¡Martes por la tarde, enlaces mexicanos!

I can tell from my social media feed it must be close to Valentines Day. All the ads are geared towards silly gifts I couldn’t possibly tell someone I might actually wa—oh shit Rolex homages that make fun of Rolex? Okay that’s funny as hell.

I am disappointed they don’t make a Milgauss parody, but I sent my daughter a link to the 39mm white dial Exploder. She will likely pass it along at her convenience.

¡enlaces!

Well, what the hell else are they supposed to do? That’s pretty much what half the country voted for.

Am I misremembering something here? Didn’t Rand Paul no shit filibuster just to get a response from Team Obama to his question whether or not surveillance drones were being used over US airspace after Anwar Al Alawki was killed via drone strike in Yemen? Mild outrage, the hell with it.

Can’t wait to see how USAID spins their next election.

I like how this stuff is decided. “TARIFFS ON STEEL.” “What about other materials, like aluminum?” “OKAY , TARIFFS ON ALUMINUM TOO.”

What drove me up the wall about Arab culture, was how imprecise everything is. Did 50 die in a bus crash, or did 51 die in a bus crash? Its not that big a jump but why are both articles on the homepage next to each other?

Lets go with a classic today. Enjoy your Tuesday!

So, are they really grassroots groups if the US freezing foreign aid guts them?

It’s all fun and games with you guys until the crops don’t get picked or your hotel room doesn’t get cleaned.

        Then what?!

“Migrants stranded in Mexico try to restart life after Trump eliminates legal pathway to US”

Good news is you have a head start on the language.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

“Legal pathway”. Yeah, sure, go with that.

    • rhywun

      Lyndon B.’s ears perk up.

  2. Jarflax

Hey if you write retitle a new article every time you find another body you get more clicks.

    • mexican sharpshooter

Okay, but why put both links next to each other?

      • Jarflax

Attention spans are now so short that even side by side people will click both?

      • mexican sharpshooter

Well it triggered my autism. REEEEEEEEEE

      • Pope Jimbo

Maybe it is some kind of Schrödinger’s Editor situation? You don’t know what story is real until you click on one?

  3. SDF-7

Mild outrage, the hell with it.

As we’ve commented before — the inculcation of the “You have no privacy, deal with it!” society proceeds apace.

    • mexican sharpshooter

      Indeed

    • rhywun

I’m of both minds on that.

Outrage, sure. Then reality sets in.

  4. The Late P Brooks

    “grassroots groups”

    Sure, CNN.

  5. SDF-7

Can’t wait to see how USAID spins their next election.

Yes, I now have this wacky hope / fantasy that the US government is done screwing with other countries elections for at least a while.

Probably overly optimistic… but tearing down USAID looks like it helped. Firing most of the CIA would be a great next step.

    • R.J.

      Patience, young Jedi.

Across Latin America, grassroots organizations that assist migrants have been gutted, the already perilous trek northward has become more confusing and the future of programs to root out the violence, poverty and human rights abuses that has driven historic levels of migration in recent years are hanging by a thread.

Well, if they’re really “grassroots,” they won’t need Yanqui dollars to keep operating.

Of course, my heart goes out to the QUILTBAG kids in the leftist paradise of Venezuela — just not enough to get taxed to “help” them.

    • Jarflax

There are no suffering LGBTQ kids in Venezuela, only capitalism oppresses them. In socialism they get unicorns and cookies!

    • Gustave Lytton

Wait, I thought ngos encouraging and assisting migration and illegal entry was just a made up right wing fantasy?

    • rhywun

Maybe Latin Americans should be asking themselves why they need so many “grassroots organizations” to assist escapees from their wonderful lands?

  7. Rat on a train

supporters say it helped bring order to the border and reduced illegal crossings
Just like how fewer cars were broken into when people stopped locking them in San Francisco.

    • R C Dean

Admitting that you were organizing hundreds of thousands of illegals in Mexico may not be the image they want.

Of course, the reduced illegal crossings is a function of the Biden policy of passing out refugee visas at the border on demand.

      • Gustave Lytton

Or passing out via an app in advance and illegals could fly right in.

  8. SDF-7

I like how this stuff is decided

I just like all the bloody whining on gaming / computer hardware channels about graphics card price increases (which are already ludicrous) and whatnot… “Oh noes… evil tariffs are making goods more expensive!”

I’ve said it before and I still hold to it — I’m perfectly fine with massive tariffs to break US industry reliance on slave labor. Suck it up, buttercups. Given that — I’m also fine with relatively minor ones to get countries to play ball and stop working to subvert our border (granted, with the help of at least half of our government until we find and fire them / cut off the funds). Globalism and the resulting wannabe Techno-Elite Ruling Class has soured me on completely free trade, sorry.

    • cavalier973

“Our industries are overburdened with taxes and regulations. In order to salve this problem, we need to increase taxes on furriners.

We had jobs and money back when we had tariffs! Free trade destroys jobs! What do you mean, my factory still went out of business because of domestic taxes and heavy regulation???”

      • R C Dean

Perhaps the cheap imports are masking the burden of taxes and regulations to many voters? Just as they have masked the devaluation of the dollar?

Its not that big a jump but why are both articles on the homepage next to each other?

Why am I now picturing the reporter drawing a big combat knife and saying “Give me a moment…. :off-camera aaaargh: Ok, now definitely 51. Happy?”

  11. The Late P Brooks

“Our nation requires steel and aluminium to be made in America, not in foreign lands,” he added.

Do we even have bauxite deposits?

I recall seeing something quite a while ago which said most “Canadian” aluminum was re-labeled shipments from other counties.

    • SDF-7

Yup. Just don’t hardly use them (surprise surprise surprise….)

    • mexican sharpshooter

There is one in northern AZ, just outside the Navajo reservation, if I am not mistaken.

  12. Shpip

A bus in Guatemala City fell from a highway, crashing through a railing, and plunging into a polluted ravine, killing more than 50 people.

Left unanswered was the most important question: was the bus headed north? Is this part of Trump’s new plan to intercept our much-needed diversity before it ever gets to the Rio Grande?

  13. The Late P Brooks

Just don’t hardly use them (surprise surprise surprise….)

It’s almost as if there has been a decades-long concerted effort to destroy the industrial base.

  14. Shpip

    Gee, that’s a shame

In September of 2021, the National School Boards Association sent a shameful letter to part-time President Joe Biden demanding that aggressive parental criticism of local school boards be coded as threats and treated as criminal behavior.

Last week, in a move that appears to have made no headlines, Attorney General Pam Bondi rescinded Garland’s memorandum on schools.

  15. The Late P Brooks

    Tragic, crippling blow

Two senior leaders at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau announced their resignations the day after acting Director Russell Vought instructed all staff to cease working.

In separate memos sent early Tuesday, Lorelei Salas, supervision director for the agency, and Eric Halperin, enforcement director, said they could no longer serve in their respective roles after Vought’s mandate, according to emails obtained by CNBC.

“The Bureau has been instructed to stand down,” Salas said. “I do not believe it is appropriate, nor lawful, to stop all supervisory activities and examinations, and I cannot longer serve as the Supervision Director.”

“I don’t believe in these conditions I can effectively serve in my role, which is protecting American consumers,” Halperin said. “Today I made the difficult decision to resign.”

    The economy will collapse.

    • Unreconstructed

My favorite Facebook proggy tagged me on an article that started with “Trump shut down the CFPB”. I got that far and responded “Good”. Shortly thereafter, one of his fellow travelers asked me if I was OK with corruption. I went back and read more, and there was a “warning” that Musk wanted the CFPB shut down because it was investigating him. I made a lengthier response about how the CFPB is a corruptocrat’s dream, with no accountability to the people or their representatives, and that investigations of Musk started after he began bucking the Dem party line. At that point the trolls came out of the woodwork, and I’ve abandoned the thread to keep my blood pressure in check. I don’t see how anyone can support things like the CFPB and claim to support democracy.

      • Gender Traitor

But it “protects consumers”! It’s right there in the name!/sarc 🙄(<–financial institution employee)

      • R.J.

That’s just it. They support democracy, not a system of checks and balances. We do not live in a democracy. That is the flaw in your conversations.

      • Jarflax

Yes, detailed reporting requirements imposed by fiat on mom and pop LLCs, with rules specifically exempting companies with large revenues, just scream consumer protection don’t they?

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

They support “Our Democracy”. That’s something different.

  16. Derpetologist

Tariffs are kind of like sanctions except that tariffs are easier to implement and tend to foster rather than hinder negotiation.

Both sides can offer de-escalation without losing face, unlike with sanctions.

  17. ron73440

For the bus crash, both titles are accurate.

Guatemala bus crash kills more than 50 people

At least 51 people killed in Guatemala bus crash

At least 51 is more than 50.

    Great tune also.

    • R.J.

“Approximately 50 People Killed in Bus Crash”

      There. I fixed it.

      • SDF-7

“Today from our quantum physics reporter — ’50 people may have been killed in a bus crash… if someone happened to observe it'”

      • Jarflax

As long as no one opens the door they exist in superposition?

    • SDF-7

There are certainly kernels of truth both in that statement and in DOGE’s intended focus…. (San Fran Nan would be interesting, except I thought Congress enshrined their insider trading into law).

      • The Other Kevin

Congress is probably protected. But apparently the former head of USAID was paid $180k a year but was worth $20-30 million. I think it’s a reference to her. But Fauci is another one.

      • Grummun

        But Fauci is another one

I would love to see how many FDA, NIH, NIAID execs are making money on patents they license to pharma.

      • The Other Kevin

@Grumman, I have been looking forward to that. Rand Paul got Fauci to admit the total amount under oath, but he refused to say how much individuals received. I’d expect that to come out pretty quick if Kennedy is confirmed.

  18. Suthenboy

How many people in CA are homeless, broken and lost? Why are people in NC still living in tents?
The left is running on giving money to invaders and stop Trump from revealing and stopping waste fraud and corruption?

The midterms are going to be a blue wave like we have never seen before. Yes Sir.

    • rhywun

How many people in CA are homeless, broken and lost?

Before or after the wildfires? Cuz there were an awful lot before.

    • SDF-7

As if they’d give one single solitary rodent’s posterior about said promise if they felt they needed to start offing citizens on US soil.

    • mexican sharpshooter

      Thank you

  19. The Late P Brooks

    But it “protects consumers”!

In the article there is an outlandish claim about the vast sums the CFPB has “returned” to consumers. As I recall, they assess fines and order them to be paid to nonprofit activist organizations. The actual victims don’t see a nickel of restitution.

    • Suthenboy

I have to wonder….which non-profit activist organizations? Who could it be?
Was there an increase in settlements prior to the summer of peace? I mean, pallets of bricks dont just pay for and deliver themselves.
*Has anyone ever looked at who did pay for and deliver those pallets of bricks? There was a lot of talk about it but it still remains unsaid who did that.

      • R.J.

Somebody named “Marge Toros” or something paid for them. I think.

  20. The Late P Brooks

That should have read ALLEGED victims.

    • Suthenboy

Now that the preference cascade has started I think we will be seeing more of that.

    • R C Dean

Just remember: Trump can’t order states, universities, or high schools to do anything. All he can say is “fine, you want to do X, do it without federal money”.

So much for taking a principled, moral stand defending the oppressed, or whatever their press releases used to say.

      • Rat on a train

“We’ll defend you to the last dollar.”

      • Pope Jimbo

The Minnesoda High School League is standing with the poor oppressed trans kids still.

They have hedged their bets a bit by saying that they legally have to because of the various human rights laws in Minnesoda.

Once the lucre gets shut off, it will be interesting to see just how principled they are.

      • Pope Jimbo

If Minnesoda does stand strong in defense of trans kids playin sports, I’m gonna be so pissed.

Why not stand tall and keep our drinking age at 19? Why cave on that!!!

I remember when Liz Dole told the states that if they didn’t raise the drinking age to 21, there would be no hiway funds for them. All the states caved.

There were a lot of kids my age who were really interested in politics at the time because they were worried about if they’d be grandfathered in or not.

One of my buddies had a birthday that was a day after the cutoff, so all of us could drink at 19 but he had to wait until he was 21.

  21. The Late P Brooks

    Don’t forget the boilerplate

Elon Musk on Tuesday defended his “Department of Government Efficiency” against critics, saying the unaccountable cost-slashing task force represents the will of American voters who elected President Donald Trump.

“That’s what democracy is all about,” said Musk, who contributed more than $250 million to getting Trump elected. Musk, with one of his young sons in tow, stood alongside Trump in the Oval Office during the press event.

Musk — the world’s richest man and the leader of Tesla, SpaceX and X — also pushed back on concerns about whether his work in government creates conflicts of interest, saying he is trying to be as transparent as possible.

    You forgot un-elected.

    • R.J.

Your unelected staff is cutting my unelected staff! How dare you!

    • Suthenboy

What is funny about it is Musk is by my estimation telling the truth. It does look a bit funny with him by the president during this press conference. I think neither one cant see that.

  22. The Late P Brooks

The slash-and-burn tactics being carried out by a controversial group of staffers have stoked outrage and panic from critics and spurred multiple lawsuits.

Panic. Lots of panic. Possibly some hysteria.

    • The Other Kevin

A majority of people seem to have noticed that nothing changed during those “government shutdowns”, aside from some people not getting paychecks.

      • R C Dean

You mean, aside from some people having their paychecks delayed a few days or weeks.

      • The Other Kevin

        I stand corrected.

      • R C Dean

The next government shutdown is going to be epic. Somehow, I don’t think “We’ll show you, Trump! We’ll protest your program of *checks notes* getting rid of nonessential government workers by putting nonessential government workers on leave!” is going to send the White House into a panic so they sign whatever continuing resolution Congress burps up.

      • Gustave Lytton

Not giving paychecks to fed gov employees who didn’t work and leaving open naturally open federal property rather than maliciously closing it would be a nice change.

      • Ted S.

After the covid lockdowns I have zero sympathy for govsec workers not getting paid during a shutdown and not being made whole after it.

      • ron73440

After the covid lockdowns I have zero sympathy for govsec workers not getting paid during a shutdown and not being made whole after it.

Hell, I felt that way before the COVID stupidity.

  23. Necron 99

I too saw the ad for the Rol-Mex, I was also intrigued. The Pepsi diver GMT looks cool.

    • Sensei

Some brief searches with that Seiko movement suggests they are fairly priced.

I like the vintage Pepsi GMT. I expect Rolex will smack them.

They are just a bit too expensive for me to immediately click “buy”.

  24. Raven Nation

I’d have preferred they both lost but I think, on balance, I’m slightly happier that RM beat Man City.

    • Ted S.

      They came back to win?

After Man City not getting smacked down for violating the Financial Fair Play rules, I want to see them wind up like turn-of-the-century Leeds.

      • Raven Nation

        86′ and 90+2

      • Raven Nation

I didn’t think a decision had been made on FFP?

      • Ted S.

Then what was it that got them the ban the first time that got overturned because somebody didn’t want to piss off the hipster fans of EPL teams?

      • rhywun

Pay stream means that tournament does not exist for me. But I spit on both of those teams so whatever.

I see the delayed Liverpool derby is on tomorrow – and a channel I get. Well how’s about that.

  25. Pope Jimbo

Did 50 die in a bus crash, or did 51 die in a bus crash?

Maybe they are still waiting for Covid tests to come back? They have a bunch of dead bodies in that bus, but if they come back Covid positive, then you can’t say they died from the crash. They died from the Rona.

  26. Pope Jimbo

Anyone else tired of hearing about how Musk is an “unelected” guy ruining govt.

Donald Trump is literally the only elected person in the entire Executive branch. Every single other person is an unelected person.

    • Ted S.

I think JD Vance was elected.

      • Pope Jimbo

OK sure smarty. Now name another.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Yeah, they don’t seem to have a problem with the unelected bureaucrats acting as the 4th branch of government.
