Probably a lot of you have heard of this film but never seen it. Here’s your chance! Shock Waves came out at a bad time, sandwiched between a bunch of other much more famous horror films such as Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc. Also, it didn’t have all the blood those movies did. I don’t think it needed it. First time I saw Shock Waves, I thought maybe it was a Hammer horror film because of the atmosphere. I was mistaken. The director (and co-writer) Ken Wiederhorn had nothing to do with Hammer Studios. Ken was an independent, out to make a movie. His first film out of film school! Keep in mind, not only was this his first commercial film, he was decades ahead of Dead Snow or Iron Sky.
So what is Shock Waves about? IMDB’s plot summary entry sucks this week, probably because they are afraid of supporting Nazis. So I will elaborate: A group of tourists on a boat run into some problems. They get stranded on an island with an escaped Nazi doctor tending to underwater Nazi zombies! Goose-stepping Rigor Mortis ensues! I know, basically the same plot from Gilligan’s Island, only with more fascism and less communism.*
Some Trivia! This was filmed at the Florida Biltmore Hotel, during a particularly dark time for the property: It was bought up by the city after being designated a *shudders* public landmark. It became empty for a decade and went to Hell in a handbasket. Government always knows best, etc. It is now safely back in the hands of capitalists. You can go stay there now, it has been totally restored!
So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary! Looks like it might stay that way for a while. And get pretty entertaining, to boot! Remember you can talk about anything you want, as soon as you want on Thursdays. There are no limits! For instance, what does everyone think of the tariffs?

So what the heck is going on weather-wise in NJ/PA? I have a package coming via UPS – with a gift for someone whose birthday is Sunday – that was SUPPOSED to be here today. It left Kingston, NY, and arrived at Parsippany, NJ, Tuesday evening, then left there yesterday at 3:30 a.m. At 7:00 a.m. yesterday, the report was “Severe weather conditions have delayed delivery”…and that’s the last I’ve heard. Is Parsippany a portal to Hell or something? 😒
