Morley field

When I arrived in San Diego I was amazed at how few Disc courses there were in my area, only three within 20 miles? yikes.

So I went to the biggest course, Morley Field. 5$ weekdays and 6$ on the weekend, unheard of until I saw the course.ย Morley field

The starting box

Right now the Jacaranda trees are in bloom which makes for a beautiful course.

Yours truly

Looking down at hole 3

This is a technical shorter course with 19 holes and many fairways crossing over each other so Fore! is very common. Over the decades they have developed multiple pin placements and since they change them every Monday it’s always a fresh game.

#3 from the teebox

Hole #4 a big downhill shot

Morley field is the second oldest course in the US, only Oak Grove in Pasadena is older, by a year. But Morley is the busiest course in North America and you can see why. A dedicated Disc course in the middle of a tourist town means we get families, rookies and people just having fun, so a 2 hour round can end up three hours plus on Sundays.

Typical pin placement, low ceiling and obstructed, Vicious and fun

Hole 11 a signature hole

They all parred

Blind shot, check out the sign

With a lot of crosswinds, low ceilings and blind shots this little course can be brutal but it’s always a good time.

No alcohol,

No smoking,

No drugs,

No dogs off of leashes

We are disc golf players, we follow no rules, we party and we love the doggos, so we discreetly(mostly) ignore those rules, a truly Libertarian game.

Excellent form

20 footer for birdie? Riiiight

If you’re ever in San Diego look me up and we can play Libertarian golf, until next time,

Tall Cans!

    The real bonus hole.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

      Only if you birdie

    • Nerfherder (Non-Non-Man)

The real bonus holes are just up the street in Hillcrest.

Or at night in the bushes there in Balboa Park.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

That’s hole 7, we call it Ghey grove,

      • Chafed

I lived in Hillcrest during one year of law school. One day I was running along the perimeter of Balboa park. It was a beautiful San Diego day.

A car went roaring up Sixth Street. As it passed me, a guy yelled out the windows “you’ve got a big dick!” I never felt so proud.

        *wipes tears from eye*

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        Yep

      • MikeS

You know he has a big dick?

      • slumbrew

I have questions about how you dress for a run

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

You sure it was a tear?

      • Nerfherder (Non-Non-Man)

        Met my wife in Hillcrest.

Unfortunately, it was not because she was yelling penis compliments to me on the street.

    • Chafed

      Lol.

      Hello, fellow chat room participant!

      • Swiss Servator

You ain’t in the Zoom…although, I kowtow to you for supplying the Jupiler sign pic…

      • MikeS

I just checked and it looks like everyone is sleeping. Glad you liked the pic. It would be kind of cool to have a Juplier sign for the mancave. heh

      • The Hyperbole

        WTF is a Juplier sign?

      • The Hyperbole

Oh, Juliper beer sign. I googled MikeS’s typo and got nothing.

      • MikeS

        Speaking of typos…

And I’m calling bullshit. I googled my typo and got a page full of Jupiler hits.

      • The Hyperbole

I got page after page of “Jupiter” Signs, kinda looks like 24 all mashed together. maybe you had already searched for Jupiler and it skewed your results.

      • MikeS

It’s Belgium’s cheap lager. You see signs for it outside seemingly every bar in Belgium. Swiss and I were comparing NW European bier stories a few Zooms ago and it came up.

You back in CA Yusef? I’ll be in SD 9-21 July. I’ve got the whole weekend off in the middle (and probably a day or so at the end of the week in the middle too) if you want to meet up and play. I don’t really like driving in that area too much, but I can get to a metro station pretty easy.

    • Yusef drives a Kia

Look me up, I would love to play,

RE: Earlier stuff (Sorry, Yusef, fribee ain’t my thang and it’s late).

Chicago Nascar – It was much less the shit show I thought it was going to be. The weather sucked a lot. I was disappointed in xfinity series crapping out, but I thought the cup series was pretty good. The finish of Van Gisbergen in P1 was awesome (exposes the regulars some, but it’s a discipline they mostly haven’t seen before but he had). It was annoying that a couple of high ceiling/low floor players extended the race (looking at you Recky Spinhouse Jr. and Bubba Wallace), some fairly good drivers also had race extending mishaps. That said, those guys do legitimately have a ceiling even if they aren’t consistent. I thought everything considered it was pretty successful and well done.

    • Shpip

I’d like to see NASCAR work in a few street circuits and a few more road courses, but unfortunately neither really lend themselves to stock cars in their current iteration. Add that to the fact that fans at the superspeedways can see the action all over the track, and you can’t at road courses (it would be an interesting challenge to get a quarter-million people in and out of, say, Road Atlanta — though I guess places like COTA are designed with that in mind).

That said, I didn’t watch the Chicago race, so I don’t know if it was a shitshow or not. I got tired of NASCAR when every single race seemed to devolve into drivers jockeying for position on “stages” before setting up for a ten-lap crashfest at the end of the event.

I finally got out for some disc golf today! Just got back. Scored my best round ever at my home course. Tall many cans! ๐Ÿฅ๐Ÿบ

Also; been texting you. Did you get a new number?

Great pics and write up, Yu. Glad youโ€™re enjoying Californiaโ€™s prettiest city.

Remember, kids, leave beer and a rifle out for Kid Rock tonight or he won’t bring you any fireworks.

    • MikeS

      Dear Jesus,

      Amen

    • hayeksplosives

Iโ€™ll do the beer but I draw the line at the rifle!

    Good morning!

NPR started the day off right with a beautiful long patriotic piece reminding us that the DoI was all about “equality,” Bonus points for having a progressive activist on saying that the DoI was much better for Progress than the Constitution.

    • Sean

      Good morning

    • Nerfherder (Non-Non-Man)

      Of course they did.

    • Ted S.

I assume they didn’t talk about Washington DC sending hither swarms of Officers to harass the people and eat our substance.

      • Fourscore

Nah, that’s the locals. The DC people don’t come to flyover country except at election time.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, NA, Sean, Nerfy (NNM), Ted’S, and 4(20)! Happy Independence Day!

  14. Not Adahn

Between the burrs and the skeeters, the park isn’t at its most fun.

    Yet the dog must play!

    • Gender Traitor

What’s going on the grill today, Sean? Ribeyes here.

      • Sean

        Strips. ๐Ÿ˜‹

      • Nerfherder (Non-Non-Man)

Prime ribeye was $16 / lb at Costco yesterday
