Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls

Ladies, Gentlemen and Lurkers, tonight is a blind viewing! That’s right, I will be watching this for the first time right along side all of you. This is exciting! Will this be good, or will the pitchforks and torches come out?

What I know: This is a film by fabled production/promotion company Bloody Disgusting, it is a completely independent film written, starring and directed by Andrew Bowser, a guy who has done mostly shorts and TV up to this point, and it has a stunning 6.2/10 on IMDB, which puts it in the top tier of what I normally show. It is also from 2023, which makes it one of the newest films I have posted.

So what is it about?

Fledgling occultist Onyx and a group of worshipers attend a once-in-a-lifetime ritual at their idol BARTOK THE GREAT’S mansion.

That’s it? Well, I guess that is all we get. I can say this was a Kickstarter funded project, and that Onyx is a recurring character that Andrew has brought up throughout other short films. I wish Andrew the best, and I hope we get to see more from him and other independents in the future!

So watch! Or don’t! Everything is voluntary! Next week, this theater of the absurd continues with Black Roses, a 1980s Heavy Metal Panic film!

On a personal note, My apologies for the brevity of reviews this past few weeks. Moving, endless furniture construction and box emptying is taking every spare moment. Things should return to normal by end of April.

“My apologies for the brevity of reviews this past few weeks.”

    No need to apologize.

    • Evan from Evansville

No. Apologize harder. Harder. No! Don’t stop…

…these posts of exceptional merit. Deepest thanks to your steadfast devotion.

  2. Common Tater

I’ve been watching for the last ten minutes. So far the main character seems rather annoying.

    • R.J.

      Yep. Agreed.

  3. rhywun

Out of town so I’ll have to miss this one but I look forward to the reviews here.

  4. R.J.

Sorry I am late! I was busy making vodka martinis.

      “My name is J., R.J.”

    • Chafed

I guess you also checked your 401k balance today. I’m not sure when the Fuck Trump chants will begin at NASCAR races, but it won’t be long if this keeps up.

        Patience. JFC.

Still ahead. But today was brutal.

      • Evan from Evansville

I have no money so nothing on Wall Street affected me. (Directly.)

I’d reckon that describes 80+% of Americans.

      • R.J.

All my money is in gold or vape rays, which aren’t on earth yet. Those things sell like hot cakes elsewhere. Zap!

      • creech

Evan, that’s what 95 percent of people thought in Oct. 1929.

      • Evan from Evansville

@creech: Yes, but I’d still be broke, and in the same position. (Loving family alone keeping me out of the gutter.)

        You’re helping my point.

      • Chafed

Have you asked your family if today’s market meltdown affects them?

  5. Aloysious

Oh, I can’t wait to watch this one.

*stares at clock with malign intent*

Anyone know whether the drivers/ISP Programmer for the Artery microcontrollers have any chinese spyware in them?

I want to mod my GoTEK with FlashFloppy but a requirement is using the software from the chinese manufacturer of the chip to actually do the flashing.

I don’t trust chinese software. Another reason I want to replace the base firmware (aside from the lack of functionality)

How I imagine you shop for groceries:

You could always go the PBS Woodwright’s Shop route and start by making your own hammer from scratch.

    I have a second recommendation.

    Slave girls from beyond infinity.

    😇😛🤪

    • Evan from Evansville

? My bedroom is not beyond infinity. It’s precisely as much infinity as you’d expect.

The spice of slavish lasses, however, isn’t indefinite. (My orphans clock in and out – especially for lunch – and their two fifteens are carefully tracked with cause. (Ya gotta keep track of the ‘disgruntled’ berefts, fore they go to the curmudgeonly courts. Nothing goes on and on like the appellates.))

    • R.J.

I will add it. It’s out there on Tubi, I think. Maybe already in my pile of 536 saves.

  8. Festus

This morning we visited the Neurologist. It’s been three and a half years waiting. Yes, there was poking and prodding involved. Literally. I should have seen this fellow 14 years ago. A warning to Americans – do not let them offer you “free” healthcare.

    • R.J.

      TANSTAAFL

      • Festus

It is a teaching Hospital so I got to answer the question “When was the last time you had an erection?” right in front of an attractive, fecund intern. I wanted to die.

      • Chafed

Please tell us you gently put her hand on your crotch and said “right now.”

      • Festus

I’m a bright person but that would have beyond my ken. Well said!

      • Festus

I don’t feel Canadian no more and one branch of my family has been here for thousands of years, all of the rest for hundreds. Laurentians fucked us and handed the nation over to the WEF.

    • Evan from Evansville

I’m seeing my new neurologist in a couple weeks. I didn’t like my old one, with hardly the 15min per visit, but that wasn’t (solely) why a new one was sought.

I wish you the best of luck.

  9. Brochettaward

You know what never crashes? What is market proof? The value of a First.

    • Chafed

Maybe it will become a reserve currency.

  10. Derpetologist

Tee hee, I got them fired!

The director and No. 2 official at the National Security Agency were both ousted from their positions Thursday, according to a defense official and three sources with knowledge of the matter.

It was not immediately clear why Air Force Gen. Timothy Haugh and his deputy were dismissed, the sources said.

      Mornin’.

Work begins now in Noblesville. Per usual, I’m excited for the day to go by quickly. It does tend to.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, Sean, U, and EfE!

      • Gender Traitor

OK. Still haven’t made up for my lack of sleep Wednesday night, but my boss is off today, so I hope that means a quiet day at work. How about you?

      • UnCivilServant

I woke up with my alarm, the store was open when I got there, and I arrived at the parking lot at 6:26. The office is currently dead quiet, and I even have a proper breakfast salad with egg, ham, and peppers.

      • Gender Traitor

        😃👍

      • cavalier973

Does your boss yell a lot?

      • Gender Traitor

No, he doesn’t yell. He can just be a little…high maintenance.

    • PieInTheSky

      that song sucks

      • Ted S.

Compared to my music links, everything else sucks.

    • UnCivilServant

The URL was funnier than the actual article headline.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

I’ve mistakenly sent innocuous pics to the wrong contact but never a vid of me jerking off. Lesson learned I suppose.

    • UnCivilServant

I hope the congressional harrassment slush fund payment record gets released in Discovery.

“Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful”.

    I’m buying.

    Morning.

    • cavalier973

      Sell high and buy low.

      • UnCivilServant

Short the company then drone strike their overseas production facilities.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Damnit, I had that mixed up. No wonder I’m broke.

  12. Evan from Evansville

Mandatory, and scheduled, 15min ‘breaks’ are a misnomer. And you HAVE to have it before lunch or ya lose it. Ditto for the afternoon break. The Factory must produce.

Lunch in 1.5hrs. When I get off the Cubs game’ll be in the third, or so. (Don’t any of you work?)

    • UnCivilServant

I’m at work, what are you talking about?

  13. mindyourbusiness

Ain’t it amazing that the networks never mention that the tariffs are mostly reciprocal? Not one. single. word.
Mrs. MYB and I have just about given up on the TV news due to the bias.

    • rhywun

Yeah, I had no idea that we’ve been heavily tariffed by the rest of the world all this time.

      • mindyourbusiness

It should be interesting to listen to the sqeals of indignation from abroad.

  14. Beau Knott

    Mornin’ all!

    • R.J.

      Morning!
Overall this movie did not being out pitchforks, nor peals of laughter. I think the overall score was “meh.”

  15. cavalier973

I see that my article posted yesterday.

I missed it, because I was doing other things.

    Oh, well.

    *shameless advertisement*

My next project may be either something about Dungeons and Dragons, or post office etiquette.

    • Ted S.

The post office is still a thing?

      • cavalier973

Well hold on to the letter end.
