That Glibcruise Thing That Had Happened

by | Jan 30, 2025 | Travel | 125 comments

Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale
a tale of a fateful trip,
that started from this tropic port,
aboard this giant ship.
The mate was a mighty sailin’ man,
the Skipper brave and sure,
ten passengers set sail that day,
for a seven day tour,
a seven day tour.

Nearly a dozen Glibs embarked from Fort Liquourdale for a whirlwind Caribbean cruise, all the way back in mid-October. We had libertarianness aplenty, in that we mostly did our own things and occasionally met up for food, gambling, or drinking. I – being me – only got off the ship once. I had a wonderful time on the poop deck (aka in the aft) and “woo-hooing” at planes in St. Maarten. In other words, the ideal vacation. Perhaps some of our other Glibcruisers will share their thoughts & feelings & photos in the comments. Here’s a gallery of some of mine and Shpip’s pics.

    IT’S WHIMSICAL!

    • UnCivilServant

Your girlfriend is still too tiny.

  2. UnCivilServant

Why can I only identify four in the group picture?

    • Not Adahn

      OpSec.

    • Ted S.

      From left to right:

Tulpa, Tulpa, Tulpa, Tulpa, Tulpa, Tulpa, Tulpa, Tulpa, and Tulpa.

      Did I miss anybody?

      • Nephilium

        Yes. The tenth Tulpa.

    • Nephilium

Well, three aren’t active commenters on the site.

  3. Tundra

Neph comes out hot with the fez, while Nick dazzles with Liberace’s smoking jacket.

    Nice pics, KK!

    • Nephilium

The photo doesn’t do the jacket justice.

      • Tundra

        Or Nick, for that matter.

      • pistoffnick (370HSSV)

The jacket pairs really well with the dirty crocs…

  4. Pat

Perhaps weirdly, I never think of what the actual human beings in my online communities look like, and then when I put a face to the name it’s like an avatar change.

    • UnCivilServant

I chose this avatar because another potato wouldn’t stand out.

    • pistoffnick (370HSSV)

I do somewhat resemble a hippo.

    • Drake

I was told that you should never meet your heroes.

      • Jarflax

I only hero worship people long dead. I am safe.

    • Suthenboy

Seeing photos does put a human face on y’all. It also makes me think that when in public I may hate people in general but some of those regular people faces in the crowd are actually smart, likable maybe extraordinary people and you never can know who they are just by looking at them.

      • Tres Cool

You just can’t judge a book by its cover. Well, other than JAWS.

      • Bobarian LMD

Autocorrect changed your title from JUGS to JAWS.

    • Gustave Lytton

Wait, are you saying that you don’t walk around with a gun to your head?

      • Certified Public Asshat

Seeing real Pat would throw me for a loop.

      • Tundra

I hadn’t, but these hearings are making me consider it.

    • R.J.

You see me everyday. I let my daughter take that avatar picture a few years ago.

    • R C Dean

      Same here, Pat.

  5. DEG

    I like the pictures.

  6. Sean

    Fun.

    • EvilSheldon

It was an amazingly good time.

  7. Fourscore

Closest thing to a cruise was crossing the Atlantic three times with 700 of my newest friends. I had a smoking jacket but certainly not like Nick’s. My new friends and I all had the same tailor who was partial to green.

Thanks KK, enjoy the next trip to Iceland

    • Sensei

My uncle was in VN as a Seabee.

The family joke with him was that for his entire enlistment in the Navy he never once actually sailed on a single boat. Airplanes only.

  8. pistoffnick (370HSSV)

    • pistoffnick (370HSSV)

Fist night in Ft Liquordale, our Uber driver brought us to 509 NE XX Street instead of 509 SE XX Street.

      • pistoffnick (370HSSV)

509 SE XX Street was where our AirBnB was.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Fist night? I’m not sure I want to know.

      • Bobarian LMD

Anywhere on XX Street is gonna be lit, though.

But not as lit as XXX Street.

    • Nephilium

The girlfriend and I did two on board “excursions”, one being a cocktail making class (which I recommend, it was done well) the other being a pizza making class. My only complaint about the pizza making class was all of the information about it said that we couldn’t take our leftovers with us. This was not the case, and they did allow leftovers to be taken, which I learned AFTER working my way through all but one slice of my pizza.

  9. Gustave Lytton

From ded ded thred, re: pulling out of the UN entirely. That’s what the USSR did in 1950, as a result Korea was (and still is) conducted under UN approval and imprimatur. The fuckery done without a veto (or threat of veto) by the US is unlimited. The solution to the UN is to cut it to the bone, skinsuit, and remove any power from it. If 3rd world shitholes want to send their diplomats to give speeches on dead microphones with the lights off and heat turned down, go for it.

Military flights: use the usual air show excuse. They need the flight hours and it’s practice for EPW (enemy prisoner of war) operations.

    • Ed Wuncler

Good! Their lies and bullshit need to be called out.

      • juris imprudent

Don’t believe your lyin’ eyes, listen to what I tell you!!!

      • Gustave Lytton

Sanders is going to stroke out.

      • The Other Kevin

At the DNC, Bernie made a speech about the evil billionaires (no longer millionaires because he is one), and was immediately followed by Pritzker, who bragged about being a “real billionaire”. Bernie’s over.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

If you are going to go down, go down swinging.

      • Ed Wuncler

Sanders is a hypocritical piece of shit. He’s that asshole who would impose a system where everyone is equally poor or struggling while owning two or three dachas.

When I was college, I noticed that most rabid socialists on campus where the upper-class students. It was partially guilt about coming from so much money and their elitist beliefs about the lower classes and workers. But oddly enough while they all rant and raved about the wealthy they themselves took full advantage of their family’s money nor did they ever give it up.

      • Jarflax

themselves took full advantage of their family’s money nor did they ever give it up.

They want the appearance of virtue without sacrifice, or at least with other people making the sacrifices.

      • rhywun

I noticed that most rabid socialists on campus where the upper-class students.

Not surprising, since they have the most free time to dream up their fantasy nonsense and go out activisming.

    • juris imprudent

Damn, Graham isn’t there (not on the committee) to be called out.

    • R C Dean

Nice. Fucks are not being given. They finally learned playing nice won’t change a single vote. Trump seems to have decided the way to play the game with the agencies is to just go at them hard, and his nominees are doing the same with the Senate.

Here’s hoping the deal to recess the House so Trump can do recess appointments holds if needed. Doing it after one of his nominees is voted down, and appointing them anyway, would be just the fuck-you the Senate needs.

Ermagerd, Trump has too much power!!! No, the Presidency has too much power. Just the way you set it up, you feckin’ tools.

  10. The Late P Brooks

What if they used cruise ships as temporary housing for burned out Californians?

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Turn it into a reality show. The reconstruction will pay for itself.

      • juris imprudent

Voted off the ship and tied to an anchor? That just might work!

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

The Real Housewives of the Queen Mary.

    • Sean

They’ll never get the smell out. >.>

  11. Gender Traitor

Looks as if a great time was had by all! ***SIGH!!!*** I’ve never been on a cruise, and I don’t see it happening within the foreseeable future, but maybe some day. Of course, it would be better if the route was in/through a latitude a little less hazardous to my skin’s sun sensitivity. Maybe a Mississippi River riverboat cruise or the Great Lakes?

    • Nephilium

When I last looked, the riverboat cruises were shockingly expensive. Personally, I would rather drive around the Great Lakes than be on a cruise through them, especially since they would probably frown upon walleye/perch fishing from the boat.

    • juris imprudent

Isn’t the next one going to Iceland? That isn’t a conducive environment?

      • EvilSheldon

But there is a paid-up participant looking for a roomie…

  12. Mojeaux

We have returned from the attorney’s office. We found out a thing we didn’t know, which changes the calculus a little bit, but DOCUMENTS will be drafted and THINGS will be made clear. Unfortunately, this means I have to keep my tone businesslike and my face blank. I can do businesslike tone. Blank face, now. That’s a different kettle of fish.

    • Not Adahn

According to my Encyclopedia Brown books, it helps to keep ice cubes in your mouth.

      • ron73440

I remember that one, it was a disgusting drink challenge and Bugsy cheated with ice cubes.

Good luck Mo, I never was good at hiding my facial expressions.

      • UnCivilServant

I have so many nitpicks with that twerp.

    • Bobarian LMD

      Resting Blank Face?

      • Mojeaux

        Dead-ass stare.

  13. Certified Public Asshat

A real Glib cruise would not be 50/50 men and women.

    • Bobarian LMD

Today is your turn in the barrel.

    • Tundra

It was out almost immediately last night. Crazy, isn’t it

    • Raven Nation

The WSJ link you posted this morning has a different angle but shows the collision.

      • Sensei

Thanks. I generally don’t watch videos when I’m using data on the go so I missed it.

  14. LCDR_Fish

I think OBE discussed this issue a little while back.

    https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/air-traffic-control-and-the-dei-debate/

Quote is actually from a Washington Times article.

From 1989 to 2013, the Collegiate Training Initiative program was a pipeline to a career in air traffic control. The program aimed to ensure future air traffic controllers had the skills and knowledge necessary to carry out the job. More than ten years ago, the Obama Administration scrapped 1000 qualified candidates. The administration’s justification was that the pool of applicants was not diverse enough, so they would be purged from consideration. Instead of hiring candidates with the most competency, individuals were elevated for hiring consideration based on their race…I, along with Mountain States Legal Foundation, am litigating a class action lawsuit on behalf of more than 900 prospective air traffic controllers who studied, took the pre-employment exam, and passed the test with flying colors but were dismissed because of their skin color. Our lawsuit seeks justice for all air traffic control candidates who chose this career, dedicated their lives and education to it, and were summarily denied a job for no reason other than the color of their skin. In a system with only 14,000 air traffic controllers, purging a thousand of the next generation’s best and brightest was irresponsible and unsustainable.

    • Suthenboy

It was one of the most transparent deliberate and calculated attacks on meritocracy at the cost of lives that I am aware of. It was one of those jaw dropping examples where everyone thought ‘that cant be allowed to happen. Someone responsible will stop it, surely’ and then nothing else happened.
It was one of the most irresponsible, evil things that Obama did and that is saying a lot. There should be more than a civil suit, there should be prosecutions. Also, fuck everyone that voted for that evil shitbird. It was always obvious as hell what he is.

    • Ownbestenemy

      Yep. Ongoing lawsuit regarding this.

Not only that, word got out and ‘key words’ were shared to get in regardless of skill.

    • rhywun

I was not aware of that particular bit of nastiness. My god what a POS.

  15. Not Adahn

Apparently the hexagrammaton was uttered in Kash Patel’s confirmation hearing.

  16. JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

    So you people do exist.

    • Nephilium

No I don’t. I’m just a figment of your imagination.

    • slumbrew

You can’t fool me – they cease to exist when I close my eyes, just like everything else.

  17. Atreides

    Awesome, KK!
So cool to finally see some pics from the reconnaissance mission for the future Glibertopia.

And, nice to see Shpip looking hip on ship.

    • Tundra

Having met quite a number of Glibs in the real world I can say that they are without a doubt some of the best people I know.

      Just weird.

      Especially Jimbo.

      • DEG

Having met quite a number of Glibs in the real world I can say that they are without a doubt some of the best people I know.

        Yes.

        Just weird.

It all depends on how you define weird.

      • ron73440

        Hell, I know I’m weird.

        I’m OK with that.

      • Tundra

        I won’t be around people who aren’t.

  18. juris imprudent

So when the mountain kills someone, it will be held legally responsible, right?

A mountain in New Zealand considered an ancestor by Indigenous people was recognized as a legal person on Thursday after a new law granted it all the rights and responsibilities of a human being.

No, you dumbshit Maori – you don’t come from the mountain. You got to those islands on boats.

    • Drake

It will probably kill itself when it gets the property tax bill.

      • Suthenboy

        This.

    • UnCivilServant

      Was HMS Waterloo taken?

    • rhywun

At least it isn’t “Liberty”. No one would fall for that.

  19. Sensei

    On topic?

Braham man owes $47K for flu treatment on Norwegian cruise ship

In a letter, Norwegian told Masterman that its pricing is “closely comparable to other cruise lines and is what we believe to be fair and reasonable….”

When reached via email on Wednesday, a spokesperson for Norwegian said the cruise line is looking into whether the charges are typical for flu treatment.

    https://www.fox9.com/news/braham-man-47k-flu-norwegian-cruise-ship

Bonus is that he actually bought the medical insurance from the cruise line.

    • UnCivilServant

“It wasn’t even Good chicken soup!”

    • Jarflax

      That’s some expensive bed rest.

  20. The Other Kevin

I made the mistake of opening social media today. Within 30 seconds I saw a meme on Instagram, posted by a good friend, showing Hitler rounding people up in camps and asking what we were allowing “this POS” to do.

On FB, my wife’s cousin posted a meme about “If you didn’t want teachers to stand in the way of ICE you shouldn’t have trained them to take a bullet for their students.”

    These people are broken.

    • Nephilium

I don’t care if the teachers stand in the way of ICE, and I’ll have zero sympathy when they get an obstruction charge.

      • The Other Kevin

The entire premise is wrong. ICE isn’t going into schools. There was one incident in which the Secret Service visited a school as part of an investigation. But never let the facts get in the way of a leftist narrative.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

That is ass-backwards. Those idiots would run away screaming from a bullet, we haven’t taught them anything.

    • UnCivilServant

I’d expect most teachers to use the students as human shields

      • Sean

        Well, not the skinny ones…

    • R C Dean

I thought teachers were taught a variation on the standard “Run Away, Hide, Fight” protocol. I don’t recall their training to include anything about being a bullet sponge.

    • R.J.

How do people stay alive with that level of fat?

      • kinnath

        They don’t. They die young.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Even if I wanted to bang that I don’t think my dick would reach. Just pick a fat fold I guess?

      • Nephilium

I had a friend who was that level of obese, he married a woman of similar build. Their joke was that they were proof that circles could meet in more than one point at a time.

    • Tres Cool

Stop turning me on when I’m at work!

    • LCDR_Fish

Looks like the “rapper” suing Lyft because she couldn’t fit in the car.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Getting worked up about that says more about them than her. Fuck those douchebags.

    • Ed Wuncler

One of the biggest tricks that the Left has ever performed was that they were huge advocates of civil liberties. Shit I believed it for a long time till the Obama Administration. Obama was murder droning with impunity and continuing a lot of Bush’s shit and most of my liberal friends stayed silent or defended his civil liberty violations. And then the final black pill came when I found out about the Biden Administration’s forcing social media to stifle opinions that went against their views. And most of Left friends were cheering that shit on. I came to the conclusion that the Left would rip apart our civil liberties if it helped usher in their utopia.

      • Sensei

Let’s not forget they also claimed to be “anti-war” too.

      • The Other Kevin

And as we’ve seen from the RFK hearings, they just love themselves some Big Pharma.

      • Nephilium

The ACLU never even needed to be skinsuited.

      • rhywun

I came to the conclusion that the Left would rip apart our civil liberties if it helped usher in their utopia.

Hell, they’d put a bullet in your head.

See: anywhere their ideology is taken to its logical end.

    • Not Adahn

      They did the meme!

Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) pounced on the moment,

Ray of sunshine (other than the failed business) and it’s in the NYT.

The total operation has cost about $30,000, according to the bank. Until recently, Local Coho salmon went for $17.99 a pound on the Fresh Direct website, making the approximate market value of the donation more than $700,000.

A Fish Farm Offered 40,000 Pounds of Salmon for Free. There Was a Catch.

Im going to drive my Sisters moving van in OKC. She is leaving a long damaged marriage for a new life. But it gonna be cold for Bob, yikes!

    • R.J.

I would like a public tarring and feathering, followed by a ride out of DC on a log.

    • R C Dean

      Don’t you mean underpersynned?
