/TRHLofficial/status/1881866536170017236
Who’s the Senator have for guests? I don’t recognize them.
Yeah he’s wrong about birthplace citizenship: we don’t need generations of second class people living in ghettos. Other than that, let’s go Brandon!
Who are these second class people?
Second and third generations of people born in America with no ties to their grandparents’ homeland but still not citizens of the country they grew up in, like the slums of France. That’s what getting rid of birthright citizenship would cause. Trump is wrong on this one. The people who argued for and against the 14th Amendment both agreed that it meant birthright citizenship. If you want to change that then you need to amend the constitution.
Denver, Quoth the EO:
A legal permant resident produces a citizen child under the text of the order. It’s the people here temporarily or illegally who do not get such benefits.
So I’m not a lawyer and am also not a fan of a massive increase of immigration. But, I suggest that to create a permanent population of people who are not citizens, but also have no ties to anywhere else, is bad policy, to say nothing of the ethics or constitutional questions.
