That’s my view. Carter was in many ways the tail of the 70’s dog and fitting right in line with Ford and Nixon’s crappy domestic policies.

My argument for alternatives to Worst In 50 years (which lets you skip Johnson and Nixon):
Carter- yes, he was domestically inept, and besides tanking the economy, he permanently damaged education by putting it even more firmly in the hands of the federal government. But on top of that, by both stupid action and selective inaction, he is largely responsible for the mess that the Middle East is in today.
Reagan- ramped up the WoD to a level that shredded the constitution in unprecedented ways, which put shiny new jackboots on cops and legalized government robbery (“asset forfeiture”). And ran up the size/scope of government and the national debt to insane levels.
W- Department of Homeland Security, completing the shredding of the constitution. And stupid war-mongering, adopting the idiotic Pottery Barn model of the addled Colin Powell which kept us in Iraq and (especially) Afghanistan for generations.
