I was a Pub denizen for 15 years until the smoking ban came into effect. The number of pubs and bars are less than half of where they were. If I can’t have a smoke with my overpriced beverages while feeding quarters into your pool tables then you can just sit and spin. I’ve been to a local maybe twice since. Used to be a fun way to socialize.
There are few that still allow it at your table. Most have a smoking booth or no smoking anywhere.

Our work PCs are set up to open Teams automatically when you log on, even though it gets minimal use by anyone on any given day. Then it takes forever to close at the end of the day, and says, “Are you sure you want to close?” Yes, I want to close! I didn’t want to open it in the first place!
The only feature that works decently is the instant messenger. The problem is people keep trying to use the other ‘features’ in the program that are not as good as any of the dedicated applications which perform the same function but not shittily. No, I do not want to have a teams voice call, the audio is wonky as fuck and the interface won’t let me change connection options. No, I don’t want to use it as a document repository, we have six million better ways to share documents – why did you put that there, [redacted]? Why are there six dozen different settings screens accessed from eight dozen different points in the application, with no overlap in what they configure?
Our computer-based phone system has an IM feature folks are more likely to use…except for that one person who insists on sending IMs via Teams because “all employees have access to Teams, but not all have their own phone extension” (i.e. tellers.) So they send an IM in Teams and wonder why I don’t see it for hours.

The IT folks I work with most of the time use email or Teams IM for communication depending on how official something is. If it’s casual, it’s an IM. If it’s official and might need to be referenced, it’s an email. If it’s really official, it’s a ticket to go along with the email.

I found no ice on my sidewalk, so I concluded the roads were not icy either, and my commute proved that conclusion right. So I’m in the office, though I’d love to have stayed home.

Milley is calling for negotiations. It’s obvious that the DOD is not fully on board with the neocons at State.
Their apparent plan is to turn Ukraine into a wasteland by dragging out this war as long as possible in order to weaken Russia without broadening the conflict into the rest of Europe. It’s as cynical and dangerous a gambit as I think I’ve ever seen and I am ashamed of my country for it.

It’s 8 to 5 now. Lots of people slow-roll the start but I don’t.
But I will if they demand I return to the office because I won’t happily get up an hour and a half earlier than I do now.
I don’t blame you, I have a hard enough time getting out the door by six when I have to commute. (It doesn’t take an hour to get to the office for me, but I leave extra time in just in case)
