Adios, Yankees!

The Astros and Phillies will play for the world championship.  Yay!!! That’s it for sports.

UNION STRONG! This should be the end of that cabal, but it won’t be.  In fact, nobody will be held accountable.

Pay attention to me!!! On a related note, they did the same to a Jackson Pollock piece but nobody realized it for a week.

“I’ll (not) be back.”

Damn it, I wanted this so bad. Just to watch the heads explode. Oh well, I guess I’ll support the lettuce.

What a weird story. There will be no happy ending once the facts come out.

Yeah, please choose this hill to die on. Maybe he’s hoping a lot of boys transition so he’s got more hair to sniff.

Yikes. This is why I’m a Jimmy Dean guy.

Welcome to San Francisco!

12th verse, same as the first! I know I sound like a broken record. It’s not my fault they’re failing.

That’s some fine parole work there, Lou. Bunch of idiots. These are the people who should be rotting in jail cells for a long time.

This is the song of the day for me. Sorry for the late links. And here’s another one. Enjoy them.

And enjoy this Monday, dear friends

I hope the newer poling is accurate showing GOP up in a lot of taxes or at least competitive

My suspicion is that the liars have to stop pretending team blue has not destroyed everything and turned off everyone doing so, in order to make sure they are not so far from the actual results that people catch on to the game. And even though there will be attempts to fortify, it looks like it will be much harder to do for team blue, so they are not going to be able to overcome the margin.

      • Lackadaisical

It is interesting how polls seem to change a lot right before the elections. And that is very consistent.

I wonder if it is people just getting more serious about thinking about the election or another effect like push polling.

      • AlexinCT

I actually got called by Quinnipiac last night on my land line to poll me… The questions were heavily rigged bull, but you could spot and avoid the baloney to help you pick the choice they wanted. Of course, the interview ended with the young lady doing the questions asking me about my race – I told her I belonged to the human race – and then for how I identified. She didn’t like it when I told her I identified as her daddy and that I wanted to spank her for being a bad girl.

Bet you I am gonna get calls every night this week from more young ladies doing polls…

      • Sean

Awww. the last one I answered was just an automated one.

‘Bet you I am gonna get calls every night this week from more young ladies doing polls…’

Those call girls can be persistent.

I guffawed, felt a little sorry for her, and then thought anyone working on that side, even if it’s ‘just a job’ probably deserves it anyway. Hm.

      • Rat on a train

I normally don’t participate in polls. Although I charge reasonable rates polling firms don’t want to pay.

    • Pat

I’m not sure if taxing is technically a competitive sport yet, but if and when the time comes, I’m sure they’ll be in the running for the top spot.

They’re definitely competitive on spending… Which eventually leads to the same thing, or maybe worse, inflation like we’re experiencing now.

Gov. Kathy Accident just put out a commercial farcically claiming she cares about crime and that her “reforms” are working. It is the first time I have seen a Dem campaign ad nattering on about something other than abortion.

That tells me she’s scared shitless.

      • UnCivilServant

I suspect no one is going to believe the ad.

    • Pope Jimbo

      Minnesoda Poll Pr0n

The biggest shift in attitudes may have come in the metro area suburbs, where more people in the October survey said the state and country is on the wrong track and views on several Democrats, including Walz and Ellison, plummeted since the June poll of likely voters.

In the June poll, Walz had a +2 net job approval rating. In the October survey, that fell to -22. More people also viewed Ellison unfavorably, an increase from 45% in June to 58% in October.

      • Pope Jimbo

This poll was done for the local proggies, so the fact that it came out so badly must mean that things are really bad. But the pollsters are flummoxed as to why the ingrates aren’t thanking the DFL for their lives getting so much better. Must be the sneaky GOP who tilted the polls!!

The worse rating for Democrats and the gloomier outlook for the state and country came even as metro suburban residents polled reported a better, though still negative, economic picture. For instance, 68% of those surveyed in October said their income was falling behind the cost of living, which was down from 77% in June. And 52% said gas prices were difficult for them in October, which is also down from 61% in June.

One reason for such a large swing could be the high margin of error of +/- 7 percent in the suburbs. It’s the smallest sample of the three major regions in the poll.

“Part of this is inevitably due to just the sample looking a little bit different,” said Embold’s Ben Greenfield, who managed the poll. “The sample in the metro area just looked a little bit more Republican this time. That has effects on the answers that we saw for basically all of the questions.”

Alonso was his usual kick-ass self, coming back from a near major wreck like that.

Red Bull continues to be annoying as hell with their car that just has 3 seconds a lap more pace consistently. And on tires that should have degraded faster. Hamilton had to drive his tires into the ground just to try to hold on to the lead — and Verstappen just got to cruise on past once the Mercedes tires went. My assumption is that aero is just incredibly important this year and they’ve got it right. The evil little part in the back of my brain wonders just how much of the current regs were written to cripple Mercedes because people were sick of them dominating…..

      There, that satisfy ya? 😉

      • The Last American Hero

Everyone had brand new cars. Mercedes adopted a bad engineering strategy this year, and the spending cap prevented them from just building a brand new car during the season. The teams that used the same strategy also struggled early with the porpoises.

UNION STRONG! This should be the end of that cabal, but it won’t be. In fact, nobody will be held accountable.

isn’t that last statement I have emphasized why we are facing the onslaught of stupid & evil from the left today? They are championing changes to our system that will completely do away with any kind of meritocracy specifically because those systems prove problematic in also demanding accountability. And it is being done to both protect these crooks from repercussions of their downright criminal behaviors to enrich themselves at the cost of the people, and to give their mongrel offspring idiots a leg up over others.

    • Pope Jimbo

      • UnCivilServant

I suspect there is a duty to retreat.

Though I am of the mind that intruders should be fair game.

      • Rat on a train

It’s Maryland. There is probably a duty to aid.

      • EvilSheldon

Maryland is a duty to retreat state.

While it sounds awful, there is little practical difference than in a ‘stand your ground’ state. The duty to retreat only applies if you can retreat in safety, which literally never happens in a real self-defense encounter.

      • UnCivilServant

New York is a duty to retreat state – and they will prosecute the fuck out of you for defending yourself, regardless of circumstances.

      • EvilSheldon

I’m curious if you have any particular examples in mind, or if this is just generally accepted NY State lore. Not trying to be an asshole, I’m genuinely curious. One hears of very few self defense cases out of NY.

      • Count Potato

Remember the bodega thing from a month or so ago?

      • UnCivilServant

It was part of the seminars on firearms laws I had attended. I do not have cases to cite, but I also haven’t gone looking.

      • UnCivilServant

After I hit post, I did remember the incident Count Potato brought up.

      • Semi-Spartan Dad

Massad Ayoob discussed several cases in an interview I listened too maybe 8 years ago. I recall him definitely mentioning NY self defense victims being charged with weapons violations (I think discharge of firearm in city limits, etc) even when the self defense usage was found justified. I mean really the height of absurdity type stuff. Although he said those types of charges for the self-defense victim are dwindling.

He discussed one case in particular, I think it was NY, where a mechanic was charged with murder for killing a thief breaking into his shop overnight. Apparently, the thief had broken in several times so the mechanic decided to sleep there at night with a shotgun. That was viewed as failing his duty to retreat. Of course, the 911 recording of the mechanic saying “I got him, I got him, I finally got the son of a bitch” didn’t help either.

      • EvilSheldon

The Bodega incident might not be a great example. I seem to remember that a number of authorities on 2A and self-defense law had some doubts about that one. I’ll have to dig through YouTube this evening…

      • AlexinCT

More important, what’s the mortgage lender’s take on this. Are they going to still demand the people with the mortgage pay up even though the stupid shit lets others squat? That can’t be right.

      • Lackadaisical

I’m sure they expect their money, this problem has nothing to do with them. (I presume)

    • SDF-7

Giving them the entire benefit of the doubt that their “lease” isn’t complete made up bullpucky, I think calling them “squatters” (until that’s established) is a little much. Entirely possible they’re also proceeding from good faith and someone at the back got confused and thought they could lease the property when a different part of the bank was selling it. Definitely needs to be sorted out, and my sympathies for the new owners — but it isn’t quite the “Should show up with sheriffs and/or shotguns” that the headlines implies.

      • UnCivilServant

Banks don’t tend to lease out foreclosed properties that they are selling. The property management business is a royal pain, and if they’re already moving it off the books, they’re not going to wade into that morass.

I suspect the lease is a fraud either by the person who got foreclosed upon or by the squatters. Either way, it doesn’t have any enforcable value. It is definately a forcable eviction situation.

      • SDF-7

I strongly suspect you’re right — I’m just saying that it looks more like a “get the contract lawyers involved to sort it out” versus “threaten the meth-head druggies who decided this was a good place to shoot up” scenario.

  12. Lackadaisical

The White House has deployed thousands of American soldiers just miles from Ukraine to prepare for war, according to CBS News. Officers speaking with the outlet revealed they were there for combat against Russia.

Brigadier General John Lubas confirmed nearly 5,000 troops from the 101st Airborne recently joined the 100,000 American soldiers already deployed to Europe. Lubas described his troops as being on “full deployment,” and they are preparing to fight Russian soldiers in Ukraine. “This is not a training deployment, this is a combat deployment for us. We understand we need to be ready to fight tonight,” he said.

      • Shiny Nerfherder

        Empire

      • Semi-Spartan Dad

Because Western Europe is essentially a vassal state of the US. Same with Japan, South Korea, and much of South America (watching Narcos was a big revelation to me about the extent that the US controlled Columbia). And now apparently Ukraine. We may see soon about Taiwan.

Except instead of receiving tribute from these vassals, the politicians on both sides loot Americans to pay for all this. The vassal state politicians pocket some of the cash coming in and get to redirect money from their own taxpayers away from defense and to social agendas.

      • Lackadaisical

To keep the he Russians out?

    Tough negotiations

The White House sharply rebutted Russia’s accusations Sunday that Ukraine is preparing to use a dirty bomb on its own territory and then blame Moscow.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the National Security Council called Russia’s allegations of a possible false flag operation by Ukraine “transparently false” and accused Moscow of making the claim to lay the groundwork for its own escalation of the war.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has made the claim of Ukraine’s possibly using a dirty bomb in phone calls with several Western defense ministers, including U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Shoigu is using the calls to spin “stories about the so-called ‘dirty’ nuclear bomb.”

Austin spoke with Shoigu for 30 minutes Sunday, a U.S. official said. After they had not spoken for about five months, it was the second time they had talked in the past 48 hours. Austin called Shoigu on Friday. The brief readout said Austin emphasized the importance of maintaining lines of communication.

How do the Russians keep from laughing when Austin puts on his tough guy act?

    • Shiny Nerfherder

“EXCLUSIVE: Cambridge University cancels Homerton College’s annual Harry Potter-themed dinner as furious students claim event was scrapped in ‘woke’ protest at JK Rowling’s views on trans issues

For several years, Homerton College has held the Hogwarts ‘formal’ dinners in its iconic wood-panelled Great Hall, with students and staff in costume, house banners for Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, and even real owls from a local sanctuary swooping over the long tables.

Yesterday, Formula 1 racing held the U.S. Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas near Austin, Texas. There was the usual amount of drama for an F1 race — a couple of wrecks, a couple of passes overtakes, but the lowlight of the afternoon might have been the appearance of Reyna Roberts.

“Who’s she?” you might ask. She’s a country music singer entertainer who was chosen by race organizers to warble the national anthem. Unfortunately for all involved, Ms. Roberts performed sans autotune. Go ahead, give it a listen. C’mon, do it… it’ll build character.

    • SDF-7

      I’ll pass.

One thought on watching qualifying and the start of the race — I’m frankly stunned they let the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders and ones I assume were University of Texas (Longhorns… don’t remember which school that is) perform for the crowd.

After they got rid of grid girls and got all woke I assumed such things would be verboten from now on.

Also off topic — does anyone know if they did a military flyby like they do in Europe? I mean, NASCAR gets to do it (I think Indy may as well), and if nothing else, we have a hell of a lot more (and more interesting) planes and all. I would have loved to see a F-22 flyby followed by a set of B-1Bs and a B-2 if they could swing one.

      • UnCivilServant

        Nah, they should use B-17s.

    • Lackadaisical

Meh, certainly not the greatest singer, but I’ve heard worse performances of our national anthem. At least she didn’t try and fail to overdo it.

In case anyone thought Brussels wasn’t a giant bag of assholes.

After growing international criticism, Josep Borrell, the European Union’s outspoken foreign policy chief, has apologized (sort of) for making controversial remarks in which he described Europe as an idyllic “garden” of order where the rule of law prevails and the rest of the world as mostly a “jungle” of corruption where “might makes right.” But Borrell also stood by the remarks, emphasizing that he didn’t mean to come across as racist and arguing that he’s not the first to use the garden/jungle metaphor so everyone should cut him some slack.

“The vacancy rate is going to continue to creep up over the next couple of quarters because demand remains subdued right now and that all relates to the uncertainty around the economy and the amount of space companies need,” said Colin Yasukochi, CBRE’s Executive Director of Tech Insights.

Mayor London Breed spoke about her concerns with the city’s high office vacancy rate last week in an interview with Bloomberg News. The remote work policies of tech companies are part of the problem, Breed said. She pointed to Salesforce as an example. “[Marc is] very supportive of the city, continues to contribute that support to schools and to other great causes, but the building is empty, and that’s a real problem,” Breed said.

There is no way they’re going to convince everyone to take that massive pay cut in order commute every day again.

Gotta get the little people to invest in commercial real estate ETFs before they tank the sector.

      • Nephilium

Local news has been talking about the empty buildings quite a bit, especially since those cities are now getting cut off from taxing the workers who used to work in those office buildings. The suburbs on the other hand, are loving it, as they get all the resident taxes instead of sharing them with the cities the people worked in.

      • UnCivilServant

The solution is to ban income taxes.

      • rhywun

I still have to pay Jersey taxes even though I don’t set foot there anymore.

*shrugs* The total amount is the same so what do I care.

      • Nephilium

Here the difference can be as high as 3% depending on the cities involved. The city you work in takes a cut, and the city you live in does as well. Most of the cities allow some reciprocity that will cover a certain amount of the city you live in.

    • Lackadaisical

‘It would be a shame if something happened to your business, Marc.’

That kindly support ends when companies leave the state and can no longer be extorted. San Fransisco will become an even bigger gaping wound than Chicago. I am still amazed that people can’t look around at these big cities rotting from the inside and not think “Gee, what do those places have in common?”

    Whaaaaat?

The voting rights organization founded by Stacey Abrams spent more than $25 million over two years on legal fees, mostly on a single case, with the largest amount going to the self-described boutique law firm of the candidate’s campaign chairwoman.

Allegra Lawrence-Hardy, Abrams’ close friend who chaired her gubernatorial campaign both in 2018 and her current bid to unseat Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, is one of two named partners in Lawrence & Bundy, a small firm of fewer than two dozen attorneys.

The firm received $9.4 million from Abrams’ group, Fair Fight Action, in 2019 and 2020, the last years for which federal tax filings are available. Lawrence-Hardy declined to comment on how much her firm has collected from Fair Fight Action in 2021 and 2022 — years in which Fair Fight Action v. Raffensperger, for which Lawrence-Hardy was lead counsel, had most of its courtroom activity.

Fair Fight Action has maintained that the suit — which ended last month when a federal judge ruled against the group on all three remaining claims — served an important role in drawing attention to voting inequities. But some outside the group questioned both the level of expenditures devoted to a single, largely unsuccessful legal action and the fact that such a large payout went to the firm of Abrams’ close friend and campaign chair. Those concerns were heightened by the fact that Abrams’ national campaign against voter suppression galvanized the Democratic Party, many of whose top donors helped fill its coffers.

It’s not money laundering. It’s the noble pursuit of justice.

The case, and the organization that spawned it, was at the cutting edge of Abrams’ nationwide drive to expand voter access, a cause that made her a rising star among liberals and an alleged victim of GOP efforts to limit participation, especially among minorities. Abrams, a Democrat, created Fair Fight Action shortly after her loss to Kemp, a Republican, in the 2018 gubernatorial race, by a narrow margin of 50.2 to 48.8. Afterward, she claimed that thousands of voters, a disproportionate number of whom were people of color, were effectively disenfranchised by overly restrictive voting rules. Within days of her loss, she committed herself to a massive effort to expose voter suppression, galvanizing many Democratic donors and activists.

That’s not election denialism. It’s merely a healthy and honest desire for clarity regarding who votes and how those votes are collected and counted.

Shoot them in the head/neck. Between the feathers and the meat, shooting them anywhere else is likely to not work. I’ve seen pellets at range (30 odd yards) literally bounce off. If you shoot them in the body with anything other than birdshot, you’re likely to not have much meat left.

Take the breast meat, toss the rest. The dark meat is nearly inedible.

Brine the breast meat, and cook it like normal. It’s very similar to domestic turkey, maybe a hair drier?

      • Pine_Tree

I don’t think a hair drier will get hot enough to make sure the meat is cooked all the way through.

No sportz? What about the upcoming ‘Balls Out Naked Cosmic Bowling’ Night?

Crafton Ingram Lanes in Pittsburgh is hosting a ‘Balls Out Bowling Naked Cosmic Bowling Night’

The event is being hosted by the Pittsburgh Area Naturists and will be held on Sunday, October 23 from 4:00 PM- 7:00 PM.

Pittsburgh Area Naturists say that nudity is required (with the exception that women can wear bottoms) and they suggest bringing a bag to secure belongings.

All genders and sexualities are welcome but sexual activity is not condoned.

    • R.J.

You still have to wear bowling shoes. You’ll just stick on the line otherwise.

CBS gets an exclusive sneak peak: “The US Army’s 101st Airborne is practicing for war with Russia just miles from Ukraine’s border”

“It’s not just about defending NATO territory,” correspondent @charliecbs reports. “They’re fully prepared to cross over into Ukrainian territory”

Based on what I have been reading (“How can [unpatriotic Company X] do [unpatriotic Thing Y], in time of war?”), we’re already at war with Russia. The announcements just got delayed in the mail, I guess.

One of the six panelists was TikTok star Dylan Mulvaney who is documenting their transition from a male to trans woman.

I thought he was transitioning to a girl? Being a trans woman was too common place for him.

BREAKING: Just Stop Oil activists have thrown custard pies into the face of King Charles’s waxwork at London’s Madame Tussauds. More follows…

    Much brave.

      ASBO them.

The funny part is that the idiot King Charles agrees with them.

    Or Singapore.

Actually, a severe caning might do them a world of good.

  57. The Late P Brooks

I just had an inspiration. Any time protestors glue or chain themselves to something, some entrepreneur should show up with a “caning booth” and charge a per-whack fee for passers-by to give them a swat with something thin and whippy like a carbon fiber fly rod.

    • PieInTheSky

Do you know how long it takes to get the proper permits for that?

Permits? We don’t need no stinkin permits!

I am fond of putting a curtain around them labeled “Toilet” and covering them with a plastic urinal.

A grizzly bear attacked a college wrestler in Wyoming. His buddy, also a wrestler, then jumped on the bear. Incredible story:

    https://twitter.com/NickKristof/status/1584302216672071680

“Before this attack, I had thought that I could take on a bear easily… Now I know that a bear is pretty legit. They are tougher, stronger and bigger than I thought. It’s not so easy.”

reminded me of that graph in whihc like 30% of Americans thought they could take a grizzly while 60% of brits thought they would lose to a house cat

      • B.P.

“He had seen grizzly scat on previous hikes, but it wasn’t close to the level they were seeing Saturday.”

      Damn.

Lucky kids. A guy I know got attacked out there a few years ago. Got ahead of the group and surprised two bears. No bueno.

    Market research

Some $84 trillion is expected to be passed from one generation to the next within the next 20 years. And that’s just in the United States.

But 41% of those currently holding onto this cash do not have a plan for how they’ll pass on their wealth to younger generations, according to a report from UBS.

While the 4,500 investors from 14 regions, who each have over $1 million worth of assets, surveyed by the Swiss bank might be thinking about how to divide their money and investments, in many cases there isn’t a concrete plan.

“Even after the harsh realities of the pandemic, many investors simply aren’t taking the actions necessary to ensure successful wealth transfer,” the research dated Oct. 19 found.

    “Don’t leave that loot unprotected.”

If Obama was the world’s best gun salesman, Biden, Warren, Sanders and the rest of the mobsters will likely turn out to be a gold mine for financial advisors.

With the higher interest rates, are US pension funds going to start returning to solvency or are they too far gone (meaning their managers will be the last to replace equities with government bonds)?

    • R C Dean

If the benefits are inflation-adjusted, then no, the higher rates probably won’t do much. In fact, in the shortish run, higher rates now means their existing bond portfolio is worth less, so it could make things worse.

  61. The Late P Brooks

“While investors overwhelmingly want the inheritance process to go smoothly, inadequate inheritance planning can be costly and could lead to unresolved family conflict,” he commented.

Forty percent of those who inherited assets regretted not having conversations about wealth with their family beforehand, the research found. A third of them reported conflicts with siblings or other family members about how to split up the money or about questions like “who gets the house?”

There is a solution though. The survey found that both those giving and those inheriting assets are keen to open conversations and create a more formal plan about investments moving from one generation to the next.

Call now to speak with a representative.

  62. creech

Just talked to my GOP insider in Penna. Dr. FrankenOz is tied with Festerman in the Senate race, according to the GOP’s internal polls. Our next Gauleiter Shapiro is like 15 points ahead of Scaryiano and the GOP has essentially pulled all funding for his campaign. (Shaprio had something like $40 million raised to Mastriano’s $2 million) GOP is hoping to defeat the Dem incumbent (Wild) up in the Lehigh Valley, but no other PA congressional seats look changeable. He says the word nationally is GOP will pick up at least 25 House seats and are cautiously optimistic in netting one new Senate seat. Goodbye Nancy and Chucky and – for all practical purposes – Kommie and Dr. Jill’s husband.

    • Sean

We survived Wolf. I’d be pleased as punch to see Wild get tossed on her ass.

    • MikeS

are cautiously optimistic in netting one new Senate seat.

Good grief. It should be a blood bath. Stupid party, indeed.

    • rhywun

I heard Zeldin and Kathy are now tied for NY guv’nuh. That would be an upset for the ages. Though to be fair, she’s worse the Cuomo and not just in the way the left likes.

      • Lackadaisical

I don’t believe that for a second. She’ll win by at least 5 points.

      • UnCivilServant

If the polls (which have a strong dem bias at the best of times) have them tied, I suspect he’s ahead with real voters. The question is the margin of fraud.

    • Lackadaisical

‘for all practical purposes – Kommie and Dr. Jill’s husband.’

Heh, you’re really optimistic. As much as I want to see Republicans hat some pickups, they’re sure to find some compromises they’d be glad to put their names on.

      • R.J.

I am a realist. I fully understand the Republicans and just as stupid and prone to fits of authoritarianism. But I am rooting them on because I wish gridlock. Gridlock mans neither side gets to push us around. I see no saviors in government, only devils.
