These are my guys. I hope to periodically cross-post these here (they appreciate any YouTube subscriptions). Fear not veggie types, for “beer can cauliflower” will be coming up soon.

Hello, is there anybody in there?

    • Nephilium

      In there or in here?

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Both man, my schizophrenia’s acting up. And where’s Bro? That was an easy first if I’ve ever seen one. The dude’s getting lazy.

      • UnCivilServant

        Don’t encourage him.

      • Brochettaward

This post would be over 100 comments if I Firsted. You people don’t deserve me.

      • Master JaimeRoberto (royal we/us)

        You’re right. We don’t.

    • blackjack

Just nod if you can hear me.

      • Plinker762

When you nod your head, I’ll hit it.

    • DEG

I’m just pretending to be here.

    • Chai Girl

      Hi. I’m new here.

      • dontreadonme

        Tulpa, is that you? Welcome!

      • But Enough About [this space intentionally left blank]

        Welcome, Chai Girl.

And, as is the tradition here at Glibs, “Fuck off, Tulpa!”

        (You’ll get used to us soon enough . . . )

      • Gender Traitor

I greet you with a hearty and heartfelt, “Fuck off, Tulpa!” (Tulpette?) How did you stumble across our little den of iniquity?

  2. Shpip

Local likker store had Erdinger Dunkel for $8 / 6-pack.

Going to be a good evening. Might have to pick up more for Sunday’s game.

    • Fourscore

      Game on Sunday?

      • hayeksplosives

The Big Game hasn’t yet been trademarked by the NFL; the more common term for it is The Big Game.

(When I tried to type The Big Game, I accidentally put “athebi” which my phone tried to change to “atheism.”

        Freudian slip?)

      • Chai Girl

Super Bowl or you can watch the Puppy Bowl. I like the commercials, but they have sucked recently not that great.

      • Gender Traitor

Yeah, the prospect of watching Snoop & Martha for that long kinda puts me off. Their Tostitos commercials are about as much of the two of them as I can take in one sitting.

      • rhywun

And the Puppy Bowl is going to be some Puddin’ Joe puff piece. I’d rather subject myself to this year’s SB commercials which you know are going to be horrible.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

      Ugh, uncanny valley is uncanny.

  3. juris imprudent

Just came back from a nice evening with neighbors, read the Time article from earlier. Fisked it for my FB friends (by repeating the mantra of “free, fair credible and uncorrupted” after quoting each statement that contradicted that, it was a long post).

AlexinCT, I owe you at the least a small apology and a large bourbon. I’ll even do the reverse if you prefer.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

It was an interesting article wasn’t it? Quite the read…

      • blackjack

What’s funny is all the pussy assed red team punks who’ve been insisting this whole election is fair and transparent. Now, they have break out the weasel words thesaurus.

      • But Enough About [this space intentionally left blank]

I’ve read stuff before from Western press that had bits ‘n pieces of Orwellian language in it, but I’ve never seen a sustained piece of Newspeak like this article. It’s breathtakingly awful, particularly in its casual acceptance of virtually every part of what is sometimes called “The Narrative.” The author isn’t a journalist; more like a mewling sycophant, a witling for whom the word “bootlicker” is uniquely suited.

Although I always appreciated the turn of phrase of the old North Vietnamese disinfo folks: “A running-dog lackey.”

I’m sure The Powers That Be will reward her handsomely in the weeks, months and years to come.

      • Brochettaward

I liked how briefly the various court battles were presented, and it was all framed as if it were the Trump administration pushing for new measures when it was the unprecedented weakening of laws meant to ensure the integrity of the election that resulted in those court battles.

The mass uptick in mail-in voting would not have been possible or even legal a year ago today. It has been stated on here that the most charitable reading of what happened is that they weakened laws to allow for mass ballot harvesting in the states where the laws were weakened most.

    • Brochettaward

You were wrong. And you should feel bad.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

I appreciate a skeptic admitting he was wrong, JI’s alright.

      • blackjack

True. I was talking about the never Trump faction in congress above, BTW.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

I think the plotters will just say the article writer is nuts/unconnected/ignorant and that’ll provide cover but we’ll see.

      • Gustave Lytton

Or just ignore it. Like Hunter’s laptop.

      • hayeksplosives

It still galls that Hunter’s behavior was not only overlooked entirely by the media as a reflection on Joe, but that Hunter was able to turn his disgraceful behavior into a $2M advance on a book he will “write” about his struggles with addiction. Poor kid.

Honestly I wouldn’t hold a candidate’s idiot relations against said candidate, but in this case the candidate enabled, encouraged, and benefitted from putting his son in a power position in the Ukraine.

That makes hunter’s behavior highly relevant to the President’s character and judgment.

      • juris imprudent

Not the first time and I’m fairly sure it won’t be the last.

  4. Spudalicious

Nice video, Swiss! I look forward to seeing what they have to offer.

  5. commodious spittoon

Sipping Redemption Rye tonight. It’s not bad. Don’t no nuthin about rye, but I needed a break from scotch. S’okay. Peppery, a little sweet.

    • Nephilium

Redemption Rye wasn’t so bad, but it was kind of meh to me. Bulleit Rye is my usual go to.

      • Ownbestenemy

I was trying to decide to get a bottle of Bulleit while I was out here. I didn’t want to leave any in the hotel room if I couldn’t finish it off. So its just beer.

      • slumbrew

I love me some Michter’s rye, but Sazerac rye is very good for the money.

    • Chipwooder

Tin Cup is a nice one

    • rhywun

I’m working on a double Manhattan I made with my new Oxo.

      Turns out I’m drunk.

      • Gender Traitor

Oh, noes! That cunning new measuring cup must be defective, and you quite inadvertently mixed your drink too strong!

(I did that once back in the day, accidentally mixing up a Black Russian double-strength. I call it my near-death experience.)

      • But Enough About [this space intentionally left blank]

        Just one?

Man, Death comes for cheap these days.

      • Gender Traitor

Come to think of it, I might have had two of those. And I was both a literal and figurative lightweight back then. (Sophomore or junior year in college?) I vaguely remember a concerned RA telling me I was much too thin to drink that much. I think I responded along the lines of, “I’m not THAT thin. Do you really think I’m that thin?” I also told her she was very nice and I was sorry we couldn’t have met under better circumstances.

      • commodious spittoon

Turns out by my katebushometer, they’re all too drunk to

“A Ranking of Ryes: Final Round” is coming soon!

  6. LemonGrenade

Agreed, nice video. Next time I’m camping, I might have to try it.

    • blackjack

I’ve tried it, but only because I was drunk and accidentally dropped them in there. They seemed fine, but I really don’t remember.

    • Chipwooder

You know who loved to cook steaks this way? Dwight Eisenhower, not kidding. He was famous for it.

      • LemonGrenade

It’s a handy thing to keep in mind, since sometimes campsites will provide a fire ring, but not a grate. We already do things like potatoes, etc down among the coals, but it hadn’t occurred to me to try it with the meat, too.

      • Chipwooder

I’ve tossed a steak into a fire in a foil packet before but never directly onto the coals. I’ve known about the technique for a while but the idea of a steak coated in ashes always was a bit off-putting to me.

  7. Fourscore

This afternoon I started thinking about the college loan fiasco . If the loan payoff is anything like the vaccine roll out (and why should it be any different?) some people will get very, very rich, some that have their loans payed will get retroactive payments, some that didn’t have a loan will get money, some loans will not get paid and will require a # 2 College Loan payoff.

There will be unimaginable amounts of money disappearing. Every possible mistake in distribution will be available and scammed. There will be good times for a lot of folks, including college administrators.

    • The Gunslinger

      Feature not bug

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Yeah, it’s all a scam now. The only suckers are those who refuse to cash in because of principles and shit. (for whoever’s our FBI handler, I’m just kidding)

      • rhywun

Any guesses as to how long “principles” will remain a thing in the US at the rate we’re going?

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Why live up to live up that which screws yourself? Cash in amigo.

      • commodious spittoon

Trump stumbled ass-backwards into the fact that winning is, you know, a winning strategy, much to the disappointment of principled conservatism… so now we have a party which embraced the BAMN mantle decades ago and a party which is still contending with the idea that principle might by something you can avowedly betray as well as subtly betray.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

The sad thing is that when the opposition party actually does what they need to do we’ll go straight into a civil war. If they never do take a stand we’ll be Venezuela (if we’re lucky).

    • Broswater

A thing that saddens me the most is that this is going to come straight out of the working man’s paycheck.

I work with a lot of kids and people that barely, barely, if not even, made it thru high school. And never will go higher than that.

Great workers, great people, just don’t you know, ask them about Newton or something.

Where is their 50k $ for their own fruitless pursuits?

So much for that black lady stocking shelves at the grocery store.

      • rhywun

Since Europe is way ahead of us on this, we can actually see that end result of this plan is vastly fewer students in college. Though vocational education there is often “free” too.

  8. Ownbestenemy

    Gonna have to try that.

I have a brisket flat corning at home that will be smoked for some pseudo-pastrami. Not exactly the correct cut of meat, but it works.

    • Semi-Spartan Dad

Nice. I picked up a 16 pound prime packer for cooking tomorrow. A few hours of heavy smoke on the grill and then overnight in the oven at 195. Not quite the same as if it smoked the whole time but pretty damn close for a lot less work.

  9. Count Potato

“So……. they are pretty much saying they have to stop incitement of violence by inciting violence themselves!

    • trshmnstr the terrible

I really feel like I live in a different country than even in 2016. The left is fundamentally broken in very scary ways.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

I saw that, she kinda said that with a dose of plausible deniability but she’s smart enough to realize influential people will pick that up and run with it. Honestly though, what do you do with terrorists? They’re not worthy of much consideration after all.

  10. rhywun

    @Neph

Oxo’s cute little 2oz measuring cup arrived from Amazon today. Can’t wait to put it to use. I too hate the jigger that came with my mixing set.

    • trshmnstr the terrible

Is it the one with the angled part that has the marks?

      • Nephilium

If it’s the one I linked to, it is. They’re awesome for cocktail mixing.

        Hope you enjoy it rhywun.

      • rhywun

        ?

And for good measure, my jigger’s cups are 1.25oz and 0.75oz. I’ve been told those are not normal sizes. And I hate doing 3rd grade math every time I want a drink.

      • Nephilium

They are not. Usually the jigger/pony are a 1.5 and 1 ounce.

      • Count Potato

        Jigger, please.

        It should be 1 1/2 & 1 oz

      • Gustave Lytton

Are those for mixing up Roy Rogers and Shirley Temples?

      • rhywun

Yes. I’ve had its bigger brother for years and years.

    • Gender Traitor

Metal or plastic? I was just looking at the plastic one at Meijer earlier this evening.

      • Nephilium

This was the one I linked to in the Cocktails 101 article.

      • rhywun

Plastic. Just like a regular measuring cup but tiny.

      • slumbrew

I have both the metal & plastic versions but prefer the metal (I have two of those) – I use them all the time, esp while cooking – they’re marked with tablespoon measures as well as ounces, so they’re way easier to use than measuring spoons.

Local cocktail-centric places seem to like the metal ones as well.

    • EvilSheldon

I have one of the metal ones. It’s pretty awesome.

    • Count Potato

Does anyone know of a good measuring shot glass? I have one but most of the lines eventually wore off. Meanwhile I have a couple of measuring cups from the 50’s that are still perfectly legible.

      • Nephilium

Does it need to be a shot glass?

      • Count Potato

Not really, but I want it to be glass, not plastic.

      • Nephilium

Looks like Anchor Hocking makes something that may fit your needs.

      • Count Potato

Maybe I’ll look at their website and see if they make something smaller.

      • db

Wal-mart has some good two- or four-ounce glasses graduated in teaspoons, ounces and milliliters that I like to use for mixing drinks.

      • Count Potato

        2 oz would be fine

  11. Fourscore

Just saw that Lou Dobbs was cancelled.

I noticed last night that Trey Gowdy was not fired up and made a mental note to myself. Again he closed out tonight with some softball. Fox News looks to me like there have been some changes and are way less adversarial.

    /Concerned Citizen

    • Gender Traitor

I almost never watch TV news, but from hearing about some of the things Tucker Carlson has said recently, he may be the last voice crying in the wilderness.

      • Fourscore

        Or the next to go…

      • commodious spittoon

Too visible, too valuable. He’ll be the next to be suborned. His family was threatened directly a couple years ago. Who knows, maybe that was organic, some leftists get his home address, take the fight to him. Who knows. I bet he doesn’t. I bet he wonders.

      • Drake

Notice MSNBC and CNN don’t cancel their most popular shows?

      • Count Potato

        CNN has popular shows?

      • Gender Traitor

More popular than Fox suddenly, for the first time in years.

    • rhywun

The same owners are doing the same thing to the NY Post.

    • Trigger Hippie

‘Fox News looks to me like there have been some changes and are way less adversarial.

      /Concerned Citizen’

Fox News was skinsuited by Murdock’s spawn a few years ago. They’re basically MSNBC via 2006 at this point. People who lean conservative or clap along progressives that still believe Fox is “Right Wing” are chumps.

Tucker is just an unprincipled/populist distraction…think O’Reilly with a less abrasive personality and enough restraint to not try to fuck all his female coworkers.

I was pretty sure I was going to pass that class anyway, but I broke into the school computer to fortify my score to an A+ in order to ensure that the resulting course grade was morally right.o

Book some first class tickets to France while you’re at it.

      • grrizzly

Unable to fly in first class to France, I have to eat free steak day after day.

      I remember that movie.

  13. Drake

I caught some of the struggle session / therapy in Congress. Just when I think they can’t disgust me more.

These lying fucks were never in the least bit of danger but they act like it was traumatic. Meanwhile they have zero fucks to give for the people robbed, beaten, and burned out of their homes by the mobs they unleashed last year.

      • Brochettaward

That was one of the more interesting tidbits in the Time article. On election night, they had the heads of “activist” organizations on their Zoom call itching to take to the streets because they didn’t like the way the election was headed and they were ordered to stand down. What a grassroots movement…

  14. Tulip

Hyperbole, I’m disappointed you didn’t join us. Everyone should join us on the Zoom. It’s fun, we make fun of WesternSloper.

    • commodious spittoon

Fair warning, they found me too ugly to include, so they kicked me off. I even put the camera on my good side.

      • Tulip

you lie. We didn’t kick you off for that. You’re welcome back, anyway

      • Brochettaward

I was kicked off once. The Bro knows when he isn’t wanted.

      • commodious spittoon

They said my good side camera wasn’t good enough. They hurled abuse at me, it was really hurtful.

      • Tulip

In SB news one of KC’s assistant coaches (and Andy Reid’s son) was involved in a multi-car accident. He is in hospital and 2 kids as well, one with life-threatening injuries.

    • Count Potato

      I hope they are OK.

    • creech

Appears to be another DUI for the kid, and another heart ache for Andy.

    • Chipwooder

Oh look, Andy Reid’s lowlife son strikes again

      • Brochettaward

I know very few people who do drink or who have drank in their life who haven’t driven drunk before.

Also, what sort of idiot actually runs out of gas and has to park on the side of the road?

      • Brochettaward

I’m not excusing the behavior, I just find that there are a whole lot of people who get sanctimonious when this subject comes up and from my own experience there’s a lot of them I’m like I’ve seen your ass drive drunk. You have no room to talk because nothing bad happened while you did it.

He hasn’t been arrested yet, though he admitted to consuming some amount of alcohol. I don’t personally prescribe to the retarded notion that no matter what happens, even a drop of alcohol in your system should make you liable for anything bad that happens. You had two cars parked in some way on the side of the road. I’d like to know more details of that accident before I say anything on the particular case.

      • Trigger Hippie

To repeat an unpopular opinion of mine: drunk driving in and of itself shouldn’t be illegal. If there’s a victim, there’s a crime. If not, there isn’t a crime. We can argue about the wisdom of doing it(for the record, I think it’s pretty fucking stupid/reckless). Have I done it as a young man? You bet. Did I ever hurt anybody doing it? No. Get a DUI? No. But I was very, very, lucky. Should extra time and penalties be included if you hurt or kill someone while driving drunk over doing the same driving sober? I’m completely open to that. You added unnecessary risk to an already dangerous endeavor…suck it. If this guy was driving drunk and it caused harm to others, fuck him.

P.S. For those who want to pull the “If you knew someone who died from a drunk driver…” bullshit, stop. Been there, done that, went to the funerals. I’ve buried more than a handful of friends from drug overdoses as well. Doesn’t mean I still don’t think you own your own body, free to do with it as you will until it causes harm to another’s person or property.

      • rhywun

You’re not wrong. The Law has no business telling people not to do stupid things.

    • slumbrew

Huh, this whole time they just needed Uncle Sugar to command it in order to increase production. Who knew?

Here in Spokane I have noticed more non-masked shoppers at Safeway. Today one was talking one of the cashiers and no one seemed to care. Also my favorite Mexican restaurant here has decided to allow indoor sit down eating despite the state ban.

    • Chipwooder

I envy you. When I go out and about these days, I’m about the only swinging dick who isn’t wearing a face diaper on my walk from the parking lot to the store.

      • one true athena

I hold it in my hand, so I clearly have one and then shove it on approaching the door. But I’m one of the few – not the only, thank goodness, but still, not many are doing even that much around here.

      • Plinker762

The advantage of owning a small engineering and steel fab shop, I haven’t worn a mask at work yet. Only worn one when flying on business trips. Also, I’m a half hour from North Idaho and no masks in the small towns.

    • Ownbestenemy

While I am not happy to be in OKC on business, I am enjoying the not-giving-a-damn about masks and social distancing. Went to lunch inside a restaurant where all tables were open. Also sat at a bar for the first time in 9 months. It will be bitter sweet going back to the Vegas camps.

    • Tejicano

Most people here wear masks while going about their business but every once in a while I see somebody without one. People generally give them the stink eye but it’s very subtle. I wear one just to not be “that Gaijin”. The other day I saw an older woman not wearing one on the train which is very unusual.

During our evening post-dinner walk my wife and I generally don’t wear masks – which is socially acceptable here during outdoor exercise.

I’m waiting for this whole stupid mask thing to blow over because wearing a mask always fogs up my sunglasses.

“Justices of this court are not scientists. Nor do we know much about public health policy. Yet today the court displaces the judgments of experts about how to respond to a raging pandemic,” Kagan wrote.

So as long as self-styled experts have the proggie stamp of approval, Kagan is happy to cede our basic rights as free people.

      Got it.

The next sentence is even better:
