    What’s so great indigenous people?

    • DEG

Today is supposed to be a company holiday. It was on the list as “Indigenous People’s Day.” I thought, “It’s really Columbus Day”.

I’m going to work most of it.

      • DEG

But… work only after I get back from the gym. I slept in today.

      • Rat on a train

The real Columbus Day is Wednesday.

      • Pat

I was completely unaware this was Columbus Day. It’s also Canadian Thanksgiving. So happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian neighbors.

      • Gender Traitor

I second your wishes, but I haven’t seen any of them yet this morning. Maybe they’re all working.

The Irish, Swedes, and English aren’t “indigenous” enough in their native lands and have to be replaced.

    • Semi-Spartan Dad

My sister just paid MSRP + $6,000 for a new Honda Odyssey. That was the best she could get after haggling at three dealerships. None of the three actually had any inventory, but the dealership she bought from is expecting to get a single Odyssey in later this month, which is now hers.

She also looked at slightly used Odyssey instead, but I think it was only $2k less than going new, even at MSRP+.

Former Fed Chair Ben Bernanke, 2 others share Nobel Prize in economics

Oct. 10 (UPI) — Former Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and two other U.S. economists were awarded the Nobel Prize in economics Monday for research seeking to help the United States avoid financial collapses in the future.

The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences went to Bernanke of the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.; Douglas W. Diamond, of the University of Chicago and Philip H. Dybvig, of Washington University in St. Louis, for studies that “demonstrate the importance of preventing widespread bank collapses.”

The Academy recognized the 68-year-old Bernanke for his examination into the causes of the Great Depression and more recently the 2008 housing market crash.

“The Great Depression of the 1930s paralyzed the world’s economies for many years and had vast societal consequences,” the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said in a statement announcing the award. “However, we have managed subsequent financial crises better thanks to research insights from this year’s laureates.”

    Morning y’all!

I hope it’s a good week. I started lifting at the local rec center, because its close to my house, but they only have 1 power rack and 2 benches. Guess what was being used all morning by other people? So that was irritating. I really need to join the real gym, but its across town which means I cant just roll out of bed and be there. Also means a longer drive to work, so I have to wake up earlier to get the same workout in. First world issues, I guess.

Didn’t pay attention to politics all weekend, is everything still screwed? [Checks links] Of course it is.

    • Rat on a train

I’m not as into working out as the GlibFits. Walking is the extent of my normal activity but at least it is right out the door. I try to get at least 5 miles each day. Not difficult with the current fall weather.

      • Cowboy

Nice, walking/running is probably my least favorite activity. I’m not a power lifter by any stretch. I was big into it in high school/college, but got lazy and fat. Wife and I put on some pounds with the little cowpoke and everything that comes with it, and now we’re trying to get in shape. I want him to have a dad when hes older, and I want to be a good role model, and of course, be fit enough to chase him around and keep up with him as he learns sports

So, keto for the last month or two, and now I’m two weeks into Stronglifts 5×5 and having a good time doing it. I started at the bottom, since its been so long, but only place to go is up. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

      • Zwak. who's suit is as ragged as his nerves.

I don’t mind lifting, but I hate working out. So, walking was always my favorite. But, with the current physical issues, it is a bit of a chore. I have started riding a adult tricycle around, trying to work on my balance for getting back on a real bicycle, which is even better.

        But, fuck running.

      • Rat on a train

My wife also doesn’t care for walking. I tried to get her to walk with me but she doesn’t care to go regularly. She prefers going to the gym for exercise classes. Maybe I can hook up with the hot, young woman that walks by our house regularly. She lives a few houses down the street.

      • Grosspatzer

Maybe I can hook up with the hot, young woman that walks by our house regularly.

Extra bonus: Dodging rusty tin can lids is a great cardio workout.

    • Pat

Hit Craigslist or (ugh) Facebook Marketplace, you can pick up a bench, a bar and some plates for a song.

      • Cowboy

Thats the plan for the future, go ahead and get my own power rack, olympic bar, and weights. Space is the issue right now. I’m in the process of getting a minisplit for the garage, and transforming it into the home theater/office/workout space, but its 6+ months out considering all the work that needs to be done. So in the meantime I have to schlepp it over to the gym

voters identified in Article V, Section 4A of the Delaware Constitution.
Therefore, the judgment of the Court of Chancery that the Vote-by-Mail
Statute violates the Delaware Constitution should be affirmed.
    2. The Same-Day Registration Statute3
conflicts with the provisions of Article V,
Section 4 of the Delaware Constitution. Consequently, the judgment of the
Court of Chancery that the Same-Day Registration Statute does not violate the
    Delaware Constitution should be reversed.

The tech tyrants are out of control

Our corporate overlords are out of control. Just look at PayPal. It appears to have flirted with the idea of fining people for saying problematic things, for dealing in wrongthink. A briefly published new policy said users might have a whopping $2,500 seized from their coffers if PayPal believed they were engaged in ‘misinformation’ or ‘hate speech’. Just think about what an egregious affront this would have been not only to freedom of speech but also to the fundamentals of justice. Without a trial, presumably even without the right of representation, an individual or organisation could have been subjected to severe financial punishment on the say so of some hip moderator in California who didn’t like something they said. Tech tyranny is getting serious now.

PayPal backtracked on the policy incredibly swiftly. The published policy said any PayPal user who breaks the rules on misinformation or hateful commentary could be subject to ‘damages, including liquidated damages of $2,500 US dollars per violation, which may be debited from your PayPal account’. The online response to this threatened stiff fining of people with problematic views was intense. Even PayPal’s former president, David Marcus, couldn’t believe what he was reading. ‘It’s hard for me to openly criticise a company I used to love and gave so much to’, he said. ‘But PayPal’s new [policy] goes against everything I believe in. A private company now gets to decide to take your money if you say something they disagree with. Insanity.’ Insanity indeed.

    […]

We shouldn’t just ‘move on’ from this policy proposal. It’s too egregious for that. That corporate elites in Silicon Valley even thought about stealing money from the anti-woke is a terrifying sign of the times. After all, what is ‘misinformation’? What is ‘hate speech’? These are not neutral categories. They are highly politicised terms used to describe speech and ideas that the elites consider ‘unacceptable’. Some, like Jacinda Ardern, consider questioning the climate-change narrative to be ‘misinformation’. Criticising the cult of transgenderism or the religion of Islam is viewed by some as ‘hate speech’ – as transphobia or Islamophobia. Over the past few weeks PayPal restricted the accounts of the Free Speech Union and UsForThem. So, is defending freedom of speech a form of ‘hate speech’? Is questioning lockdown and its pernicious impact on the young – which is what UsForThem does – ‘misinformation’? What a fool one would have to be to allow wealthy, prejudiced tech people in California to define what misinformation is, and what hate is, and to punish anyone they find guilty of committing such speech transgressions.

    […]

PayPal’s fantasy of fining people for sinful speech speaks to how arrogant the Silicon Valley elites have become. Emboldened by a political class that pleads with them to be more controlling, and by woke activists cheering on their every act of censorship, these online bosses are becoming more bloated, more cocky and more dangerous. It’s time to clip their wings. They must not be allowed to undermine our speech rights, our democratic rights and our legal rights. PayPal, you’ve gone way too far.

    • Timeloose

I read that article this morning. It’s insane, PayPal’s behaviors would be called theft. They are not a government and don’t have the power to “fine” me. I would imaging there is some weasel words written into a TOS that would allow this if they implemented it. Reminds me of this.

Russia unleashed a lethal barrage of strikes against multiple Ukrainian cities Monday, smashing civilian targets including downtown Kyiv where at least eight people were killed.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the strikes were retaliation for what he called Kyiv‘s “terrorist” actions, including an attack last weekend on a key bridge between Russia and the annexed Crimean Peninsula that is prized by the Kremlin.

It is a war. All targets are relevant.

    ….

In case you’re wondering, as I did, how my punishment for tweeting about Toobin compares to Toobin’s suspension for his offense, I can tell you. He was off air for eight months; I was off for seven. One month was the difference between punishment for jacking off at work versus commenting on the inadvisability of jacking off at work.

On one hand, the people who made this call about me are gone from the network, so maybe I could let it lie. But on the other hand, many of my colleagues no doubt knew about my banning from air, but not the reasons behind it, thereby leaving the impression I must have done something tantamount to Toobining. I did not.”

I don’t think there’s any doubt the Ukes are fighting a defensive war. The Crimean bridge is a legit military target in a defensive war, as it is a vulnerable logistical choke point for the Russian invasion of southern Ukraine. I think the Russians have pretty much already escalated anyway, what with their mobilization and annexation of the Donbas. About the only thing left for the Russians to escalate to is nukes.

I also made clear that when Russia made this move, the United States and our allies and partners would impose swift and severe costs on individuals and entities – inside and outside of Russia – that provide political or economic support to illegal attempts to change the status of Ukrainian territory…

We will hold to account any individual, entity, or country that provides political or economic support for President Putin’s illegal attempts to change the status of Ukrainian territory. In support of this commitment, the Departments of the Treasury and Commerce are releasing new guidance on heightened sanctions and export control risks for entities and individuals inside and outside of Russia that support in any way the Kremlin’s sham referenda, purported annexation, and occupation of parts of Ukraine.

South Florida residents, who endured a couple of no-shit race riots as a result of Cuban-cop-on-black violence, can confirm that our Spanish-speaking neighbors from multiple points south have little use for American-born black people.

  27. Rebel Scum

It’s a feint so they can make up some bs on Trump and say “See? We are just applying the law here.”

Apparently, someone in the FBI was frustrated enough that they leaked to the Washington Post that evidence supporting criminal prosecution of Hunter Biden, son of President Biden, has been submitted to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Delaware in support of prosecution and that it was done some time ago.

The leaked allegation includes a prosecution recommendation for federal tax fraud in addition to charges related to alleged false statements relative to Biden’s purchase of a gun.

According to the Washington Post, federal prosecutors are carefully reviewing and weighing the evidence before going ahead with a decision to prosecute or quite possibly decline prosecution.

Is this normal and why is it taking so long? Is this a function of the political delicacy of possibly prosecuting the son of a sitting president?

A short review of the protocol for criminal tax prosecution recommendations might be informative.

    • Ownbestenemy

I think that leak is why they trotted out Biden to announce the pardon of ‘simple MJ possession’ charges. Worked too…
