Yes, Spring is upon us. Birds are chirping, flowers are blooming, and I’ve got friggin’ weeds popping up everywhere. After I finish the Links, Spud is going all chemical warfare.
Links?
Yes, let’s send the Great Society to the dust bin of history.
Every shareholder who voted to keep DEI policies should be forced to watch this movie on a loop.
I was told there would be no math.
Another finger in the eye of an activist judge.
A delightful side benefit to DOGE activities.
Okay, that’s it for me. Time to put on my Level A HazMat suit and go to town.
Crank this to eleven, because it doesn’t go to twelve.
I used to eat dandelions as spring greens (preferably before they flower). Needed to be boiled twice to reduce the bitter flavor. Also ate the roots, but they were a lot of work to clean. Yes, I was once a wild food freak.
One of my wife’s favorite songs! And one of mine too. Great slice of life tune.
Dandelion wine is good.
Eh — I always preferred Something Wicked This Way Comes or The Martian Chronicles myself…
Mrs. Animal makes a lovely dandelion wine from our local crop.
I always wanted to try making it, but I’m too skeptical of anything picked from a lawn that had probably been sprayed numerous times. I guess this is on topic.
The live version is faster paced and just phenomenal.
When I was a kid, dandelions were one of the only wild plants that fit all three of “the wild edibles books say these are OK” and “young Pine_Tree can positively identify them” and “they’re growing in South Georgia”. So I munched on a lot of them just to say I did. Never gathered any, just ate a few while gamboling.
One of the dishes that I’ve been eating a lot of here in Korea is a salad made from wild onions mixed with vinegar and chili paste. Really good.
The most recent batch of wild onions though is dialed up to 11. No idea why these are so much stronger than the others we picked. They look the same size and came from generally the same spot.
I’m starting to feel bad for the poor guy who has to sit next to me on the way home. 12 hour flight next to a dude that stinks like a Korean.
That’s one way to render the lawsuit moot. “Sorry, Your Honor — the criminal non-citizens were removed from the jurisdiction of the United States.”
His outrageous statements claiming that his jurisdiction extends into International Waters are enough by themselves to trigger impeachment IMO.
Trump’s new order triggered sweeping changes to anti-discrimination rules — including a little-noticed memo stating that the federal government no longer would unequivocally prohibit contractors from operating “segregated facilities.”
That means it’s okay to have “coloreds only” safe spaces. You wouldn’t want the KKK suing for access, would you?
Gradually, then suddenly.
President Trump has embarked on a systematic effort to unravel Lyndon B. Johnson’s civil rights legacy, rolling back protections that have shaped American life for nearly six decades.
I read the whole article. I didn’t see anything about legislation to roll back anything beyond Congressional Republicans blocking efforts to renew elements of the Voting Rights Act. Huh. I think without that legislation, it is not a systematic effort.
“Sultans of Swing” is a good song.
I didn’t know until a few months ago that Knopfler used fingerstyle rather than a pick.
IFRC he used a hybrid style, part pick part fingerpicking.
All fingerpicking.
He started out fingerpicking folk/bluegrass and took it to the electric guitar.
I thought it was Knopfler that did the hybrid thing, goggle tells me it was SRV. I’ll turn in my guitar geek card mañana.
I like Leo’s cover version more.

First question people should be asking: “Have these programs actually helped or hindered society as a whole?” (I would argue they have fostered dependency, increased single mother households which leads to poor outcomes for children, attacked the black middle class.)
Second question: “Can we afford these programs anyway?” (35 trillion dollar answer — hell, no.)
Third question: Can we go back to 1870 as long as we’re going back and demolish the entire Progressive state? (Obvious answer… no one will go along with that but nutcases like me…)
“Have these programs actually helped or hindered society as a whole?”
I’d say that the programs have worked exactly as designed. Remember who the supremely enlightened and racially tolerant LBJ would have voting Democrat for the next 200 years?
It was only supposed to be 100 years, and here we are 60 years down the road and the cracks are showing.
lol Not me. I tapped out of that disgusting pile of FUD early. The author of that garbage should be ashamed of ximselfs.
One can agree with the sentiments of Uncle Ted (or Tim McVeigh, or John Brown) without condoning his actions.
Not in the intellectually childish, Manichean philosophy of the left. Everyone is either essentially good and everything they do is sacred or essentially bad and everything they do is tainted and diseased. Though, as a domestic terrorist he’s practically a patron saint of the Donks at this point so why bother hedging?
Trump forced the Pentagon to erase all non white soldiers from military history.
Well, to comply with order they did a simple word search a removed a bunch of shit that weren’t actually DEI.
They shouldn’t have and are putting them back. The press knows this, but it is more fun to claim Trump is erasing history. It makes neither FedGov nor MSM look good here.
But I find it funny because usually some poor private entity has to fucking scramble with some government edict in 24 hours and they (FedGov and MSM) can’t figure out why it is problematic.

Haha, excellent!

The CIA drug running operation started in the 1930s… Flying drugs out on American Military aircraft..
https://x.com/bennyjohnson/status/1902799856214675957
The CIA wasn’t even formed yet, and it was acting up.
Given I thought amphetamines, morphine and cocaine used to be distributed pretty widely — OSS (and the War Department in general) probably were flying drugs out on military aircraft.
And civilian aircraft…
I’d prefer the government fund itself through drug sales than income tax.
You have read Brave New World have you not?
I dunno about you but I could go for an orgy-porgy right about now.

Thank goodness there are no write-ins — or we’d be stuck with Pentagon McPentagon Face for 30 years.
Ok that was good.
I’m honestly surprised it did that well considering the terrible press and general “Disney live action remake of animation classic” fatigue that’s set in. (What’s next Disney… live remakes of your live remakes? When they do the “Black Cauldron… LIVE REMAKE!” you know they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel…)
A movie where the good girl is literally “White” and hangs out with a bunch of midgets. My god what were they thinking.
I thought the actress was Hispanx, which should have bought them an indulgence.

Maybe it’s just curiosity. They were going to have real Dwarfs then Peter Dinklage got involved. Then they changed to “7 people of diversity”. That had a huge backlash, so they went with CGI. Meanwhile the star is supposed to be more beautiful than GAL F’ING GADOT. Not to mention the press conferences where she went off the rails.
They had like 6 chances to let it die quietly. They should have done that.
Apparently the 7 people of diversity were actually bandits inserted for a weird plot diversion, or something.
Drinker reviewed the movie.
The “7 people of diversity” are in the movie, and they are band of actors turned thieves. But they have almost no involvement in the main story line after all the reshoots.
I have read that some small people are now complaining about how they’ve been cut out of the story by the CGI, nightmare-fuel drawves.
Did Terry Gilliam direct this?
If he had, then it would be good.
Egad.
A picture of a yard lion.

“They found that couples who eventually break up typically experience a mild decline in happiness for years, followed by a dramatic drop in the final months or years before separation.”
This study seems to occupy some hybrid space between being tautological and post hoc ergo propter hoc. “People break up because they are unhappy and when we look back on couples that broke up their happiness declined.”
Junk science.
SF parade should approach FCA for sponsorship. Maybe have a regional edition to fund it- Ram Power Bottom?

He told me i was going to hell. I’ll save you a spot at the bar.

“DHS agents and Florida police arrested Franklin Jose Jimenez-Bracho by reportedly “steering” him directly into a group of officers with handcuffs ready”
Did they ask Judge Shithead for permission?
NB: I think Trump should engage in malicious compliance with these judges and just start doing mass document dumps into their chambers. One page write ups of every single known illegal asking “Mother May I?” on each one; and then go ahead and deport them all anyway.
“the U.N. is currently experiencing its worst liquidity crisis since its establishment. The situation is expected to deteriorate further before any improvement occurs.”
Excellent, it’s injured. Now finish it off and turn the old building into a new Trump Hotel.

It gets easier every day to make poor decisions.
And fifty years from now, some of these poor decision makers will be featured in sob stories about how they can’t get by financially in retirement and the voters need to tell those evil bastard Republicans to allocate tax funds to help them.
Mrs. TOK is somewhere in New Mexico about to finish the Bataan Memorial March. She planned this trip almost 2 years ago, and of course she’s been fighting a hip and/or knee problem this year. But she’s posting photos and she looks happy-ish.
Meanwhile on FB, her cousin the teacher posted something about “this asshat is going to cost me my job” or something. The cousin’s brother replied, “that’s how I felt when I almost got fired because Biden tried to force us to take the vax.” I really wanted to chime in, but last time I did something like that it didn’t go well.
Update: She finished! 26 miles with a 35 pound ruck. Looks like about 10 hours? Definitely not DeadHead time, but I’m proud of her nonetheless. All she could say was, “EVERYTHING HURTS”.
Everything hurts, sometimes
Excellent
Sun is going down. I will be after dark soon.
I’ve got two pieces in the works, but I’d like to know how to upload pics, preferably with captions. If anyone can help me out, I’d love to do it myself, rather than have Tonio + TPTB add onto their days.
First is how, as a 10yo, took batting practice from a pro and broke his nose with a liner. Dad wrote the article in the paper, and I present it to you with art from his non-fiction book of the season.
The second is about my wayward career paths. Limiting myself, art from my Hong Kong and Laotian adventure adds clicks, blinks and interest! Eager to share ’em both with y’all. You’ve all been most excellent.
So we can expect an injunction against this in the next 12 hours?

Yeah but you’re not a government employee with an ABSOLUTE RIGHT to a job.*

“Tavish Forsyth, previously an associate artistic lead at the Washington National Opera’s Opera Institute, has been fired after releasing a nude video protesting changes being made at the Kennedy Center by President Trump and his point man Amb.

Yuh-huh. Lemme tell yas. The pic does justice. That kid ain’t got no bench.
No kidding. 🙄
I read the link and mistakenly thought Kennedy Space Center. Then I opened the article, saw the dude, and was confused. Still wondering why anyone with children would let that guy within fifty yards of them.

I am unable to even.
If you’re even unable to even even, can you even odd?
Evan’s math confuses even me, as even I haven’t the power to even odd.
#2 and #5. That natural look on 5 gets me.
#5 looks exactly like the-one-that-got-away™. For all I know it could actually *be* her.
She seems lovely. Sorry she slipped out of the trap.
I’ll remain Me and you can be ‘her,’ and it’ll work itself out.
I’m sure you’ll swallow that riposte with pleasure, ability and .. perhaps, vigor. We’ll work something out.

Feeding unique, false information independently to several suspects is a tried-and-true way to hunt for moles. It would not surprise me if they were doing that.
Tulsi’s not happy about intelligence leaks as well.
I’d pop some leaks into her, and add some Homeland Security to the three-ple. Noem-I sayin’?
I’ve found both to be rather .. permissive. It helps optimize our affairs.
How’d that protest of 500 Tesla dealers go?
I passed a Tesla dealership the other day… somewhere in the Catskills. First view of Cybertrucks in the wild. I was desperately looking for signs of vandalism but didn’t spot any.
There’s at least one that I spot on the regular along my commute.
No signs that vandalism is happening here so far, but I’ve not been looking too hard.
I saw a Cybertruck in the sticks of Eastern KY today.
There’s plenty of Tesla’s around here and all are perfectly intact.
Except for the (((Teslas))).
The Alto Knights
Robert De Niro once again playing Robert De Niro. No, I didn’t have to see the movie to know that.
Spent the 90s and 00s watching Gary Oldman disappear into roles, so I can’t take this De Niro guy seriously.
Who made a better vampire, Gary Old man or Willem Dafoe?
I waffle between the two.
Bowie?
Look. I know every single fucking word of that piece of Coppola soft core porn masquerading as cinema art that I love to bits and bits. I can’t remember how many times I saw that movie IN THE THEATER. Same with The Fugitive and Strictly Ballroom.
The 90s were GOLDEN for movies.
DeFoe, hands down.
that movie is the shizz.
🤔
I got a new camera today. Took a 5 second test video to make sure I had software compatability. When I played it back, most of the image was off the screen with large black bands on the left and right. I figured this was some oddity of the source file, but no. Handbrake found no such black bars, DaVinci Resolve found no such bars. A re-encode from both gave me the same bars when playing back, unless I reduced the resolution.
VLC was sizing the video window wrong. If I shrink the width, the video stays the same size on the screen.
How bizarre.
Meant to post this around noon, but got an error:
The best JFK take:

Conducting his own investigation, Donahue eventually decided that the bullet that struck Kennedy in the head had in fact been fired by United States Secret Service Special Agent George Warren Hickey Jr. (March 24, 1923 – February 25, 2005) from an AR-15 rifle carried in the car immediately following the President’s vehicle. The proposed series of events is as follows: After the first shot (which hit the street) was fired, Hickey turns completely around and looks toward Oswald, who is on the sixth floor of the school book depository building. His turned head is documented in an AP photograph by James Altgens. Hickey reaches for the AR-15 under the seat, releases the safety and begins to lift the gun. The second shot is fired by Oswald, hitting the president and Texas Governor John Connally. The president’s car and the follow-up car containing Hickey suddenly speed up. This is attested to by Secret Service agent Clint Hill. Hickey, who is unstable because he is standing on the cushion of the seat, rather than the floor of the car, begins to fall back due to the acceleration of the vehicle, pulling the trigger of the AR-15. The gun is pointed toward Kennedy at that instant, and the bullet strikes him squarely in the back of the head.
***
Makes sense as Hickey was even supposed to be on guard duty. He was covering for the regular crew who were all hungover.
***
As agent John Norris said in Bill Sloan’s book “J.F.K.: Breaking the Silence” and in an interview for Vincent Michael Palamara’s book “Survivor’s Guilt”: “Except for George Hickey and Clint Hill, [many of the others] just basically sat there with their thumbs up their butts while the president was gunned down in front of them.”
According to the Vanity Fair report, nine of the 28 Secret Service men who were in Dallas with Kennedy that day had been out until the early hours of the morning. A few were sleep-deprived and had been drinking while traveling with the president.
However, this type of partying by Secret Service members was not unusual.
In his 2008 book, “The Echo from Dealey Plaza,” Abraham Bolden, one of the only African American agents in Kennedy’s detail, writes that he was later framed and sent to prison as retaliation for speaking out about the lax behavior tolerated within the department.

Lead singer is on the straight and narrow and has an interesting YT channel.
Never seen or heard of it before. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Was expecting “Sweet Caroline.” 😄
As a Bostonian, I hate that song.
Creepy-ass peon to an underage Kennedy.
If Diamond has said that was the inspiration, he’s been changing his story.
I 100% buy it’s syllable reasons and not the Kennedy daughter urban legend.
Also, Cracklin Rose I’m sorry to say is not about masturbation.
Also that song meaning you really think is cool is nonsense. Some stoned guy just shit out a catchy tune and some rhymes and your imagination made it interesting.
