She describes being soaking wet, covered in oil, dripping blood. “At what point are we just going to blow feathers on me, because this is getting ridiculous!”

    I’ll volunteer to help.

    • Zwak tastes the soup, but never counts the beans.

With which? The feathers, the oil, the blood…

As Danish Prime Minister, he declared in 2015, “I know that some people in the U.S. associate the Nordic model with some sort of socialism. Therefore, I would like to make one thing clear. Denmark is far from a socialist planned economy. Denmark is a market economy.

In the strictest sense it would be inaccurate to call Denmark “socialist,” but it would be an equal stretch to describe it as a free market. No-fee state-funded public universities, no-fee state-funded public health care, high personal and corporate income taxes, they even still have a state church tax. This is an example of that annoyance I’ve expressed before around these parts about free marketeers playing their own version of tHat wAsN’T rEaL sOciALiSm! If Denmark is climbing above the US in economic freedom indexes on account of its market economy, you have to acknowledge that it’s doing so while also eschewing the economic policy you support, and removing large swaths of its national economy from market mechanisms by putting them under direct control of the state.

    • KK the Porcine Pearl-Eater

Yep. Any country with even quasi-nationalized industries ain’t no market economy

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Denmark’s corporate tax rate is 22%, which is lower than the US. They really sock it to you on personal income tax and VAT (25%).

      • Pat

Federal corporate rate is 21% but most states add their own as well, which can push it above Denmark’s 22%.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Yeah, the data I’m looking at shows the US at 25.8%, which I assume is some average based on federal and state.

It’s once again a Friday, and while I sit here recovering from Bruce-O-Rama and dealing with more training that is… not the most strenuous for me, I’ll be home. So at 2000 Eastern (as is tradition), the Zoom/Happy Hour/Editorial room will be started. I may not be around tomorrow, as BrewDog is doing their AGM (Annual General Mayhem, aka stockholder’s meeting) tomorrow. Next week I will definitely not be around, as I’ll be dressed up all fancy out in Vegas.

        Speaking of which….

The Onion is actually sort of funny

MINNEAPOLIS—Telling the legions of supporters that he couldn’t have done it without them, Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf reportedly thanked fans Thursday for their countless years of supporting the team through tax breaks. “While the Vikings have had their ups and downs just like any football team, your state and city taxes have been with us through it all, and my hat is off to you,” said Wilf, adding that his mood brightened when he walked into U.S. Bank Stadium and took in every penny of the $498 million in public funding used in its construction. “Ever since 2011, when I ended the team’s lease on the Metrodome and threatened to move the Vikings out of Minnesota unless I got a publicly financed stadium deal I liked, it’s been heartwarming to see how Minnesotans keep coming out year after year to pour their hard-earned money into my government subsidies. This is one of the best fan bases in the country, I’ve always said, and there’s no better fan than the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, which always gives us 110% fiscal support. I’m looking forward to our home opener in September and seeing all those public dollars flooding into the stadium once again.” At press time, Wilf announced that he was moving the Vikings to St. Louis.

*That is it. Pretty much the entire story.

I was wondering how long that would take. Leave it to you to do the honors, Pontiff.

I have thanked my husband profusely because he dun good.

      • Pope Jimbo

I did some training where half the group was from Minnesoda and the other half was from England.

One day one of the Minnesoda gals came back from lunch with her husband and said “Uffda I am so stuffed”. All the limeys were stunned for a few seconds then they started laughing and it came out that our stuffed is not the same as their definition.

The Minnesoda gal (who was stereotypically blonde and pale) turned bright, bright red. Pretty funny.

How opposite-think took over our politics

We live in a time of opposite-think, a topsy-turvy era in which truths become distorted and inverted. Words refer to the reverse of what they once did, and most things are no longer what they seem. Ours is a woke epoch in which women can have penises and being colourblind is racist. In which ‘diversity’ is now code for ‘uniformity’, and ‘inclusivity’ means being inclusive only of people who agree with you. Uttering obvious untruths is now commonplace. Upending reality has been normalised.

At least that’s what I argued on spiked this time last year. So, 12 months on, how have matters transpired? Have we since started to return to normality? Or have we sunk further into the mendacious, fantastical quagmire?

Recent newspaper headlines suggest that opposite-think is here to stay. At the weekend, it was reported that employees at Monzo, the online bank, used an internal forum to mock a man who had questioned the firm’s transgender policies. The policies were announced in November to coincide with transgender-awareness week. They included describing maternity leave as ‘primary-caregiver leave’, having gender-neutral lavatories and urging staff to declare their pronouns.

On LinkedIn, a gay marketing professional not employed by Monzo voiced his disagreement with these policies. ‘I’m not sure this feels like an inclusive place for LGB [lesbian, gay and bisexual] colleagues / women who don’t subscribe to gender ideology’, he wrote. He then noticed that a number of Monzo staff had been looking at his LinkedIn profile. So he made a subject-access request to find out what data the bank held on him. This was when he saw what was said about him on Monzo’s internal forum.

One Monzo employee described the man as a ‘horrible TERF’ – a slur thrown at those who believe in biological sex, short for ‘trans-exclusionary radical feminist’. Another staff member named the man’s employer and then added: ‘Bet their culture is really fantastic if this is the person leading it.’ One more concluded: ‘I see he used the old “women’s rights are under threat” chestnut.’

This episode shows opposite-think at work on two levels. Firstly, we have Monzo flaunting its adherence to a now dominant trans ideology. In its denial of biology, this ideology is intrinsically opposed to reality itself. Secondly, there is the irony of the intolerant, self-righteous anger of those who think of themselves as ‘progressive’. A spokesperson for Monzo responded to the reports: ‘We pride ourselves on having an inclusive and diverse culture.’ Presumably, this was meant to deflect from the obnoxious comments made by those Monzo employees. Of course, these days it is precisely those who say they believe in ‘inclusivity and diversity’ who are the most vile. Their sense of moral superiority gives them licence to behave as they please. It’s the ‘inclusive’ who are invariably the most eager to exclude.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

I’m not a religious man, but I pray for the day trans freaks have lost their usefulness.

    Taser! Taser! Taser!

Former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter is set to be released from prison next week, after serving 16 months behind bars for the killing of Daunte Wright.

Records show Potter is set to leave prison on Monday. A new photo shows Potter looking significantly changed since entering prison in December 2021.

Potter was sentenced to two years behind bars after being convicted of second-degree manslaughter in Wright’s death. When released, she will serve the remaining months of her sentence on supervised release.

#TooLocal version AOC has filed an ethics complaint against a GOP legislator for having the temerity to email her a link to a video.

A DFL state senator from Apple Valley has filed an ethics complaint against GOP Sen. Glenn Gruenhagen for sending an email containing video that Gruenhagen described as “graphic and disturbing” images of gender affirmation surgeries on minors.

In an interview, Maye Quade, of Apple Valley, said she forwarded Gruenhagen’s email to a lawyer and did not click the link he provided. She said Gruenhagen, who lives in Glencoe, should face “consequences for this wildly inappropriate behavior.”
“I just want him to acknowledge that this is wrong and it is not OK no matter how you feel about a subject,” Maye Quade said. “They’ve dehumanized trans children so much that in his mind this was an appropriate thing to do.”

Gruenhagen said he’s disappointed that Maye Quade filed a complaint without trying to resolve it with him. He noted that his email included a warning to colleagues about “disturbing and graphic” imagery and that he left it up to them to decide whether to click the link.

The video was created by the University of Louisville as “a tutorial for gynecologists to familiarize themselves with a male-to-female gender transition surgery, even if they don’t perform this surgery, to understand caring for a transgender patient. It was also informational for our members,” his statement said.

    Nailing Jello to a tree

But now that McCarthy has released the legislation, some members of his own party have not been fully on board — and in light of that, Ocasio-Cortez said Democrats should “definitely not” negotiate with McCarthy.

“Republicans are too much of a mess right now to do so,” she wrote in response to a question on the topic on her Instagram story.

“Republicans can’t even get their own party behind one plan, let alone both parties. Negotiating with that is like trying to nail jello to a tree. What is there to even negotiate?” she said.

“McCarthy is a mess,” she added. “Which of course is how this whole thing started. The situation is very concerning honestly because mess or not the GOP was elected to govern and they really cannot.”

But “If we cut one dollar of spending, millions will DIE!” is a perfectly legitimate negotiating stance.

    • Rat on a train

Republicans will bluster but cave for pinky-swear promises of future cuts. Americans don’t want to live within means.

      • Compelled Speechless

To be fair, Americans are constantly lied to about what “living within the means” actually means when it comes to the government. All the politicians and “trusted institutions” tell us that everything is hunky dory. The harder the liars lie, the more they are rewarded. It’s a fundamental problem with democracy.

      • Mojeaux

What inflation? That $6 dozen eggs is in your imagination. And even if it isn’t your imagination, just don’t eat eggs.

We need to have a conversation on what you want from government and who to stick the bill with.

  15. The Late P Brooks

Still, even if the bill passes the House, that’s probably as far as it will go. The Democratic-majority Senate would likely vote it down, and even if it made it through both houses of Congress, Biden would almost certainly veto the bill. And the president is not budging — he’s continuing to push for a clean debt-ceiling increase.

“Just two days ago, the Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy went to Wall Street to describe the MAGA economic vision: massive cuts to programs you count on, massive benefits protected for those at the top,” Biden wrote on Twitter on Wednesday. “Folks, it’s the same old trickle-down dressed up in MAGA clothing.”

The wealth of the nation is the property of the king, who may, by divine right, dispose of it as he pleases.

    • Rat on a train

People have come to rely on free shit. You can’t take that away.

      • B.P.

I agree, but you never know. In 2020-21, people had their livelihoods, education, recreation, church services, etc., taken away, and most people just shrugged. Maybe we need something fear-based. “Sorry, we had to use all of the money we were giving you to redirect the incoming asteroids and fight off a plague we created. And the printer is out of ink.”

      • R C Dean

True, but it came with a candy coating of free shit.

      • Compelled Speechless

“People have come to rely on free shit.”

Precisely. Creating dependency is entirely the point.

Well, three weeks ago today, some of you kind people encouraged me to write an article on pipe organs and their mechanisms. Part 1 (of 2) is currently scheduled for the 7PM CDT slot on Monday. (!!! or EEK!)
It wouldn’t have happened without Riven’s link, and Scruffy’s link, and your encouragement.
But it absolutely could not have happened without the help and guidance of Tonio.
If I can write an article, any of you can. Tonio will help you and guide you through the tools and process.
Glibs is a hungry beast and needs constant feeding. Get writing, people!
And thank you, it’s the first productive thing I’ve done in too long.

  17. Zwak , who will swing for the crime, in double time!

Tonight is the wife’s birthday. She is turning 49, so I have been informed that this is the last birthday. Well, in that case, I made reservations at the fancy restaurant in town: https://www.sybarisbistro.com/ and then, while turning matters over in my head, I decided that I need a good looking and well fitting sport coat. So, I went down to the fancy menswear store and dropped, after careful consideration, several hundred dollars on a piece of clothing I will wear only a handful of times in the future.

Do I feel like an idiot? Kinda. But the wife thinks it is beautiful, and I am at that point were things are not going to change much for me, either physically or sartorially. So, what the hell, lets do this. And, who knows, looking this good might get me somewhere. IYKWIMAITYD.

1,000 prisoners of war sunk by U.S.S. Sturgeon, U.S. submarine, on its fourth patrol. Unfortunately, “friendly fire” is a by-product of warfare. Sturgeon, on its 11th patrol, sunk a Jap troopship and took out 5,000 soldiers heading for Okinawa. Sturgeon, built in 1936, finished the war as a training ship out of New London, CT.
