White supremacists have more diversity than the Senate.
What really kills me isn’t that some lunatic fringe could push that, but that so many people are accepting it.
AWFLs are certainly on board, but I think most everyone else just rolls their eyes.
The Left is desperate to find racism (which is now “white supremacy”, just like “global warming” is now “climate change”). So they constantly fall for obvious hoaxes and ridiculous claims, such as the OK sign means white power.

I’ve never seen tomatoes in Chinese cooking.
I’ve seen them (little cherry tomatoes or grape tomatoes) as a Chinese “dessert”, with watermelon.
That sounds weird.
It seemed weird at the time, yes. But was good. They’re sweet/tart/acidic, and go with the watermelon, and are a light dessert. China (at least the South) doesn’t really do dessert, so fruit works.
And I’m from Georgia, so watermelon’s a thing here in the summer, of course – everybody likes it. Well, multiply that popularity by like 5x for what I saw in Dongguan. Old guys selling them off of corners and truck beds in the cities everywhere (except the oldsters are Chinese, not black, like here). Restaurants, fresh in the work cafeteria, etc.
yum?
Everybody wants the BBC
If passed, I predict an increase of sets bought in Ireland, if they don’t roll over too.
Ming Tea – “BBC”
Why would a company demand a big black cock button on all TV remotes? Not everyone is into that.
Pornhub disagrees with your assessment.
Probably makes more money than BBC anyway. They should have a dedicated button.
That hot take on Musk and Twitter is as twisted as anything you’d get from a lying lefty. Most of the takedown requests are to be in compliance with EU law/regulation and yes they come from the govts there.
Musk has been pretty clear on this. He either complies or Twitter gets banned.
Not sure what people expect him to do. The governments would love to ban Twitter so that a even more compliant alternative would arise.
Holy crap, those guys are too stupid to opine on anything.
I mean, I am all for the right to be wrong… But you have to be 11 kinds of stupid to think any of what they were discussing about Twitter has any basis in reality.
I mean, to take the time to have enough information to know about takedown notices from governments, you surely have to know that Twitter is the only one who *quit* obeying secret orders from the US security state.
So you are not only dishonest of you proclaim yourself a champion of free speech and point to Twitter as the problem while publishing on YouTube, you are unbelievably stupid as well.
Or lying. They don’t like that they can’t get away with lying on Twitter like they could before.
Minority white supremacists, a concept so stupid on its face that it served as the backbone for one of Chappell’s better sketches just 20 years ago. I’m sure there are some like Uncle Ruckus on The Boondocks but they’re very few and extremely far between.
Citation.
This same discussion has come up three or four times in the last week on Twitter and reddit. Every time, a bunch of lefties come out of the woodwork to proclaim that Chapell used to be funny before he became a right wing Nazi bigot.
In their defense, it’s harder to rub one out in those conditions. Not impossible, but definitely more difficult.

The authorities should take your advice.
They should immediately deport and ban the ungrateful bastards.

Well, you could go back to your private room.

Dozens march during ‘Wear Orange Survivor Walk’ for gun violence awareness
Yesterday two young guys had a table set up at the grocery; a banner announced Stop School Violence, caps folded fresh from the printer, tchotchkes to give away. They’re on the sidewalk, very pleasant, perfectly between where I always park and where I always take lunch after Saturday golf. I had my guesses about what Stop School Violence really means,
but I made no gestures and gave no notice in my standard mode that I inherited from my hillbilly heritage: ignoring everything because who cares and it’s nothing to me and minding my own business and where do I run if shots ring out and that first beer is going to be pure ecstasy and I’m only 20 paces away from my table and good I hope they don’t have music or a bullhorn during my Cubano.
They had their guesses about the old bearded redneck ambling their way from the 4×4, shared zero of their banter or plans or pleas with me, and I passed without so much as a nod. Others parked; some approached the table; some were approached from the table. A steady business in whatever they were selling proceeded.
I held tight to my guesses about What Stop School Violence really means. Two hours later I passed back to my truck, and they held tight to whatever they guessed about me. No nods or thoughts were exchanged. It was a perfect American day: every idiot doing what they want and leaving everyone else alone.
Guinness, a sandwich with a best friend, shade and a breeze, concealing a 45ACP within inches of some gun control flakes. Perfect American day.
So you are saying you are in favor of school violence.
Dude… He said he walked by in silence…
Silence is violence. Duh….
Of course he is saying he is in support of school violence.
Also OT, the deepest dive I’ve seen on Tesla’s HVAC. It’s integration I can’t see the traditional OEMs doing.
https://youtu.be/Dujr3DRkpDU
Warning, it’s long.
With silo’d engineering structures, I don’t see how anyone could do it, The level of integration between separate systems in the Tesla is exceedingly high.
It picks up heat everywhere it can. And also creates heat everywhere it can (ie stalling motors or running electronics inefficiently) and moves it.
It’s only because they completely control the hardware and software that this can be done.
They really are a tech company that happens to make cars.
I’ve felt it go the other way: the more silo’d the resources, the more dependent we became on shared modeling, the better we understood each others’ space claims. And, of course, there’s some herr doctor something on some desk somewhere in charge of the coordination/integration; it’s his job to not let anyone enjoy their distance or independence or parochial goals too much.
When I started, you could stash a bale of sensimilla under the hood of a truck. With 3D modelling, everyone eventually somewhat filled up the spaces; it got to where you couldn’t get enough air through the radiator, trans cooler, charge air cooler, and condenser, to get the jobs done, and aerodynamics made that even worse. So then there had to be formal spaces, tacit chases and plenums of spaces claimed and designed between the parts…sometimes even formal ducting and little fans.
When I started, you could stash a bale of sensimilla under the hood of a truck.

He is seen preparing the customer’s order until he discovers that he may have lost something and grows frantic, as per police report.

The female customer is being represented by Merit Bennet of the Bennett Law Group who said they plan on submitting a claim once the reports are confirmed, the news outlet said.”

So she is suing over getting free cocaine?
Suing who? For what? Typically, you can only hold an employer responsible if the employee was acting within the scope of their responsibilities or there is some kind of actual negligence (or willful wrongdoing) by the employer.
I have no idea, but then why would she be represented by a lawyer if she’s just a witness in a criminal case?
She’s looking to sue.
Or she doesn’t want to be charged with purchase, possession, and/or consumption of cocaine. All of which she technically did do.
I think she would only be guilty of possession, if that.

“Meta has disputed claims that its CEO Mark Zuckerberg was knocked out during a Jiu-Jitsu fight last month after a referee ended the bout early and gave the win to his opponent.
The billionaire Facebook founder impressed martial arts fans and showcased his skills during his first ever Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament in Redwood City, California on May 6.
He proved he has serious grappling skills as picked up gold and silver medals but Zuckerberg was left frustrated in one fight after he was pinned down and the referee ended the match early.
The official later said he intervened because he started to snore which is a sign he was unconscious.
But Meta, Zuckerberg and his coach have come out to deny this and claim he was just grunting.”

Totally untraceable
What do people think the blockchain is? How do they think authentication of BitCoin happens?
And do they not grok that an electronic transfer of BitCoin is like any other electronic transaction that leaves a footprint? I mean, sure if you transfer from your cold wallet directly to somebody else’s cold wallet, then they have to go through the effort of unpacking the blockchain, but that’s doable if someone wants to burn the cycles to do so.
I’m no expert, but that’s my understanding.
Yes. Every bitcoin transaction is like passing around dollar bills and writing your name on the bill each time it comes into your possession. Bitcoin has uses, but secrecy isn’t one of them.
She apparently was aware of the $10k reporting threshold.

While I was at school, the proper way to get someone out of the way was to meet someone you found in the classifieds in the back of Soldier of Fortune magazine at a strip joint out on Chapman Highway. You just can’t trust the internet.
I was overpaid to keep an estate just down the road from the Manic Mouse or whatever he called his club, I can’t quite remember. I was overpaid to keep an estate just down the road from the Manic Mouse or whatever he called his club, I can’t quite remember.
Was the estate owned by a guy named Robin Masters?
The Ferrari 308 is pretty. But likely the shittiest one ever built.
Tesla’s HVAC
I’m a bit behind and still not interested in electric until serious range and solid infrastructure are in place, but I don’t object to others blazing that trail.
I’m not current, really, on HVAC. Indeed, Big Ugly finally died after 20 years, so I bought (you’ll be shocked) yet another Chevy truck and I have no idea about the HVAC. My guess is that it’s R-1234yf because that was ascending when I left the game, but I actually don’t know. I might even look around under the hood some day while I’m refilling the windshield juice, but I doubt.
Maybe five years too late, I realized I’m no longer the drive it forever kind of guy. Big Ugly was haunted, and I liked the company of those particular ghosts, but they went with that truck; I’m never going to lose my virginity or create novel major life memories in or adjacent to a car, so I’m out of the loving a car business. I’m driving this one until it needs new tires and then I’m trading it in; I’m not spending any more of my emotional energy or spare time on a car.
These new loony tunes refrigerants are likely to be tons of fun.
Tesla and GM on the C8 say you need to change the desiccant every 6 years. WTF for?
change the desiccant
Who knows. The standards and designs and presumptions change over the decades. When I was a child, greasing the car and changing the oil were kids’ jobs, so I did it. Eventually bearing (and highway) design and durability got to the point that they lasted so long that greasing them was no longer necessary, and, indeed, it was a bad idea to even have Zerks on them because half the idiots didn’t wipe them down before greasing so tons of dirt got gobbled up and slammed into the joint by the very act of greasing.
When I entered the business, I very proudly designed for service and worried about tool access and clearance and all that jazz. Eventually components lasted so long that service access didn’t matter: it was cheaper to focus on other things since the huge R&R costs for remote components became less frequent expenses. Times changed, and different things became more important.
VW started making disposable brake rotors (30 years ago?)? Why pay for turnable ones when you can make really good ones for cheap.
Maybe they install less desiccant now to reduce the size/weight of the receiver/accumulator? Maybe the low side operates at a deep vacuum, so more ambient moisture osmoses in over time?
I hate that everything is disposable.
Friend has a family member with a stone business. He lost to an accident one of his delivery trucks. It was early 2000s pre most emissions crap and he is gutted.
He’s hoping to buy the salvage and save it.
glider kits and engine reman are big business
Indeed, the OEM make gliders now (bring your own engine)
and Cummins probably remanufactures more engines than anyone: their own
so if your uncle pushed an old rig off in the holler behind the outhouse years ago because it’s too expensive to fix, it might be time to pull the kudzu off it, throw a chain on it, and drag it out: a 30 year old KTA600 with a cracked head might be worth something
Also, I’d like to have a classic to tinker with, but my daily is an appliance. That plan is unlikely to change.
Thats why I love POS Envoy™. Its there for what I need it to do*, I dont give a shit if it gets dinged in a parking lot, or muddy dog feets soil the Denali interior. She starts and runs, and with 4WD and a dual-range transfer case can yank a stump if needed. Re-charging the a/c in summer is just the cost of doing business.
The Camaro on the other hand…..sits pretty in the garage for 5 days a week.

I sware they only added AFM to detonate an otherwise indestructible motor. I had an ’01 Tahoe I sold running because it hit over 300k having never went into the motor and I have an ’09 Yukon with AFM that has had 2 sets of lifters in it’s 250k life.
Jebus – I swear
I’m not current, really, on HVAC.
First, check the thermostat.
I’m the opposite. 7 brand new cars over 20 years. The GTI is almost at a full 5 years now and I still love it and plan on keeping it longer.
I hit 50k last weekend, and that’s the most miles I ever put on a single vehicle.
If I don’t get 200K out of one, I get annoyed.
I’m probably more like 100K, but yeah. Although Mrs. Dean’s FJ is within 1,000 miles of rolling over 200K. I already have the 200K badge sitting in a drawer for that day.
I have 4 right now over 200k, and one of those is over 300k.
The squirrels don’t like my comment.
I’m not letting my Sonata (170,000 miles) go until it’s run into the ground or smashed in an accident, whichever comes first.
Now I’mma try my original comment.
Sonata at 170,000 miles how and have to get another tie-rod end. An Azera at 140,000 miles. A Ram at 380,000 miles, but that’s our going-to-Home-Depot and buying-things-off-Craigslist truck. We haven’t needed it since we moved houses, and even then it was in the shop.*
It had an only-the-dealer-can-fix-this problem. We were quoted $450. Fab, do it. Changed to $600. 😡 Okay. They had to wait forfuckingever for the part so we were moved by the time they got it fixed. Said, “Oh, turned out to be $1800. Our bad.” We said, “Fine, keep it. When do you want the title?” They let it go for the $600 quoted.
Libertarian comments sections get to have women who talk about tie rods and hard-nosed repair bill negotiations.
It would be interesting to see the Jezebel version of this thread.
“Have you ever considered that you might be a transman?”
I am sending this comment to my sister. She has a TIG welder in her shop that her husband not only can’t work, he has no idea what it is.
Also, the freaking lower control arms on the front suspension of my Nissan Quest gave out at 100k miles. What in the ever-loving hell is that? Also already had a transmission. And it ate front tires like potato chips.
Other than that…. A great vehicle.
Oh. Wait… The sun roof drain tubes clogged up and it was gonna cost double the book value in labor to fix.
Freaking little rubber tube clogging or collapsing. How incompetent is that?
It is funny how some people have zero luck with a brand, while others have zero issues with the same brand. I have owned half-dozen or more Nissan/Datsun vehicles over the years, and not an issue with them. Honda, on the other hand? Total POS’s in my case, while other people swear by them.
Seems there is no accounting for it.
My van was cursed. CVT went at 65,000 if I recall. Rear end suspension was bad too, I just never got around to fixing it before the leak killed the car (we left town for 2 weeks and came back to a van filled with mildew because of the leak. Not cool)
I think they repurposed parts from Altimas and the Z car. Nice parts, but can’t handle the weight.
Car drove like a dream. Great value – comparable to luxury vehicles at twice the price. Just didn’t hold up long term. If you flipped it at 60,000 miles or less, you would have extolled the virtues. (Except the eating tires thing. The original front tires were bald at 13,000 miles. That is nuts.
Zwak, my aging Honda’s been mostly great. Nice not to worry about leaks.
part of it is command: I was the guy who knew everything and could do everything, but that day has long passed me by
so I had felt comfortable that I understood the condition of old equipment and at least knew the risks
I was amortizing that drive-of-the-lot depreciation hit over more miles, saving lots of money
now I don’t care, have plenty of money, and prioritize other things, mostly convenience
downside: car interfaces should be simpler than they’ve become; I haven’t enjoyed hours of learning what all the buttons mean and figuring out how to get my phone to talk to my car
I hear ya. Out 2022 Toyota has buttons for the HVAC (rather than running it through the screen), and 6 months later I’m still not sure I understand exactly how everything works. The 2008 Toyota is much simpler and completely intuitive.

China’s defense minister defended sailing a warship across the path of an American destroyer and Canadian frigate transiting the Taiwan Strait, telling a gathering of some of the world’s top defense officials in Singapore on Sunday that such so-called “freedom of navigation” patrols are a provocation to China.
In his first international public address since becoming defense minister in March, Gen. Li Shangfu told the Shangri-La Dialogue that China doesn’t have any problems with “innocent passage” but that “we must prevent attempts that try to use those freedom of navigation (patrols), that innocent passage, to exercise hegemony of navigation.”
Let’s just cut straight to boarding parties and hand to hand combat.

Yes
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told the same forum Saturday that Washington would not “flinch in the face of bullying or coercion” from China and would continue regularly sailing through and flying over the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea to emphasize they are international waters, countering Beijing’s sweeping territorial claims.

This guy does some amazing stuff.
The other day, a video popped up about a “collaboration” between him and a business development facility at NDSU. I didn’t find the video to link to directly, but it’s interesting not just for what he was working on (a computer generated body buck for a new car) but for the facility and the program. Very impressive.
Maybe NDSU has a link.

Worth the time.
Best advice: use confirmation bias to your benefit.
I had never heard it framed this way, but it is brilliant. He said if you always interpret the actions of others in the best light, your confirmation bias will kick in and you will find examples that reinforce this view. You will be happier and have better relationships.
If you do the opposite and always assign malign motives to others, you will see examples that confirm your biases. You will be less happy and you will have less successful relationships.
I have heard many versions of this, but this was the best for me, having long talked about the dangers of confirmation bias.
The rest is really good too. Great advice about framing failure properly. Advice that would have helped me in my career (I tend to overthink and weigh the downside too heavily).
The melting pot must be quenched
More recently, a different cohort of Black folks have made Nashville, and other parts of Tennessee, their home — people who are emigrating. People from Somalia to Rwanda, Sudan to Ethiopia, Nigeria to Haiti have put down roots in Nashville. In total, 12% of the city is made up of immigrants, a large proportion of whom moved to the city after the year 2000.
But like previous generations of Black Tennesseans, Black immigrants sometimes have to fight to make their presence recognized.
——-
Layla Ahmed is a political organizer and recent college graduate who grew up in Nashville; her family emigrated from Somalia. She says she enjoys asking people what they know about Somali culture but is disheartened, time and again, to hear people’s answers. Pirates, they usually say. “And maybe hunger. War. Terrorism.”
At the risk of sounding like some sort of goddam Nazi racist, you’re in America now, presumably because your mommy and daddy were smart enough to get the fuck out of Somalia. Want to live your life “steeped in the culture of your ancestors”? Go back. There are flights to Africa daily.
Yeah, that is a weird take. New residents to a city who make up a tiny minority are .. concerned?… that people there don’t know all about their culture and heritage?
Imagine writing this article about an American moving from Mississippi to Jakarta. Somehow I think the tenor of the article would emphasize the ugly American, not the rude native culture who doesn’t adapt to his presence by learning all about the Mississippi blues and fried catfish.
It’s just another tributary of the “West (and especially America) bad, everywhere else good” narrative that the Establishment has taken on as their catechism. Frankly, I would say it’s on the girl’s parents to slap her upside the head and say “We left that place for a reason! You’re an American!” but I guess they’re probably too busy working, saving and trying to survive Bidenomics.
tangent:
George moved to Memphis from Nigeria over thirty years ago with barely any English and started a car repair garage. He’s mainstream, retiring soon; his daughter attended a private college on full scholarship,
and George hates “black” people
Of course I mean he dislikes our dominant underclass, victim-posturing culture. He hates people who are useless and don’t work, and that’s at half the people in our community.
When I met him before he could rent a garage he was erecting rental party tents with a jackhammer-adjacent stake-driver. Hard work and vision, live happily ever after.
I have a friend at church from Haiti. Their kids are likely to be president one day. Dad is quiet about it, but mom has no patience for American urban victim culture. She is ready and willing to get really loud about it when pressed.
I duck and cover whenever I see that train coming down the tunnel.
12% of the city is made up of immigrants
I bet that number is total percentage of foreign born residents including temporary work/student visa holders, naturalized US citizens and green card holders, and illegals in addition to asylum seekers. And a good chunk or overwhelming majority is from south of the border, not Africa.
How uncharacteristic of NPR to zero in on the “political organizer and recent college graduate” to help their readership understand the full story.

If it can’t be tracked, how in blazes can it be verified?
“I sent it to you.”
“No, you didn’t.”
“Yes I did.”
“Prove it.”
Just made a comment to @cyto above and realized JUST HOW fucked up it is HOW stuck in traditional gender roles/physical appearance the trans movement is.
The socons are also against gender non-conforming. Of course, conservatives in theocracies in the Middle East are way worse, but there is still Ben Shapiro wondering out loud that there shouldn’t be a law banning women wearing pants only because there is a women’s version of pants.
I’ll trust you that he said it, but I can’t believe someone would actually MEAN it.
My daughter and I had a pretty hard-core discussion the other night about who hates women more: men or women.
Well, he also said that he thought it would be fine if there were local ordinances against men wearing women’s clothes in public.
Oh, and also, this is something I noticed while DIYing POS House. The “taditional” SAHMs on my block and in my congregation were doing the majority of the DIY work, because it gradually got folded into “housework.” Husbands don’t/won’t/can’t/don’t have time/can’t afford to hire someone to do the honeydo list, so the wives started. They got good at it, found out they enjoyed power tools, and went to town. It wasn’t just me. Mostly it was just because the husbands were working long hours to home the bacon.
Then a house flipper dude came to pick up a vanity I was selling and he said his daughter and her friends were really good at it/more careful/detail oriented and he would rather have women on his team than men.
What’s a SAHM?
Stay at home mom?
OK, thanks.
Yes, Stay At Home Mom.
I am/was a Work At Home Mom.
In 2002 I observed a woman marking the occupation part of a form as “Play at Home Mom”. 🤮
I actually think that’s kind of cute, depending on context.
I want structurally sound walls, a roof and a means of egress/ingress. Wife wants things to look nice. We divide our labor accordingly and every once in a while we overlap on the functional aspects of the house.
However, if I had a 50-60 hour week she knows it’s gonna be bare minimum on the weekend of my get up and goes. Same for her, if she had a heavy workload of dogs, I step in.
I hired out the electricity after I fucked up trying to wire up XX’s bedroom, and I hired out all the heavy-duty plumbing.
Home Depot/Lowes/Menards is definitely angled towards women these days. They should know who the customer is.
Lowes always has been.
That was kinda the underlying thrust of “what is a woman”.
They clearly mean “a woman is a dress and lipstick and long hair and swishing when you walk and …”
But they absolutely didn’t want to say that. It is the underlying contradiction of “gender is a social construct” and “trans women are women”
The trans man from the documentary who regrets transitioning is all over Twitter right now. He talks about this very issue. As a successful lesbian executive, a (trans) therapist asked her “how long have you been dressing as a man?” This set her off down the road to becoming him.
Which he regrets. He says he wishes that someone had said “,there is no one way to be a woman, no one way to be a man.”.
Which is kinda where everyone around here is, I think. My daughter is a tomboy who will mix it up with the boys. As she changes to dressing “girly” it is sexy low-rise skater pants and cropped retro t shirts, not yoga pants, mini-skirts and painted nails.
Her sister, on the other hand…..
People are different. Not sure why we decided to take pre-teen anxieties and turn them into permanent health problems.
Because the adults around them never grew up?
BOOM
Road trip with the missus this weekend. Went inside a McDonalds. Good lord, the ordering “counter” is a little stand tucked into an alcove corner. Grey bland exterior, dark uninviting colors and lighting inside. Paper cups replaced with awful garbage plastic cups.
Chik Fil A continues their downward slide. Styrofoam cups replaced with these idiotic semi down wall paper cup where your hand catches on the edge of the outer partial layer and squishes unnaturally.
I just want a fucking time machine to go back 25-35 years. Also, fuck you apple autocorrect. Time machine is not a proper noun so stop fucking capitalizing it.
go back 25-35 years
in 2000 I grossed enough in salary to buy 28k Big Mac meals
in Big Mac terms, I gross exactly half as much now
the new truck with the same torque, HP, and towing capacity cost 250% of what I paid for Big Ugly back then
In 2000, McDonalds was microwaving, excusing Q-waving, their burgers. I’d go a little further back.
Fry the apple pies again! Apparently they can still be found in Downey and HI.
Ahem: Auto-suggest?
They’re never going back to beef tallow in this time line.
Prop. 65?
Didn’t burger king add 10% beef tallow to their fry oil to try to catch up to McDonald’s a few years back?
CFA on their web page announcing the new cups, gives a link to give feedback. Except it drops into their regular sorting comment form with no indication of which is the “right option” and requires a receipt to submit after filling out the comment box. Fuck you CFA, fuck your phony ass we appreciate your feedback, fuck your phony ass we’d actually act on your feedback, and and fuck your faux green appeasement.
Will they soon be open on Sundays too?
Only a matter of time.
Next step is bring your own cup.
No cup, they just squirt in your mouth.
Eeeeeewwwww.
Just made a comment to @cyto above and realized JUST HOW fucked up it is HOW stuck in traditional gender roles/physical appearance the trans movement is.
They are completely locked in. Coloring outside the lines is verboten. Inclusivity, my eye.
Garden in the desert update. The time of lettuce has passed. Letting one flower, the rest have been harvested a few weeks ago. Jalapeños, tomatoes, beans and blueberries are all coming in nicely. Lemon tree has plenty of fruit growing. I’ll have to cull the mint here in a week or so. Cilantro is also coming in nicely.
The dog ate the spinach…little shit.
“An honest question I have for people like Nina is that if all it requires to be a woman is to say that you are, what makes womanhood special at all? Why is it a mark of pride when a woman breaks a glass ceiling or achieves some milestone if that status is purely self-defining?”

Self-ID is nonsense, and Nina Turner is a hack.
